Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Driving on the highway I lost braking power the brake vacuum pump ceased up and broke the bolt in the cam shaft that had to be drilled out and replaced then that caused more damage to the cam and bottom end of the motor for the motor to throw the following codes: p0365 p0369 p0012 p0299 b1215 p0234 U3008 U3003 U0300 p1594 U0140 U0154 U2300 U0422 B1B36 With all these codes I did the following and am now without a vehicle thanks to FORD. This vehicle only has 58000 Miles is single owner and was well maintained till this incident now I am told the motor has to be rebuilt as the cam and bottom end are the issues with this vehicle and this has happened to a lot of people and could have cause a crash or deadly accident as no brakes and now no vehicle. The three sensors were replaced and brake vacuum pump and bolt that drives the pump from the cam along with new spark plugs and valve cover gaskets plus oil change and filter plus new battery and tires along with front rotors calipers brake pads and rear rotors and brake pads. I blame Ford for this as this is a well known issue with 2014 to 2019 models of Ford Escape Titanium 2.0l Eco Boost Engine with turbo. Garages all over the US and Canada have been just replacing the engines due to poor engineering on Fords part and I believe Ford should be held responsible to the engines replacement as it is not even 60000 Miles and I try to take good car of my vehicle only to have none now to drive. Ford Should be held Responsible.
Power train, Jul 12, 2021
After a 45 minute highway drive, I left my vehicle running in park to go run into a store briefly. Upon re-entering my car and shifting into reverse my engine revved but the car did not move. Initially I thought I was caught on a curb until all of a sudden the transmission caught an jolted the car backwards. I just barely managed to get the car home but after catching gears to move forward it would slip the engine would rev and then catch and jolt forward. Eventually it died and had to be pushed home. After reading online about this issue it seems common for this model and year, however my vehicle fell into a different made year. My big concern here is this happened without warning as seems to be the case with many other. Luckily i was a short ways from my destination and also parked in a parking lot when it first occurred, rather than doing 65 on the highway in the fast lane. A recall on all transmission from 2014 Ford Escapes should be activated to correct this issue. Multiple mechanics have mentioned it is a terrible year for the car, so clearly its common knowledge that Ford has slightly addressed. I do not care that I have to pay for this expensive fix, I am more concerned about it happening to other and severe accidents occurring.
Power train, Jun 25, 2021
I was driving in a parking lot and put my car in reverse to allow another car out of a parking spot. When I tried to put my car back into drive it was stuck in reverse and would not shift. This nearly sent me crashing into the car behind me as a result. I couldn’t even put the car in park because the shift was stuck. I turned off the car and attempted to turn it back on but it would not start. Bystanders helped push my car into a parking spot where I attempted to troubleshoot the issue. I was able to push a white lever under the shift panel to get the shift stick to move but it was then stuck in neutral and would not recognize any other gear. I had to put the emergency parking break on to keep my car from rolling into other cars around me. I did some research and found Recall # 18S20 - 2013-2014 Escape with a 6F35 Transmission Shift Cable Bushing Replacement. I contacted a few Ford dealerships in my area but they said my Vin was not included in this recall even though this is the exact issue I was having and posed a severe safety issue.

I HAVE A 2014 FORD ESCAPE SE WITH 67000 MILES AND WHEN I WAS PARKED BURGER KING PARKING LOT WITH ENGINE RUNNING A MESSAGE CAME ON THAT SAID IT WAS OVERHEATING SO I PARKED IT AND LOOKED UNDER HOOD SAW IT HAD AN ANTIFREEZE RESERVOIR THAT WAS LOW SO I PROCEEDED TO GET AN APPOINTMENT FOR CLONINGER FORD MORGANTON NC FOR THE WORKS OIL CHANGE AND COOLANT RESERVOIR AND THEY CHECKED IT PUT ANTIFREEZE IN IT AND SAID ANY PROBLEMS CALL THEM. I LEFT AND IT SEEMED OK, UNTIL I HAD IT RUNNUNG IN THE DRIVEWAY AND IT WAS OVERHEATING IT SAID AGAIN SO THEN I CALLED TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED AND GOT APPOINTMENT TO COME IN AGAIN AND I WENT AND SHOWED THEM THAT THE RESERVOIR WAS EMPTY AGAIN SO MAYBE I HAD A LEAK SINCE THEY JUST FILLED IT UP A WEEK AGO AT MY APPOINTMENT SAME DEALER SERVICE DEPT. AFTER THEY LOOKED AT IT THEY SAID THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO THE ENGINE COOLANT SYSTEM CAUSING A CRACK IN THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD BE $8000. PLUS LABOR TO REPAIR AND THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR IT AND IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WERE SEEING IT MORE AND MORE ON THIS CAR AND I WOULD BE BETTER TO TRADE IT IN. IT NOW SITS IN MY DRIVEWAY UNTIL SOMETHING CAN GET DONE. I TRULY BELIEVE CONSUMERS SHOULD BE COVERED FOR THIS WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS HERE AND WITH ATTORNEYS ON THE INTERNET WHO ARE EXPLORING SAME PROBLEM.

ON 3/20/21 WHEN DRIVING MY 2014 FORD ESCAPE MY HUSBAND AND I NOTICED A HUMMING NOISE. THEN IT SEEMED AS IF THE CAR WASN'T SHIFTING AND WAS IDLING REAL HIGH. THEN THERE WAS NOTHING, NO POWER OF SPEED OR SHIFTING. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, JUST A RED LIGHT CAME ON SAYING TRANSMISSION FAULT SERVICE NOW. WE HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR NEAREST FORD DEALER. TO FIND OUT THIS IS NOT A RECALL AND IT WAS A CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE. HE SAID IT WILL COST US $5100 FOR THEM TO GET A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH ARE BACK ORDERED. I ALSO CALLED FORD DIRECTLY ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID IT IS NOT AN OPEN RECALL, AND THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 3 MONTHS!! I FIND THIS TERRIBLE I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 5 YEARS AND TAKEN GOOD CARE OF IT AND FOR FORD TO NOT TAKE CARE OF ITS CUSTOMERS ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS I FEEL IS HORRIFIC!!

ON OR ABOUT AUGUST OF 2019 MY CAR BEGAN PULLING WHEN I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR THEN JUST TURNED OFF AND I WAS LUCK TO VEER OFF TO THE RIGHT WITHOUT HITTING ANY OTHER CARS. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP (SERRA FORD IN ROCHESTER, MI) ONLY TO FIND OUT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE CAR WAS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND EVEN THOUGH IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (MILEAGE) 112,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND FORD REFUSED TO ASSIST ME IN REPAIRING THE CAR. I HAVE PURCHASED FORD CARS SINCE 1998 AND KEPT THEM FOR OVER 8 YEARS. I HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION ON A CAR LET ALONE WHEN ITS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD. SERRA FORD (MATT) STATED THAT THE OVERDRIVE BAND FAILED FIRST WHICH CAUSED THE TRANSMISSION TO OVERHEAT. THE MATERIAL THEN DESENAGRATED AND METAL WAS SUCKED INTO THE TUBE FOR THE ACTUAL TRANSMISSION PUMP. HE RECOMMENDED ANOTHER TRANSMISSION BUT I WANTED TO KNOW WHY THEY ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON WHEN THE OVERDRIVE BAND FAILED? I ASKED THE SAME QUESTION TO THE REP AT FORD AND NO ONE COULD ANSWER ME. I FEEL LIKE I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE ANOTHER USED TRANSMISSION HAD THE SENSOR INDICATED THAT SOMETHING WAS GOING ON WITH THE ENGINE. I REALLY WANT FORD TO REFUND ME FOR THE MONEY I HAD TO SPEND ON MY TRANSMISSION.

I WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE RPM INCREASED AND IT STARTED STUDDERING AND EVENTUALLY CUT OFF. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND NOW I NEED A TRANSMISSION. THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL REGARDING THE TRANSMISSION BUT ACCORDING TO THEM IT DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE ISSUES WITH MY CAR. I WOULD THINK ANY ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION WOULD CAUSE MY TRANSMISSION TO GO OUT. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST ISSUE I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. MY ENGINE CAUGHT IN FIRE FOR NO REASON AND HAD TO GET A NEW ENGINE. I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR SINCE THAT TIME.
