Recalls and investigations

  1. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Dealers will replace the under hood shift bushing and add a protective cap over the shift cable bushing, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters, informing owners of the safety risk, were mailed July 1, 2022. Remedy parts are expected to be available in 4th Quarter 2022. Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. 15. Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 2, 2024

I purchased a 2014 Ford Escape last month. I thought Ford was a reputable company until I filled up my gas tank. Imagine my surprise when my car that I had only owned for two days, didn't start after getting gas. Thankfully a customer at the gas station told me he had the same problem and to rev the engine as I'm turning the ignition. Now every time I get gas, I have to rev the engine while trying to start the vehicle. Then after starting, I have to continue to give it gas so it won't die. It has died on me once while pulling out of the gas station because I hadn't given it enough gas to start with. After some research, I discovered that it is the canister purge valve that needs changed. Auto Zone confirmed this when they read the code for my check engine light. I couldn't find any recall info for that part despite the Ford Focus of the same year having one. My car warranty that I purchased doesn't cover it. This is a serious safety concern.

  17. Engine, Dec 1, 2024

Constant Coolant Leaks affecting the engine The vehicle is available for inspection Vehicle breaks down very easily now so safety is a concern This problem has been repaired several times. Yes the vehicle has been inspected Yes there were warnings. The vehicle now has a constant engine light that will not go away

  18. Other or unspecified, Nov 29, 2024

In April of 2021, my 2014 Ford Escape began to die on take off and my Service Engine light came on. They removed and replaced the coolant reservoir. I took my car back to the dealer because it continued to run hot. I was told that they found nothing wrong. In October of 2022, the Surge Valve was replaced. In November of 2022, it was recalled for the Shifter Cable Bushing and a protective cap. That was replaced as well as a valve cover gasket. On August 9, 2024, it was diagnosed has needing a fuel pump because it would die upon take off. My car continued to die upon takeoff. I was told then that it was the fuel injectors and to run premium gas through it and to try using a different key fob because the computer was showing a problem with the ignition. On October 28, 2024, I brought my car to the dealer because it would still die upon take off. It also sounded like it was idling rough. My CD player would accept and eject the CD, but would not play. I asked that the whole car be looked over to see if there was anything else that needed attention. The following was the diagnosis," coolant bypass valve connector burnt and valve also burnt in connection; found the coolant bypass valve is distorted." They replaced the coolant bypass and coolant bypass valve connector pig tail. The following was also diagnosed, "found the front audio control module has an internal fault; the bottom engine cover damage; found passenger side rear wheel well hanging; removed and replaced spark plugs and coils boots." I declined service for the CD player, the bottom engine cover and the rear wheel guard due to the cost to repair. The following was also on the invoice, "accessed diagnostic port and performed scan to find trouble code P26B7 which is related to Coolant Bypass." My car still dies upon take off. I have faithfully taken care of this car, having oil changes and multi-point inspections done every 3000 to 5000 miles. I cannot afford a new car at this time.

  19. Engine and engine cooling, Nov 27, 2024

The contact owns a 2014 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal excessively, the vehicle would respond as needed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was leaking into a cylinder and the cylinder was cracked. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact became aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V209000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The dealer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact called a second dealer, Brandon Ford (9090 E Adamo Dr, Tampa, FL 33619, (813)246-3673); and it was confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and file a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

There is a engine coolant leak into the cylinder 2 due to a faulty casing from the manufacturer (Ford). It is a known issue across several models (Escape, Edge) and model years. A mechanic has confirmed the engine block needs to be replaced as the issue will continue to get worse and eventually the engine will die due to the faulty casing which allows coolant to seep into the cylinder. Ford is at fault for this and countless claims have been filed online and there should be a recall to cover the repairs.
