Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. TAKATA RECALL. PURCHASED SEPT 2013. REAR ENDED TWICE WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF OWNERSHIP. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER TIME. BLEAKLEY FORD REPAIRED BOTH TIMES. 2015 GOT RECALL NOTICE FOR 'AIRBAGS'. ASKED SERVICE PERSON WHAT WAS WRONG WITH THE AIRBAGS. SHE SAID 'THEY HAD TO BE TURNED ON". THIS MEANS, THEY WERE TURNED OFF WHEN THE CAR LEFT THE FACTORY, AND WHEN I WAS REAR ENDED BOTH TIMES. THIS INDICATED THAT FORD KNEW THE AIRBAGS WERE DANGEROUS, AND WAS TURNING THEM OFF IN THE FACTORY. I FOUND MY VEHICLE ON ONE TAKATA LIST, SO I KNOW IT HAS THEM. I HAVE REQUESTED SEVERAL TIME TO HAVE MY AIRBAGS REPLACED, BUT THEY JUST BRUSH ME OFF. I'M VERY NERVOUS NOT KNOWING IF THEY ARE GOING TO EXPLODE WHILE I'M DRIVING. I LIVE IN THE SOUTH WHERE IT IS HOT AND HUMID. I UNDERSTAND THESE ARE EXACTLY THE CONDITIONS THAT CAUSE THE PRESSURIZED GAS CONTAINER TO EXPLODE, SENDING SHRAPNEL INTO THE PASSENGERS AND DRIVER. I FEEL FORD SHOULD BE PROSECUTED FOR PREMEDITATED ENDANGERMENT OF MILLIONS OF CUSTOMERS. 1ST MVA: BRAKING WHEN REAR ENDED. 2ND MVA: SITTING STILL @ RED LIGHT WHEN STRUCK FROM BEHIND. BOTH SPEEDS CALCULATED @ 45 MPH.

I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND NOTICED THE BAD SMELL/FUMES 5 MONTHS LATER DURING A ROAD TRIP. I THOUGHT THE SMELL WAS DUE TO NEW VEHICLE. I ONLY NOTICE THE SMELL DURING HARD ACCELERATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN PASSING ON AND ENTERING MAJOR HIGHWAYS, A STRONG SMELL COMES THROUGH THE VENTS AND UNDER THE STEERING COLUMN. THE SMELL IS LIKE BURNT PLASTIC OR RUBBER. IT GIVES ME A HEADACHE AT TIMES. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS; FIRST IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE THE CABIN FILTER NEEDED CHANGING AFTER 10 MONTHS OF BUYING THE SUV NEW, THEN IT WAS THOUGHT TO BE CLOGGED AIR VENTS WHICH WAS FALSE, THEN IT WAS THE AIR FRESHENER THAT CAUSED IT TO SMELL WHICH I REMOVED, AND RECENTLY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY HAD NO IDEA WHERE THE SMELL WAS COMING FROM, EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE ADVISER AND MECHANIC WITNESS THE SMELL/FUME. I CHECKED SEVERAL WEB SITES AND DISCOVERED OTHER OWNERS OF 2014 FORD ESCAPE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I DRIVE WITH THE WINDOW CRACKED BECAUSE I'M CONCERNED ABOUT MY HEALTH AND MY FAMILY. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE.

I JUST BOUGHT THE CAR IN MARCH 2017 AND WE TOOK IT ON A TRIP TO THE BEACH. ALMOST THERE THE CAR STARTED JUMPING INTO GEAR WHEN WE TOOK OFF AT THE RED LIGHT. THEY STARTED GETTING CLOSER AND MORE HARDER AT EACH STOP SO WE STOPPED AT A STORE TO CHECK IT.THERES NO DIP STICK TO CHECK THE TRANY WITH SO WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT OF GOT HOT EVEN THOUGH WE STOPPED OFTEN. IT SEEMED TO HELP THEN IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AFTER SOME TIME.WE HAD ALREADY PAID FOR THE HOTEL SO WE WENT ON AND STAYED WITH OUT GOING MANY PLACES FOR FEAR OF NOT GETTING BACK HOME.ON THE WAY HOME IT STILL DID THE SAME BUT NOT ON THE INTERSTATE.SEEMS IT ONLY DID IT AT STOPS AND STARTS IN TOWNS AT LIGHTS AND STOP SIGNS. THE FORD COMPANY HAS HAD MY CAR IN THE SHOP SINCE I GOT BACK HOME AND IVE MADE THE FIRST PAYMENT WITH 2 WEEKS DRIVING OUT OF IT.THEY SAY IT NEEDS A NEW TRANSMISSION, BUT BY THE CAR FAX PAPER IT WAS JUST REPLACED A MONTH AGO . ITS GONNA BE ANOTHER MONTH BEFORE I GET IT BACK, BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO ORDER IT. JUST HOPE I DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS ANY MORE. LOVE THE LITTLE SUV, JUST HATE ALL THIS TROUBLE I'M HAVING OUT OF IT

NOW HAS 46000 ON IT , STILL DOES IT , HAVE CALLED AND SENT REGISTERED LETTERS TO FORD , THEY SAY BUY EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WORK WITH THE DEALER (LOL ).. ON APRIL 5, 2016, MY SUV FAILED TO START, SO I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD. THE BATTERY HAD EXTENSIVE CORROSION. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED AAA, AND THE TECHNICIAN REPLAVED THE BATTERY. OCTOBER 5, 2016, I NOTICED THAT MY SUV WAS HESITANT TO START NORMALLY. AFTER INSPECTING MY BATTERY, A SMALL AMOUNT OF CORROSION WAS AGAIN PRESENT. ASSUMING THIS WAS MORE THAN A SIMPLE BATTERY ISSUE, I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP ' BRANDON FORD IN TAMPA, FL. I EXPLAINED THE TECHNICIAN MY RECENT HISTORY WITH THE BATTERY AND SHOWED HIM THE PICTURES. I EXPLICITLY INFORMED HIM THAT I DID NOT WANT A 'BAND-AID FIX' FOR THIS ISSUE. AFTER HIS ASSESSMENT, THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT HE WOULD CLEAN THE CONNECTIONS AND INSTALL ANTI-CORROSION PADS AND THAT WOULD SOLVE THE ISSUE. ON DECEMBER 30 2016, I VISITED BRANDON FORD BECAUSE MY VEHICLE'S 'CHECK ENGINE' LIGHT HAD BEEN ILLUMINATED, AND THE SUV WAS EXPERIENCING STUTTERING WHILE DRIVING BOTH ON MY RESIDENTIAL STREET AND ON THE HIGHWAY. A BIT OF CORROSION WAS PRESENT AGAIN. THE FORD TECH CALLED ME AFTER DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM AND EXPLAINED TO ME THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE AROUND $400 TO FIX THE ISSUE ' A POOR ELECTRICAL CONNECTION ' BY REPLACING THE ENGINE HARNESS SIGNAL RETURN SPLICES. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. NONETHELESS, I CHOSE TO COMPLETE THE SERVICE. ON FEBRUARY 9TH, I REACHED OUT TO FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO EXPLAIN MY ISSUE. I HAVE ATTACHED ALL CORRESPONDENCE TO AND FROM FORD. THEY DO NOT FEEL IT IS A WARRANTY OR MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I WISH TO HAVE THAT RE-EVALUATED.
