Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

I CHANGED THE BATTERY 4 WEEKS AGO AND ONCE THAT HAPPENED, THE FREQUENCY OF STOPPAGES INCREASED AND THE NOISE THROUGH THE SPEAKERS BECAME LOUDER. TWO WEEKS AGO, AFTER A VERY LOUD SCREECH, THE RADIO/ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM CEASED FUNCTIONING. WHEN TURNING ON THE CAR IGNITION, THE ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM SCREEN WILL ONLY DISPLAY THE TIME AND DATE. NO USE OF RADIO, CD PLAYER, USB PORT AND BLUETOOTH.

WITHIN THE LAST 12 MONTHS OR SO, THE STEREO WILL EMIT A LOUD POP (WHICH IS QUITE ALARMING WHILST DRIVING) AND THEN GO OUT. IT IS NOW FOLLOWED BY WHAT CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS ELECTRICAL CURRENT RUNNING THROUGHOUT THE CAR AND SPEAKERS. THIS LAST SATURDAY, WHILE AT WORK, A CUSTOMER CAME IN AND ASKED WHO OWNED THE BLUE FORD FOCUS BECAUSE IT'S MAKING A WEIRD NOISE. I GO OUTSIDE (KEYS IN MY POCKET) AND SURE ENOUGH, IT SOUNDS LIKE ELECTRICITY RUNNING THROUGH THE SPEAKERS!! THE FOLLOWING DAY, IT DID THIS AGAIN (KEYS STILL IN MY POCKET). I PERFORMED A GOOGLE SEARCH FOR THIS ISSUE AND CAME UPON MULTIPLE SITES (SOME DATING AS FAR BACK AS 2015) DESCRIBING THIS ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT FORD IS UNWILLING TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. I CONTACTED FORD MOTOR COMPANY THIS MORNING AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD NEED TO TAKE IT TO MY NEAREST FORD TECHNICAL SERVICE TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED SO THEY COULD NOTE WHAT THE ISSUE MAY BE, ON MY DIME! TO WHICH I QUESTIONED THE VALIDITY OF THIS STATEMENT AS THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS VERY ISSUE AND FIND IT RATHER ODD THAT FORD HAS NO KNOWLEDGE WHAT SO EVER REGARDING THIS ISSUE. MY MAIN CONCERN IS, WHAT POSSIBLE DAMAGE COULD IT BE DOING TO THE CARS ELECTRONICS AS WELL AS THE ALARMING POP WHILST DRIVING. ONE OF THE MAIN SAFETY FEATURES OF THIS VEHICLE WAS THE ABILITY OF HANDS FREE CALLING, BUT THAT FEATURE IS COMPLETELY RENDERED USELESS WHEN THIS HAPPENS.

THE FIRST PROBLEM WAS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, FORD EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO COVER WHATEVER THE PART WAS OUT TO 150K MILES. THE SECOND PROBLEM WAS THE RADIO/SYNC SYSTEM QUIT WORKING. AND AS OF TODAY JULY 7 A STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING IS COMING UP ON THE DASH. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THE PROBLEM DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. THE STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING COMES ON WHEN YOU START THE VEHICLE, WE HAVE NOT SEEN IT HAPPEN WHILE IN MOTION.

I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW IN 2013. ON 5/16/2018 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE LEFT LANE OF TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE I GET A NOTIFICATION THAT SAYS "ENGINE FAULT SERVICE NOW". THEN THE ENGINE CUTS OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY ROAD. THE PERSON BEHIND ME ALMOST SMASHED INTO ME BUT SWERVED AT THE LAST SECOND AND CUT A CAR OFF IN THE LANE NEXT TO ME. I TRIED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON, BUT IT WOULDN'T START. IT WAS SOOO DANGEROUS TO BE STUCK ON THE ROAD NOT ABLE TO DO ANYTHING. I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE TO SET UP FLARES BEHIND ME. I HAVE BEEN READING BLOGS AND I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THIS HAS HAPPENED TO.

DESIGN FAILURE IN ENGINE WIRING HARNESS THE WIRES WITH IN THE ENGINE WIRING HARNESS RUB TOGETHER WITH THE VIBRATION OF AN IGNITED ENGINE. AS FRICTION OCCURS BETWEEN THE INDIVIDUAL ENCASED WIRES, THE CASING WEARS DOWN, THE WIRES RISK BECOMING FUSED TOGETHER WITHIN THE HARNESS. THE CONSEQUENCES OF A FAULTY ENGINE WIRING HARNESS: 1.RPM READINGS DO NOT COINCIDE WITH THE MOTOR. THE VEHICLE STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE FROM THE TRAFFIC LIGHT EVEN THOUGH THE CAR IDLES AT 2000 RPM. THEREFORE, THE TACHOMETER IS UNABLE TO READ THE ROTATION OF THE ENGINE'S CRANKSHAFT. 2.AS THE VEHICLE IN MOTION ENCOUNTERS AN INCLINE IT LOSES POWER AND IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE ON ANY GRADE HILL, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO DUMP FUEL. IN SUCH INSTANCE ONE CAN WATCH THE FUEL GAUGE RECESS QUICKLY FROM FULL TO EMPTY. 3.WHETHER THE ENGINE IS TURNED ON OR OFF, THE TAIL LIGHT AND HORN WILL ALSO SHORT OUT, PRESENTING FAULTY CIRCUITS.

I PURCHASE A 2013 FORD FOCUS JULY OF 2013. ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR, IT STARTED TO JERK AS I WOULD PRESS THE GAS TO ACCELERATE THE AUTO. I'VE TAKEN IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT 6 TIMES SINCE. THEY'VE RESET THE SYSTEM AND ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE CARD WOULD JERK AGAIN. THIS PAST SUMMER, IN A PARKING LOT OF A SHOPPING CENTER MY CAR WOULDN'T TURN ON. I HAD TO CALL A TOWING COMPANY AND TAKE IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN TO HAVE CHECKED OUT. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO THE CLUTCH, IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS REPLACED AND THE JERKING CONTINUED TO THE POINT I WAS SO USED TO IT, I FORGOT ABOUT IT. A FEW NIGHTS AGO I HAD THE MOST TERRIFYING SITUATIONS WHILE DRIVING. AS I WAS DRIVING, I'D PRESS THE BRAKE TO STOP AT THE RED LIGHT AND THE CAR KEPT WANTING TO ACCELERATE, MAKING THE SYSTEM GO CRAZY AND THE CAR DIEING. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON BUT IT DIED AGAIN. THE DEALERSHIP NOW SAYS ITS THE CLUTCH AND SOMETHING ON THE TRANSMISSION THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. NOW, I GET A CALL SAYING THEY CANNOT REPLACE THE CLUTCH UNTIL I REPLACE THE RELEASE BARING, WHICH I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER AND I COULD HAVE EASILY CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR. I AM SO FURIOUS WITH FORD AND WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A PART THAT IS ON RECALL TO BE REPLACED. VERY UPSET!

THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY PROBLEMS WITH THIS MODEL, SO MANY COMPLETE SHUT DOWNS (SOMETIMES AS I AM GETTING ON THE HIGHWAY) AND SO MANY SERVICE APPOINTMENTS THAT IT'S ASTONISHING THERE ARE NO OFFICIAL RECALLS ON THE BOOKS. I WOULD ABSOLUTELY NEVER CONSIDER BUYING ANOTHER FORD UNTIL THEY MAKE THIS SITUATION RIGHT.

WE HAD HE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME. A CHECK OF THE CODE SHOWED A FUEL DELIVERY SYSTEM PROBLEM. WE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN TRYING TO FUEL THE VEHICLE WHEN PLACING THE FUEL NOZZLE INTO THE FUEL FILL A RUSH OF AIR WOULD ESCAPE. AFTER FUELING THE CAR WOULD NOT START. ONCE WE GET THE CAR STARTED IT WOULD RUN ROUGH FOR SEVERAL MILES. ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE WAS WRONG. THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD SHOW 1/2 TANK BUT WE RAN OUT OF GAS. THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, OUR MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE FUEL TANK, PURGE VALVE AND ASSOCIATED HOSES, FUEL PUMP. ALSO, ANOTHER PROBLEM AROSE WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ALL OF THE GAUGES INCLUDING THE RADIO WENT BLANK AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THE MECHANIC HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND RESET THE COMPUTER FOR THE INSTRUMENTS AND RADIO TO BEGIN WORKING AGAIN.
