Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Latches/locks/linkages, hatchback/liftgate, lockSep 28, 2016
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

Exterior lightingAug 1, 2013
Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

The left rear door child lock was built incorrectly. As a result, the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal force to activate the child lock.
The operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged. However, the door may be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

I HAD ALREADY BEGUN NOTICING THE SHUDDERING AND LURCHES WHEN I WAS NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL. I IMMEDIATELY BROUGHT IT TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP IN MAY 2015. DURING THIS FIRST VISIT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE CLUTCHES, CLUTCH ASSEMBLY, SEAL, AND FLUIDS AS ALLOWED BY THE RECALL. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO SERVICE IN OCTOBER 2015 AT WHICH TIME I WAS TOLD THIS PROBLEM WOULD NEVER BE FIXED, BUT THE CAR WAS 'REPAIRED PER RECALL 15B22B'. ON THE THIRD VISIT, IN DECEMBER 2015, I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE MAN THAT 'FORD CREATED A BAD TRANSMISSION, BUT ALL THEY COULD DO WAS RE-FLASH THE CONTROL MODULE AND THE CAR WOULD NEED TO RE-LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS'. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE INVOICE THE VEHICLE WAS RECHECKED FOR THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDER, PASSED TEST, AND WAS REPROGRAMMED. DURING THE FOURTH VISIT IN MAY 2016, I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED AND THAT IF I WOULD READ MY OWNER'S MANUAL, I WOULD KNOW THAT. AT THAT TIME I ASKED TO SPEAK WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER BECAUSE OF THE WAY I WAS BEING TREATED. THE SERVICE INVOICE STATES THE 'TRANSMISSION IS PASSING TRANSMISSION OPERATIONAL TESTING CRITERIA'. I HAVE NOW BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. I HAVE RESEARCHED ONLINE AND HAVE COME ACROSS THIS REASONING FOR THE PROBLEM: 'TRANSMISSION FLUID IS LEAKING SOMEPLACE INSIDE AND GETTING ON ONE OR TWO OF THE CLUTCHES, THE OILY CLUTCH IS WHAT'S CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE THE HARSH SHIFT'. I'VE ALSO READ THAT AFTER NINETEEN TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS, A RECENT BULLETIN ALLOWS THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO OPEN THE TRANSMISSION, FIND THE AREA THAT LEAKS TRANSMISSION FLUID ON THE CLUTCH, AND FIX IT. YET I'M STILL BEING TOLD THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO. *TR

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 60MPH AND THE HOOD FLEW OPEN SHATTERING THE WINDOW.THE LATCH THAT WAS HOLDING IT DOWN CAME LOOSE AND ONE SIDE WAS NOT ATTACHED TO ANYTHING. THE TOP OF THE CAR WAS ALSO DENTED. I HAD A WINDSHIELD GUY COME TO REPAIR IT AND HE SAID THAT THIS IS THE THIRD FORD CAR THAT HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN TO. ALSO I HAVE TWO PREVIOUS RECALLS ON THE CAR ONE FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR LATCH AND THE OTHER FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THE HOOD COMING UP IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. ALSO THE HOOD IS BANGED UP SO NOW THAT IT WILL NOT CLOSE NORMAL. AND THE HOOD JOINTS CUT THE FRAME OF THE CAR. *TR

THE FUSE THAT CONTROLS THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN FRONT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT STAY IN. IT DOES NOT "BLOW" AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS YOU HAVE NO SPEEDOMETER,HEAT OR GAS GAUGE,TURN SIGNALS, ECT. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A VALID SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN THIS FUSE DOES NOT ALLOW THE CURRENT TO GET TO THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER THEN THE MPG READOUT RETURNS TO 30.7 IN LIEU OF WHAT WAS BEING SHOWN AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. ANYTIME YOUR SIGNAL LIGHTS WILL NOT WORK THAT IS A RECALLABLE SITUATION. I BELIEV FOMOCO KNOWS ABOUT THIS. ALSO THE STICKER ON THE DOOR JAMB IN REGARDS TO TIRE PRESSURE READS 30 PSI. RIGHT NOW I HAVE 30 PSI IN MY TIRES AND THE "LOW TIRE" LIGHT IS CONSTANTLY ON.WHEN I CONTACTED MY DEALER HE SAID TO PUT 35 PSI IN EACH TIRE TO ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM. IF THE TIRE MANUFACTURERS WANTED MORE THAN 30PSI IN THEIR TIRES THEN WHY DOES THE DOOR STICKER NOT SAY SO AND ALSO THE TIRE BOOKLET.

I PURCHASED MY USED 2013 FORD FOCUS ON AUGUST 4TH 2015. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOUR TIMES TO ADDRESS THE DUAL CLUTCH SYSTEM BEING FAULTY. THE CAR WILL SHUTTER BETWEEN GEARS, STRUGGLE TO ACCELERATE, IT WILL ROLL BACKWARDS/FORWARDS AT STOPS WHILE THE CAR IS STILL IN DRIVE AND WHEN I AM GOING TO PARK. IT ALSO WILL REV UP RANDOMLY AND ALMOST LURCH FORWARD WHEN ITS TRYING TO SHIFT. I BRING THE CAR IN AND THEY "FIX" IT, WHEN I PICK IT UP FROM THE SHOP IT RUNS SMOOTHLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME BEFORE IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN.

I PURCHASED A 2013 FORD FOCUS 2013 SE HATCHBACK. I'VE HAD IT FOR ABOUT TWO YEARS. DURING THE LAST FEW MONTHS THE TRANSMISSION HAS STARTED TO STUTTER. WHEN STARTING AT AN INTERSECTION FROM A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN THE CAR STRUGGLES TO ACCELERATE. AT SLOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT FOR EXAMPLE IT DOESN'T OPERATE WELL WITHER. IT BEHAVES LIKE SOMEONE IS LEARNING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION FOR THE FIRST TIME. MY CAR IS AN AUTOMATIC. LATELY THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION HAS GOTTEN WORSE. I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT IN TO THE DEALER.

THE VEHICLE STUTTERS, JERKS, AND STALLS IN LOW GEARS. WHEN WE PRESS THE GAS FROM A STATIONARY POSITION THE CAR FAILS TO MOVE FORWARD ON MANY OCCASIONS. IF IT DOES MOVE FORWARD THEN THE GEARS MAKE A GRINDING SOUND. IT POSES A RISK TO US WHEN WE HAVE TO MOVE ACROSS ONCOMING TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY ON LEFT HAND TURNS AT STOPLIGHTS WHEN WE HAVE A YIELD SIGN. THE CAR HAS STALLED OUT ON A FEW OCCASIONS LEAVING US VULNERABLE TO CARS TRAVELING AT HIGH VELOCITIES TOWARDS US. THIS IS AN UNSAFE CAR AND WE PLAN TO HOLD FORD ACCOUNTABLE FOR HUMAN AND PROPERTY DAMAGE SHOULD IT OCCUR DUE TO THIS DEFECT. *TR

I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR AND HAVE ONLY OWNED IT SINCE JULY OF 2014. THE COMPUTER MODULE IN MY TRANSMISSION HAS ALREADY HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO SHUDDERING, GEARS SHIFTING INCORRECTLY, AND EVENTUALLY DYING WHILE DRIVING. NOW MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, AGAIN. THIS TIME FOR CODE P0456, WHICH RELATES TO THE PURGE VALVE CANISTER AND EVAP SYSTEM. A FEW WEEKS AGO, I NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND HAD SOMEONE RUN MY CODES. WHENEVER I PUT GAS IN THE CAR, IT TAKES SEVERAL TRIES BEFORE MY CAR WILL START. I HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS WHILE STARTING THE CAR IN ORDER FOR IT TO ACTUALLY START. AFTER I GET GAS, THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES DIE WHILE I AM DRIVING...WHICH HAS HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THIS WILL CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT FOR SOMEONE SOME DAY...MAYBE EVEN A FATAL ACCIDENT. THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO STARTED READING INCORRECTLY AT THE SAME TIME. I WILL HAVE A 1/4 TANK OF GAS, BUT IT WILL REGISTER THAT I HAVE 3/4 FULL AND IS ONLY MOMENTARILY CORRECTED WHEN YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT. I HAVE RESEARCHED MANY BLOGS AND FORUMS AND HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MANY FOCUS OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEMS WITH THESE ISSUES. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW AND I AM WAITING FOR THEM TO CALL WITH THE FINAL DIAGNOSIS. IT ISN'T RIGHT FOR FORD TO KNOW THAT THEY HAVE FAULTY CARS OUT THERE AND NOT PAY TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THIS. *TR

THE POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION CONTAINS ONE OR MORE DESIGN AND/OR MANUFACTURING DEFECTS THAT CAUSE PROBLEMS AND UNSAFE CONDITIONS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, SUDDENLY LURCHING FORWARD, DELAYED ACCELERATION, AND SUDDEN LOSS OF FORWARD PROPULSION. THE TRANSMISSION HAS A VERY SLUGGISH SHIFT BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND GEARS AND THE UPSHIFT BOGS DOWN LIKE THE VEHICLE MIGHT STALL AND ERRATICALLY SHIFTING IN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR AS WELL,CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE TRANSMISSION DEFECT, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, BUCKING, KICKING, JERKING, HARSH ENGAGEMENT, AND DELAYED ACCELERATION AND LURCHING. THIS IS A SERIOUS MATTER THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE THIS DEFECT CAUSES FATALITIES.

AT AN INTERSECTION, THE CAR SPUTTERS FROM A STOP AND SOMETIMES STALLS. LIKEWISE, AFTER RE-FUELING THE TANK THE CAR STALLS 2-3 TIMES IN A ROW ON IGNITION BEFORE STARTING AND STAYING ON. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP, THE CAR HAS SOMETIMES HAD THE OTHER DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS COME UP AND FELT LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO STALL, WITH THE RPM GAUGE BOUNCING AROUND NEAR ZERO, BUT HAS NOT FULLY STALLED DURING DECELERATION (POSSIBLY DUE TO ME PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR TO PREVENT THE STALL). THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER THIS BEGAN. AT THAT TIME, THE FUEL GAUGE ALSO BEGAN TO "STICK," NOT MOVING FROM POSITION UNTIL THE CAR WOULD BE STOPPED AND RESTARTED, AND MIS-REPRESENTING THE NUMBER OF MILES LEFT BEFORE NEEDING TO REFUEL. I'M CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET INSPECTED AND REPAIRED. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH A PUMP, BUT NOTHING MORE AT THIS POINT. *TR
