Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.
An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S40. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

Insufficient compression in the engine wiring harness splices to the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor may provide incorrect signals to the powertrain control module (PCM).
The incorrect signals could cause the vehicle to hesitate or the engine to stall, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the current crimped splices with new splices, free of charge. The recall began on January 7, 2016. Owners may contact Ford customer service 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S17-S1.

Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

The left rear door child lock was built incorrectly. As a result, the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal force to activate the child lock.
The operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged. However, the door may be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

I PURCHASED MY 2013 FORD FOCUS SE BRAND NEW IN JUNE OF 2013. I NOTICED THE SHUDDERING DURING ACCELERATION IMMEDIATELY AND MENTIONED IT TO SOMEONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL FOR IT BEING BRAND NEW AND THAT IT WOULD STOP AFTER AWHILE. WE ARE NOW OVER 3 YEARS LATER AND IT HAS NOT STOPPED. SOMEONE FINALLY CONVINCED ME TO TAKE IT IN. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN IN MY VEHICLE AND CAN'T BELIEVE THAT IT DOES THIS AND TELL ME THAT IT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT NORMAL. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP A COUPLE MONTHS AGO AND THEY SAID THEY REPROGRAMMED SOMETHING. THIS DID NOT HELP. TOOK IT BACK IN AGAIN TODAY AND BEFORE EVEN LOOKING AT IT THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT WAS I'M DESCRIBING IS NORMAL AND GAVE ME A FLYER EXPLAINING THE TRANSMISSION DIFFERENCES. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THEY THOUGHT I WOULD BUY INTO THAT. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN RESEARCHING THE ISSUE AND AM NOW FINDING OUT THIS IS WIDESPREAD. I'M BEYOND PISSED. I WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON 11/13/14 IN THIS VEHICLE WHERE I HIT THE BREAKS AND MY CAR WOULDN'T STOP RIGHT AWAY SO I REAR ENDED SOMEONE. I JUST ASSUMED I DID SOMETHING WRONG BUT I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT IT WOULDN'T STOP. I HAD PLENTY OF ROOM. THE WHEELS DID NOT LOCK UP. THE SENSATION I FELT IN THE VEHICLE WHEN I HIT THE BREAKS IS HARD TO EXPLAIN. IT WAS AS IF I WAS PUMPING ON THE BREAKS AS OPPOSED TO WHAT I DID, WHICH WAS TO PUT MY FOOT ALL THE WAY DOWN FULL FORCE.

I ASKED SERVICE DEPARTMENT IF TCM HAD REVISIONS TO TO CORRECT PROBLEM, THEY DID NOT KNOW. SO IF REPLACING WITH SAME DEFECTIVE TCM THIS WILL BE AN ONGOING PROBLEM. WAS RECOMMENDED TO SELL/TRADE CAR BEFORE 150.000 MILE DEADLINE ON WARRANTY. I HAVE TRIED TO TRADE IN BUT NO DEALER WANTS BECAUSE OF KNOWN TCM ONGOING PROBLEM. NEXT FAILURE I WILL HAVE IT REPOSSESSED AND LET FORD CORPORATE DEAL WITH IT. VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN MY OPINION WITH THIS ONGOING TCM PROBLEM. WORST CASE SCENARIO IF TCM FAILS , VEHICLE WILL SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY AND YOU HAVE A FORD ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE NUMBER TO CALL. COMFORTING ! UNACCEPTABLE FORD CORPORATION. I DO NOT TO APPRECIATE FORD RISKING MY FAMILIES LIFE FOR A PROBLEM THEY WILL NOT FIX.

I HAVE THE CAR PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE IT GIVES ME THE MESSAGE "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED". THE STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CAR HAS 48,288 MILES WHICH I'VE ONLY PUT 12,088 OF IT. I HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR 14 MONTHS WHEN THIS OCCURRED I'VE CONTACTED THE DEALER WHICH THEY STATED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY I REQUESTED WAS NEVER PURCHASED WHEN I TOLD THEM THE WARRANTY PAPERWORK THAT WAS GIVEN TO ME WAS EXPIRED BEFORE I PURCHASED THE CAR. I AM FURIOUS WITH THE DEALER, AND FORD. I DON'T HAVE $1,500 FOR THE REPAIR AND WITHOUT A CAR I CAN'T GET TO WORK. NOW I HAVE TO WORRY OF HAVING IT REPOSSESSED BECAUSE I CAN'T MAKE THE CAR PAYMENT.

WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN... CANTON, TEXAS. THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED AND THE DOOR FLEW OPEN WHEN TURNING RIGHT. MY 85 YEAR OLD MOTHER WAS SITTING NEXT TO THE DOOR, IN A SEAT-BELT THANK GOD. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED CLOSING THE DOOR SEVERAL TIMES. IT WOULD NOT CATCH ON THE STRIKER. USING A SCREWDRIVER, I FOUND THE LATCH HAD NO TENSION ON IT AND WOULD NOT HOLD THE THE DOOR STRIKER. I PUT MY MOTHER IN THE FRONT SEAT AND HAD MY SON HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED FOR THE 15 MILE TRIP HOME. I CALLED 3 FORD DEALERS TO FIND THE PART IS ON BACK-ORDER. THE PRICE IS A WHOPPING $273 + TAX + ANOTHER $100 TO PUT IT IN. HAD MY MOTHER NOT BEEN BELTED IN, THIS COULD HAVE KILLED HER. HAD THERE BEEN ANOTHER CAR CLOSE, IT WOULD HAVE MADE FOR A NASTY ACCIDENT. I KNOW THIS IS NOT A ONE OFF, FREEK FAILURE. MY WIFE IS NOW DRIVING AROUND WITH THE DOOR TIED SHUT

SINCE THE FIRST WEEK OF PURCHASE THE CAR HAS HAD TRANS FAILURE. IT HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP AT LEAST 4-5 TIMES FOR REPAIRS WITH NO AVAIL.. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, MAKES LOUD GRINDING NOISES, STALLS, LOSES POWER THEN VIOLENTLY JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING. BECAUSE OF THIS MANY TIMES I HAVE NARROWLY MISSED HITTING OTHER CARS CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I DRIVE EVERYDAY WITH FEAR AND ANXIETY, THIS CAR IS DOWNRIGHT DANGEROUS. TO TOP THINGS OFF, SUDDENLY, MY REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WILL NOT STAY SHUT,. IT APPEARS THAT THE LATCH IS BROKEN EVEN THOUGH I RARELY IF AT ALL OPEN OR CLOSE THIS DOOR. THERE ARE SO MANY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. FORD SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR THIS ATROCITY THEY BROUGHT UPON THEIR CUSTOMERS.

THE CAR HAS JERKED, SHUTTERED, AND SHOOK FROM ALMOST THE DAY I BOUGHT IT, I HAVE BATTLED THESE ISSUES FROM THE VERY BEGINNING. IT WON'T ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN I PUSH ON THE GAS I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF IT. THE FLASHERS COME ON WHEN I UNLOCK MY DOOR, MY HORN DOESN'T WORK, MY DRIVER WINDOW DOESN'T WORK, I HAVE HAD THE CLUTCH REPLACED, THE CLUSTER WAS FRIED TWICE, AND THE CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN REPLACED. THEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY MY CAR ENGINE REVVED WAY UP AND THE RPMS WENT TO 7000 AND I LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE MY CAR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE WHEN I LOST THE POWER TO MY VEHICLE I PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THANKFULLY THE FREEWAY WASN'T BUSY. THE REVERSE ALSO WENT OUT ON MY CAR. THE CAR IS NOW IN THE SHOP FOR THE 6TH OR 7TH TIME FOR THE SAME ISSUES BUT IT IS NEVER FIXED.

WHEN ACCELERATING FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR THE CAR WILL SHUDDER LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN THE MOST WHEN THERE IS ANY KIND OF EXTRA WEIGHT IN THE CAR, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, AND WHEN GOING UPHILL. IT WILL BE FINE FOR A WHILE THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT WILL DO THIS EVERY TIME I TRY TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR ONLY HAS 52,000 MILES ON IT AND DEFINITELY SHOULDN'T HAVE THIS KIND OF A PROBLEM

DRIVER SIDE DOOR LATCH BROKE AND DOOR OPENED UP WHILE DRIVING. I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WHILE HOLDING MY DOOR SHUT AND CLUTCH SHIFTING IN ORDER TO GET IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE FIRST DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO SERVICE IT UNTIL AUGUST 25TH 2016 (RED MCCOMBS FORD WEST). SO, I WAS FORCED TO DRIVE IT 16 MILES ON THE FREEWAY TO NORTHSIDE FORD IN SAN ANTONIO. BECAUSE IT HAS EXCEEDED THE 36K MILE WARRANTY, THE REPAIR BILL IS QUOTED AT JUST UNDER $700 BECAUSE THE "DOOR LATCH MECHANISM FAILED" AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I'M BLESSED THIS DID NOT HAPPEN WHILE TURNING RIGHT OR HAD IT BEEN THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR WITH A CHILD. I'VE READ MANY REPORTS ABOUT FAILED DOOR LATCHES WITH FORD AND NOT SURE WHY THIS ISN'T BEING RECALLED AND WHY FORD ISN'T WILLING TO PUT THE SAFETY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS FIRST. NOT TO MENTION $700 TO REPLACE A FAULTY DOOR LATCH WHICH PUT ME AT RISK FOR A MAJOR INJURY. I HOPE NO ONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED UNTIL A RECALL IS FINALLY HONORED. I FEEL LIKE A GRAVE INJUSTICE HAS OCCURRED WITH FORD'S UNWILLINGNESS TO PUT MYSELF AND OTHERS' SAFETY FIRST. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE SHOP WAITING ON PARTS AND THEM TO BE INSTALLED. I WILL HAVE A STATEMENT ONCE I RETRIEVE MY CAR.

ON OCTOBER 6, 2012 I PURCHASED THIS NEW AUTOMOBILE. FEBRUARY 27, 2013, THE AUTO WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER. THERE SEEMED TO BE A SHUDDERING/DRAGGING WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS APPLIED FROM A COMPLETE STOP. AN INSPECTION WAS DONE AND NO PROBLEM WAS FOUND (IT WAS HAPPENING SPORADICALLY). AFTER TAKING IT IN A FEW MORE TIMES THEY STILL COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. AUGUST 4, 2014 I TOOK CAR A DEALER 110 MILES AWAY. AFTER DESCRIBING WHAT WAS HAPPENING, THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY THE CLUTCH WAS NOT ENGAGING. THEY REPAIRED IT AND IT SEEMED TO BE DRIVING MUCH BETTER. BY MID 2015, THE CAR STARTED SHUDDERING AGAIN, SO ON NOVEMBER 11, 2015, SINCE I KNEW WHAT WAS THE PROBABLE PROBLEM WAS I TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL DEALER AND TOLD THEM WHAT THE OTHER DEALER HAD DONE. THEY VERIFIED THE PROBLEM AND HAD THE CAR FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND A NEW CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WAS LEAKING OIL AND THEY WOULD ORDER THE NECESSARY PARTS (NEW CLUTCH). THE CAR WAS BROUGHT IN AGAIN ON 12/8/15 AND LEFT SEVERAL DAYS. THEY AGAIN ORDERED PARTS AND REPLACED DEFECTIVE ONES WITH OTHER PARTS. ON 1/18/16 THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER BECAUSE ALL THE OIL HAD LEAKED OUT OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AND THERE WAS A COMPUTER MESSAGE STATING THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. AGAIN THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR SEVERAL DAYS WHILE PARTS WERE ORDERED AND INSTALLED. ON 2/16/16 THE CAR AGAIN WAS BROUGHT INTO THE DEALER. THIS TIME EXTENSIVE WORK WAS DONE ON THE CAR. THREE ENGINES WERE ORDERED AND ANOTHER CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED. I RECEIVED MY CAR BACK THE WEEK OF APRIL 5 (6 WEEKS LATER). ON 7/11/16, THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER (50+ MILES AWAY) BECAUSE THE COMPUTER MESSAGE READ TRANSMISSION HOT STOP CAR IMMEDIATELY. AGAIN ANOTHER CLUTCH WAS PUT IN WITH OTHER PARTS DUE TO THE CLUTCH BREAKING. MY CAR WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER 6 DAYS.

I ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE IT REPEATEDLY AND IT WOULD NOT LATCH. I WAS FORCED TO HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED UNTIL WE COULD PULL OVER. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, WE REALIZED THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS ACTUALLY BROKEN AND WOULD HAVE TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. DESPITE THERE BEING RECALLS ON SEVERAL FORD VEHICLES FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM, FORD IS REFUSING TO RECALL THE FOCUS (THEY ACTUALLY TOLD ME THAT IT HAD NEVER HAPPENED TO THE 2013 MODEL BEFORE.

I STARTED THE CAR AND STARTED TO DRIVE OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, BUT MY CAR INFORMED ME THAT MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED. I PUSHED ON THE DOOR (WITHOUT PULLING THE LATCH) AND THE DOOR OPENED. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO CLOSE THE DOOR, LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE DOORS, BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH.
