Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

EquipmentOct 2, 2012
This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.
Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.
Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED FIVE TIMES. TWO INVOLVING RECALLS ON MY TRANSMISSION, DUE TO SHUTTERING AND HESITATION TO SHIFT WHILE DRIVING. I BELIEVE THIS VEHICLE IS HIGHLY UNSAFE SINCE I NEVER KNOW IF MY CAR WILL BE ABLE TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY WHILE CHANGING LANES. THIS HAPPENS MAINLY IN THE CITY STREETS WHEN BEING IN FIRST OR SECOND GEAR.
Engine, Oct 1, 2015
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER THREE ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
Power train, Sep 30, 2015
TRANSMISSION SURGES DURING ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION. ALMOST LIKE INSUFFICIENT FUEL BEING RECEIVED BY ENGINE. DEALER STATED THAT THIS IS DUE TO FORD "POWERSHIFT" TRANSMISSION AND NOT FUEL LINE. CAUSES CONCERN FOR SAFETY AND FUTURE PERFORMANCE AFTER MORE MILEAGE. THIS HAS EXISTED SINCE PURCHAS OF VEHICLE IN MAY 2013 AND STILL EXISTS NOW AFTER 11000 MILES.
Power train, Engine, Sep 28, 2015
THE CAR MAKES HORRIBLE NOISES WHEN IN LOW A LOW SPEED. IT HESITATES. IT MAKES HORRIBLE CRUNCHING NOISES. IT HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES. THEY ALWAYS SAY THAT THEY HEAR IT, BUT THAT IT IS NOT A PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. NOW, IN SEPTEMBER 2015, I HAVE RECEIVED A SOFTWARE UPDATE PROGRAM 15B22 WHICH IS EXTENDING MY WARRANTY. FORD ALREADY AGREED TO EXTEND MY WARRANTY IN 2013 BECAUSE OF MY COMPLAINTS. HOWEVER, THAT DOCUMENTATION DOES NOT SHOW UP IN THE FORD OASIS SYSTEM, BUT MR. FORD'S OFFICE ASSURES ME THAT IF I SHOW THEM THE LETTER, IT WILL HONORED. I HAVE ALL OF THE BACK UP MATERIAL FROM 2013 INCLUDING PHONE LOGS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT CAN ONLY BE CORRECTED WITH REPLACING THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER. I AM VERY AFRAID THE VEHICLE WILL STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSHING TRAFFIC. IT HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD ALREADY. I MADE MR. FORD'S OFFICE AWARE OF THIS, ALSO. I WOULD NEVER PASS THIS CAR ONTO MY CHILD OR A RELATIVE, AND I WILL FEEL GUILTY WHEN I AM ABLE TO FINALLY TRADE IT IN AN BUY A NEW VEHICLE. THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD.
Power train, Sep 25, 2015
ON JULY 17, 2013, I BOUGHT A 2013 FORD FOCUS FROM THE FORD DEALER IN MY AREA. ON JULY 18, 2013, I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALER, BECAUSE AS I ACCELERATED FROM EVERY STOP, AND FROM SOME LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS, THE TRANSMISSION PRODUCED VERY LOUD GRINDING NOISES AS THE GEARS SHIFTED AND THE CAR WOULD JERK OR SHUDDER. AT THIS TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPROGRAMMED PER TSB 14 0047. HAVING OWNED THE CAR FOR ONE DAY, IT WAS A SHOCKING REVELATION TO BE TOLD THAT THE CARS BEHAVIOR WAS TYPICAL FOR MY PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL. I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I COULD BRING IT BACK WHENEVER I FELT IT NECESSARY. ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2014, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE FORD DEALER WITH THE SAME COMPLAINTS. THE WORK DONE AT THIS TIME AS WRITTEN ON THE INVOICE WAS AS FOLLOWS: PROGRAMMED PCM AND TCM ROAD TESTED RESET TRANSMISSION STRATEGY. I WAS REASSURED, YET AGAIN, THAT THESE CAR BEHAVIORS WERE CHARACTERISTIC OF THE 2013 FOCUS AND THAT I NEED NOT WORRY ABOUT SAFETY FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS. ALTHOUGH THE REPROGRAMMING MADE A POSITIVE DIFFERENCE, MY CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WITHOUT SOME GEAR GRINDING, SKIPPING, AND SHUDDERING ON ACCELERATION AND DURING SLOW L AND R TURNS. I HAVE NOT RETURNED FOR SERVICE BECAUSE I WAS ASSURED IT WAS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. ESSENTIALLY, I LEARNED TO LIVE WITH IT. ON SEPTEMBER 22, 2015, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY NOTIFYING ME THEY WERE PROVIDING A SOFTWARE UPDATE PROGRAM 15B22 FOR THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM14M02. THE LANGUAGE IN THIS LETTER IS, QUITE FRANKLY, ALARMING, LEADING ME TO BELIEVE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IN THE 2013 FOCUS IS, IN FACT, A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE ALREADY SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE UPDATE. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF FURTHER ACTION THAT CAN BE TAKEN.

2013 FORD FOCUS WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED BUBBLES AFFECTING DRIVER AND PASSENGER VISIBILITY. BUBBLES PRESENT IN A EVENLY DISTRIBUTED PATTERN THROUGHOUT THE WINDSHIELD. BUBBLES ARE ROUGHLY 2-5MM IN DIAMETER. THE PRESENCE OF THE BUBBLES COULD AFFECT DRIVER VISIBILITY, WHICH COULD HAVE A DETRIMENTAL EFFECT ON THE SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE.

I HAVE A 2013 FORD FOCUS AND TWICE WITHIN THE LAST 30 DAYS THE TRANSMISSION HAS MALFUNCTIONED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT BOTH TIMES. THE CLUTCH WILL ENGAGE WHICH WILL DISCONNECT THE ENGINE FROM THE DRIVE-SHAFT. YOU HAVE NO POWER TO MOVE FORWARD AND THE CAR STARTS TO SLOW DOWN RAPIDLY. I HAD TO MANEUVER THE CAR TO THE FAR RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE ROAD BOTH TIMES. ONCE I HAD STOP, THE FOCUS WOULD WORK IN ONLY FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. IF YOU TRIED TO GET THE CAR TO GO INTO A HIGHER GEAR THE CLUTCH WOULD ENGAGE PREVENTING YOU TO MOVE FORWARD. THE FIRST TIME I HAD THE FOCUS REPAIRED, THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT IT WAS A DEFECT IN THE SOFTWARE PROGRAM AND REPLACED THE ORIGINAL WITH A NEW SOFTWARE PROGRAM. UPON PICKING UP MY FOCUS AFTER THE FIRST REPAIRS, I ASKED THE FORD SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE, WILL THIS FIX THE PROBLEM? HE WOULD NOT TELL ME THE CAR WAS FIXED, ONLY THAT THE REPAIRS WERE MADE TO FORDS SPECIFICATIONS. LESS THAN 30 DAYS LATER WHILE TRAVELING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, MY FOCUSS TRANSMISSION ONCE AGAIN MALFUNCTIONED WITH THE CLUTCH ENGAGING CAUSING THE CAR TO SLOW DOWN. ONCE AGAIN I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD THROUGH THREE LANES OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE SECOND TIME THE DEALER SHIP REPAIRED THE FOCUS; THEY STATED THAT THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER AND THE SOFTWARE. WHEN I ASKED FOR THE SECOND TIME IS THE CAR IS FIXED, THEY WOULD NOT SAY THAT THE CARS TRANSMISSION WILL NOT MALFUNCTION AGAIN. WE I TOOK THE CAR BACK FOR THE SECOND TIME THE SERVICE REP INFORMED ME THAT THEIR DEALERSHIP HAD THREE OTHER FOCUSES THAT HAD TRANSMISSION FAILURES AND HAD THE SAME REPAIRS THAT MY FORD HAD THE FIRST TIME. THESE CARS ARE DEATH TRAPS AND FORD SHOULD HAVE A TOTAL RECALL ON THEM.
Vehicle speed control, Electronic stability control (ESC), Engine, Sep 25, 2015
THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT HAS HAPPENS WHEN THE CLUTCH IS DEPRESSED. THE RPMS DROP DOWN BELOW 500 AND SOMETIMES THE ENGINE STALLS. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL JUST WAIVER AT LOW RPMS AND REGAIN IDLE.THE CAR HAS ALSO STALLED AT HIGH SPEED ON THE FREEWAY, WITH TRAFFIC BACKED UP, I DEPRESSED THE CLUTCH, AND THE ENGINE STALLED.

CAR JERKS WHEN ACCELERATING. AFTER BEING STOPPED AND STEPPING ON THE GAS, CAR FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT TO THE POINT WHEN IT BEGINS TO MOVE AGAIN IT JERKS YOU BACK IN THE SEAT. MAKES A LOUD GRINDING NOISE UNDER THE HOOD. ALSO, WHEN TURNING THE KEY TO START THE VEHICLE, IT IS HESITANT TO START. CAR SHAKES AND DOES NOT DRIVE AT AN EVEN PACE UNLESS ON THE HIGHWAY AT OR ABOVE 40 MPH. BEEN TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES ABOUT THESE PROBLEMS, ALL TO WHICH THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR.
Power train, Sep 23, 2015
WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 FORD FOCUS ST MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION'S FOURTH GEAR FAILED AFTER I HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION DURING LIGHT ACCELERATION. THEN THREE DAYS LATER MY THIRD GEAR FAILED TO ENGAGE AS WELL. CURRENTLY I AM ON MY SECOND GETRAG SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSION AFTER MY FIRST ONE'S SECOND GEAR FAILED AT 19K MILES IN A SIMILAR FASHION.
Other or unspecified, Sep 22, 2015
THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE HAS LET GO FOUR TIMES. ONE OF THOSE INCIDENTS OCCURRED 24 HOURS AFTER THE MOST RECENT REPLACEMENT (LAST WEEK). THE CAR FAILS TO SHIFT, SLOWS DOWN OR STOPS WHILE DRIVING OR ROLLS WHILE THE CAR IS AT A COMPLETE STOP. THE CAR ALSO FAILS TO REACH SPEEDS QUICKLY AND REQUIRES A LOT OF PRESSURE AND FORCE TO GET THE CAR EVEN UP TO 30 MILES AN HOUR MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAYS, ON-RAMPS AND EVEN GOING AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT.

I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, HAD NOT HAD ANY INDICATION PREVIOUS TO THIS THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR. AS I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION, PULLING AWAY FROM A FULL STOP, THE CAR JUST QUIT. 100% WOULD NOT MOVE ANOTHER INCH EVEN WITH COAXING ETC. AFTER TRYING TO START THE CAR A FEW MORE TIMES I REALIZED IT WAS NOT GOING TO START AGAIN AND GOT IT TOWED. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED. THE WAY THE CAR STOPPED MADE THE SITUATION DANGEROUS. SUDDEN AND WITHOUT WARNING. I PUT THIS HERE, IN CASE IT BECOMES A PATTERN WITH THIS VEHICLE.

THE SAME WEEK I PURCHASED MY NEW FORD FOCUS, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SHUDDER UPON ACCELERATION BUT IT WASNT EVERY TIME I DROVE IT. IT WOULD DO IT FOR A DAY OR TWO THEN STOP FOR SEVERAL WEEKS OR EVEN MONTHS. THEN IT STARTED DOING IT EVERY TIME I DROVE IT.. I CONTACTED FORD, TOOK IT IN AND THEY TOLD ME THEY FIXED IT. IT APPEARED TO BE FIXED FOR A WHILE THEN STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. ONCE AGAIN, I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD, WAS TOLD THEY WERE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH THAT YEAR AND ONCE AGAIN I WAS ASSURED IT WAS FIXED. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK 4 OR 5 TIMES NOW FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND EACH TIME HAVE BEEN TOLD FORD HAS FOUND A NEW WAY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME I HAD IT IN WAS AUGUST,7,2015. I WAS TOLD ONCE AGAIN THAT THERE WAS A NEW FIX FOR THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT WAS FIXED. WITHIN A COUPLE OF DAYS IT STARTED SHUDDERING AGAIN. ITS DOING JUST LIKE ALWAYS . STARTS OUT JUST EVERY NOW AND THEN AND THEN GETS TO BE CONSTANT. I HAVE NOTICED A DIFFERENT PROBLEM ALSO. SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO WANT TO KEEP GOING WHEN I AM TRYING TO SLOW DOWN OR COME TO A STOP IT SEEMS TO STICK. ITS VERY SCARY. I AM ACTUALLY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AT THIS POINT.

MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS CAR. SHE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THE STEERING CONTROL WOULD NO LONGER WORK AND COULD BARELY CONTROL THE DIRECTION OF THE CAR. THIS OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS IN OPERATION AND BEING DRIVEN DOWN A HIGHWAY I ADVISED HER TO PULL OVER AND GIVE ME HER LOCATION. WHEN I GOT THE CAR, I VERIFIED THAT STEERING WAS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. I CHECKED THE TILT AND TELESCOPING STEERING AND HAD NO EFFECT. I THEN CHECKED FOR FLUID, DOES NOT EXIST. LASTLY, I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN RE STARTED. AT RESTART, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING THEN WORKED PROPERLY. I THEN REPORTED TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY CHECKED TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS EXISTED FOR THE REPORTED PROBLEM AND WAS ADVISED THAT NONE EXISTED. THE DEALERSHIP THEN TOLD ME THAT IF I HAD ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS TO LET THEM KNOW.

THEY KEPT TELLING ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. THIS CAR HAS HAD A DEFECTIVE TCM MODULE SINCE THE DAY I BOUGHT IT. ON SEPTEMBER 2ND MY LIFE WAS ENDANGERED ON THE FWY DUE TO NEGLIGENCE BY BOTH FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND CARUSO FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS A DEFECTIVE PROBLEM. I HAVE READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ON HERE. I BLAME CARUSO FORD MORE ON THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY HAVE FAILED TO LISTEN TO ME AND FAIL TO DO A PROPER INTERNAL CHECK WHICH PUT MY LIFE AT RISK. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK AND HOME ON 10 DAYS LATER THE ISSUE RE-OCCURRED. DRIVING IN DC ON A HIGHWAYS IS EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS AND DANGEROUS FOR ALL ON THE ROAD. IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT I WAS BY MYSELF AND NOT MY WHOLE FAMILY IN THE CAR.
