  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

  10. Exterior lightingAug 1, 2013

Ford is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 Focus BEV vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured September 15, 2011, through May 6, 2013; and model year 2013 Focus ST vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlights, manufactured February 16, 2012, through May 7, 2013. Due to a wiring incompatability, the front side marker lamps may not function. Thus, these vehicles fail to comply to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Without the proper illumination of the side maker lamps, the vehicle may be less visible in night time conditions, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will modify the headlamp assembly wiring, free of charge. The recall began on August 16, 2013. Owners may contact the Ford customer relationship center at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's recall number is 13C04.

  11. Latches/locks/linkagesMar 7, 2013

Ford is recalling certain model year 2013 Focus and C-Max vehicles built from November 16, 2012, through November 21, 2012; and model year 2013 Escape vehicles manufactured from November 14, 2012, through November 21, 2012. The left rear door child lock was built incorrectly. As a result, the child lock may not engage when the operator uses normal force to activate the child lock.

The operator may incorrectly believe the child lock is engaged. However, the door may be opened from the inside, increasing the risk of injury to an unrestrained child.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the affected rear door latches, and replace them as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on March 27, 2013. Owners may contact Ford Motor Company Customer Relationship Center at 1-866-436-7332.

  12. EquipmentOct 2, 2012

This recall involves aftermarket parts sold by Yakima Products, Inc. for use on model year 2012 and 2013 Ford Focus vehicles. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not by Ford. Certain combined Q-Tower and Q128 Clip rooftop rack systems, part numbers 8000124 and 8000728, do not fully contact the door frame.

Without proper contact of the rooftop rack clip to the door frame, there is insufficient clamping pressure and friction. The system may slide off the vehicle when loaded with accessories, possibly becoming a road hazard to other vehicles or causing injury to pedestrians.

Yakima will notify owners, and Yakima or a Yakima dealer will refund the purchase of the Q-Tower and Q-128 Clip system. There is no replacement system available for the 2012-2013 model year Ford Focus. The safety recall began on October 15, 2012. Only vehicles equipped with the vehicle rack system are affected. This recall is being conducted by Yakima, not Ford. Owners may contact Yakima at 1-888-925-4621.

  1. Power train, Engine, Feb 13, 2013

I OWN A 2013 FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK TITANIUM MODEL. PURCHASED THE CAR IN JANUARY 2013. CURRENTLY HAS 1100 MILES ON IT. CAR HAS A SIX-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION THAT FORD HAS DUBBED "POWERSHIFT". TRANSMISSION IS VERY JITTERY AT ALL SPEEDS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS WHILE ACCELERATING. IT IS ALSO HESITANT TO SHIFT GEARS AND PICK UP SPEED. IT SEEMS LIKE SOMETHING IS GOING TO BREAK INSIDE THE ENGINE AND THE CAR JERKS WHEN SHIFTING GEARS. FROM A STANDING STOP THE CAR WILL START TO ROLL BACK WHEN YOU LET OFF THE BRAKE AND STEP ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR

  2. Structure, Jan 26, 2013

THIS IS A COPY OF COMPLAINT SENT TO FORD... "THE HOOD ON MY ONE MONTH OLD FOCUS HAS POPPED FOUR (4) TIMES. TODAY I BROUGHT IT IN TO MY DEALER (RT 23 AUTO MALL, BUTLER, NJ) AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT "MAY" BE MY FOOT ACTIVATING THE HOOD LATCH. IF MY FOOT CAN OPEN THE CAR HOOD, YOU HAVE A SERIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM. (WHICH WE ALREADY KNOW FROM THE OTHER DESIGN ISSUES THE FOCUS HAS). THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!!! FORD SHOULD REMOVE ALL FOCUS' FROM THE ROAD IMMEDIATELY. MY DEALER AGREED AND GAVE ME A LOANER. THEY WILL BE CONTACTING YOU MONDAY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. IF I WAS ABLE TO TEST DRIVE THE FOCUS FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR, I PROBABLY (DEFINITELY) WOULD NOT HAVE PURCHASED IT. I HAD CONVINCED MYSELF TO BUY AN AMERICAN MADE CAR, BUT I WAS WRONG!" *TR

  3. Steering, Jan 24, 2013

APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES INTO TRIP TO WORK FROM HOME THE POWER ASSIST STEERING ON MY 2013 FORD FOCUS FAILED AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE BECAME SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFICULT TO STEER. LUCKLY I WAS ON A STRAIGHT PATH, HAD THIS HAPPENED IN A TURN, AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY OCCURED. AT THE POINT WHERE THE POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILED A MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARDS LED DISPLAY THAT READ SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT THAT LOSE OF POWER ASSITED STEERING DETECTED. AFTER THE MESSAGE DISAPPEARED, THE VEHICLE'S (!) LIGHT REMAINED LITE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHO AFTER LOOKING AT IT STATED THAT THE TECHNICIAN STARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT RAN PERFECTLY. NO ISSES WITH THE STEERING AT ALL, BUT THAT THERE WERE SOME "CODES" LOOGED IN THE VEHICLE'S SYSTEM THAT THEY WERE UNFAMILIAR WITH AND WERE TRYING TO REACH THE "FORD HOTLINE" FOR FURTHER HELP. *TR

  4. Power train, Jan 16, 2013

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR DOORS WERE OPENED, AN UNUSUAL NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 564.

  5. Steering, Jan 10, 2013

DRIVING STRAIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY ~50MPH THE CAR SEEMED TO BE DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT AS THOUGH BEING BLOWN BY HEAVY WINDS, ALTHOUGH THERE WAS LITTLE/NO WIND THAT DAY. I APPLIED A TYPICAL, SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT TO THE LEFT BUT THE STEERING WHEEL RESISTED MY INPUT, AS THOUGH SOMEBODY WAS HOLDING ONTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE RIGHT, AFTER A SPLIT SECOND, THE OPPOSING PRESSURE RELEASED AND THE WHEEL OVERCORRECTED TO THE LEFT FOLLOWED BY THE IDENTICAL RESPONSE WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO CORRECT BACK TO THE RIGHT. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS EVERY MILE OR SO, FOR APPROXIMATELY 9 MILES, UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE HIGHWAY. AT LOWER SPEEDS (CITY DRIVING) THE STEERING IS COMPLETELY NORMAL. THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED ON THREE DIFFERENT STRETCHES OF HIGHWAY IN THE JACKSONVILLE AREA. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT LANES, CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE, AND I HAD THE DEALERSHIP CHECK IT BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. APPLYING LIGHT/STEADY/EVEN PRESSURE IN THE DIRECTION OF THE DESIRED CORRECTION, WITHOUT APPLYING PRESSURE BEYOND THE POINT WHERE YOU FEEL THE RESISTANCE SEEMS TO HELP PREVENT THE OVERCORRECTION PROBLEM. ON 9 JAN, WHEN CROSSING UNEVEN LANES ON THE HIGHWAY DUE TO CONSTRUCTION, THE WHEEL PULLED TO THE RIGHT MORE THAN YOU'D EVER EXPECT UNDER THESE CONDITIONS AND I ENDED UP HALF WAY INTO THE NEXT LANE. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO CARS IN THAT LANE OTHERWISE IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A COLLISION WITHOUT A DOUBT. THAT WAS FOLLOWED BY AN OVERCORRECTION TO THE LEFT, AND AGAIN BACK TO THE RIGHT. I HAD TO SLOW DOWN BELOW 40MPH BEFORE THE RESISTANCE IN THE STEERING EASED UP. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY THAT I AM VERY FAMILIAR WITH; I HAVE TRAVELED IT WITHOUT INCIDENT ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS, AND I WAS PREPARED FOR THE TRANSITION BETWEEN THE TWO UNEVEN LANES. I HAVE DRIVEN OTHER VEHICLES WITH EPAS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!! *TR

  6. Power train, Jan 9, 2013

WHEN SLOWING DOWN IN TRAFFIC OR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, AND THEN HAVE TO ACCELERATE IT FEELS LIKE THE CAR HESITATES OR STUTTERS TO GET INTO THE NEXT GEAR. IF SLOWING DOWN FOR TRAFFIC, AND THEN ACCELERATING THE CAR HESITATES TO GO FORWARD, THE ENGINE REVS BUT HESITATES TO GO FORWARD. IT IS LIKE BEING IN NEUTRAL FOR A FEW SECONDS. I NOTICED AT THIS TIME THE NEEDLE FOR THE TACHOMETER WENT UP TO PAST THE NUMBER 4. *TR

  7. Power train, Electrical system, Jan 6, 2013, crash

INCIDENT HAPPENED WHILE IN PARK - STOPPED THE CAR AND PLACED IT IN PARK (THOUGHT I DID) SHUT THE CAR OFF AND LOCKED THE VEHICLE AND ENTERED THE STORE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AND HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS OBVISIOUSLY NOT IN PARK BUT ALLOWED ME TO EXIT THE VEHICLE AND LOCK THE DOORS WHILE NOT IN PARK. I HAVE NOTICED THIS BEFORE AND FIND THAT YOU NEED TO ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK TO MAKE SURE IT IS IN PARK. THIS IS A KEYLESS VEHICLE - OTHER KEYED VEHICLES THAT I OWN WILL NOT ALLOW YOU TO PULL THE KEYS OUT IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK. THIS APPEARS TO BE A FLAW IN THIS KEYLESS VEHICLE.. *TR

  8. Power train, Nov 26, 2012

TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER TRAVELING UPHILL, THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL AWAY IN REVERSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER SWITCHING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND THAT THE OCCURRENCE WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE RECEIVED INFORMATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER THAT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SUPPOSED TO ROLL AWAY IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 500. KMJ

  9. Seats, Nov 20, 2012

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEAD RESTRAINT WERE NOT ADJUSTABLE AND WOULD PUSH HIS HEAD FORWARD TO THE POINT WHERE HE WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHO SUGGESTED THAT THE CONTACT PURCHASE THE ADJUSTABLE HEAD RESTRAINTS. THE CONTACT FOUND THE SOLUTION TO BE UNREASONABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 300.

  10. Power train, Nov 9, 2012

I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION HUNTED FOR A GEAR BUT SEEMED TO GET STUCK BETWEEN GEARS AND ACTED AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE RPMS STAYED UP SINCE I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINE RPMS DIDN'T DROP, BUT KIND OF JUMPED AROUND. I TRIED APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT JUST REVVED AND DIDN'T ACCELERATE. I THEN STOPPED APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR, SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL, THEN SHIFTED BACK TO DRIVE AND THE TRANSMISSION FOUND A GEAR AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. *TR

  11. Power train, Oct 30, 2012

AT APPROXIMATELY 7:15 AM, ROADWAY WAS WET (PREVIOUSLY RAINED), TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH IN LANE 3 OF 3 AND CHANGING LANE INTO LANE 2 OF 3 WHILE MILDLY ACCELERATING AND THEN LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR LIGHTLY AS CHANGING LANE (APPROACHING REAR OF VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME). AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE AFTER CHANGING INTO LANE 2, THE VEHICLE APPARENTLY SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WITHOUT USER INPUT, ENGINE COULD BE REVVED TO 5K RPM WITH NO EFFECT ON FORWARD SPEED. I MOVED GEAR SELECTOR INTO N FROM D AND BACK, AND D TO L AND BACK WITH NO EFFECT. I HAD TO PULL OVER TO FAR LEFT AS IT WAS UNSAFE TO MOVE TO RIGHT. VEHICLE WAS OTHERWISE COASTING WITH VERY LITTLE RESISTANCE (SPEED LOSS WAS VERY GRADUAL SUGGESTING NO BRAKING EFFECT VIA ENGINE COMPRESSION). ONCE I REACHED APPROXIMATELY 10-15 MPH THE TRANSMISSION REENGAGED A GEAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED WITHOUT USER COMMAND, CAUSING LOSS OF PROPULSION AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION OF BEING STRUCK FROM BEHIND. *TR

  12. Electrical system, Oct 18, 2012

THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GAUGES ARE HARD TO READ ON A SUNNY DAY. THE VISION OF THE SPEEDOMETER, WHILE DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY IS VERY HARD TO READ. IT IS A DISTRACTION TO STARE AT THE SPEEDOMETER, TO SEE THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ARE SET AT THE BRIGHTEST SETTING. THE GLARE FROM THE POLISHED ALUMINUM ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS ALSO A DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING ON A SUNNY DAY. THE CLUSTER GAUGE BACK LIGHTS NEED TO BE BRIGHTER. MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS NOT A HELP... *TR
