Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Power train, Vehicle speed control, Other or unspecified, Jun 13, 2015
SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH OF 2014, IT HAS BUCKED AT SLOW ACCELERATION AT SPEEDS OF 10-25 MILES PER HOUR. THIS CAUSED VIBRATION OF THE REAR END AND INCONSISTENT ACCELERATION. IT OCCURS MORE OFTEN IN HOT WEATHER. I HAVE HAD IT CHECK TWICE, BUT THE DEALERS SAY THAT IT IS NORMAL WITH THIS TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. IT ALSO IS MORE PREVALENT IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, May 21, 2015
WHEN I AM ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR SHAKES AT HIGHER RPMS IN FIRST GEAR AND WHEN IT IS TRYING TO SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR FROM FIRST. THE CAR HAPHAZARDLY ACCELERATES OR SOMETIMES WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL. SPOKE TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THIS IS NORMAL, BUT I DISAGREE.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Other or unspecified, May 20, 2015
EVER SINCE AROUND 10,000 MILES, MY 2014 FORD FOCUS HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING DELAYED ACCELERATION AND DECELERATION, GRINDING NOISES COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION, SHAKING, ROUGH STARTS, AND SHUTTERING. IT'S CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD RAPIDLY AFTER NOT INITIALLY ACCELERATING, WITH A FEW CLOSE CALLS IN TRAFFIC. FORD IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. I'VE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE IN TO BE SERVICED, ONLY TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THE PART ISN'T AVAILABLE. IT'S BEEN 4 MONTHS, STILL WAITING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, May 12, 2015, crash
AFTER DRIVING INTO HOUSTON LAST YEAR, CAME TO A STOP LIGHT ON THE TOLLWAY. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE ENGINED REVVED HIGH FOLLOWED BY A METAL "CLAPPING/CLANKING" NOISE WHEN VEHICLE CHANGED GEARS. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR, BUT CAR STILL ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. I ENDED UP RUNNING INTO A CURB TO KEEP FROM HITTING OTHER VEHICLES. THE NEXT DAY, GOING UP A PARKING GARAGE AT 2-5MPH, TRANSMISSION EXHIBITED ERRATIC MOVEMENT AND HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN REVERSE (GEARSHIFT WAS IN THE "DRIVE" SLOT). A GIRL WAS PASSING BEHIND ME AND WAS STRUCK AS I WAS REACTING TO THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN DIRECTION TRYING TO BRAKE. SHE PUT HER HANDS OUT TO PUSH HERSELF AWAY AND HER RING SCRATCHED MY BACK BUMPER AND HER HAND DENTED IN MY BACK LICENSE PLATE. HER HAND WAS TURNING RED AND BRUISED, BUT SHE REFUSED TO LEAVE HER INFO WITH ME (SHE LOOKED TO BE ABOUT 15). SERVICE DEALERS IN HOUSTON COULD NOT "REPLICATE" PROBLEM AND SAID THIS IS "NORMAL." AFTER THIS INCIDENT, MY HIGHWAY MPG'S HAVE DROPPED FROM 35-42MPG TO NO MORE THAN 27MPG. CITY WENT FROM 26-30 TO NO MORE THAN 24MPG. DROVE TO AUSTIN IN APRIL, STRONG HESITATION AND "STUTTERING" FROM A COMPLETE OR NEAR STOP. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IT FEELS JUMPY. VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN BETWEEN 5-20MPH, AND 45-55MPH. I DRIVE ON A COLLEGE CAMPUS WHERE SPEED IS 20MPH AND I WILL HAVE TO PUT CAR INTO NEUTRAL TO KEEP IT FROM ACCELERATING. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AT AROUND 100 MILES - THEY GAVE ME A PRINTOUT FROM FORD SHOWING WHY THIS BEHAVIOR IS "NORMAL" AND WILL GET BETTER WITH MORE MILEAGE. AT AROUND 6000 MILES AT THE DEALERSHIP IN HOUSTON AFTER INJURING SOMEONE, THEY SAID IT WAS "NORMAL" FOR THIS VEHICLE TO EXHIBIT "UNDESIRABLE CONDITIONS" AND I JUST NEED TO FURTHER BREAK IN THE TRANSMISSION. NOW THE PROBLEM IS EVEN WORSE, AND MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP SAYS IT WILL TAKE AT LEAST 2 WEEKS IN THE SHOP.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, May 6, 2015
WHEN THE VEHICLE COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP THEN WHEN YOU SPEED UP IT JERKS 5 TO 8 TIME FAILING TO SPEED UP. THE ONLY WAY IT CAN SPEED UP IS IF YOU PRESS THE PEDAL MORE AND TRY TO GO FASTER. ALSO TODAY 5/6/2015 WE WERE AT THE INTERSTATE AND WE WERE IN TRAFFIC AND THE CAR DIDN'T WANTED TO PICK UP, ONLY IF YOU PRESS THE PEDAL MORE THEN IS MAKING THE CAR GO FASTER THEN I WANT TO GO. IS LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO GO NO WHERE. THEN ON MY WAY BACK ON THE INTERSTATE I PRESS THE PEDAL AND AT 30 MPH GOING UP THE SLOPE I SLOWED DOWN IT DID A HARD JERK. OTHER THING I NOTICED IS THAT WHEN I USE THE ELECTRONIC MANUAL SHIFT IS DELAYED MAKING THE CAR GO ON A HIGH RPM. CAR PURCHASE DATE 5/1/2015 2014 FORD FOCUS. *TR
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Apr 23, 2015
VEHICLE SHAKES, HESITATES, SHUDDERS FROM STOP AND AT SLOW SPEEDS. VERY JERKY AND INCONSISTENT SHIFTING THROUGH THE FIRST 2 TO 3 GEARS. NOT AS APPARENT AT SPEEDS OVER 25MPH. *TR
Vehicle speed control, Apr 23, 2015
THE CAR SHUTTERS AT EVERY PUSH OF THE GAS, I HAVE TAKEN INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT IT'S A EUROPEAN TRANSMISSION AND IT'S GOING TO DO THAT, THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIME WHEN I HAVE COME CLOSE TO SOMEONE HITTING ME BECAUSE IT SHUTTERS SO BAD AND THEN DECREASES IN SPEED. IF I HAD KNOW WHEN I BOUGHT THIS CAR THAT IT DID THIS THEN I WOULD OF NEVER BOUGHT IT. *TR
Vehicle speed control, Mar 31, 2015
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, WHEN LEAVING A STOP SIGN/LIGHT, THE CAR WILL SHUDDER AND CHOKE AS IF IT GOING TO TURN OFF. THE CAR IDLES AROUND 750 RPMS WHEN THIS OCCURS. I AM NOT SURE IF THAT IS ABNORMAL OR NOT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT FEELS AS IF THE ISSUE IS OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY. FOR EXAMPLE, I HAVE NOTICED WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THAT SOME TIMES WHEN I ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WILL NOT RESPOND AS IT SHOULD WHILE OTHER TIMES IT WILL RESPOND QUITE QUICKLY AND AS I WOULD EXPECT. MY CONCERN IS IF THE ISSUE IS GETTING WORSE, WILL I BE PUT IN A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION THAT COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
Vehicle speed control, Engine, Mar 30, 2015, crash
WHILE DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC THE CAR ACCELERATED, LURCHING FORWARD, INSTEAD OF STOPPING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, CAUSING ME TO STRIKE THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. CAR TRANSMISSION REVVED AND GAVE THE SOUND OF A CAR SHIFTING GEARS, AND CONTINUED TO REV FOR SEVERAL SECONDS AFTER IMPACT. *TR
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Mar 24, 2015
WHILE TAKING TURNS AT 10 - 15 MPH SPEED AND/OR WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE GIVES OUT A SERIES OF RATTLING NOISES WITH THE TRANSMISSION. THIS SEEMS TO OCCURS AT NO / PARTIAL THROTTLE BEING APPLIED. AT TIMES, WHILE ACCELERATING FROM STOP, THE VEHICLE SHATTERS QUITE STRONGLY. THE SHUDDER IS PRETTY STRONG WHEN IT OCCURS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP ON AN INCLINE. *TR
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Mar 2, 2015
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND ACCELERATED IN EXCESS INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEALS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
Vehicle speed control, Feb 28, 2015

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT MY CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, ONCE WHILE STOPPED, THE SECOND TIME WHILE DRIVING. THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF OCCURRED WHILE STOPPED AT 0 MILES PER HOUR AT A DRIVE-THROUGH, I HAD TO PUSH ON THE BRAKES HARDER TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. A SECOND OCCURRENCE OCCURRED YESTERDAY ON FEBRUARY 14 OF 2014. I WAS DRIVING AT 35 MILES PER HOUR IN A 45 MILES PER HOUR ZONE WHEN THE CAR AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING ACCELERATED; I HAD TO STEER THE CAR INTO A SNOW BANK AND I ALMOST HIT A LARGE TREE I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE ABOVE OCCURRENCES AND I WILL GET IN TOUCH WITH MY FORD DEALERSHIP TOMORROW TO SEE WHAT CAN BE DONE AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WART WAS EVALUATED AND I WAS ADVISED THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. *TR

2014 FORD FOCUS THE TRANSMISSION STUTTERS, GRINDS AND IS VERY SHAKY. UPON ACCELERATION ITS VERY JUMPY AND STUTTERS AND FOLLOWED BY A GRIND NOISE. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED ALL THE INDIVIDUAL CLUTCHES. THEY TOLD ME DRIVE IT A BIT. THE STUTTER HAS STOPPED A LITTLE BUT IT STILL STUTTERS AND GRINDS. I TRIED TO IGNORE THIS FOR A WHILE BECAUSE IT IS VERY INCONVENIENT FOR YOUR VEHICLE TO BE IN SHOP. THEY SHOULD REALLY MAKE IT STANDARD FOR ALL FORD DEALERSHIPS TO PROVIDE A RENTAL CAR IF YOUR VEHICLE IS UNDER WARRANTY. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO THAT THERE WOULD NOT BE ANY PROBLEMS AND NOW I AM ALWAYS HAVING TO BRING IT IN. THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY RE PROGRAMMED IT. THE THIRD TIME I TOOK IT IN THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY REPROGRAMMED IT AGAIN AND A WEEK LATER IT IS STILL HAPPENING. THIS IS VERY CONCERNING AND UNSAFE. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS CARE TO ANYONE I KNOW, NOR WILL I. *TR

I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW. I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH A TIGHT BUDGET SO I WAS LOOKING FOR A VERY DEPENDABLE CAR. I STARTED NOTICING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS AFTER THE FIRST FEW WEEKS OF BUYING THE CAR. WHEN I WOULD GO DRIVE UP THE RAMP ON TO THE FREEWAY, I WASN'T ABLE TO SPEED UP WITH THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC. THIS CAUSED EXTREME SAFELY ISSUES AS DRIVERS WOULD HONK AND GET BACKED UP BECAUSE I WASN'T ABLE TO ACCELERATE. I ALSO NOTICED A CLICKING SOUND WHEN WITHIN THE FIRST FEW SECONDS OF ACCELERATING AFTER A STOP. IT SOUNDED LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE OR BROKEN IN THE ENGINE. MY MOM CAME TO VISIT AFTER 2 MONTHS OF HAVING THE CAR. SHE DROVE THE CAR AND SAID THIS DOESN'T SEEM RIGHT, TAKE IT IN. SO I BROUGHT IT TO MY FORD DEALER. I SAID THIS CAR DOES NOT DRIVE SAFE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING WITH MY 5 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. THEY SAID THEY WOULD FIX IT AT NO COST. THEY HAD THE CAR FOR 10 DAYS. ONCE I GOT THE CAR BACK, I STILL NOTICED SOME OF THE SAME PROBLEMS, BUT THE MECHANIC TOLD ME "IT WILL TAKE ABOUT 1000 MILES MORE BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS TO RUN NORMAL." THAT WASN'T VERY SATISFYING TO HEAR. PRESENTLY, I STILL HAVE THE CAR. IT STILL HAS SAFETY ISSUES. I DON'T DRIVE LONG DISTANCES IN IT, BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I'VE SAVED UP HARD EARNED MONEY TO HAVE A DEPENDABLE/SAFE CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER AND I AND I HAVE THE EXACT OPPOSITE. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD AGAIN. *TR

TRACTION CONTROL ISSUE.... DURING SNOWSTORM , TRYING TO DRIVE UP A HILL WITH A LEFT HAND TURN , TIRES LOST TRACTION AND CAR ELECTRONICALLY REDUCED RPM SPEED... LOSS OF SPEED ALMOST SENT CAR SIDEWAYS INTO DITCH. HAD TO TURN AROUND AND GET RUN AT HILL 4 MORE TIMES.... EACH TIME WHEN TRACTION WITH TIRES WAS BROKEN ...RPMS WERE DROPPED TO NOTHING LEAVING CAR STOPPED NEAR STALLING IN MIDDLE OF HILL. WILL BE DEALING WITH DEALERSHIP SOON.. I FEEL THAT THE FIX FOR THIS IS GOING TO BE REMOVE FUSE FOR TRACTION CONTROL.....OR DISABLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM.. THIS CAR IS A STICK SHIFT... BRAND NEW 2014 FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC - LESS THAN 200 MILES ON ODOMETER. DRIVING ON 35MPH ROAD DURING EVENING RUSH HOUR THE CAR SUDDENLY FLASHED A "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING ON THE DASH. AS I LOOKED FOR A PLACE TO PULL OVER THE CAR SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY (DASH GAUGES WENT DARK...ESTIMATED LESS THAN 10 SECONDS AFTER WARNING MESSAGE). FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING LOT BECAUSE I WAS AT SPEED BUT I LOST POWER STEERING. HEADLIGHTS FLICKERING, RELAYS CLICKING, ETC. I CALLED FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE FOR A TOW. HAD THIS HAPPENED AT A FASTER SPEED ON A HIGHWAY, I OR OTHER DRIVERS COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED OR SEVERELY INJURED. FORD SUPPOSEDLY CORRECTED THIS DEFECTED IN EARLIER MODELS YEARS. AT THIS POINT I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL I HAVE POSITIVE CONFIRMATION THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED. FORD IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE IF THEY DON'T GET THIS CORRECTED! ON 4 SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITH 48 HOURS THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING APPEARED ON THE DASH ACCOMPANIED WITH A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND/OR THE ENGINE SHUTTING OFF WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. THESE OCCURRED IN DISTINCTLY DIFFERENT SCENARIOS: WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, WHILE BRAKING, AND TWO OCCURRENCES WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 MPH AND 35 MPH. THE BRAKES AND STEERING THANKFULLY STILL WORKED HOWEVER ACCIDENTS ALMOST OCCURRED IN THE TWO HIGHER SPEED SCENARIOS. THE VEHICLE COULD BE RESTARTED AFTER IT WAS TURNED OFF AND ON AGAIN.
