Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.

An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S40. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

  1. Power train, Oct 30, 2014

THE TRANSMISSION ON THIS VEHICLE IS VERY POOR. IT LAGS, SHUDDERS VIOLENTLY, KNOCKS, ETC. IT EVEN SOMETIMES JOLTS FORWARD OR HESITATES. THESE ISSUES OCCUR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, ON HILLS, AND ON TURNS. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE AND WORRIED ABOUT THESE ISSUES WHILE I'M DRIVING THIS CAR. *TR

  2. Steering, Oct 29, 2014

THE STEERING IS VERY RESPONSIVE - THERE IS NO CENTER ON THE STEERING. YOU MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL 1/4" AND THE CAR WILL MOVE. WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING YOU NEED TO CONSTANTLY CORRECT THE STEERING AND ARE OFTEN GOING BACK AND FORTH IN YOUR LANE. YOU CAN'T TAKE YOUR EYE OFF THE ROAD FOR A SECOND OR YOU WILL BE OFF THE ROAD OR IN THE OPPOSITE LANE. I GLANCED OVER TO THE PASSENGER WINDOW TO SEE HOW FAR IT WAS DOWN AND I ALMOST HIT A STONE WALL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY HUSBAND GLANCED DOWN TO SEE THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTONS AND WHEN HE LOOKED BACK UP HE WAS 3' ACROSS THE CENTER LINE. NEITHER TIME DID WE HAVE OUR EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR MORE THAN 1 SECOND. WHEN YOU ARE TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS THE HANDLING IS WORSE - ON THE MASS PIKE OR GARDEN STATE PARKWAY YOU HAVE TO FIGHT IT ALL THE TIME. IF YOU ARE CHANGING LANES YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL BECAUSE WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK YOUR SIDE MIRRORS BEFORE CHANGING THE CAR WILL OFTEN CROSS INTO ONE LANE OR THE OTHER. WHEN YOU PULL OUT TO PASS ON A 2 LANE ROAD YOU BETTER HAVE 2 HANDS ON THE WHEEL OR YOU WILL LOSE CONTROL - THE SAME GOES IF YOU NEED TO GET ON THE BRAKES HARD. THE CAR HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND IF YOU DON'T HAVE TWO HANDS ON THE WHEEL YOU ARE LIABLE TO END UP HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE OR GOING OFF THE ROAD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO MY FORD DEALER AND THEY DROVE IT. THEY DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING, BUT WHEN YOU DRIVE 40 MILES ROUNDTRIP TO WORK EVERYDAY YOU NOTICE IT. THEY DID CHECK FOR RECALLS, ETC AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE LONGER THE TRIP THE WORSE IT IS. I TRADED IN A 2012 FOCUS FOR THIS CAR AND AM I EVER SORRY I DID. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE 3 YEAR LEASE TO BE UP AND JUST PRAY I DON'T HURT SOMEONE BECAUSE OF THE HANDLING. WE HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER COMPLAINTS EXACT OR VERY SIMILAR TO MINE AND THEY ARE ALL HAVING TO DO WITH THE 2014 FOCUS. *TR

  3. Electrical system, Oct 28, 2014

I PURCHASED A 2014 FORD FOCUS BACK ON APRIL 24, 2014. I TOOK MY CAR TO CROWN FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR THE SECOND TIME ON 9/02/14 TO BE SERVICE FOR SHUDDERING, LOSS OF POWER, PASSENGER WINDOW WOULDN'T LET DOWN, IT ROLLS BACKWARDS ON INCLINE WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, AND HAS THIS GRINDING NOISE. FORD WAS SAYING THIS IS NORMAL, IF THIS IS THE NEW NORMAL, THEN I PASS ON PURCHASING A FORD. I FEEL THIS CAR IS NEEDING TO BE RECALL BEFORE THERE ARE MORE SERIOUS INJURIES. I AM 21 YEARS OLD AND I FEEL THIS CAR IS AN INCREASE RISK FOR A ACCIDENT. *TR

  4. Power train, Oct 27, 2014

FORD FOCUS TITANIUM - AT 6,200 MILES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO START OUT AT LOW SPEEDS, TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS AS IF IT IS CONFUSED AS TO WHAT GEAR IT SHOULD BE IN. DEALER ADVISED THAT THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES AND VEHICLE IS WORKING AS DESIGNED. VEHICLE NOW HAS 8,000 MILES AND TRANSMISSION IS BEGINNING TO HESITATE AND SHUTTER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO YIELD ON TO FREEWAY. CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER CARE- ADVISED TO TAKE VEHICLE BACK TO FORD DEALER FOR ADDITIONAL EVALUATION.. *TR

  5. Power train, Electrical system, Oct 23, 2014

VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH FORD'S 'AUTOMATIC/MANUAL HYBRID' TRANSMISSION. VEHICLE BEGAN STUTTERING ABOUT A MONTH AFTER PURCHASING. PURCHASED VEHICLE BRAND NEW IN JANUARY WITH 44 MILES ON IT. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM FULL STOP, VEHICLE SHUDDERS AS IF THERE WERE ISSUES WITH THE AIR INTAKE, FUEL, OR TRANSMISSION. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO TWO SEPARATE FORD DEALERSHIPS (INCLUDING WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED) AND WAS TOLD THAT THAT'S JUST HOW IT RUNS. PREVIOUS CAR WAS A MANUAL. WHOMEVER IS OPERATING THE CLUTCH UNDER THE HOOD, NEEDS A LESSON IN DRIVING! FEELS LIKE VEHICLE IS GOING TO STALL EVERY TIME. *TR

  6. Power train, Oct 22, 2014

THE VEHICLE REGULARLY SHUDDERS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP AND HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A LOW SPEED ROLL. LESS FREQUENTLY THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO LAG AND THEN LUNGE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS APPLIED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS DECELERATING AND THE TRANSMISSION IS DOWNSHIFTING. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE INDICATED THE PROBLEMS ARE COMMON FOR WHICH THERE IS NO CORRECTIVE ACTION. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS THE MOST CURRENT TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE UPDATE. WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF FORD, THROUGH A PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED BY THE DEALER, THE EXISTENCE OF A KNOWN PROBLEM WAS DENIED BY FORD. DURING THE COMPLAINT INVESTIGATION THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE DENIED STATING THAT THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE. THE SHUDDERING AND HESITATION CHARACTERISTICS PRESENT A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN QUICK ACCELERATION IS REQUIRED. THE HERKY JERKY NATURE OF THE SHUDDERING AND TRANSMISSION SHIFTING CAUSE CONCERN THAT, IN THE FUTURE, THE PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION WILL WEAR AND FAIL PREMATURELY. *TR

  7. Power train, Oct 22, 2014

ON AUGUST 2, 2014 PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AT TED BRITT FORD AND FAIRFAX VIRGINIA ON THE WAY HOME FELT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPPING CALL DEALER ON AUGUST 4TH 2014 WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPUTER DRIVEN AND NEEDED TO GET USED TO THE WAY I DROVE OCTOBER 1ST 2014 STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE MILEAGE 1,707 MILES WENT TO HAGERSTOWN FORD TO HAVE TRANSMISSION CHECK THEY INFORMED ME COMPUTER HAD THE NEWEST UPDATE FOR THE TRANSMISSION VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN BY TECHNICIAN AND SERVICE DIRECTOR SERVICE ORDER SAYS VEHICLE COMPARES WITH SIMILAR VEHICLES OK AT THIS TIME SOFTWARE IS CURRENT AND UP-TO-DATE NO FURTHER ACTION REQUIRED AT THIS TIME. *TR

  8. Power train, Oct 21, 2014

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT CAME ON AND IT BEGAN TO SPUTTER. WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, IT ACCELERATED THEN JERKED AND DROPPED DOWN TO 50 MPH WHILE MY FOOT WAS STILL ON THE GAS. AT TIMES, IT SLOWED NEARLY TO A STOP THEN WOULD LURCH FORWARD. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON, THE WARNING LIGHT WENT AWAY. HAVING TO TRANSPORT YOUR CHILDREN DAILY MAKES IT A CONCERN ESPECIALLY UPON READING REPORTS ABOUT OTHER OWNERS OF THIS 2014 FORD FOCUS ARE HAVING THE EXACT PROBLEM FOR WHICH NOTHING IS BEING DONE. *TR

  9. Power train, Oct 21, 2014

IN JUNE OF 2014 NOT EVEN A FULL 6 MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT MY 2014 FORD FOCUS IT STARTED TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. IT FEELS LIKE IT'S HAVING A HARD TIME ACCELERATING AND WHEN IT FINALLY GETS MOVING IT JERKS ALL OVER THE PLACE. I FEEL LIKE I'M DRIVING A MANUAL AND IT'S AN AUTOMATIC. I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR BACK INTO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. *TR

  10. Power train, Oct 16, 2014

WHEN I STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT AND THEN TAKE OFF AGAIN MY CAR SHUDDERS AS I TRY TO START DRIVING. THEN, WHEN I TRY TO ACCELERATE IT LAGS, AND I HAVE TO PUT THE PEDDLE ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT WILL ACCELERATE EVEN THE SLIGHTEST BIT. THIS OCCURS EVERY SINGLE TIME I DRIVE MY CAR. OFTEN WHEN I ATTEMPT TO DRIVE OFF AND I PUT MY FOOT DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS MIDWAY THROUGH AND AFTER THE INITIAL TAKE OFF THE CAR STALLS. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO GET HIT MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS IS NOT SAFE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BECAUSE IT IS A SERIOUS HAZARD. *TR

  11. Steering, Oct 14, 2014

HIS IS A FOCUS ST. UNABLE TO MAKE SMALL STEERING CORRECTIONS AT SPEED. IT'S AS IF THERE IS A "NOTCH" IN THE CENTER OF THE STEERING. A SMALL CORRECTION BECOMES A LARGE ONE CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO VEER ACROSS THE ROAD. *TR

  12. Power train, Oct 11, 2014

THE SHUDDERING CLUTCH/TRANSMISSION ISSUE SEEMS TO COME STANDARD WITH THESE CARS. I BOUGHT A 2013 TITANIUM FOR MY WIFE AND I AND WE BOTH IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE SHUDDERING ON TAKE-OFFS. WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE SHUDDERING IS CAUSED BY OUR METHOD OF DRIVING, AND WERE ACTUALLY TOLD TO ACCELERATE MORE FROM STOPS. WE WERE TOLD THAT THIS CAR IS LIKE HAVING A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND HAS TO BE DRIVEN SIMILAR, HUH, BUT I BOUGHT AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND AFTER DRIVING FOR OVER 30 YEARS I HAVE TO RETRAIN ON HOW TO DRIVE THIS CAR. WE PAID ALOT FOR THIS CAR AND HOPE THAT FORD TAKES CARE THIS PROBLEM AND STOP TELLING THESE DEALERSHIP TO TELL THE CUSTOMER THAT THEY ARE DRIVING THE CAR WRONG. THE CAR OCCASIONALLY JOLTS FORWARD WHEN SHIFTING AT LOW GEAR. WIFE AND I ARE AFRAID OF REAR ENDING SOMEONE. *TR

  13. Power train, Oct 10, 2014

WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP THE CAR WOULD JUMP/SHUDDER AT TAKE OFF. WHEN TURNING LEFT IN ADDITION TO A SHUDDER YOU WOULD HEAR A CLUNKING SOUND. WHEN THE ROADS ARE WET AND YOU TRY TO TURN THE CAR SHUDDERS AND SLIDES ON THE ROAD. GOING DOWN THE ROAD IN RUSH HOUR YOU WOULD BE SHUDDERING ALL THE WAY DOWN THE ROAD. *TR

  14. Power train, Oct 8, 2014

VEHICLE LOST POWER SUDDENLY WITH A WARNING "STOP SAFELY NOW". SINCE THE SPEED WAS LOW AND THERE WASN'T ANYBODY BEHIND ME, I WAS ABLE TO MARGINALLY PULL OVER FROM THE ROAD. TRIED TO POWER CYCLE SEVERAL TIMES AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WENT AWAY. STARTED TO ROLL AND THE MESSAGE POPPED BACK AGAIN AND REGENERATIVE BRAKING STOPPED THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. TRIED 3 TIMES AND EVERY TIME I STARTED TO MOVE THE ERROR MESSAGE WILL KICK IN AND STALL. THE CAR IS AT THE DEALER AND THEY ARE TAKING A LOOK AT IT. MY WIFE WHO WAS DRIVING THE CAR DOESN'T WANT TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE BECAUSE SHE FEARS IF THIS HAPPENS ON A FREEWAY CARPOOL LANE TRAVELING AT 65MPH THERE IS GOING TO BE A PILEUP. *TR

  15. Power train, Oct 7, 2014

VEHICLE HAS A INHERENT PROBLEM WITH THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT SEEMS TO SLIP AND CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO JERK FROM A START. DEALER SAYS IT IS NORMAL AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT A TOTAL OF 3 TIMES.THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND IS UNSAFE.THIS VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RECALLED TO HAVE THIS ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR

  16. Power train, Oct 6, 2014

GEARS STARTED GRINDING BETWEEN THE 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, AN ERROR MESSAGE POPS UP ON SCREEN AND THE CAR STARTS JUMPING. THIS HAPPENED IN A NEW CAR WITH LESS THAN 1,000 MILES. TAKING TO A DEALERSHIP RESULTED IN A CURSORY GLANCE WITH NO PROBLEMS REPORTED. BUT THE INCIDENT HAPPENED TWICE AFTER THAT. DIFFICULT TO REPRODUCE, BUT IS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM, AS OTHER OWNERS OF THE SAME MODEL HAVE REPORTED. A "FIX" BY FORD TRANSFERS THE PROBLEM TO A HIGHER GEAR WHICH INCREASES THE POSSIBILITY OF A CRASH AT HIGH SPEEDS. *TR

  17. Power train, Oct 3, 2014

I PICKED UP MY REPAIRED/REPLACED CAR YESTERDAY AT 2 PM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE CLUTCH, SEAL AND WIRING ASSEMBLY. I WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO "RE-LEARN" MY DRIVING HABITS AND THAT WOULD TAKE ABOUT 2 WEEKS. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND PARKED IT. MY HUSBAND CAME HOME FROM WORK AND HE STARTED THE CAR AT 5:20PM. HE PLACED THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITH THE CAR IN REVERSE. HE HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKES. HE REPEATED THIS 3 TIMES. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HER RESPONSE WAS "I WILL GET THE CAR TOWED BACK TO THE SHOP". SO WE DECIDE TO GO BACK OUT AND TRY IT AGAIN. THIS TIME I HAD MY VIDEO ROLLING. I HAVE IT DOCUMENTED THAT THE CAR WAS IN REVERSE ( THE BACK-UP LIGHTS ARE ON CAMERA) AND THE CAR IS MOVING FORWARD. NOT ONLY DO I NOW HAVE THIS ISSUE MY CAR IS GRINDING AND CLANKING AND MAKING ALL KINDS OF ODD NOISES THAT WEREN'T THERE BEFORE THE REPAIRS WERE DONE. I'M APPALLED THAT FORD IS NOT DOING SOMETHING ABOUT ALL THESE ISSUES. IF A CHILD OR ONE OF MY PETS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN FRONT OF THE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN RAN OVER. THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE IS COMING TO TOW MY CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE DEPT. AND I ONCE AGAIN WILL BE STUCK IN A STINKY RENTAL CAR WHEN I HAVE A CAR WITH ONLY 7000 MILES ON IT AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT BECAUSE IT'S NOT SAFE. *TR

  18. Power train, Oct 2, 2014

I HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AS EVERYONE ELSE WITH THE STUTTERING SHIFTING. I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT WITHIN A DAY OF FIRST PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT IS HOW THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO SHIFT, THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT IT. I WAS TOLD THAT I JUST HAVE TO ACCELERATE THROUGH IT. I HAVE LEARNED NOT TO PUT MYSELF IN A POSITION WHERE THIS MAY THREATEN AN ACCIDENT FOR ME BUT IT IS STILL A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN WHERE I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY THINK ABOUT HOW THE VEHICLE WILL PERFORM PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND TYPICALLY WAIT FOR A LARGER OPENING JUST IN CASE THE CAR WANTS TO ACT UP. *TR

  19. Power train, Oct 1, 2014

THE VEHICLE ON ACCELERATION SHUTTERS, THIS IS A KNOW PROBLEM. I KNOW THAT FORD AND THE NHTSA HAVE KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH THE 2014 FORD FOCUS. I DON'T KNOW WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED, THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, WHEN PULLING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THE CLUTCHES REPLACED ONCE, AND THE VEHICLE STILL SHUTTERS, NOT A MUCH, AND I AM BEING TOLD THAT IT FALLS WITHIN THE LIMITS SET BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THIS ALTERNATIVE, AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED ALTOGETHER. THE VEHICLE IS STILL MAKING NOISE, I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY RUIDOSO FORD THAT THIS NOISE IS NORMAL. I HAVE MY DOUBTS. I AM LOOKING AT THIS ARM OF THE US GOVERNMENT TO MAKE SURE THAT THE VEHICLE I AM DRIVING IS SAFE AND THAT RECALLS ARE DONE EFFICIENTLY AND PROMPTLY. *TR

  20. Power train, Sep 30, 2014

I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THAT THE CAR SEEMED TO BE SLIPPING GEARS/TRANSMISSION. I PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND IT ACTED LIKE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON AND IT WASN'T. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CAR HESITATES, SHUTTERS, SLIPS GEARS AND STALLS. I HAVE HAD THE CAR COMPLETELY STALL OUT IN DRIVE AND IN REVERSE. I'M AFRAID TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC UNLESS IT IS COMPLETELY CLEAR. I CALLED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD TO LEARN MY DRIVING HABITS. WELL I NOW HAVE 7000 MILES ON MY CAR BOUGHT IN FEB 2014 AND IT IS WORSE THAN EVER. TODAY I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP FOR A "COMPUTER UPDATE". THEN WAS TOLD IT'S MORE THAN THAT AND THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO KEEP MY CAR BECAUSE OF CLUTCH. IT'S A NEW CAR AND I SHOULDN'T BE AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND GET HURT. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WHEN THE CAR LUNGES OUT INTO TRAFFIC OR STALLS WHEN I PULL OUT BECAUSE IT HAS A "COMPUTER UPDATE" ISSUE AND I'M KILLED? THE SERVICE TECH TOLD ME THAT HE HIMSELF HAD OWNED ONE AND GOT RID OF IT BECAUSE OF THE ISSUES. I WANT SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME ABOUT THIS ASAP. IT'S NOT NORMAL TO HAVE A NEW CAR THAT WON'T ACCELERATE AND STAY IN GEAR. *TR

  21. Power train, Sep 30, 2014

WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL I STEPPED ON THE GAS SO I COULD KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE BOGGED DOWN AND SLOWED TO ABOUT 15 MPH BEFORE THE TRANS MISSION KICKED IN AND THE CAR STARTED MOVING AGAIN. ALSO SOMETIMES WHEN YOU ARE TAKING OFF FROM A STOP THE CAR WILL LUNG FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC ALSO WHEN DRIVING ABOUT 10 MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL CONSTANTLY SHIFT UP AND DOWN AND JERK LIKE IT IS LOOKING FOR THE CORRECT GEAR. WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THESE PROBLEMS BUT CONSIDERS THEM WITH SPEC FOR THIS TYPE OF AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN YOU BRING THE CAR INTO THE SHOP THE FIRST THING THEY DO IS GIVE YOU A 2 PAGE HANDOUT DESCRIBING HOW THIS AUTOMATIC WORKS BUT MY PROBLEMS ARE MUCH WORSE THAN WHAT THEY DESCRIBE YET THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT IT IS GOING DO. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE SEEN THIS HANDOUT BEFORE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AS I PROBABLY WOULDN'T OWN THE LEMON NOW. *TR

  22. Air bags, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Sep 30, 2014, crash

ON 7/31/14, MY FORD FOCUS HATCHBACK ACCELERATED WHILE PARKING AND CRASHED INTO A HIGH CHAIN-LINK FENCE. SIGNIFICANT FRONT END DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED WHEN I HIT THE FENCE AND SMALL TREE AND I WAS LUCKY THAT NO ONE WAS NEAR THE CAR WHEN IT MALFUNCTIONED.SUBSEQUENTLY, THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED! I HAVE TRIED TO COMMUNICATE WITH FORD MOTOR CO. BY FAX, LETTER AND PHONE OVER THE LAST 2 MONTHS.THE DEALERSHIP WANTS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS CAR. WE ARE RELUCTANT TO SELL AND WANT THIS CAR OFF THE MARKET. WE HAVE NO VOICE. I CONTINUE TO READ ALL COMPLAINTS ON YOUR SITE. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! I CAN'T PUT MY GRANDKIDS IN THIS CAR AND I DON'T WANT ANYONE'S CHILD IN THIS CAR.PLEASE CALL ME. WE NEED TO GET THIS CAR OFF THE MARKET BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR WORSE! *TR

  23. Power train, Service brakes, Engine, Sep 27, 2014

I BOUGHT MY CAR NEW BACK IN FEBURARY 2014. IT DOES ALL KINDS OF THINGS!! IT DOES NOT SHIFT RIGHT. IT JERKS, SLIPS, REVS HIGH. IF YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE IT DOESN'T EVER GEAR DOWN CORRECTLY, EITHER TOO MUCH OR NOT ENOUGH. IT HAS COMPLETELY STALLED AT INTERSECTIONS AND WOULD NOT MOVE. IT WOULD NOT EVEN REV UP. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. IT HAS ACCELERATED INTO TRAFFIC AT A RED LIGHT, TWICE!! AND EACH TIME DID NOT HAVE BRAKES. MY CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR AND IT WAS A NEAR MISS. MY CHILDREN COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED!! I HAVE HAD IT AT MY FORD DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES!!! YES 5 TIMES!!! EACH TIME IT RUNS FINE AND DOES NOT DO ANYTHING WRONG WHILE THEY ARE CHECKING IT OUT. THE MANAGER OF THE SERVICE DEPT STATES IT IS LIKE A SMARTPHONE AND ONCE YOU CUT IT OFF IT RESETS SO THIS IS PROBABLY WHY THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT BY THE TIME THEY GET TO IT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. BUT IT IS MY ONLY CAR. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO. MY DEALERSHIP STATE THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *TR

  24. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Sep 26, 2014

  25. Power train, Sep 26, 2014

VEHICLE SHUTTERS ON TAKE OFF AND RATTLES. THE SHUTTERING AT TIMES CAN BECOME SERIOUS TO THE POINT THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WANTS TO STALL. I WAS TOLD THAT FORD MOTOR IS VERY AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH INVOLVES A FAULTY CLUTCH SYSTEM BUT YET WHEN CHECKED BY A COMPUTER, IF THE READING STATES CERTAIN NUMBERS, THEY DON'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! THIS IS ABSURD! THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE YET FORD DOES NOT WANT TO FIX THE VEHICLE. WHEN I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE AT TIMES, THE VIBRATIONS ARE SO SEVERE THAT I HAVE TO LET UP OFF THE ACCELERATOR IN ORDER FOR IT TO STOP. THAT'S WHEN I'M AFRAID THAT I'LL GET HIT. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE ON THIS PROBLEM. THERE HAVE BEEN 36 LAWSUITS FILED JUST IN ONE COUNTY IN PENNSYLVANIA ALONE FOR THIS PROBLEM NHTSA NEEDS TO STEP IN AND MANDATE FORD FOR A RECALL. *TR
