Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Focus vehicles previously repaired incorrectly under recall number 18V735. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, causing the engine to stall unexpectedly while driving.

An engine that stalls while driving increases the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module (PCM) software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 29, 2026. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S40. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov on July 6,2026.

  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0L GDI or 2.0L GTDI engine. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vaccuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began August 19, 2019. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

7/15 WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN OFF OF HIGHWAY CLINE MY FORD FOCUS SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS DOWNSHIFTING AS I HAD MY BRAKES APPLIED WITH SMOOTH PRESSURE THROUGHOUT BUT AS THE CAR DOWNSHIFTED AGAIN IT LAUNCHED ME INTO A 4 WAY INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A MAJOR ACCIDENT.

  2. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

7/15 DRIVING NORTH BOUND ON CLINE (HIGHWAY) AND WHILE MY FORD FOCUS SLIPPING OUT OF DRIVE IN TO NEUTRAL. COULDN'T GET MY CAR TO RESPOND AT ALL OR GET BACK IN DRIVE SO I PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER

  4. Other or unspecified, Jul 16, 2019

I PURCHASED THE 2014 FORD FOCUS NEW IN AUGUST 2013. ISSUES BEGAN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY UPON TAKING OWNERSHIP OF VEHICLE. I RECALL AT 6,600 MILES HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION AND SHUDDERING. FORD TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL IT WOULD EVENTUALLY ADJUST. CAR SHUDDERS AROUND 17 MPH AND ACCERLERATING ONTO ON RAMPS, ETC. THIS CAR IS UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE. I REFRAIN FROM TAKING IT ON ROAD TRIPS EVEN WITHIN WASHINGTON STATE, AVOIDING ISSUES THAT COULD ARISE AT ANYTIME. AT NO TIME DURING THE PURCHASE OF THIS VEHICLE DID THE SALESPERSON EXPLAIN WHAT THE DP6 POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION FEATURE WAS . I AM BEYOND FRUSTRATED WITH FORD'S UNWILLINGNESS TO RECOGNIZE THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS CONCERN AND EXPENSIVE FIX. THIS CAR IS AVERAGING A NEW CLUTCH ASSEMPLY AT 5,000-7,000 MILES. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE AT WHICH POINT THESE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENTS COST A MINIMUM OF $1800. I CAN'T AFFORD TO CONTINUE TO HAVE TO PAY THESE REPAIR COSTS. TO DATE, THIS CAR HAS HAD 7 CLUTCH ASSEMBLY & SEAL REPLACEMENTS AND CAR CURRENTLY HAS $55,000. RIDICULOUS. I SPENT OVER $30,000 ON THIS VEHICLE. SEE ATTACHMENT BELOW FOR LIST OF REPAIRS

  5. Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 16, 2019

2014 FORD FOCUS TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WENT OUT 3 TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWN THE CAR. STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT FOOT. ON BREAK CAR IN DRIVE CAR GOES FLYING BACKWARDS . CAR LOSE OF POWER WILL NOT GO IN REVERSE.SETTING WAITING TO PULL OUT IN MAIN ROAD FOOT ON BREAK CAR IN DRIVE CAR SHOT ME OUT IN FRONT OF A PEPSI TRUCK CAR CONTROL IT'S SELF. CAR IS TRYING TO KILL ME DRIVING THE CAR IN THE STREETS IS WHEN THIS HAPPENED OR WAITING TO PULL OUT ON THE STREETS IN GOING FROM 2017 TO 2019

  6. Power train, Other or unspecified, Jul 16, 2019

SINCE OWNING THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW, THERE HAVE BEEN CONSISTENT TRANSMISSION ISSUES. WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION, REGARDLESS OF SPEED, IT FEELS LIKE IT SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL GEAR EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN AUTOMATIC. WE HAVE TO PULL OVER AS QUICK AS WE CAN TO AVOID GETTING HIT BY OTHER MOVING VEHICLES. OUR VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THIS ISSUE TO WHERE THEY HAVE REPLACED PARTS RELATED TO SOME CLUTCH SYSTEM. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT PROVIDE REPAIR ORDER DOCUMENTS FOR THESE REPAIRS. THE MOST CURRENT ISSUE WAS THIS PAST SATURDAY WHEN THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, HAD TO PULL OVER AND SIT FOR A WHILE. START THE VEHICLE BACK UP AND IT WORKS NORMAL AGAIN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. WE ARE THE ORIGINAL OWNERS AND STILL OWE $ ON IT. WOULD LIKE FORD TO JUST BUY BACK THE CAR.

  7. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A FORD FOCUS AND IT IS A COMPLETE MESS. THE TRANSMISSION IS AWFUL. THE WHOLE CAR EITHER CHUGS IN LOW GEAR OR IS ON A MASSIVE DELAY FROM THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE BEEN IN SITUATIONS WHEN TRYING TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING LOT AND THE DELAY IS SO BAD THAT TRAFFIC HAS ALMOST CAUGHT UP AND T-BONED MY CAR. THE CHUGGING IS JUST AS BAD. IT JERKS TERRIBLY. IT IS INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTING. I HAVE STUCK BY FORD FOR YEARS AND I FEEL COMPLETELY HUNG OUT TO DRY WITH THIS VEHICLE. I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER FORD.

  8. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

AFTER PURCHASING THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM A FORD DEALER IN DAYTON, OH IN DECEMBER 2013, I HAVE EXPERIENCED A VIOLENT SHUDDER OF THE CAR WHEN INITIALLY ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION. I WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER 1,500 AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR AND THAT NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. I CURRENTLY HAVE 94,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND HAVE RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP EVERY 10-15K TO INQUIRE OF A FIX FOR THE CAR. AROUND 60,000 MILES IN THEY FINALLY SAID THAT THEY HAD A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE FIX. THEY PERFORMED THIS UPDATE AND THE ISSUE WENT AWAY FOR A FEW WEEKS BUT RETURNED SHORTLY AFTER.

  9. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Jul 16, 2019

MY 2014 FORD FOCUS BEGAN SHUDDERING ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER I BOUGHT IT, WHICH WAS MAY 2014. I TOOK IT TO MY FORD DEALER TO EXPLAIN. I WAS TOLD IT WASN'T A PROBLEM AND I SHOULD CONTINUE DRIVING IT. THE SHUDDERING CONTINUED. IT NORMALLY HAPPENS WHEN PULLING OUT FROM A STOPPED OR NEAR STOPPED POSITION, ON FLAT AND INCLINED SURFACES. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALER ONCE AGAIN. THEY SAID THEY ADJUSTED A FEW THINGS AND I WOULD BE FINE. TOOK IT BACK A 3RD TIME AND THEY SAID THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW CLUTCH. SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO HAVE THAT DONE. IT WORKED FINE FOR A FEW MONTHS, BUT I WAS BACK AT THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES WITH THE SHUDDERING AND TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH ISSUE. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE IN MY 2014 FORD FOCUS. I WENT BACK AGAIN TO COMPLAIN OF SAME ISSUE, I WAS TOLD MY WARRANTY RAN OUT AND THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE CLUTCH IF I PAID FOR IT!!! I STILL DRIVE IT DAILY, WITH THE SHUDDERING. WORRIED AT EVERY STOP, I HOPE THE CAR DOESN'T STALL, SPEED UP OR CAUSE AN ACCIDENT!!! IT OCCURS ON CITY STREETS, RAMPS ONTO HIGHWAYS, AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS AND YIELDS. CAR IS USUALLY GOING FROM STOPPED OR SLOW SPEED GOING STRAIGHT OR TURNING. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

  10. Engine, Jul 16, 2019

AS OF 07/16/19 FORD HAS PUT 7 CLUTCHES IN THIS VEHICLE. WE ARE SCHEDULED FOR AN OTHER APP. ON 07/18/19. THE PROBLEM IS BACK, I BELIEVE THIS THIS IS THE THIRD TRIP BACK SINCE THE LAST CLUTCH WAS PUT IN. FORD KEEPS SAYING IT'S NOT BACK ENOUGH TO REPLACE, BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE PAPER WORK IT SAYS THEY READJUSTED THE CLUTCH, EACH TIME. I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS BECAUSE IF YOU LOOK AT THE MILEAGE IN AND OUT OF THE SHOP IT'S THE SAME. HOW CAN THEY SAY THE PROBLEM NOT THERE. IF THEY DON'T DRIVE IT? IT'S TO THE POINT NOW THAT YOU DON'T DARE TRY TO PASS OR GO BY ANOTHER CAR BECAUSE IT HESITATES SO BAD AND THE TEC METER WILL JUMP TO 5/5 1/2 BEFORE IT DROPS DOWN AND SHIFTS GEARS. IT'S LIKE DRIVING A CAR WITH A STANDARD TRANSMISSION AND THE CLUTCH ISN'T OUT FAR ENOUGH.

  11. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

IT SHUTTERS WHEN YOU STOP AND IT HAS A DELAY WHEN YOU TRY TO RETURN TO DRIVING. IT ROLLS WHEN YOU ARE SETTING ON HILL.

  12. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

THE TRANSMISSION IS BEING DEFECTIVE SINCE I INITIALLY PURCHASE THE CAR IN AUGUST 2014, I DID NOT NOTICED IT RIGHT AWAY, IT WAS UNTIL I WAS DRIVING WITH A PASSENGER THAT HE MENTION THE SHAKE THAT THE CAR HAVE WHEN I WAS IN A STOP AND BEGIN TO ACCELERATE IT START SHAKING LIKE WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING A MANUAL AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY CHANGE THE SHIFT. IT KEEP DOING IT SO I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANICS AND THEY TOLD ME THEY KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE ALL THE TRANSMISSIONS WERE DUAL EVEN IF THEY CHANGE IT I WILL STILL EXPERIENCE THE SAME. SO AT THAT MOMENT THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD ONLY RESET THE COMPUTER TO SEE IF ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM, IT DIDN'T SO I TRY TO TAKE IT AGAIN BUT THEY WILL TELL ME THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PERSONAL TO DO TRANSMISSION WORK OR THINGS OF THAT NATURE.

  13. Other or unspecified, Jul 16, 2019

I BOUGHT THE CAR WITH 23 MILES ON IT IN 2014. I ASKED ABOUT THE PRECIOUS FOCUS ISSUES OF ENGINE ISSUES, TRANSMISSION ISSUES, AND THE AIR BAG DEFECT. I WAS TOLD "ALL OF THOSE ISSUES HAVE BEEN FIXED IN THE 2014 MODEL." SHORTLY AFTER MY PURCHASE THE CLUTCH AND TM MODULE WENT OUT. WHEN I QUESTIONED WHY IT NEEDED THIS ALREADY I WAS TOLD "IT IS JUST A SLIGHT ISSUE, BUT THAT 1 REPLACEMENT IS ALL IT WILL NEED." SINCE THIS TIME THE CAR HAS REQUIRED CLUTCH REPLACEMENT 7 TIME AND MODULE REPLACEMENT 3 TIMES. I NOW NEED TO TAKE IT IN FOR THE 8TH CLUTCH, BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD I WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYMENT OF THIS MANUFACTURER DEFECT. I WAS LIED TO BY THE DEALERSHIP, FORD CORPORATE INFORMED THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES WITH MY PURCHASE, AND WHEN I ASK ABOUT PERMANENT FIXES/BUYBACK I AM TOLD THAT THERE'S NOTHING ABNORMAL WITH MY CAR.

  14. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

THE CAR SPUTTERS, BUCKS AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE. THIS BEGAN TO HAPPEN ROUGHLY 6 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR IN FALL OF 2013. IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN TO THIS DAY. IT IS INTERMITTENT BUT EXTREMELY STRESSFUL WHEN DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC OR ON THE FREEWAY. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN ACCELERATING EITHER OUT OF A STOP OR WHILE TRY TO INCREASE SPEED. FORD HAS ATTEMPTED SEVERAL "FIXES" BUT THE PROBLEM IS NOT RESOLVED.

  15. Engine, Jul 16, 2019

MY CAR SHUTTERS WHEN I ACCELERATE. THE PROBLEM HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE LONGEVITY/SAFETY OF MY VEHICLE.

  16. Vehicle speed control, Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 16, 2019

THE FORD FOCUS STUTTERS WHEN TAKING OFF. EVERYTIME I GO TO GET ON HIGHWAY IT WONT ACCELERATE AND SHAKES. IT'S SCARY I ALWAYS FEEL LIKE IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND FORD SERVICE SHOPS REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN UNDER WARRANTY.

  17. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

THE TRANSMISSION HAS OBVIOUS ISSUES. I HAVE TO GUN IT FROM A STOP SO IT DOESN'T CHUG EVERY SINGLE TIME I STOP. ONE TIME I REALLY FEARED FOR MY LIFE WAS WHEN I WAS ON A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE AND SOMEONE SLAMMED THEIR BRAKES ON IN FRONT OF ME. I, IN TURN, SLAMMED MY BRAKES ON TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION. MY CAR WOULD NOT GO BACK INTO GEAR IMMEDIATELY AND TAKE OFF. I WAS STALLED AND HELPLESS. I FELT LIKE A SITTING DUCK READY TO BE RAN OVER. I FEAR FOR ANYTIME I HAVE TO SLAM MY BRAKES ON TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT THAT I WILL AGAIN BE SITTING WAITING TO BE HIT. I BOUGHT MY CAR USED. I TOOK IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL WORK THAT I ASSUMED WOULD RESOLVE THE PROBLEM ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT NO IT DIDN'T COVER MY ISSUE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD, AND THAT THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD GOTTEN THE TRAMSMISSION FIXED WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT THAT THE WARRANTY TIME FOR THE FIX WAS NOW UP AND IT WOULD COST $1200 TO FIX. THEY TOLD ME EVEN IF I PAID TO HAVE IT FIXED, IT WOULD INEVITABLY HAPPEN AGAIN AS THEY SEE THIS PROBLEM EVERYDAY. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET A NEW CAR. IN FACT, IT IS NOW THE ONLY CAR IN OUR HOUSEHOLD AS MY HUSBAND IS DISABLED. I FEEL I'VE BEEN BETRAYED AND LEFT OUT TO DRY. I'M THOROUGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD. I DO NOT MAKE A LOT OF MONEY AS A SCHOOL SECRETARY. I REGRET PUTTING MY TRUST IN A COMPANY THAT HAD A GREAT REPUTATION BEFORE THIS ISSUE. I WISH I COULD GET MY MONEY BACK AND RETHINK MY PURCHASE.

  18. Power train, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 16, 2019

I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INCIDENTS WITH MY 2014 FORD FOCUS RELATED TO THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION. BESIDES ROUGH SHIFTING AND LOTS OF SHUDDERING OVER THE YEARS, MY CAR HAS COMPLETELY STALLED ON ME WHILE IN MOTION, DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 2 DIFFERENT TIMES. I LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WHILE GOING MORE THAN 65 MILES PER HOUR, AND I HAD TO COAST THROUGH HIGH-SPEED TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER (BOTH TIMES). THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED WAS JULY 29TH, 2017 IN FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA. THE 2ND TIME WAS JUNE 6TH, 2019 ON THE SAWGRASS EXPRESSWAY IN BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA. BOTH TIMES WERE VERY SCARY AND PUT MYSELF AND OTHERS AT RISK FOR A SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS ACCIDENT. EARLY ON, THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THE ROUGH TRANSMISSION IS NORMAL AND WOULD GET BETTER IF I IMPROVED MY DRIVING HABITS. MORE RECENTLY I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD FAIL AGAIN BUT THAT THE WARRANTY HAS BEEN EXTENDED.

  19. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

THE TRANSMISSION IS KNOWN TO BE FAULTY. MINE STUDDERS WHEN GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP LIKE SOMEONE WHO CAN'T DRIVE A MANUAL. MY 01 FOCUS IS A MANUAL. IT HAS SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR MULTIPLE TIMES ON ME AND FRIENDS DRIVING IT IN INTERSECTIONS, AND HIGHWAYS. THE CAR IS 5 YEARS OLD. SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE PROBLEMS. I FEAR IT WILL WND UP CAUSING HARM TO MYSELF OR OTHERS. IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND FIXED

  20. Vehicle speed control, Jul 16, 2019

MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP FOR TRANSMISSION REPAIR. NATIONAL NEWS REPORTS THAT THESE VEHICLE MODELS, ALONG WITH FIESTA'S HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THAT CAUSE SHUTTERING AND/OR ACCELERATION ISSUES. MY VEHICLE HAD BOTH THESE ISSUES, FORTUNATELY, I WAS NOT KILLED BEFORE I COULD GET IT TO THE SHOP. MY CAR WOULD ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING. I WONDER WHY THERE IS NOT A SAFETY RECALL DUE TO THIS ISSUE? I WILL NOW HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIRS.

  21. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

ON MY WAY TO WORK I WAS TAKING A LEFT TURN ONTO THE HIGHWAY. IN DOING SO, THE CAR CUT POWER CAUSING THE CARS BEHIND ME TO ALMOST HIT THE BACK OF THE CAR AT ABOUT 40 MILES AND HOUR. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE VEHICLE, I AM WAITING FOR THE DAY SOMEONE ISN'T PAYING ATTENTION WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FAILS TO PERFORM IN A USUAL MANOR AND I, OR SOMEONE ELSE IN THE CAR, IS SERIOUSLY INJURED.

  22. Power train, Jul 16, 2019

INCIDENT #1 - WHILE TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE, I ATTEMPTED TO CHANGE LANES TO PREPARE FOR AN UPCOMING EXIT. NOTICING FASTER MOVING TRAFFIC APPROACHING FROM BEHIND (I HAD JUST ENTERED THE FREEWAY), I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO SPEED UP DURING THE LANE CHANGE. MY VEHICLE "SHIFTED" INTO NEUTRAL, CAUSING ME TO LOSE ACCELERATION WHEN I ABSOLUTELY NEEDED IT TO MATCH THE SPEED OF OVERTAKING TRAFFIC. I QUICKLY MOVED BACK TO MY ORIGINAL LANE TO AVOID BEING STRUCK FROM BEHIND. INCIDENT #2 - WHILE STOPPED AT A YIELD, WAITING TO ENTER A TRAFFIC CIRCLE, I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE INTO THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, BUT JUST AS MY CAR BEGAN TO MOVE FORWARD, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO "NEUTRAL", RPMS WENT UP TO ABOUT 4,000. WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS TO APPLY BRAKE AND STOP MY ENTRANCE TO THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, THE TRANSMISSION CAUGHT (CLUTCH ENGAGED) AND PROPELLED ME INTO THE TRAFFIC CIRCLE, WHICH BY THIS TIME HAD APPROACHING TRAFFIC. NARROWLY AVOIDED A SERIOUS COLLISION BY STEERING TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD.

LOSES POWER DURING ACCELERATION FROM DEAD STOP OR ONTO FREEWAY, TRANSMISSION BUCKS AND DOES NOT ENGAGE FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND GEAR IN ALLEGED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT HAS NO PLANS FOR A LONG TERM FIX.

I BOUGHT THE CAR USED WITH AROUND 28K MILES. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED TWICE ALREADY, AND IT CONTINUES TO ACT UP INTERMITTENTLY. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE SHUDDERING AND JERKING, ESPECIALLY IN THE FIRST TWO GEARS, UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE (THROTTLE INPUT GIVES DIFFERENT RESULTS IN DIFFERENT CONDITIONS) FAILURE TO ACCELERATE IN A MANY CIRCUMSTANCES: OFTEN REVERSE TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO ENGAGE, AND IF YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY, SUCH AS TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT OR HAZARD, TOO HEAVY OF AN INPUT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO REV VERY HIGH BUT THE CAR DOESN'T GO ANYWHERE. THE UNIT ALSO HAS DELAYED OR "STICKY" DOWNSHIFTS, ESPECIALLY IN AN EMERGENCY STOPPING SITUATION. AND OVER THE FIRST 3 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP, FUEL ECONOMY SEEMS TO BE DECREASING. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN EXCLUSIVELY SERVICED BY FORD DEALERS UNDER MY OWNERSHIP. I UNDERSTAND WHAT THE TRANSMISSION IS, HOW IT FUNCTIONS, AND I DRIVE ACCORDINGLY, INCLUDING TRYING TO REV MATCH SHIFTS. IT CONTINUES TO ACT UP MILDLY EVERY DAY, AND SEVERELY ON OCCASION. IT IS BOTH THE NEWEST AND LEAST TRUSTWORTHY VEHICLE I'VE EVER OWNED, AND I EXPECT AN EXPENSIVE AND CATASTROPHIC FAILURE BEFORE I'VE PAID IT OFF. IN ADDITION, THE HORN HAS FAILED SEVERAL TIMES AND WILL NOW NEED TO BE REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED, JERKED, AND FAILED TO SHIFT IN AND OUT OF GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOW TO CHANGE GEARS AT ANY GIVEN POINT WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND FAILED TO SHIFT INTO REVERSE SEVERAL TIMES INTERMITTENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP FLASHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DAVID STANLEY FORD OF MIDWEST CITY (6601 SE 29TH ST, MIDWEST CITY, OK 73110, (405) 733-1611) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED SEVERAL TIMES, BUT FAILED TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT REMEDY. THE DEALER LATER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V523000 (POWER TRAIN). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
