Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

I PURCHASED A 2014 FORD FOCUS USED WITH 86K MILES, UPON TAKING DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE WE NOTICED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP THE CAR JERKS AND BUCKS. I TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR RECALLS TO BE FIXED, IN WHICH I BELIEVE THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE FELL UNDER THE TCM MODULE RECALL. MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING BACK TO CAMPUS AND THE CAR WAS BUCKING AND JUMPING AND THEN FINALLY CUTOFF WHILE DRIVING!!!

FEBRUARY 12 OUR WAY TO WORK ABOUT 1/4 MILE AWAY. AT THE STOP LIGHT WAITING FOR THE OTHER CAR TO TURN. I LET GO OF THE BREAK THEN CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHILE IN DRIVING. LIGHTS ARE ON. POWER WINDOWS. FUEL TANK DEFORMATION. I GOT IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. SAYING I HAVE TO PAY $800 SOMETHING DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND THE OTHER PROBLEM HE IS SAYING. UNTIL NOW I STILL DON'T HAVE A CAR. THEY DID NOT GIVE ME A RENTAL CAR OR HAVE THE CAR TOWED. THIS DEFECTS PUTS MY LIFE AND THE OTHER PERSON IN DANGER AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE COMPANY DEFECTS? I CALLED 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS ABOUT IT. DOING MY OWN RESEARCH WHAT IS REALLY GOING ON. TAKE NOTE: THESE PEOPLE HAVE NOT SEEN OR TOUCHED MY CAR. I JUST SIMPLY STATED WHAT HAPPENED. AND I TOLD THEM ABOUT THE RECALL.

(1) I SCHEDULED SERVICE AT DARCARS FORD LANHAM MD FOR 9/11/18 FOR POOR DRIVING & EXTREMELY POOR GAS MILEAGE (WAS FILLING UP ABOUT 2X/WEEK INSTEAD OF 1X/2 WEEK). CAR HAD 53,166 MILES, & NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. DARCARS DID A TUNE-UP WHICH DID NOTHING TO IMPROVE THE GAS MILEAGE. (2) I SCHEDULED SERVICE FOR 9/18/18. DARCARS FOUND PROBLEM: SEIZED FUEL CANISTER THAT DAMAGED THE FUEL PUMP AND CAUSED FUEL TANK TO IMPLODE. ALL PARTS WERE REPLACED. (3) AFTER REPAIRS, GAS MILEAGE WAS BETTER BUT NOT BACK TO NORMAL. USED TO GET > 30 ML/GAL, & WHEN I FILLED UP, DISPLAY ALWAYS SAID >400 ML TO EMPTY. NOW I GET 27-28 ML/GAL, AND AFTER FILL-UP DISPLAY SAYS ~330 ML TO EMPTY. (4) I RECEIVED NHTSA RECALL 18V-735 IN 12/18. IT INDICATED THERE WAS NO FIX YET. (5) SCHEDULED AN OIL CHANGE FOR 1/30/19 AND ASKED DARCARS FOR STATUS OF RECALL. DARCARS SAID THERE WAS A FIX: PARTS REPLACEMENT & REPROGRAMMING. DARCARS DETERMINED THAT PARTS PREVIOUSLY REPLACED WERE OK, SO ONLY REPROGRAMMING WAS DONE. (6) REAL PROBLEMS BEGAN 3/1/19. CAR SUDDENLY DROVE EXTREMELY POORLY WHILE ON HIGHWAY. IT WOULD HESITATE, & WHEN I GAVE IT A LITTLE MORE GAS, IT LURCHED & DROVE ERRATICALLY. IT THEN STALLED OUT COMPLETELY. I TRIED TO RESTART CAR A FEW TIMES & AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STARTED. CAR HAD ~3/4 TANK OF GAS AND NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. I SCHEDULED SERVICE ON 3/5/19. DARCARS ADDED OR REPLACED A TRANSMISSION MODULE. (7) NO CHANGE IN GAS MILEAGE, & LATEST SERIOUS PROBLEM HAPPENED 3/21/19. WHILE ON HIGHWAY, CAR STALLED OUT COMPLETELY WITH NO WARNING. GAS TANK WAS NEAR FULL, & NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON. TRIED TO RESTART CAR SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT WOULDN'T START. CALLED FOR A TOW. TRIED TO RESTART CAR COUPLE MORE TIMES WHILE ON PHONE WITH AAA BUT NO LUCK. ~10 MINUTES OR SO LATER, WHILE WAITING FOR TOW TRUCK, TRIED TO START CAR AGAIN & IT STARTED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DARCARS FORD LANHAM (LOCATED AT 9020 LANHAM SEVERN RD, LANHAM, MD 20706, (301) 459-1100) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED, BUT A FAILURE COULD NOT BE FOUND. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL CANISTER SEIZED, WHICH DAMAGED THE FUEL PUMP AND CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO IMPLODE. BOTH COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,166.

MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN SUDDENLY THE BACKSEAT DRIVER SIDE DOOR OPENED. THERE WAS A PASSENGER THAT WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE DOOR SHUT AFTER THE EVENT BUT LUCKILY NOBODY WAS HURT. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL WITH THAT ISSUE. I ALSO HAVE PREMIUM CARE WARRANTY ON THE VEHICLE BUT I WAS TOLD THAT IT DOES NOT COVER A BROKEN DOOR LATCH. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUES AND FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE ON FIXING IT
Power train, Mar 19, 2019
MY 2014 FORD FOCUS SHUDDERS AND JERKS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO RESUME DRIVING AFTER A SLOW DOWN, AND I AM SCARED THAT I WILL GET HIT BECAUSE MY CAR CANNOT ACCELERATE FAST ENOUGH. THIS HAPPENED RECENTLY IN MARCH OF THIS YEAR ON THE HIGHWAY, AND I WAS FORTUNATE TO ESCAPE BEING HIT AT THE LAST MINUTE. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS IN HOUSTON FOR THEM TO CHECK IF THE CAR IS PART OF THE TRANSMISSION RECALL, BUT THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST, I DO NOT THINK THIS IS FAIR SINCE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS CAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BECOME STUCK IN BETWEEN GEARS, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HARRIS FORD LINCOLN (20006 64TH AVE W, LYNWOOD, WA 98036) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CLUTCH HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.

MULTIPLY SAFETY RECALLS AND I TOOK TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, BUT DEALERSHIPS REFUSED TO DO OR TO FIX MY CAR. NOW MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AGAIN. CODE READER HAS 2 CODES 1450 AND 144A. NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED, BUT DEALERSHIP FILED A FALSE REPORT STATING THE RECALLS WERE ALREADY DONE. IT IS NOT THE CASE. THE ONLY RECALL THAT WAS DONE WAS FOR THE DOOR LATCHES. THE PURSE VALVE AND FUEL SENSORS STILL NEED TO BE FIXED.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FOX FORD LINCOLN (2501 N ELSTON AVE, CHICAGO, IL 60647, (773) 687-7800) WHERE THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES AND THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL MODULE WAS REPAIRED ONCE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH REPAIRED A FOURTH TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,286.

MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER 18S32 FOR A POTENTIAL STUCK EVAP PURGE VALVE CAUSING EXCESSIVE VACUUM IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. AS MY VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A FAILED PART AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL SERVICE, ONLY A PCM UPDATE WAS PERFORMED. LESS THAN 2 MONTHS AFTER THE RECALL SERVICE, THE PURGE VALVE FAILED AND CAUSED RANDOM STALLS OF THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. FORD CLAIMS THE RECALL WAS COMPLETED AND I, THE CONSUMER, AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIRS, EVEN WITH THE ORIGINAL PART, SUBJECT TO THE RECALL 18S32, WAS THE FAULT FOR THE ISSUE. I BELIEVE THAT THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE RE-OPENED ON ALL THE VEHICLES THAT DID NOT HAVE THE PURGE VALVE REPLACED AND THE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO PREVENT FUTURE SAFETY ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE.
Steering, Mar 16, 2019
TWO DIFFERENT INCIDENTS: (3/13/18) WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON "STEERING ASSIST FAULT - SERVICE REQUIRED". AFTER THAT, PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. AFTER RESTARTING, THE STEERING WORKED OKAY AGAIN. HAD THIS LATER CHECKED BY ASTORIA FORD, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG (EVEN AFTER RUNNING THE CODES). THEN ON 3/15/19, GOT IN THE VEHICLE AND STARTED IT AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS TIME EVEN AFTER STOPPING AND RE-STARTING THE ENGINE (WAITING @ 5-10 MINUTES) THE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THERE WAS NO STEERING. CURRENTLY, THE VEHICLE IS AT A ASTORIA AAMCO GETTING CHECKED THOROUGHLY BY A VERY COMPETENT, HIGHLY EXPERIENCED MECHANIC TO GET THIS RESOLVED FOR OUR SAFETY.

CAR SHUDDERS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THROUGH THE 1ST GEAR. HAD SOFTWARE RESET AND CLUTCH REPLACED, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE, AND AS I UNDERSTAND, I CAN HAVE THE SOFTWARE RESET AND CLUTCH REPLACED 2 MORE TIMES, AND THEN POSSIBLY GET SOME MONETARY ABATEMENT IF IT'S STILL NOT FIXED.
Other or unspecified, Mar 15, 2019
AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN FIRST GEAR BECAUSE IT'S A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND MOVING FORWARD. MY CAR ISNOT LOCKING AND I GO SOMETIMES UPWARDS OF 100 FEET OR MORE BEFORE IT SHOWS THAT THE CAR IS LOCKED. BUT I AM NOT HEARING THE CAR LOCK LIKE IT SHOULD. IT DOES THE SAME THING IN REVERSE.

MY FORD FOCUS DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH BAILED. THE DOOR LATCH WAS RECALLED AND I HAD ALL THE DOORS FIXED FROM THE RECALL. THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE AND LATCH PROPERLY. I HAD TO HOLD THE DOOR SHUT TO GET BACK HOME. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER LATER THAT DAY AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE DIDN'T HAVE THE PART BUT HE WAS TRYING TO GET PERMISSION TO SEPARATE THE 4 PACK OF LATCHES AS PART OF THE RECALL. IF MY CAR WAS FIXED AS PART OF THE RECALL, WHY DID THE LATCH FAIL? THEY WERE ABLE TO SEPARATE THE FOUR PACK OF LATCHES AND FIX MY CAR, BUT I'M CONCERNED THIS COULD HAPPEN TO OTHERS, ESPECIALLY SINCE THERE IS A RECALL ON SOME PART OF THE LATCHES.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE IN TRAFFIC, MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS EXPERIENCED EXTREME SHUTTERING, FOLLOWED BY ENGINE SHUT OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES AT MULTIPLE SPEEDS, ONCE DECELERATING AT A RED LIGHT, ONCE ACCELERATING WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC AND ONCE WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH ON A HIGHWAY. LUCKILY, SHE HAS NOT YET BEEN INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT AS A RESULT. AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, THE CAR WAS SERVICED AT A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN 12/2018. THE SAME PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED 2 ADDITIONAL TIMES SINCE THEN. THIS PARTICULAR VIN IS NOT UNDER A RECALL ALTHOUGH WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME SAFETY ISSUES OTHER FORD FOCUS 2014 RECALLED VEHICLES HAVE REPORTED.

EVERY TIME MY FORD FOCUS SHIFTS FROM 1ST-2ND OR 2ND-3RD THE ENTIRE CAR NOT ONLY SHUTTERS BUT ITS EXTREMELY SLUGGISH AND SEEMS LIKE IT'S GOING TO STALL OUT. (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHT LIT ON MY DASH AND THE CAR BARELY HAS 56,000 MILES ON IT. WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR IT HAD 35,000 MILES AND THE PROBLEM EXISTED THEN AND HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE. YESTERDAY I WAS AT A YIELD SIGN TO ENTER THE ROUND ABOUT NEAR MY HOUSE AND WHEN I PRESSED THE GASS MY CAR SHUTTERED HORRIBLY AND ONLY WENT FORWARD A FEW FEET, I WAS NEARLY STRUCK BY A TRUCK THAT HAD TO SUDDENLY SWERVE TO KEEP FROM HITTING US. I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS. WHEN I PRESSED IT AGAIN, THIS TIME WITH MORE FORCE, IT SHUTTERED AND JERKED SO HARD IT FORCEFULLY THREW MY HEAD BACK AGAINST THE SEAT! MY 5YR OLD DAUGHTER THAT WAS IN THE BACK SEAT WAS CRYING UNCONTROLLABLY, SCARED BECAUSE WE WERE ALMOST HIT BY A TRUCK! THE SEATBELTS IN THE BACKSEAT OF MY CAR, HAVE CAME UNBUCKLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE MY 2YR OLD AND 5YR OLD CHILDREN WERE IN THEIR CARSEATS. WHEN I ATTEMPT TO REBUCKLE THEM IT TAKES ABOUT 15- 20 MINUTES OF MY CONSISTENTLY TRYING TO GET THE BUCKLE TO LATCH ONTO THE SEATBELTS!

WHILE IN MOTION, ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHICH WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILING CATALYTIC CONVERTER - POSSIBLY DUE TO CONTAMINATION. FORD FOCUS HAD RECEIVED AN EVAP PURGE VALVE RELATED RECALL JUST A FEW DAYS EARLIER WHICH STILL NEEDED TO BE COMPLETED. THE RECALL REPLACED COMPONENTS AS PER GUIDANCE BUT DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WHICH LIKELY FAILED AS A RESULT OF A FAILURE LINKED TO THE PRIOR RECALL (EVAP PURGE VALVE). MANY SIMILAR CASES ARE TO BE FOUND IN FORUMS ONLINE.
