Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.
An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.
A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019
Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.
The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.
Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

THE HORN QUIT SOUNDING UPON ACTIVATION BY THE HORN RELAY SWITCH ON THE STEERING WHEEL. IT DOES NOT SOUND WHEN PRESSING THE REMOTE TWICE TO CONFIRM IT'S LOCKED UP. IT DOES NOT SOUND WHEN THE ALARM IS ACTIVATED. THE FUSE IS OK. THE HORN RELAY DOES NOT CLICK WHEN HORN RELAY SWITCH ON STEERING WHEEL IS DEPRESSED. THE WIRES ARE ALL INTACT AND CONNECTED. I TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALER. THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $200-300 AND NEED THE CAR FOR 2 DAYS. ACCORDING TO ALL THE COMPLAINTS AND CONCERNS ABOUT THIS ISSUE ON VARIOUS WEBSITES, THOUSANDS OF OWNERS OF FORD FOCUS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP.

WHEN ACCELERATING TO AROUND 40 MPH, ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND LOST POWER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE NOW LIGHT ALSO LIT UP. TOOK THE CAR TO LOCAL DEALER AND THEY FIGURED CARS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY (ETB) WAS DEFECTIVE AND WOULD COST $370+ TO REPAIR. AFTER INVESTIGATING THOROUGHLY, I DISCOVERED THIS WAS A DEFECT IN MORE THAN 1.6 MILLON FORD VEHICLES AND TOLD THE DEALER, BUT THE DEALER ALONG WITH FORD HQ ADVISED THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST IN THE PAYMENT OF THE PART OR REPAIR WHAT-SO-EVER.

MY 2014 FORD FOCUS ENGINE DIES WHEN IT RAINS. IT STARTED TO RUN ROUGH WHEN IT RAINED ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND THEN THE ENGINE DIED GOING 55 MPH WHEN IT WAS RAINING. HAD ENGINE WIRE REPLACED AND IT WAS FINE FOR A WEEK OR SO WHILE IT WAS DRY. 1ST TIME IT RAINED IT DIED AGAIN GOING 50MPH. TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND HAD CYLINDER AND COMPUTER BOX REPLACED (CRAZY ONLY 4 YEARS OLD). RAN FINE AGAIN UNTIL IT RAINED AND IT DIED AGAIN WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. WHEN IT DIES YOU ARE PUT IN A VERY BAD SITUATION. SOMEONE COULD DEFINITELY DIE. I GIVE UP. IT IS SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY BECAUSE WE PUT $800 INTO IT GETTING FIXED AND SO FAR NO LUCK. IF I KNEW IT COULD BE FIXED I WOULD TAKE IT IN. THE CAR DOES NOT RESTART WHEN IT GETS DRY OUT AGAIN. I TRY JUMPING IT AND FUSE 38 BLOWS EVERY TIME. IS THERE A RECALL ON THIS? IT IS A VERY SCARY PROBLEM AND I SEE THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE ON THE WEB.

TRANSMISSION JERKS,SLIPS AND IF I WANT TO SKIP THE SHUDDERING I HAVE TO DRIVE FASTER ALSO IN REVERSE MODE I HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME WHILE PARKING BECAUSE THE REVERSE MODE MAKES THE CAR "JUMP" WHICH MAKES ME LOOSE CONTROL OF MY REVERSE SPEED AND THE CAR(TRANSMISSION) IS JUST BEING FIXED 1 WEEK AGO AND FORD PEOPLE TOLD ME IN FORD SERVICES THAT THAT IS HOW THE CAR IS SUPPOSED TO WORK! I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO SO DECIDED TO SELL(LOOSING 2K DOLLARS) THE CAR THE WAY IT WAS BUT I DO NOT THINK THE CAR HAS TO BE ON THE STREETS IS JUST DANGEROUS ,SO IN A NUTSHELL IF I DONT WANT THE CAR TO JERK OR SHUDDER I HAVE TO STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL HARDER THAT IS JUST UNSAFE AND IN REVERSE MODE MAKES THE CAR 'JUMPS" AND HIT OTHER CARS WHILE PARKING. FORD SERVICE PEOPLE TOLD ME THAT IS NORMAL SO I DECIDED TO GET RID OF THE CAR, BUT I SWEAR IF I HAD THE MONEY I WOULD BUY ALL OF THE FOCUSES WITH POWER SHIFT TRANSMISSION AND DESTROY THEM JUST TO HAVE AMERICAN DRIVERS SAFE, PLEASE DO SOMETHING THIS IS UNVELIVABLE.

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

WHEN TRYING TO RESUME SPEED THE GAS PEDAL DID NOT RESPOND COASTED THROUGH A LANE OF TRAFFIC TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE CAR DIED. UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP MATTHEW CURRY IN NOKOMIS. AFTER THREE DAYS OF SITTING FORD DECIDED TO LOOK AT THE CAR AND QUICKLY DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS A PURGE VALVE STICKING CAUSING A VACUUM IN THE GAS TANK WHICH CAUSED THE TANK TO COLLAPSE AND DAMAGE THE FUEL PUMP. IT WAS EASY TO RECOGNIZE BECAUSE THEY HAVE SEEN THIS SAME SITUATION MANY TIMES ON THE FOCUS MODEL. A DOCUMENTED RECALLL HAS OCCURRED IN AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND OVER THIS VERY SAME ISSUE FORD A US MANUFACTURED CAR YET NO RECALL IN THE US. I CAN FIND MORE THAN 100 REPORTS ONLINE REGARDING THIS SAME SITUATION IN THE US BUT FORD WILL NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I HAVE SPOKE TO CORPORATE WHERE THEY ISSUED A CASE/CLAIM # 14636968. THEY THEN ADVISE ME TO CALL THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO SAYS HE SENT EVERYTHING TO CORPORATE THEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND. I HAVE CALLED CHEVROLET AND HONDA THEY DON'T SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH GAS TANKS COLLAPSING. FORD STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAULTY SYSTEM. STEERING WHEEL HAS LOCKED TWICE AFTER VEHICLE HAD STARTED AND WAS MOVING. FIRST WAS WHEN LEAVING A GARAGE AT WORK AND MOVING FORWARDS ON A TURN. SECOND WAS WHEN TRYING TO BACK OUT OF A PARKING SPOT IN REVERSE AND LOCKED UP. BOTH TIMES THE HUD POPPED UP A MESSAGE INDICATING FAILURE. TOOK TO DEALER TO DIAGNOSE AND THEY SAID I NEED A NEW STEERING RACK FOR $2300. SEEMS STRANGE OR FAULTY ON THE COMPANY CONSIDERING IT IS A 2014 FOCUS WITH ONLY 38K MILES ON IT THAT THIS WOULD FAIL SO SOON. NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM HOPING THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING, OTHERWISE IT MIGHT NOT JUST BE REPAIR PROBLEM BUT A WRONGFUL DEATH SUIT AGAINST FORD. BEING UNABLE TO MOVE YOUR STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM CONFUSED THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR WAS SO HIGH. OTHER WEBSITES INDICATE WELL UNDER $1,000 TO REPLACE A STEERING RACK WITH PARTS AND LABOR. I SUGGEST FORD FIX THIS PROBLEM WITH A RECALL BEFORE IT GETS WORSE FOR ME AND OTHER OWNERS.

HORN FREQUENTLY GOES INTERMITTENT FOR WEEKS AT A TIME, THIS OCCURS WHILE DRIVING IN BOTH CITY AND HIGHWAY CONDITIONS AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED. THIS HAS CAUSED NUMEROUS NEAR COLLISIONS AS I AM UNABLE TO MAKE OTHER VEHICLES AWARE OF A SITUATION AS THEY TRY TO MERGE IN MY LANE. REPLACEMENT OF THE HORN ASSEMBLY HAS NOT RESOLVED THE ISSUE, AND TESTING BY THE DEALER HAS NUMEROUS FAULT CODES WHEN THE HORN DOES FAIL INDICATING A SHORT. TPMS SENSOR FAULT HAS NOW RECENTLY COME ON WHEN ACTUATING THE HORN AND DEALER IS STILL TRYING TO ISOLATE THE CAUSE OF THIS NEW ISSUE.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE #1 LANE IN MODERATE TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY, GOING ABOUT 40 MPH, MOVING STRAIGHT AHEAD, AND SLIGHTLY ACCELERATING. AN ALERT SHOWED UP ON MY DASH SCREEN STATING THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH STEERING ASSIST. AS I PULLED OFF THE FREEWAY, I NOTICED THAT IT WAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE DIFFICULT TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL, AND AS I TOOK A RIGHT TURN AT THE FREEWAY EXIT, IT WAS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHO RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE IT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP, AS HE BELIEVED IT FELL UNDER THE SAME STEERING ISSUE THAT MANY OTHER FORD MODELS HAVE LATELY BEEN RECALLED FOR. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING GEAR WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED, AT FULL COST TO ME BECAUSE THE FOCUS DOES NOT FALL UNDER THESE RECALLS. FORD MUST ISSUE A RECALL FOR THE FOCUS MODELS IN ADDITION TO THOSE THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED. I AM NOT THE ONLY FOCUS OWNER TO EXPERIENCE THIS TERRIFYING ISSUE, WHICH COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD MY STEERING ASSIST GONE OUT IN A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SITUATION. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING FAULT AND FOCUS OWNERS NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THE VEHICLES THEY ARE DRIVING ARE DANGEROUS.

LATE IN THE MONTH OF FEBRUARY 2018 I CAME OUT TO MY CAR ON A RAINY FRIDAY AND WHEN I TURNED ON MY VEHICLE THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS BEGAN TO OPERATE ERRATICALLY AND PERSISTENTLY WITH NO ABILITY TO CONTROL THEM AS THE DRIVER. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED FOR OVER A WEEK AND THE WIPERS WOULD OPERATE UNPREDICTABLY AND EVEN WHEN THE CAR WAS FULLY SHUT OFF INCLUDING THE IGNITION POWER.
