  2. Equipment, electrical, engine block heaterJan 15, 2026

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2013-2018 Focus, 2013-2019 Escape, and 2015-2016 MKC vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine. The engine block heater may crack and develop a coolant leak, causing it to short circuit when the block heater is plugged in.

An electrical short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.

Owners are advised not to plug in their block heater until the vehicle is remedied. Dealers will replace the block heater, free of charge. Owners will also have a alternative option to replace engine block heater element with a threaded plug, and remove the block heater electrical cord. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed March 6, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26S01. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on January 16, 2026.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJun 8, 2020

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, 2015 Mustang, 2013-2015 Escape and C-Max, 2012-2015 Focus, 2014-2016 Transit Connect, 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ, and 2015 MKC vehicles. These vehicles were previously recalled and repaired under recalls 15V-246, 16V-643 or 17V-210, however the repair may not have been completed properly. A component within the door latches may break making the doors difficult to latch and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the latch date codes to confirm if the repair was done correctly, and replace the side door latches if necessary, free of charge. Owners will also have the option to inspect their own vehicle's door latches and enter the date codes into a website to determine if the latches are correct. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 27, 2020. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 20S30.

  4. Fuel system, gasoline, storageJul 5, 2019

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012 and 2017 Focus vehicles equipped with 2.0L GDI gasoline engines and 2013-2014 Focus ST vehicles equipped with 2.0L GTDI engines, previously recalled under 18V-735. The affected vehicles did not have the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) updated as intended. Therefore, the Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vacuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began July 29, 2019. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 19S22.

Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain 2012-2018 Ford Focus vehicles with a 2.0L GDI or 2.0L GTDI engine. The Canister Purge Valve (CPV) may malfunction, possibly causing excessive vacuum in fuel vapor management system.

The excessive vaccuum may result in an engine stall while driving, without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module. Dealers will also check for fault codes and replace the CPV as needed. If the CPV is replaced, dealers will inspect and replace the carbon canister, fuel tank and fuel delivery module as necessary. The recall began August 19, 2019. Ford Motor Company (Ford) is recalling certain model year 2013-2017 Ford Focus hatchback vehicles manufactured February 14, 2012, to August 26, 2016 and equipped with a manual transmission. The hatchback of the affected vehicles may be unlatched with a single press of the interior latch release button. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

With only a single press needed, the driver may accidently unlatch the hatchback, increasing the risk of injury to any unsecured passengers in the back.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Body Control Module with updated software, free of charge. The recall began February 10, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16C13.

A component within the door latches may break, preventing the doors from latching and/or leading the driver or a passenger to believe a door is securely closed when, in fact, it is not.

A door that is not securely latched could open while the vehicle is in motion, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the door latches with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 27, 2017. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 16S30.

Improper nickel plating of components within the fuel pump may result in the fuel pump failing.

If the fuel pump fails, the vehicle may stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash.

Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel pump, free of charge. The recall began on February 27, 2015. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 14S30.

WHILE DRIVING ON CITY STREETS THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND JERKS AND SOUNDS LIKE IT'S GOING TO FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY FORD WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE, ESPECIALLY MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. FORD NEEDS TO BUY ALL THESE VEHICLES BACK! THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN ON A DAILY BASIS. IT'S BEEN IN FOR REPAIR TWICE AND A RECALL ONCE. STILL NOT FIXED. I WOULD SELL THIS CAR IF I COULD BUT THE VALUE HAS DROPPED SIGNIFICANTLY DUE TO THIS KNOWN ISSUE.

  2. Latches/locks/linkages, Sep 28, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR OPENED INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V643000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DEALER WAS ONLY AGREEING TO REPAIR THE DOOR LATCH THAT FAILED DUE TO A PART SHORTAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,400.

POWER LOSS TO DRIVE TRAIN AND VEHICLE DISPLAYS "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE. THIS HAD HAPPENED REPEATEDLY WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON PUBLIC ROADS.

  5. Power train, Sep 28, 2016

MY TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE ON MY 2014 FORD FOCUS. IT SHUDDERS, JERKS, AND HESITATES WHEN I START ACCELERATING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE CLUTCHES WHICH TAKES THEM 8 DAYS! THE CAR HAS ONLY 27,500 MILES ON IT.

  6. Power train, Other or unspecified, Sep 28, 2016

CLUTCH IN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS STALLING, CAR SHUTTERS AT 24,000 MILES. CAR DOESN'T WANT TO GO UP HILLS, AND ACTS MINE IT'S STALLING OUT WHEN YOU PULL OUT. THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS CAR AND I DO NOT FEEL SHE IS SAFE.

  7. Power train, Sep 27, 2016

WITHIN THE FIRST 10,000 MILES OF OWNERSHIP THE TRANSMISSION IN OUR 2014 FORD FOCUS HAS BEEN REBUILT AND THE CLUTCH HAS BEEN REBUILT/FIXED AS WELL AS MULTIPLE SOFTWARE UPDATES APPLIED, AND WE HAVE COMPLAINED EVERY TIME WE TAKE THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS STILL BROKEN. IT SHUDDERS, JERKS, RUMBLES, HARD SHIFTS AND EVEN COMES CLOSE TO STALLING WITH NO ACCELERATION/MOVEMENT AT TIMES. I FEAR DRIVING IT THAT I CANNOT TAKE OFF FROM A STOP SAFELY WITHOUT THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND I WILL END UP BEING HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS A RESULT. THIS TRANSMISSION IS DANGEROUS AND WILL RESULT IN ACCIDENTS. WORST TRANSMISSION I HAVE EVER OWNED AND FORD WILL NOT FIX NOR BUY US OUT OF THE CAR...ITS A LEMON!

  8. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Electronic stability control (ESC), Sep 26, 2016

SINCE SINCE BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND-NEW IN 2014 THERE HAS BEEN A GRINDING STUTTERING SHAKING AND JERKING OF THE TRANSMISSION WHEN IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENS WHETHER THE CAR IS ON THE HIGHWAY OR AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED BUT MOSTLY WHEN DRIVING FORWARD FROM PARK. FORD ATTEMPTED TO UPGRADE THE SOFTWARE TO THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES WHICH HAS NEVER WORKED. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE TO FORD AND THEY ARE CLAIMING THAT IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE TRANSMISSION AND IT IS NORMAL ACTIVITY. THE TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS AND JERKS SO MUCH THAT THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT AND WILL NOT MOVE FORWARD APPROPRIATELY AND I HAVE COME CLOSE TO GETTING REAR-ENDED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION CANNOT CATCH UP WITH THE ACCELERATION. I AM ASKING FORD FOR ASSISTANCE IN TRADING THE CAR IN SINCE THE VALUE IN THE CAR DEPRECIATED SO MUCH BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO HELP ME.

  9. Air bags, Structure, Engine, Sep 26, 2016, crash

GOING LESS THAN 10 MPH THE CAR WAS MAKING A WIDE TURN ON MY STREET IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE WHEN FOCUS ACCELERATED AND WENT THROUGH A WIRE FENCE, TAKING DOWN A METAL STAKE, OVER LIMESTONE BOULDERS BEFORE HITTING A TREE, STUMPS, AND BUSHES ON MY PROPERTY. AIR BAGS DID NOT EMPLOY. WINDSHIELD TOTALLY SHATTERED WITH HOLES FROM TREE BRANCHES. BODY OF CAR SEVERELY DAMAGED IF NOT TOTALED. INSURANCE ADJUSTER WILL DETERMINE ON WEDNESDAY 9/28/2016

  10. Power train, Sep 23, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE HESITATED AND ATTEMPTED TO STALL. THE TRANSMISSION WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V813000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

  11. Other or unspecified, Sep 23, 2016

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IN 2014 NEW. A LITTLE LESS THAN A YEAR AFTER I HAD THE CAR, I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SYNC SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS ME TO USE MY CELL PHONE HANDS FREE. IT WILL STAY PAIRED WITH MY PHONE FOR ABOUT 3 TO 4 WEEKS AND THEN WILL DROP THE CONNECTION WITH MY PHONE. I HAVE HAD IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE REGIONAL MANAGER OF FORD CORPORATE AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO GIVE ME A BUYBACK OPTION SO I CAN GO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT WILL ACTUALLY WORK WITH MY CELL PHONE. IT IS THEIR PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.

  12. Other or unspecified, Sep 16, 2016

REAR PASSENGER DOOR LATCH BROKE WHILE IN MOTION; DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE OR LOCK.

  13. Power train, Sep 16, 2016

MY 2014 FORD FOUS HAS A SHUDDERING AND SHIFTING ISSUES ON ACCELERATION. SOMETIMES MY CAR WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR. FORD KEEPS TELLING ME THAT IS NORMAL AND TO BRING THE CAR IN IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. MY FEAR IS THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN IN A INTERSECTION CAUSING A ACCIDENT. FORD IS JUST DRAGGING THIER FEET ON THIS ISSUE UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND CONSUMERS LIKE ME ARE LEFT WITH THE BILL. FORD KNOWS THAT THERE ARE PROBLEMS AND REFUSES TO FIX IT. DOES IT TAKE THE MOTORING PUBLC TO LOSE LIVES BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE?

  14. Power train, Sep 15, 2016

TRANSMISSION HESITATION FROM A STOP, TYPICALLY IN GEAR (DRIVE OR SPORTMODE), SOMETIMES SEVERE, CAUSING JERKING. BEEN HAPPENING LITERALLY SINCE I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE, BUT SEEMS TO BE NOW MORE PRONOUNCED, ESPECIALLY AFTER LONGER DRIVES. ON THE HIGHWAY WITH STOP & GO TRAFFIC, AND THIS PROBLEM IS VERY UNSETTLING AND DANGEROUS.

  20. Power train, Sep 5, 2016

WE BOUGHT THIS CAR TO HAVE A SAFE, RELIABLE VEHICLE. I LIVE IN A MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY WITH PLENTY OF WILDLIFE AND VERY FEW OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD. MY CAR BROKE DOWN ON THE MOUNTAIN HIGHWAY WHEN LEAVING FOR WORK AT 5:15AM. I GOT BARELY 2 MILES FROM HOME AND I LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE MORE THAN 10 MILES PER HOUR AND JERKED, HESITATED, MADE GRINDING NOISE. IT HAS HESITATED FROM TAKE OFF SINCE WE'VE HAD IT. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE AND TOOK IT IN IMMEDIATELY. THAT DID NOTHING TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW IT STOPPED RUNNING COMPLETELY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IT WAS TOWED TO THE SHOP AND WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE PART (TCM MODULE) IS ON BACK ORDER AND WE COULD BE WITHOUT OUR CAR FOR 1 TO 8 WEEKS. THEY COULD CARE LESS THAT THIS IS OUR MAIN FORM OF TRANSPORTATION AND I WILL HAVE TO GET A RENTAL IN ORDER TO GET TO WORK IN ORDER TO MAKE CAR PAYMENTS FOR A CAR I CAN'T DRIVE. I ESCALATED MY CONCERNS ALL THE WAY UP TO CORPORATE CUSTOMER RELATIONS AT FORD. SO GOING INTO THE WEEKEND I HAD NO HELP AT ALL FROM ANYONE AT FORD AND WAS FORCED TO OBTAIN A RENTAL AT MY COST. SO FAR I'M LOOKING AT $300 AND PRAYING THAT MY CAR IS BACK BEFORE I HAVE TO RETURN THE RENTAL. THIS IS A BUNCH OF [XXX] FROM FORD. IT'S ALL OVER THE INTERNET THE ISSUES WITH THESE CARS. FOR THEM TO NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH RENTALS IS THE WORST POSSIBLE SERVICE EVER. I BET THEY SURE WILL EXPECT MY PAYMENT ON TIME WON'T THEY? I'VE FILED CLAIMS WITH A LEMON LAW ATTORNEY AND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ATTORNEY. AS WELL ON CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY AND NHTSA. WE ARE EXPERIENCING EXACTLY THE SAME ISSUE AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE (41) REPORTED ON THIS WEBSITE AND MORE PEOPLE ON OTHER WEBSITES ON INTERNET. NHTSA CONDUCTED OFFICIAL INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISSUE (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13031). WE HAVE TO UNFORTUNATELY REPORT THAT FORD HAS NOT ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE TILL THIS DATE (9-3-2016). OUR CAR WAS MULTIPLE TIMES IN DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIPS BUT NONE OF THEM WERE ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. THE REPLACED BATTERY, HIGH VOLTAGE HARNESS, REPROGRAMMED PCM AND TPM MODULES SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IS STILL PRESENT. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE MORE THAN 10 TIMES SINCE 2014 (WE STOPPED COUNTING), EVEN 5 TIMES IN ONE DAY. ISSUE: THE VEHICLE, WHILE IN MOTION, SUDDENLY LOSES POWER AND DRIVER RECEIVES A RED TRIANGLE INDICATOR AND THE MESSAGE "STOP SAFELY NOW" IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. DRIVER UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT STOP SAFELY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE LOSSES ALL ENGINE POWER AND IS DECELERATING VERY FAST SO THE DRIVER DOESN'T HAVE TIME TO PULL OVER WHILE IN TRAFFIC OR DRIVING ON A FREEWAY. WE WOULD LIKE NHTSA TO TAKE ACTION AGAIN AS THE ISSUE WAS NOT ADDRESSED IN 2013 AS STATED UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE13031. THIS IS SAFETY ISSUE NOT ONLY FOR THE DRIVER AND VEHICLE OCCUPANTS BUT ALSO FOR OTHER PEOPLE IN SURROUNDING VEHICLES.

SEVERE TRANSMISSION/CLUTCH PROBLEMS. SHUDDERS, HESITATES AND SURGES WHEN SHIFTING OR EVEN JUST DRIVING. CANNOT SLOW THEN ACCELERATE WITHOUT STOPPING WITHOUT HEAVY JERKING. WHEN TRYING TO PASS ON A FREEWAY, CAR FALLS INTO NEUTRAL AND WON'T ACCELERATE. CAR HAS FEWER THAN 10,000 MILES AND CLUTCH IS ALREADY 25% WORN.
