  1. Power train, Jan 10, 2017

IN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR SLOW ROLL, THERE IS NOTICEABLE HESITATION AND BUCKING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS IS AT ALL TIMES AND NOT JUST AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM! WE WERE TOLD THIS WAS "NORMAL" BY FORD SERVICE, BUT THAT NO REPAIRS WERE CALLED FOR UNTIL THE SITUATION GOT WORSE!!! THE PROBLEM INVOLVED THE CLUTCH AND THE POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION.

  2. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Jan 7, 2017

I AM WRITING TO REPORT A PROBLEM WITH DELAYS IN GAS PEDAL RESPONSIVENESS. THIS HAS CAUSED SEVERAL POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITIONS IN THE FOLLOWING SCENARIOS: (1) THE CAR CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE GAS PEDAL IS LET OFF (2) THERE IS A DELAY BETWEEN PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL AND RECEIVING ACCELERATION (THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR BEING UNDER POWERED, IT CAN ACCELERATE FINE AT THE SAME RPM. HERE, IT WILL SIMPLY ACT AS IF THE ACCELERATOR IS NOT DOWN) (3) 3-POINT TURNS OR PARALLEL PARKING IN TRAFFIC CANNOT BE DONE QUICKLY/SMOOTHLY, SINCE THERE IS NO POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS ONCE THE CAR IS IN GEAR. THE CAR WILL NOT PROVIDE GAS TO THE ENGINE WHEN SHIFTED INTO GEAR. THIS IS MOST NOTICEABLE THE CAR IS FIRST SHIFTED, BUT CAN ALSO OCCUR AT STOP SIGNS. WHEN YOU RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE REVVING UP, EVEN IF YOU SWITCH THE BRAKE PEDAL. DURING CONTINUOUS DRIVING, WHEN YOU RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR WILL CONTINUE REVVING UP, EVEN IF YOU SWITCH THE BRAKE PEDAL, BEFORE UPSHIFTING. THIS UPSHIFT WILL ALSO JOLT THE CAR FORWARD. IF THIS OCCURS DURING CORNERING, IT CAN MAKE TURNS LESS STABLE. THESE UNPREDICTABLE DELAYS AND ROUGH SHIFTS MAKE IT HARDER TO RESPOND TO DIFFERENT DRIVING CONDITIONS AND ALSO MAKE IT HARDER FOR OTHER DRIVERS TO JUDGE YOUR INTENT. FURTHER, PROBLEMS WITH JERKINESS SEEM TO INCREASE IN WARMER WEATHER. POTENTIALLY SOLVABLE WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE, BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. TEST DROVE ANOTHER BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND FOUND SOME OF THE SAME BEHAVIORS, INDICATING IT IS AN INHERENT DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.

  3. Power train, Dec 4, 2016

TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS UPON TAKE OFF , AND FUNNY NOISE ON BOTTOM END OF VEHICLE. SEEMS TO HAVE NO ACCELERATION BETWEEN 1ST & 2ND GEAR.

  4. Power train, Dec 1, 2016

VEHICLE TRANSMISSION STUTTERS, HESITATES AND SHAKES UPON TAKEOFF. NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED DUE TO THIS CONDITION BUT SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS HAVE OCCURRED. THE DEALERSHIP THAT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE COMPLAINT COULD IN FACT REPLICATE THE COMPLAINT BUT STATED THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T HESITATE AND STUTTER"ENOUGH" TO WARRANT A FIX. IT SEEMS WAITING FOR A FATALITY IS NOT THE CORRECT STANCE FOR FORD PRIOR TO HAVING A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM OR TO FIX THIS INDIVIDUAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I UNDERSTAND THERE IS CURRENTLY A CLASS ACTION PROCEEDING REGARDING THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS. THE DEALER READILY ADMITTED THIS TRANSMISSION IS A PROBLEM BUT FORD DOES NOT CARE TO ADDRESS IT. *TR

  5. Engine, Nov 29, 2016

VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TWICE TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR ISSUE WITH THE COOLANT SENSOR AND ASSOCIATED WIRING HARNESS. FAULTY COOLANT SENSOR/WIRING HARNESS/OTHER CAUSES CEL TO ILLUMINATE. DURING NORMAL DRIVING, VEHICLE WILL GO IN TO 'FAILSAFE MODE' WHICH DRASTICALLY LOWERS POWER OUTPUT. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND RANDOMLY. VEHICLE MUST BE RESTARTED FOR IT TO FUNCTION NORMALLY AGAIN. ONLY TO GO BACK IN TO 'FAILSAFE MODE' SHORTLY AFTER. THIS PRESENTS A SAFETY ISSUE DURING MERGING, PASSING, STEEP UPHILL DRIVING, AND ANY OTHER INSTANCE WHICH REQUIRES POWER TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH A MOVING VEHICLE AND/OR STATIONARY OBJECT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME TWICE IN 2 DAYS. I WAS MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY. I TRY TO MATCH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC BUT IS UNABLE TO DUE TO THE 'FAILSAFE MODE' MY VEHICLE WAS IN. I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. LUCKILY, THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN ENOUGH NOT TO HIT ME. AND FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLE BEHIND THEM. MY INABILITY TO MERGE SAFELY IN TO TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY PRESENTS A HUGE SAFETY RISK FOR MYSELF AND OTHER MOTORISTS. *TR

  6. Power train, Oct 2, 2016

TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS, HESITATES, AND VIBRATES WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND SHIFTING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEAR. THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE QUICK ENOUGH SO IT CAN BE DANGEROUS WHEN PULLING INTO AN INTERSECTION WITH MOVING CARS. FORD SAYS THAT IT IS NORMAL. THE CAR VIBRATES SO BAD MY COMATOSE KIDS (ALWAYS ON PHONE) EVEN MENTION WHY THE CAR FEELS SO SHAKY. FOR A NEW CAR IT IS UNACCEPTABLE. I HAVE A 12 YEAR OLD CAR THAT IS MUCH SMOOTHER THAN THIS AND IT IS WORTH $1200. NOT TO MENTION SAFER.

  7. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 27, 2016

BOUGHT THIS CAR THIS SPRING AND BEEN HAVING SHIFTING PROBLEMS. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS IT IS NORMAL FOR THIS CAR. IT FEELS LIKE A MISFIRE BUT IT THE ELECTRONIC SHIFTED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IF I KNEW THIS BEFORE I BOUGHT THE CAR I WOULD NOT HAVE.

  8. Air bags, Seat belts, Electronic stability control (ESC), Sep 24, 2016

WHEN THE CAR STARTS, IT DISPLAYS SEVERAL DASHBOARD WARNING MESSAGES AND CHIMES, INDICATING MALFUNCTIONING AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS, TRACTION CONTROL, AND HILL START ASSIST (MANUAL TRANSMISSION). DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED A FAULTY RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE (RCM) AND SAID THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE MODULE IS REPLACED. THAT WAS TWO MONTHS AGO, AND THE DEALERSHIP STILL HASN'T FOUND THE REPLACEMENT PART.

  9. Power train, Aug 29, 2016

I BOUGHT THE CAR IN APRIL 2016. I HAD IT LESS THAN TWO WEEKS BEFORE I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP OVER THE TRANSMISSION. I DON'T THINK I'D EVEN PUT 500 MILES ON IT YET. OF COURSE THEY TOLD ME TO BRING IT BACK AFTER 1,200 MILES SINCE THE THAT'S THE TRANSMISSIONS "GREENBELT PERIOD". IT'S BEEN BACK, NEEDLESS TO SAY I'M STILL HAVING THE ISSUE. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNS GREEN, I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR GOES NOWHERE. IT REVS UP TO ABOUT 2,000 RPM, THEN DROPS BACK DOWN, ENGAGES THE GEAR AND STARTS TO MOVE. AND WHEN IT FINALLY DOES START TO MOVE, IT CRAWLS AWAY LIKE A TURTLE. EVEN IF I GO PEDAL-TO-THE-METAL, IT MAKES NO DIFFERENCE. I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER YELLED AT THE CAR I'M IN TO "MOVE IT'S ASS". IT'S PATHETIC. I HAVE THE 4 CYLINDER MODEL TOO. WHILE TRYING TO MERGE ON THE INTERSTATE UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION, THE CAR POPS OUT OF GEAR AND WILL REDLINE WHILE LOSING SPEED RAPIDLY. I'VE NEARLY BEEN REAR-ENDED 6 TIMES TRYING TO GET ON THE INTERSTATE. FORTUNATELY (OR UNFORTUNATELY PERHAPS) MY CAR HAS THE FORD SELECTSHIFT TRANSMISSION, SO I'VE LEARNED TO PUT IT INTO SELECTSHIFT MODE AND KEEP THE CAR IN 2ND OR 3RD GEAR UNTIL I'VE MADE IT ON TO THE INTERSTATE. AT THAT POINT, I MOVE THE SHIFTER BACK INTO "DRIVE" (D) AND PRAY THE CAR ACCELERATES WHEN I HIT THE GAS. BUT I'M NOT DONE. WHEN SWITCHING LANES ON THE INTERSTATE, I HAVE TO BE SURE THAT THE LANE I'M MOVING TO HAS AT LEAST AT 5 CAR GAP BECAUSE ONCE I'VE SWITCHED LANES AND HIT THE ACCELERATOR TO PASS, MOVE INTO MY NEW LANE AND LIFT MY FOOT, THE CAR CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE FOR ANOTHER SECOND OR TWO, THEN POPS OUT OF GEAR AND REENGAGES. I CHOSE THE FIRST DATE IT HAPPENED FOR "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN?". THE ISSUE PERSISTS TODAY, AUGUST 29TH, 2016. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 8,500 MILES ON IT.

  10. Power train, Engine, Aug 16, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED AND EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THE CHECKING ENGINE AND SERVICE CAR SOON WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER FOR A SECOND TIME. MY 2016 FORD FOCUS HAS 5500 MILES ON IT AND IT OVERHEATED LAST WEEK, FORD TOWED TO DEALER AND AFTER A FEW DAYS GOT A CALL STATING THERE WAS A ENGINE PROBLEM AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I ASKED IF THEY COULD JUST GIVE ME A NEW VEHICLE BECAUSE OF THE LOW MILLAGE AND I WAS TO NO BY DISTRICT SERVICE MANAGER. LAST FORD I BUY

WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 95 APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR SOUTHBOUND I HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION, I DID NOT FEEL ANY IMPACT ON THE AUTOMOBILE BUT BEGAN TO HEAR RATTLING ON THE TOP OF THE ROOF. WHEN I PULLED OVER, I SAW THAT SUNROOF HAD SHATTERED AND EXPLODED. THE SUNROOF COVER ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WAS CLOSED AND HAD NOT BEEN OPENED. NO OBJECT HIT THE SUNROOF, IT JUST EXPLODED. I HAVE PICTURES. NO OTHER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE ANYWHERE.
