Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorJul 1, 2021

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 18, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Phase II owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 31, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. This recall supersedes NHTSA recall number 20V-736. GM's number for this recall is N202324251.

  2. Seat belts, frontApr 8, 2021

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

  3. Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorNov 25, 2020

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator.

If the end cap separates from the inflator, the compressed gas will escape and the end cap can be propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the RRAB modules on the left and/or right side, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Note: GM filed a new recall, number 21V-504 that supersedes this recall. All vehicles previously recalled under 20V-736 will now be repaired under the new recall number 21V-504. GM's numbers for this recall are N202309680, N202309681, and N202309682.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, wheel speed sensor/tone ringOct 24, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  5. Service brakes, hydraulic, power assist, vacuumSep 6, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

  6. Steering, electric power assist systemSep 7, 2018

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. Electric power steering (EPS) assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist.

If EPS assist is lost and then suddenly returns, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. The recall began October 12, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18289.

  7. Air bags, frontalJul 10, 2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. 8. Air bags, frontalSep 8, 2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. 9. Seat beltsApr 12, 2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.

If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15822.

  1. Exterior lighting, Feb 10, 2016

THE HI/LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT USEABLE IN ANYTHING THAN CLEAR DRY WELL MARK ROADS. CAN NOT SEE THE SIDE ROAD TO TURN ON IT. IF I HAD KNOW THEY WERE THIS BAD WOULD NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK.

  2. Exterior lighting, Feb 1, 2016

HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY DIM. HIGH BEAMS PROVIDE NO ILLUMINATION TO THE FRONT SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. USING FOG LIGHTS WITH LOW BEAM IS ACTUALLY BRIGHTER THAN THE HIGH BEAMS. EVEN AFTER HAVING THE DEALER INSTALL NEW BULBS THE LIGHTING IS VERY WEAK IN A LOW ILLUMINATION AREA, I.E. NO MOON, NO STREET LIGHT, ROAD. WHEN MAKING A TURN IN AN UN LIT AREA I CAN'T EVEN SEE WHERE THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ENDS. THESE SO CALLED PROJECTOR TYPE HEADLIGHTS DON'T SEEM TO WORK VERY WELL. I KNOW FOR A FACT THE 2014 AND 2015 HAVE THE SAME SET UP. THE 2016 HAS A WHOLE NEW SET UP WITH HID LIGHTING AND WORK GREAT. THIS TELLS ME THAT GM KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM. UNFORTUNATELY THEIR "FIX" ONLY IF YOU COMPLAIN, ISN'T FIXING ANYTHING... ON A TRIP IN THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS IN GATLINBURG TN I NEARLY CRASHED OFF THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN. I COULD NOT SEE WHERE THE EDGE OF THE ROAD WAS. EVEN THE PASSENGERS ASKED ME "WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOUR LIGHTS?" THE SAID "TURN ON YOUR HIGH BEAMS" AND I STATED, "THEY ARE ON". WE CAN'T BELIEVE THESE LIGHT PASS THE COMMON SENSE TEST..

  3. Exterior lighting, Jan 22, 2016

90% OF MY DRIVING IS AT NIGHT. I DRIVE ON MIXED ROADWAYS. I FIND THAT THE HEADLAMPS ON MY GMC SIERRA ARE INADEQUATE AT BEST. I BROUGHT THE SIERRA TO THE DEALER, WHO PERFORMED A TSB, AND ALTHOUGH IT IMPROVED THE LIGHTING, IT IS STILL WAY BELOW PAR. IT'S AS IF I'M DRIVING A 20 YEAR OLD CAR WITH YELLOWED OUT LENS COVER. IN RAINY WEATHER, THE HEADLAMPS ARE NONEXISTENT.

  4. Exterior lighting, Jan 8, 2016

THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY VEHICLE ARE UNSAFE FOR NIGHT DRIVING IN UNFAMILIAR ROADWAYS. BESIDES BEING VERY DIM, ANYTHING 60-70 FEET AHEAD OF YOU CAN'T BE SEEN. THERE IS A CUTOFF LINE THAT BLOCKS ROADSIDE OBJECTS AND THE CUTOFF TOP BAR THAT DOESN'T ILLUMINATE ROAD SIGNS OR STREET MARKERS. IMAGINE HOLDING A SHOE BOX TO YOUR FACE WITH BOTH END REMOVED AND THAT DESCRIBES DRIVING WITH THIS UNSAFE SYSTEM. I THOUGHT MINE WAY AN ISOLATED CASE BUT "PROBLEMS WITH GMC HEADLIGHTS" ON THE INTERNET CLEARLY SHOWS A MAJOR PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND REPLACED.

  5. Exterior lighting, Jan 5, 2016

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, BOTH LOW AND HIGH BEAM HEAD LAMPS FAILED TO FULLY ILLUMINATE, WHICH DIMINISHED THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. UPDATED 04/06/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE LIGHTS ARE WORKING, BUT THEY DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE ROAD WELL ENOUGH. UPDATED 11/21/2017*JS

  6. Exterior lighting, Dec 23, 2015

HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT SAFE TO BE USED IN THE DARK. DRIVING ON CURVY, HILLY ROADS IS VERY DANGEROUS. CAN NOT SEE WELL. HIGH BEAMS BARELY DIFFERENT FROM LOW BEAMS. LIVE IN TOWN SO THIS WAS FIRST TIME OUT ON ROAD AT NIGHT. SCARY. CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE IN RAIN OR SNOW STORM.

  7. Power train, Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Nov 5, 2015

HEADLIGHTS ARE VERY POOR (WHEN WET ROAD OR IN TOWN) CANNOT TELL THEY BURNING...I HAVE 20/20 VISION......ON SLOW DOWN DOES NOT DOWN SHIFT....CANNOT ACCELERATE....THE STARTER HANGS UP ON START AS IF DOES NOT FIRE OR NO FUEL PUMP

  8. Exterior lighting, Sep 19, 2015

THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS TRUCK ARE TERRIBLE. VERY DIM LIGHT, CAN'T SEE TO SIDE WHILE MAKING A TURN. THE HIGH BEAMS DOESN'T MAKE MUCH OF A DIFFERENCE. CONTACTED GMC DIRECTLY AND THEY JUST REFER ME TO TH DEALERSHIP. LOOKING INTO AFTER MARKET LIGHTS. LOOKS LIKE THEY MAY NOT BE LEGAL.SO MANY COMPLAINTS WHEN WILL SOMETHING BE DONE?

  9. Power train, Exterior lighting, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 13, 2015

DRIVING MY NEW 2015 GMC $52,000 GMC SIERRA, I NOTICED A DISTINCT SLIPPING/HESITATION/GENERAL ROUGHNESS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A DEAD STOP. THE TRUCK SEEMED TO EITHER HAVE A TRANSMISSION OR ENGINE PROBLEM. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CHECK, AND THEY INDICATED THAT THIS WAS "NORMAL" AND IT WAS JUST THE "CYLINDER DEACTIVATION" FEATURE PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. I EXPLAINED TO THEM THAT CYLINDER DEACTIVATION ONLY TYPICALLY HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND ESPECIALLY NOT FROM A STAND STILL. THEY STUCK BY THEIR STORY AND AGAIN STATED THIS WAS NORMAL. MY SON CAME TO SEE ME AND DROVE MY NEW TRUCK. OF COURSE THE TRUCK HESITATED AND SLIPPED FROM A DEAD START. "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR NEW TRUCK DAD?" HE ASKED. I TOLD HIM IT WAS 'NORMAL AND HE JUST ROLLED HIS EYES. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR EVERY SIERRA THAT GMC MAKES WITH THE 5.3 ENGINE AND 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION WOULD DO THIS. I HAVE READ ON NUMEROUS MESSAGE BOARDS AND WEBSITES WHERE THIS IS AN ISSUE AND GM NEEDS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE EXTREMELY DIM AND ARE BARELY USABLE. AS OTHERS HAVE STATED, I CAN ONLY SEE MAYBE 20-30 FEET IN FRONT OF ME AND NOT VERY BRIGHT AT THAT.

  10. Exterior lighting, Aug 28, 2015

I LEASED A 2015 GMC PICKUP AND AFTER DRIVING IT AT NIGHT FOUND THAT THE HEAD LIGHTS ARE VERY POOR AND THEY PROVIDE VERY LITTLE VISIBILITY ON LOW BEAM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE ANSWER IS TO CHANGE A BULBS I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT I WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT EVEN NOTICE A DIFFERENCE. THEY ARE CORRECT THE LIGHTS ARE STILL AT A POINT THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE TRUCK AT NIGHT. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THESE TRUCKS SO THEY ARE STILL BEING SOLD OFF THE LOT AND THEY ARE DANGEROUS. IF YOU WOULD TAKE THE TIME TO DRIVE ONE AT NIGHT YOU MIGHT HAVE A BETTER IDEA OF WHAT PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT. IF I CAN I AM GOING TO GET RID OF THIS TRUCK AS FAST AS I CAN SINCE GMC DOES NOT SEEM TO WANT TO ACTUALLY FIX THE PROBLEM. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEBODY IS KILLED DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I ONLY WISH SOMETHING WOULD BE DONE BEFORE THE DEATHS START TO HAPPEN.

  11. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Visibility/wiper, Jun 15, 2015

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2015 GMC SIERRA K1500 SLT. I SELECTED THE SLT FOR THE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS WHICH ARE NOT OFFERED ON THE LOWER TRIMS FOR IMPROVED LIGHTING. HOWEVER, THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE EXTREMELY POOR ILLUMINATION (CANNOT SEE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, VERY DIM, POOR PROJECTION IN FRONT) IN LOW OR HIGH BEAM. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE THE WORST ON ANY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED OVER THE PAST 35 YEARS. I ALMOST HIT A DEER ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT, DRIVING 35 MPH, BECAUSE THE DEER COULD NOT BE SEEN IN THE VISIBLE ARC OF THE LOW BEAMS UNTIL TOO LATE. THE DEER WAS STANDING ON THE ROAD FOG LINE. I LOCATED A GM DOCUMENT ON SEVERAL TRUCK FORUMS CONCERNING THIS ISSUE. ORIGINAL DOCUMENT # 4093100, PIT5374 (2/27/2015) AND FOLLOWUP DOCUMENT # 4109395, PIT5374A (3/9/2015).

  12. Exterior lighting, May 1, 2015

DRIVING HOME FROM LATROBE IN THE RAIN I COULD NOT SEE WITH THE LIGHTS . THE LIGHTS HAVE BLIND SPOTS IN THEM AND I HAVE HAD THEM CHANGED ONCE ALREADY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY WERE HAVING SOME PROBLEMS WITH THE LIGHTS IN THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE OF THE BLIND SPOTS WHEN DRIVING. THIS IS OCCURRING NOT ONLY IN THE RAIN BECAUSE THE NIGHT BEFORE NICE CLEAR NIGHT THE SAME SHADING COMING FROM THESE LIGHTS. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK AT NIGHT BECAUSE OF THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AS A SAFETY HAZARD . *TR

2015 GMC SIERRA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE HEAD LIGHTS ARE TOO DIM. *SMD

  14. Exterior lighting, Mar 24, 2015

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS LOW BEAM FAILED TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE LIGHT COVERAGE MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND THE HIGH BEAM ALSO FAILED TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT LIGHT COVERAGE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 731.

  15. Exterior lighting, Mar 23, 2015

HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED BY THE DEALER TWICE. THE HEADLIGHTS ARE A SINGLE BULB DESIGN (LOW AND HIGH BEAMS FROM ONE BULB). IF LOW BEAMS ARE ADJUSTED TO ADEQUATELY SEE THE ROAD DURING NIGHT DRIVING THE HIGH BEAMS POINT INTO THE AIR (APPROX. 10 FEET IN THE AIR AT 100 FEET FROM THE VEHICLE). IF THE BEAMS ARE ADJUSTED TO ALLOW THE HIGH BEAMS TO ILLUMINATE THE ROAD PROPERLY; WHEN SWITCHED TO THE LOW BEAMS THERE IS INSUFFICIENT LIGHT ON ROAD TO DRIVE SAFELY AT 55 MPH. *TR

  16. Exterior lighting, Mar 19, 2015

VEHICLE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHTS HAVE VERY POOR COVERAGE AND BRIGHTNESS. WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. THEY BARELY LIGHT THE ROAD IN FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND COVERAGE SIDE TO SIDE IS VERY WEAK. ADDITIONALLY WHEN IT IS RAINING OUT, IT IS LIKE DRIVING WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON AT ALL. TO HAVE BETTER HEAD LIGHTS I WOULD HAVE HAD TO BUY SPECIAL LIGHTING OPTION AVAILABLE ONLY ON A HIGHER-UP MODEL OF GMC SIERRA TRUCK. ALL MODELS OF GMC SIERRA 2015 TRUCKS SHOULD HAVE ADEQUATE HEADLIGHTS WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY THE TOP/ MORE EXPENSIVE MODEL TO GET THEM. GMC SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO RECALL ALL GMC SIERRA 2015 TRUCKS AND REFIT THEM WITH ADEQUATE LIGHTING BEFORE BAD ACCIDENTS OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THIS DEFICIENCY. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SUCH POOR LIGHTING WITH A VEHICLE DRIVING AT NIGHT OR IN RAIN. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE ON A NEW GMC TRUCK. *TR

  17. Exterior lighting, Mar 10, 2015

THE PROJECTION STYLE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE ROADWAY SUFFICIENTLY ENOUGH AT NIGHT TO TRAVEL MORE THAN 30 MPH. WHILE TRAVELING ON RURAL AND MOUNTAIN ROADS YOU CANNOT SEE FAR ENOUGH TO SEE OBSTRUCTIONS, WILDLIFE OR PEDESTRIANS AT NIGHT. THE HORIZONTAL CUTOFF LINE OF THE LIGHTS ON LOW BEAM DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO SEE THE TOPS OF SMALL RISES IN THE ROADWAY AS CLOSE AS 30 FEET AWAY. WITH THIS STYLE OF PROJECTION LIGHTING THERE IS NO SPILLAGE OF LIGHT ABOVE ESTABLISHED LIGHT SHADE COVER SETTING ON LOW BEAMS. IT IS COMPLETELY DARK ABOVE THIS LINE WITH LOW BEAMS SELECTED. THIS DOES NOT GIVE THE DRIVER A CHANCE TO SEE OBJECTS IN THE ROADWAY AT A SAFE DISTANCE TO ALLOW FOR SAFE BRAKING OR AVOIDANCE. THE HIGH BEAM SETTING IS PITIFULLY WEAK IN INTENSITY. I MUST STRAIN TO SEE OUT AT THE DISTANCE NECESSARY TO STOP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS MEANS I MUST TRAVEL WITH HIGH BEAMS ON WHEN FACING ONCOMING TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATES. I HAD TWO PREVIOUS TRUCKS OF THIS SAME BRAND THAT HAD WONDERFUL LIGHTING AND I SURE WISH I HAD THAT LIGHTING ON THIS TRUCK. GM IS DOING THE MOTORING PUBLIC A MAJOR DISSERVICE WITH THIS LIGHTING PACKAGE AND ENDANGERING ANYONE AND ANYTHING THAT MAY BE ON THE ROAD AHEAD OF THEIR TRUCKS! *TR

  18. Exterior lighting, Mar 4, 2015

THE HEAD LIGHTS ON THIS TRUCK ARE OF POOR DESIGN AND ARE VERY WEAK. THE LIGHTS DO NOT ADEQUATELY LIGHT THE ROAD AHEAD OR THE SHOULDERS. THEY WILL BECOME A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR IN CRASHES AND DEATHS UNLESS THEY ARE IMPROVED! I CAN'T BELIEVE THESE HEADLIGHTS WOULD PASS THE MINIMUM STANDARDS FOR ILLUMINATION IF FOLLOW UP TESTING IS DONE IN POOR WEATHER CONDITIONS. *TR

  20. Exterior lighting, Feb 18, 2015

THIS VEHICLE HAS A 2 PHASE(LOW/HIGH BEAM) SINGLE LIGHT THAT IS EXTREMELY WEAK/DIM TO THE POINT WHERE IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT NIGHT. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE EXISTING LIGHTS ARE ACCEPTABLE AND PASSED WHATEVER STANDARD/REGULATION REQUIRED. AT NIGHT, WITH THE LOW BEAMS YOU GET ABOUT 30-50FT OF LIGHT OUTPUT WHICH EQUATES TO LESS THEN A SECOND OF REACTION TIME WHEN DRIVING. THE HIGH BEAMS SIMPLY LIGHTUP ROAD SIGNS TO THE POINT OF BLINDNESS WITH IT REFLECTION BUT DOES NOT LIGHT UP THE ROAD. I TYPICALLY DON'T WRITE UNLESS I FEEL THIS IS COMPLETELY WRONG. GM WON'T ACKNOWLEDGE ANYTHING BUT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS INJURIES AND/OR DEATH DUE DIRECTLY TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM NOW SPENDING ANOTHER $800(ON TOP OF THE $55000) I PAID FOR THIS TRUCK TO GET AFTERMARKET HID LIGHTS. CAN YOU PROVIDE FEEDBACK AS THIS HAS BEEN A CONCERN AMONGST ALL OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE. I CAN'T BELIEVE GM IS SWEEPING THIS ISSUE UNDER THE RUG SORT OF SPEAK. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN REFUNDED ANYWHERE BETWEEN $200-900 BUT THEY MUST SIGN CONFIDENTIALITY FORMS PRIOR TO RELEASE SO SOMETHING IS BEING HIDDEN. (PS-I LIVE IN ONTARIO CANADA...WONT LET ME INPUT CANADIAN RESIDENCE BELOW). *TR

  21. Exterior lighting, Feb 15, 2015

AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE VEHICLE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DO NOT PROVIDE SUFFICIENT ILLUMINATION TO OPERATE IN A SAFE MANNER. THIS LACK OF LIGHTING RESULTS IN AN AVOIDABLY UNSAFE PRACTICE OF OVERDRIVING THE HEADLIGHTS. THE HEADLIGHTS SHOULD ILLUMINATE FAR ENOUGH IN FRONT SO THAT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OVERDRIVE YOUR LIGHTS AT NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR

  22. Exterior lighting, Feb 9, 2015

HEADLIGHTS ON THIS VEHICLE ARE HORRID AND PROVIDE VERY POOR ILLUMINATION. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO SEE AT NIGHT, ESPECIALLY ON COUNTRY ROADS WITH NO STREET LIGHTS. HEADLIGHT DESIGN SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A SAFETY HAZARD. YOU'D THINK AFTER SPENDING $ 60,000 ON A PICKUP TRUCK IT WOULD COME WITH SOME DECENT HEADLIGHTS. NOT THE CASE ON THE GMC SIERRA. *TR

  23. Exterior lighting, Feb 5, 2015

OPERATED TRUCK FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A RURAL AREA AT NIGHT YESTERDAY. LOW BEAMS PROVIDE INADEQUATE LIGHT BRIGHTNESS AND REACH. NO APPROPRIATE LATERAL LIGHTING.
