Recalls and investigations

  1. Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorJul 1, 2021

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.

A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.

Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 18, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Phase II owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 31, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. This recall supersedes NHTSA recall number 20V-736. GM's number for this recall is N202324251.

  2. Seat belts, frontApr 8, 2021

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.

A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

  3. Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorNov 25, 2020

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator.

If the end cap separates from the inflator, the compressed gas will escape and the end cap can be propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the RRAB modules on the left and/or right side, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Note: GM filed a new recall, number 21V-504 that supersedes this recall. All vehicles previously recalled under 20V-736 will now be repaired under the new recall number 21V-504. GM's numbers for this recall are N202309680, N202309681, and N202309682.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, wheel speed sensor/tone ringOct 24, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.

Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

  5. Service brakes, hydraulic, power assist, vacuumSep 6, 2019

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.

As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

  6. Steering, electric power assist systemSep 7, 2018

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. Electric power steering (EPS) assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist.

If EPS assist is lost and then suddenly returns, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. The recall began October 12, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18289.

  7. Air bags, frontalJul 10, 2017

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.

A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

  8. Air bags, frontalSep 8, 2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015-2017 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD, 3500 HD, Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Sierra 2500 HD and 3500 HD, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade and Cadillac Escalade ESV vehicles and 2014-2017 Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500, Trax, Caprice Police Pursuit Vehicle, GMC Sierra 1500, Buick Encore, and 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse, Chevrolet Spark EV and SS vehicles. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. 9. Seat beltsApr 12, 2016

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.

If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.

GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15822.

  1. Service brakes, Jan 22, 2018, crash

I WAS FOLLOWING MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS EXITING THE GAS STATION AND PULLING OUT ONTO ROUTE 149. AS SHE PULLED UP TO ROUTE 149 SHE STOPPED TO CHECK TRAFFIC. I WAS BEHIND HER IN MY 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500, GOING APPROX. 2 MPH. WHEN I HIT THE BRAKES, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE TRUCK KEPT MOVING FORWARD AND I HIT THE REAR OF MY DAUGHTERS CAR, CRACKING THE REAR BUMPER. NO DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK BECAUSE I WAS ONLY GOING A COUPLE MPH, LUCKILY MY DAUGHTER HAD HER FOOT ON THE BREAK OF HER CAR, OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE PUSHED HER RIGHT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE FACT THAT SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE IS WHAT STOPPED MY TRUCK. WE BOTH BACKED UP AND GOT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION, WHEN BACKING UP THE BRAKES WORKED FINE. THERE WASN'T A SPOT TO LEAVE THE TRUCK SO I HAD TO DRIVE 3 MILES BACK TO MY HOUSE. THE BRAKES WORKED PERFECTLY AFTER, NO ISSUES WHAT SO EVER. IT SEEMED LIKE AT THE SLOW SPEED THAT BRAKES DIDN'T HAVE ANY BOOST (OR PRESSURE), THE PEDAL WAS VERY VERY STIFF, IT FELT LIKE IT WAS PUSHING BACK AGAINST ME WHEN I HIT THE REAR OF MY DAUGHTERS CAR. BUT DRIVING HOME EVERYTHING WORKED PERFECT. I'M BRINGING THE TRUCK IN (APPROX. 72K MILES) TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT I'M CONCERNED THE DEALER WILL NOT KNOW WHAT TO FIX AS THE ISSUE SEEMS TO BE INTERMITTENT. THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS INTERSECTION AND I COULD HAVE PUSHED MY DAUGHTER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE RESULT WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MUCH WORSE. SOMETHING SEEMS TO BE SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AND WHEN GOOGLING THIS ISSUE, I FOUND MANY SIMILAR ISSUES/COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE BRAKES.

  2. Service brakes, Dec 18, 2017

TAKATA RECALL WHEN BACKING UP BRAKE PEDAL IS NOT AT ITS NORMAL PRESSURE SEEMS TO BE ALL THE WAY DOWN SO HAVE TO PRESS BRAKE HARDER TO STOP THE TRUCK WHEN I SHIFT TO DRIVE FORWARD SAME THING APPLIES. AFTER TRUCK HAS BEEN OFF FOR SOME TIME PARKED THEN START TO DRIVE BRAKES SEEM TO BE WORKING FINE.

  3. Service brakes, Dec 12, 2017

BRAKES BECAME HARD TO DEPRESS AND ENGAGE WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. ALMOST CRASHED VEHICLE. AFRAID TO DRIVE. BROUGHT TO DEALER. SAID IT WAS BAD BRAKE BOOSTER. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, FOUND OUT SHOULD REPLACE VACUME PUMP, MASTER CYLINDER, HOSE LINE, ETC., SO I DID. 44K MILES, 3 YEAR OLD TRUCK, HAPPENED ON /12/10/17 BROUGHT TO DEALER GARBER GMC IN FLORIDA FOR $1300 REPAIR ON 12/11/2017. NO WARNING SIGNS WHEN THIS HAPPENED. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN BRAKES FAIL WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.

  4. Service brakes, Dec 8, 2017

I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AT WORK (SLOW SPEED) AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK. I KEPT APPLYING MORE AND MORE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT DID NOT STOP THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK HIT THE CURB AND STOPPED, LUCKILY THERE WASN'T A ANOTHER CAR AS I WOULD HAVE HIT IT. IT CAUGHT ME A BIT OFF GUARD AS I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT JUST HAPPENED. I BACKED THE TRUCK UP ABOUT 10 FEET, BRAKES WORKED FINE IN REVERSE, AND PULLED FORWARD BACK INTO THE SPOT. AGAIN, THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK AND I AGAIN I HIT THE CURB. NO DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK, BUT BRAKES DID NOT WORK. IT FELT LIKE THE BRAKES WERE PUSHED BACK AGAINST ME. BRAKE PEDAL NEVER WENT TO THE FLOOR, I PUSHED THE PEDAL AND THERE SEEMED TO BE MORE RESISTANCE THAN NORMAL. IT DIDN'T MATTER HOW MUCH I PUSHED, THE TRUCK KEPT MOVING FORWARD. THIS HAPPENED WITH APPROXIMATELY 78,000 MILES. I WAS LATE FOR A MEETING SO I WENT INTO WORK AND LATER IN THE DAY I HAD A BREAK SO I CHECKED ON THE TRUCK. PULLED OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT AND BACK IN AND BRAKES WORKED BOTH IN REVERSE AND IN FORWARD. SO NOW WHAT TO DO????????? AT WORK I DID A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH AND SAW THIS SIMILAR ISSUE COME UP IN A LOT OF THE SEARCH RESPONSES- AND DECIDED TO LOG IT HERE. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AND VERY DANGEROUS IF I WAS IN A CROWD OR PEOPLE OR AT AN INTERSECTION AND COULDN'T STOP. I CALLED GMC AND THEY SAID THEY NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS- THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE, THEY SAID IF I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN THEY WOULD SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN.

  5. Service brakes, Nov 22, 2017

WE WANT TO REPORT A SAFETY FEATURE IN 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500. WE BOUGHT A VEHICLE BRAND NEW AND IT CURRENTLY HAS ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. ON 11/4/2017 AFTER WE GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE 10, THE BREAK FROM THIS TRUCK STOPPED WORKING, WE HAD A DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS TIME TO MAKE IT STOP, AND WAS LUCKY TO MANAGE TO GET INTO A STORE'S PARKING. WE HAVE TO HAUL IT TO THE LOCAL GMC ON MONDAY AND FOUND OUT THE BREAK PUMP WAS BAD. THIS PROBLEM COULD CAUSE A DEADLY ACCIDENT IF WE WERE STILL IN THE FREEWAY. WE CALLED GMC TO REPORT THE PROBLEM AND THEY SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THIS PROBLEM IS SERIOUS AND NEED TO BE ADDRESSED.

  6. Service brakes, Oct 19, 2017

OUT OF NO WHERE, I HAD TO USE EXTREME PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL TO STOP THE TRUCK. THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SOUND ROUGH. I TURNED THE TRUCK ON AND OFF HOPING THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IT DIDN'T, I TOOK IT INTO MY GMC DEALER TO FIND OUT THAT THE VACUUM PUMP HAS FAILED FOR THE BRAKES. I DID MY RESEARCH ONLINE AND NOTICED MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. I WAS SURPRISED THERE ISN'T A RECALL ON 2014-2016 GM VEHICLES. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND I'D HATE SOMEONE'S BRAKES FAILING AT HIGH SPEED AND SOMEONE GETS HURT.

  7. Service brakes, Sep 5, 2017

2015 GMC SIERRA - BRAKING BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT AT IDLE SPEED WHETHER MOVING FORWARD OR REVERSE. BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. VEHICLE WILL MOVE A FEW FEET UNTIL COMPLETELY STOPPED EVEN WITH FORCEFUL PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. APPEARS TO LOSE ALL VACUUM/POWER BRAKING ABILITY.

  8. Service brakes, Aug 21, 2017

AT 47,000 MILES. I NOTICED A SLIGHT VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END WHILE BRAKING ON THE HIGHWAY. OVER THE NEXT 2 WEEKS THE VIBRATION BECAME CONSIDERABLE WORSE. IT FELT AS THOUGH THE ROTORS BECAME WARPED WHICH I HAVE EXPERIENCED DURING VEHICLE TESTING AT PREVIOUS EMPLOYMENTS. I REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS. DURING REMOVAL OF THE OLD BRAKES, I QUICKLY NOTICED THAT 1 OF THE 4 PADS WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED THROUGH THE BACKING PLATE. BRAKE PAD CONTACT AREA WITH THE ROTOR WAS FINE, BUT THE BACKING PLATE HAD HOLES IN IT FROM THE LEVEL OF CORROSION. OTHER 3 BRAKE PADS WERE FINE, VERY MINOR SURFACE CORROSION AT WORST. SINCE REPLACING MY BRAKES THE VIBRATION HAS NEVER REPEATED.

  9. Service brakes, Aug 9, 2017

BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT DEPRESS EASILY AT LOW SPEEDS. EXTREAM EFFORT IS REQUIRED TO PUSH BRAKE PEDAL ENOUGH TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP.

  10. Air bags, Seat belts, Service brakes, Aug 7, 2017

TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ENSURE THAT THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER (COVERT CHEVROLET BUICK GMC BASTROP, 702 TX-71, BASTROP, TX 78602, (512) 303-2311) FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V339000 (STEERING, SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V651000 (AIR BAGS, SEAT BELTS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,004. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

  11. Service brakes, Jun 28, 2017

I WAS IN A PARKING LOT (THANKFULLY) WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD TO PUSH, AND THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP IMMEDIATELY. THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUES FOR THIS PROBLEM PIT5405B.

  12. Service brakes, Apr 23, 2017

BACKING BOAT DOWN BOAT RAMP (NOT A STEEP RAMP) IN TRAILER MODE, BRAKING DID NOT STOP VEHICLE. PUMPED PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, USED LOTS OF FORCE ON PEDAL. BECAUSE OF SLOW SPEED AND INCREASED EFFORT, THE VEHICLE DID STOP. PULLED FORWARD AND REPEATED AT SLOWER REVERSE SPEED AND SAME POOR BRAKING. DRY CONDITIONS, BRAKES DRY, DID NOT PUT REAR WHEELS IN WATER. HAVE NOT HAD A REPEATED EVENT. DEALER INDICATED THAT SERVICE BULLETIN PIT5361B APPLIES, BUT BECAUSE OF MILEAGE IT IS NOT WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL.

  13. Service brakes, Mar 19, 2017

BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TOWING A 3500 POUND BOAT. VACUUM BOOSTER SYSTEM FAILURE. I WAS MOVING SLOWLY THROUGH A PARKING LOT PULLING MY BOAT, WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES THE TRUCK DID NOT STOP. THE BRAKE PEDAL BOTTOMED OUT AND THE TRUCK AND TRAILER CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD SLOWLY

  14. Steering, Service brakes, Feb 9, 2017, crash

ON 2/5/2017 WHILE TURNING UNTO MY STREET THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND I COULD NOT MOVE MY TRUCK FROM HITTING A BLOCK WALL. I ALSO TRIED BREAKING BUT THE CAR DID NOT STOP IN TIME TO NOT HIT THE WALL. I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY (20 MPH) BECAUSE I WAS IN A NEIGHBORHOOD AND ME AND MY FAMILY WERE ALL WEARING SEATBELTS SO NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. AND I ALSO BENT THE STEERING WHEEL IN HALF TRYING TO MOVE IT. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE OF THE STEERING WHEEL ITSELF AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT CALIBER COLLISIONS FOR THE REPAIRS. I WENT TO THE GM DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD RUN DIAGNOSTICS AFTER THE TRUCK COMES OUT OF THE SHOP.

  15. Service brakes, Mar 31, 2016

I HAVE BEEN HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE TRAILER BRAKE CONTROLLER ON MY K3500 TRUCK. RECENTLY THE MESSAGE "CHECK TRAILER WIRING" HAS BEEN COMING ON FREQUENTLY. AT THE SAME TIME, THE BRAKING CONTROLLER SHUTS OFF POWER TO THE TRAILER BRAKES. THIS HAS RESULTED IN A VERY UNSAFE CONDITION, ESPECIALLY WITH A TRAILER THAT WEIGHS OVER 14,000 POUNDS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 6 MONTHS NOW. REPEATED ATTEMPTS BY BOTH THE GMC DEALER AND THE TRAILER DEALER HAVE FAILED TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD, BY THE DEALER, THAT THE PROBLEM STARTED APPROXIMATELY WITH THE 2014 MODELS. THE BRAKE CONTROLLER HAS BEEN UPGRADED, AND MADE MUCH MORE SENSITIVE TO SLIGHT DEVIATIONS IN THE TRAILER SYSTEM, CAUSING THE CONTROLLER TO "SHUT OFF" SO TO SPEAK. WHILE THIS WOULDN'T BE A BIG ISSUE NORMALLY, WHEN IT SHUTS OFF, YOU LOSE ALL BRAKING ABILITY TO THE TRAILER RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE CONDITION. THERE IS NO WAY TO OVERRIDE THIS AND ACTIVATE THE BRAKES. WHAT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING IS A VERY SLIGHT DEVIATION IN THE RESISTANCE IN THE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM (BY 1 OHM OR LESS) AND THAT CAUSES THE "SHUTDOWN" IN THE CONTROLLER. TRAILER BRAKES WOULD WORK, IF THEY COULD GET POWER. BUT, THE CONTROLLER HAS SHUT DOWN, SO NO POWER. MYSELF (AND THE TRAILER SHOP) HAVE BEEN CHECKING THE INTERNET AND FINDING THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IT APPEARS TO BE HAPPENING WITH ALL THE BIG THREE MANUFACTURER TRUCKS, SINCE ABOUT 2014. PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMING UP WITH SOME RATHER "CREATIVE" WAYS AROUND THIS, IN SOME CASES ELIMINATING THE ORIGINAL SYSTEM ENTIRELY. THIS IS JUST NOT ACCEPTABLE. AGAIN, THIS "NEW SYSTEM THE BIG THREE ARE PUTTING IN IS FAR WORSE THAT THE OLD, SIMPLY BECAUSE IT HAS NO ROOM FOR FORGIVENESS IN A TRAILER SYSTEM THAT MIGHT WORK OTHERWISE, BUT HAS A SLIGHT DEVIATION IN WHAT IS CONSIDERED "ACCEPTABLE" TO THE CONTROLLER. AT THE VERY LEAST, THERE SHOULD BE A FAIL SAFE METHOD.

  16. Steering, Service brakes, Hydraulic, Power train, Exterior lighting, Structure, Seats, Engine, Feb 24, 2015

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DESCENDING DOWN HILL AT NIGHT, THE LOW BEAM HEAD LIGHT PROVIDED POOR VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5. UPDATED 03/30/15*LJ UPDATED 06/23/2015*JS

  17. Steering, Service brakes, Jul 18, 2014

WHILE DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING HOSE CAME OFF CAUSING A SUDDEN LOSE OF FLUID RESULTING IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. ALTHOUGH A RECALL/BULLETIN WAS TO BE ISSUED ON THIS PER THE DEALER (I CAN NOT FIND EVIDENCE OF A RECALL FOR THIS), MY VEHICLE WAS BUILT AFTER THE INCIDENT WAS RECOGNIZED AND THOUGHT TO BE CORRECTED. SUDDEN LOSE OF POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES IN A VEHICLE THIS SIZE WHILE PULLING A LARGE TRAILER COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. *TR
