Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorJul 1, 2021
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator, or the inflator sidewall may rupture.
A separated inflator end cap or inflator rupture can allow compressed gas to escape, resulting in the end cap or other components being propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or crash.
Dealers will replace the left and right side RRAB modules, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters informing owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 18, 2021. Owners will receive a second notice when the remedy is available. Phase I owner notification letters were mailed on May 5, 2022. Phase II owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on May 31, 2022. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. This recall supersedes NHTSA recall number 20V-736. GM's number for this recall is N202324251.

Seat belts, frontApr 8, 2021
General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2015-2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, and 2014-2015 GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles that may have received an incorrect replacement tensioner cable assembly as part of a previous recall remedy or a subsequent repair. The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver seat belt lap pretensioner, free of charge. The recall began on May 5, 2021. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N212330040.

Air bags, side/window, curtain, inflatorNov 25, 2020
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2016 GMC Sierra 1500 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 trucks. The roof-rail air bag (RRAB) inflator end cap may detach from the inflator.
If the end cap separates from the inflator, the compressed gas will escape and the end cap can be propelled into the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the RRAB modules on the left and/or right side, free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were mailed on December 22, 2020. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267 or Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. Note: GM filed a new recall, number 21V-504 that supersedes this recall. All vehicles previously recalled under 20V-736 will now be repaired under the new recall number 21V-504. GM's numbers for this recall are N202309680, N202309681, and N202309682.

Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, wheel speed sensor/tone ringOct 24, 2019
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2020 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, and GMC Yukon, and 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles equipped with a 5.3-liter engine, a 3.08-ratio rear axle and four-wheel drive. If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the EBCM, free of charge. The recall began December 11, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192261050.

Service brakes, hydraulic, power assist, vacuumSep 6, 2019
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015-2017 Cadillac Escalade, 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, 2015-2018 Chevrolet Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Yukon vehicles. The amount of vacuum created by the vacuum pump may decrease over time.
As the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the Electronic Brake Control Module, free of charge. The recall began October 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-630-2438, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is N192268490.

Steering, electric power assist systemSep 7, 2018
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. Electric power steering (EPS) assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist.
If EPS assist is lost and then suddenly returns, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. The recall began October 12, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18289.

Air bags, frontalJul 10, 2017
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

Seat beltsApr 12, 2016
General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.
If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15822.

BRAKE FAILURE AT PARKING LOT SPEED. WHILE REVERSING IN TRUCK, BRAKES BECAME HARD AND FAILED. ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE.
Service brakes, Apr 28, 2019
HARD PEDAL, EXTREMELY POOR BRAKING RESPONSE WHILE SLOWING AND DURING PARKING OF VEHICLE, ESPECIALLY WHEN MULTIPLE PEDAL PUMPS ARE REQUIRED. PROGRESSIVELY WORSENING OVER PAST 6 MONTHS. I REPLACED VACUUM BOOST PUMP AND PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED.
Service brakes, Apr 25, 2019
AT LOW IDLE THE BRAKING BECOME VERY STIFF AND EXTREME PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDDLE IS NEED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. HANK GRAFF OF DURAND MI INDICATED IT IS DUE TO A FAILED BRAKE ASSIST VACUUM PUMP. THE SERVICE REP. ALSO EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE WHEN THEY PULLED THE VEHICLE INTO THE REPAIR BAY. AS THE OWNER, I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS BRAKING ISSUE MULTIPLE TIMES.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE ON THE SHOULDER AND WAS ABLE TO PARK IN A REST AREA TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MCGOVERN BUICK GMC (LOCATED AT 2806, 150 TURNPIKE RD, WESTBOROUGH, MA 01581, (508) 439-4362) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VACUUM BRAKE PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT MY BRAKES FAILED TO STOP MY TRUCK TWICE. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY STIFF, LIKE IT WAS A MANUAL BRAKE AND NOT POWER. HAD TO DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO GET MY TRUCK TO STOP. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL RETURNED TO NORMAL.
Service brakes, Apr 22, 2019
AT FIRST THE ISSUE STARTED AS I WAS PARKING IN REVERSE, PRESSED THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK DID NOT WANT TO STOP UNTIL I PUT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. THEN PULLED FORWARD TO CHECK AND IT DID THE SAME THING SO I PARKED THE TRUCK AND LEFT IT OVERNIGHT. IT WORKED FINE IN THE MORNING AND THE NEXT FEW DAYS. THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN AFTER ABOUT A FIVE HOUR DRIVE HOME FROM WORK I EXITED THE FREEWAY EXIT 99 IN TUMWATER THE BRAKES GOT REALLY STIFF AND WAS NOT SLOWING QUICK ENOUGH FOR THE STOP SIGN COMING UP, I SLOWED TO ABOUT 35MPH THEN REALIZED IT WASN'T GONNA STOP SO I PRESSED THE BRAKES AS HARD I COULD SWERVING JUST PAST THE STOP SIGN UNTIL IT STOPPED. PRECEDED SLOWLY GOT SOME FUEL AND STILL HAD ABOUT ANOTHER HOUR DRIVE HOME AND NOW THE BRAKES WAS REALLY STIFF AND TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP UNLESS I PUT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. SO I GOT BACK ON THE FREEWAY GOING ONLY ABOUT 55 MPH INCREASING MY STOPPING DISTANCE CRAWLING ALL THE WAY HOME HAVING PRESS THE BRAKES EXTREMELY HARD WHEN I NEEDED TO STOP FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS. NOW I'M AFRAID TO DRIVE THE TRUCK ANYWHERE WITHOUT FEARING OF THE BRAKES NOT WORKING AT ALL COMPLETELY. IT

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT STRUCK A PARKED VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,499.
Service brakes, Apr 12, 2019
BRAKES FAILED. I WAS BACKING INTO MY GARAGE AND THE PEDAL BECAME REALLY HARD TO PUSH. I ALMOST DID NOT GET STOPPED BEFORE I HIT THE WALL.
Service brakes, Apr 9, 2019, crash
YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHILE BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPOT, MY BRAKES BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. THE PEDAL WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS AND WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE RESULT WAS THE VEHICLE ROLLING DOWN AN INCLINED PARKING LOT AND HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. NORMAL BRAKING HAD RESUMED WHEN LEAVING THE ACCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME FOR THE BRAKES TO BECOME UNRESPONSIVE AT LOW SPEEDS. APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH AGO THE SAME SITUATION HAPPENED DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT. BRAKES BECAME EXTREMELY FIRM AND UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. NO DAMAGE RESULTED FROM THAT INCIDENT. AFTER READING SEVERAL MESSAGE BOARDS, IT APPEARS TO BE A WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT RESULTS IN REPLACEMENT OF MULTIPLE POWER BRAKING COMPONENTS. I CURRENTLY FEEL EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT MY BRAKES DID NOT FAIL 5 MINUTES EARLIER WHILE PICKING UP MY CHILD FROM SCHOOL.
Service brakes, Apr 4, 2019
BRAKES FAILED TO RESER AT LOW SPEEDS, RESULTING IN NEAR COLLISION. BRAKE PEDAL BECAME STIFF AND UNRESPONSIVE. HAS ALSO HAPPENED PREVIOUSLY, WAS TOLD BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE IS THE CAUSE. WAS NOTIFIED THIS DOES NOT QUALIFY UNDER VEHICLE WARRANTY DESPITE READING OF MULTIPLE REPORTS OF FAILURE, TECHNICAL BULLETIN RELEASE, AND IMMEDIATE SAFETY ISSUES.
Service brakes, Apr 1, 2019
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 1-10 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

BACKING UP THE TRUCK THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME HARD AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP LIKE I LOST POWER I ALMOST HIT MY DOG AND THE GARAGE IT WAS VERY SCARY
Service brakes, Mar 28, 2019
VEHICLE'S BRAKES BECOME STIFF AT LOW RPM CAUSING DIFFICULTIES STOPPING.
Service brakes, Mar 27, 2019
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS SLOW DRIVING IN PARKING LOTS I HAVE LOST POWER ASSIST BRAKING AND ALMOST HIT A CAR PARKED IN THE SPOT IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVE READ ONLINE ABOUT THE ISSUE WITH THE BRAKE VACUUM PUMP AND AM THINKING THAT IS MY ISSUE. MY BRAKE PEDAL AFTER A FEW PUMPS WILL GET SUPER STIFF. ON EVERY OCCASION THAT THIS HAPPENED IT WAS SLOW MOVING ADJUSTING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND HAD PUMPED THE BRAKES SEVERAL TIMES. THE PEDAL THEN BECOMES STILL AND PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT GET THE BRAKING POWER AS EXPECTED.
Service brakes, Mar 26, 2019
WHILE DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS IF YOU TAP THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WON'T DEPRESS AND THE TRUCK WILL KEEP ROLLING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I'M TRYING TO PARK USUALLY. I WAS BACKING IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IT DIDN'T STOP AFTER TAPING THE BRAKE PEDAL 3 TIMES. I HIT THE TELEPHONE POLE WITH REAR BUMPER WHICH BENT THE BODY OF THE LEFT REAR FENDER ENOUGH TO CAUSE THE TAILGATE TO NOT OPEN. MY GMC DEALER REPLACED THE FAULTY BOOSTER PUMP FOR $1029.35 AND I HAD TO RENT A CAR FOR 2 DAYS.
Service brakes, Mar 21, 2019
BRAKE VACUUM PUMP BOOSTER. FIRST STARTED WHEN DRIVING UNDER 5 MPH. THE BRAKES WERE HARD TO PUSH DOWN AND WOULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK PROPERLY. DID THIS FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS. THEN DRIVING GETTING OFF THE INTERSTATE AND APPLIED BRAKES GOING 60 MPH THE BRAKES WOULD NOT WORK. COULD BARLEY STOP. SAME ISSUE HAS WHEN DRIVING SLOW. NOW THE BRAKES WILL NOT WORK AT ANY SPEED. THEY TRUCK IS UNDRIVABLE UNTIL IT GETS FIXED.
Service brakes, Mar 12, 2019
AT LOW SPEED AND ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS, THE BRAKES HAVE SEEMED TO LOSE POWER AND IT REQUIRED A LOT OF BRAKE PRESSURE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE, MY GARAGE, ETC. IT HAD BEEN HAPPENING INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE PAST MONTH OR SO. WENT IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE VACUUM PUMP AT A COST OF APPROX $600.
Service brakes, Mar 12, 2019
VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE TRUCK WHILE GOING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED 5 TO 10 MPH. HAD TO FORCEFULLY APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO GET IT TO STOP STILL REQUIRED MORE STOPPING DISTANCE. BRAKES DID NOT BECOME FULLY FUNCTIONAL UNTIL AFTER PLACING THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND SHUTTING THE VEHICLE DOWN WAITING FOR APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND BRAKE WERE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THIS EVENT OCCURED AT APPROXIMATELY 46,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. FOLLOWING DAY BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO THE LOCAL GMC DEALER AND VERIFIED THAT THE TRUCK HAS A BRAKING PROBLEM FOUND A LEAKING BRAKE BOOSTER AND MASTER CYLINDER.
Service brakes, Mar 9, 2019
VACUUM PUMP FAILED AT 58000 MILES. LOST BRAKE ASSIST AT PARKING LOT SPEEDS. COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT.
Service brakes, Mar 5, 2019
THE BRAKES AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED (1-10 MPH) PARTIALLY GIVES OUT WHICH PROLONGS THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE ABS KICKS IN BUT FOR NO REASON. MUST STRONGLY PUSH DOWN ON THE PEDAL TO GET VEHICLE TO STOP, WHICH STILL REQUIRES ADDITIONAL STOPPING DISTANCE. HAS OCCURRED SPORADICALLY FROM MID-2018 TO MARCH 2019. NO RESOLUTION THROUGH DEALERSHIP.
Service brakes, Feb 28, 2019, crash
BRAKES COMPLETELY FAILED. REPLACED BRAKES ON ALL 4 WHEELS, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THEN REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND STILL NO BRAKES. MY FENCE POLE AND MAILBOX STOPPED MY VEHICLE.
