General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2019-2020 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks. The battery positive (B+) cable rings may have been manufactured with excessive glue, potentially causing an intermittent electrical connection between the B+ cable and alternator.
An intermittent electrical connection between the B+ battery cable and the alternator could cause the vehicle to stall, increasing the risk of a crash. The intermittent connection could also lead to electrical arcing, which could generate sufficient heat to damage surrounding material, increasing the risk of a fire.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect for the presence of glue or other contamination at the B+ cable attachment to the alternator and clean the connection and reattach the B+ cable connection, as necessary. If arcing has damaged the cable, nut, or alternator, the dealer will replace the damaged components. All services will be performed free of charge. Engine, Oct 29, 2025
At approximately 61,500 miles, the engine malfunctioned while cruising on a 4-lane highway at 45 MPH. The problem was diagnosed by an independent mechanic as a crankshaft rod bearing failure. This failure happened despite all recommended maintenance being performed with specified parts. This failure caused a safety concern as the vehicle was in motion at the time of the failure, increasing the potential for a collision due to the vehicle becoming disabled on a highway. The engine was replaced at a cost of approximately $13,500 parts and labor. Vehicle was out of service for two months due to a waiting list on replacement L87 engines.
Engine, Oct 29, 2025
Defective out cool oil return line on v8 6.2L engine. Causing the truck to lose oil immediately due to being under pressure. Caused complete engine failure and required a new engine. That took 4-5 months to complete. Located in park city Utah a cold weather location. Not part of the 2019 recall for the same failure that gmc did in Canada and Alaska for a defective cool oil return line. When I called gmc to talk about it they referenced my vin and said it had no open issues and that they couldn’t talk about it.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Back over prevention, Oct 28, 2025
While towing a trailer on Highway 77 in northern Wisconsin, my 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 experienced a sudden engine failure. The dashboard lit up with alerts for the engine, transmission, ABS, and traction control. I safely pulled over in a 55 mph zone with narrow shoulders and heavy truck traffic due to nearby road construction. The truck lost all power, and I had to block the driving lane to transfer the trailer to another vehicle, creating a hazardous situation. There were no prior warnings or issues. The truck had regular service at independent shops, and I had checked and topped off the oil that morning. Lahti Towing & Service recovered the vehicle, changed the oil (no metal shavings), and replaced the camshaft sensor, but the truck still wouldn’t start. They then towed it to Rhinelander GMC, where a broken timing chain was diagnosed, requiring a full engine replacement. The vehicle is currently at Rhinelander GMC and available for inspection. I have photos of the dashboard alerts and data from the GM app documenting the incident.
Engine, Oct 28, 2025
My engine has a loud knocking/ticking noise. I have had one mechanic look at it. He has me taking my truck to a dealership this week. He believes the known issue with GMC's 6.2 engine is taking place in the engine in my 2019. From a verbal conversation with the dealership, they believe the same. I was advised to complete this form ASAP.
Engine, Oct 24, 2025
Pulled up to a stop sign, the engine shutoff and would not restart. Had the vehicle towed to the dealership. Received a call that the engine will need to be replaced. The code is a P0016. Same code as the other 6.2 L87 GM motors, but is not currently under the recall. They found no metal in the oil pan and the engine only has compression on cylinders 2 & 8. Make no mechanical sense. Before this, I had no engine lights, I had no oil burning, I had no smell of oil and the truck ran fine. No loss of power or any other issues.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that occasionally, while driving approximately 57 MPH, the vehicle violently shuddered, causing the steering wheel to become difficult to turn in either direction. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was determined that the driver’s and passenger’s side front tires needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed; however, the cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,000.

I have a loss of power in the motor with engine codes diagnosed by the dealership of P0016, P0017. These are the same codes and symptoms that are included in the 2021 through 2024L 87 6.2 L motor recall. My motor is a 2019 edition but having the exact same issues. I know these are the same motors and is having the same issue. started having loss of power in May 2024 with engine codes coming in September 2025.
Electrical system, Back over prevention, Oct 9, 2025
My truck has a blue screen that appears randomly on occasion that states service rear view system. This is a major safety concern. And after reading online it is a very common occurrence on 2019-2025 gm pickups. It needs to be recalled and a for sure fix done to prevent from backing into someone or something. I have small children and my biggest fear is running them over while playing in the yard and I rely very much on my rear view/360 camera to make sure this doesn’t happen even after double and triple checking they are no where near danger before stepping in my vehicle.
Engine, Oct 6, 2025
Engine developed a clicking sound. Took to dealership and was diagnosed with rod and bearing damage requiring an engine replacement. Was fortunate to have inspected before engine failure while driving. No warning before the failure. I believe there is a known issue with the 6.2 L engines.

The contact stated that while in the process of picking up the vehicle, the dealer informed the contact that the vehicle had failed to start. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced and provided an estimate for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Action Number: PE25001(Engine, Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.
Engine, Sep 30, 2025
As I was turning left from a county road to a highway my truck died on me. I was able to push it out of the road with the help of two other motorist. This is the second time in 4 months were my truck broke down due to engine failure. I had the motor repaired the first week in June 2025 for a similar instance. My truck is at the dealership right now awaiting repair because GM will not recognize that my 2019 6.2 L87 engine has the same known defects as other 2019 6.2 L87. This is a safety issue which GM refuses to acknowledge on my vehicle.

One of the lifters collapsed resulting in catastrophic engine damage
Engine, Sep 16, 2025
Our GMC engine with VIN# above needs to be recalled due to the failed Active Fuel Management (AFM) lifter which resulted in misfire’s & engine failure. GMC's defective lifters create a safety concern due to potential engine stalling and power loss while driving, which can lead to dangerous traffic accidents. While GM has implemented extended component coverage for some issues and issued a recall for a related problem with L87 V8 engines, they have not with our GMC Sierra with the VIN# listed above, which has the same safety concern. Our GMC is currently at the dealership and we are determining next steps. Thankfully, my husband pulled over on the side of the road and turned the vehicle off before complete power loss. There was not much notification with the engine light prior to the incident. This could have ended very badly with my husband being injured or even worse my three children also being injured.

Vehicle (2019 GMC Sierra SLT X31!Crew Cab 6.2 l gas engine) stopped running while driving down the road (Wednesday [XXX]. Tried to start truck - would crank over quickly but failed to start ( crank no start with no check engine light.) tried several times same result. Started after about 5-10 minutes and was displaying low fuel indicator even though we knew it had approximately 1/2 tank. We immediately put gas in it and it took approximately 1/2 tank to fill. Still no check engine light and confirmed no stored codes via onstar report. Drove the truck around for may 1hr and check engine light came on but was still running and did not stop running like it did earlier. On star reported ECM SYSTEM CODE P129F ( Fuel pump or fuel pump power control module). Long story short, put truck in independent repair shop I use. They diagnosed it was a defective fuel pump located in fuel tank. They told me GM technical support recommended to replace the fuel pump and fuel pump power and control module at a cost of ~$1325.00. It is my opinion this is a safety hazard and very similar if not exactly the same failure symptoms / modes as others have already reported. I requested to keep the failed parts and still have them in my possession. Please review and let me know if you need or want additional information . Power train, Aug 23, 2025
My truck is currently experiencing shuddering when driving. This happens at random times but is becoming more frequent. I have taken it into service shops on numerous occasions, and they have not been able to identify the cause due to my truck not exhibiting these conditions when they are diagnosing it. I have run out of funds to continually pay for diagnostic fees, so I have had to let it go until recently. Now it shudders, shifts very harshly, rpms fluctuate continuously, knocking noise when driving, and in the mornings when I first leave for work, my truck will not shift out of first without revving high in rpms. I took it to a mechanic and was told that it was my torque converter, which has now damaged my transmission. All of which I have to pay for out of pocket. These symptoms started when my vehicle was still under warranty (around 30,000 miles). I even flushed the transmission, and it did not help. This is my daily driving truck, and I use it to go to work and transport my 3 young children around. Most of our driving is done on the highway at high speeds (70 mph). When my truck shudders or shifts harshly, I feel that it is going to cause me to lose control or wreck, putting not only my life but my children's lives in danger. I have not consulted a lawyer, as I do not have enough money to do so. I have not had the manufacturer look at it, because when I called about it, they told me I would have to pay for all service fees since it is out of warranty. The only warning lamps I get is when it goes into limp mode (which is at least once or twice a month) and by the time I used to get it to a mechanic, the light was off and they said there is nothing they could do about it. All of this has been happening to some degree since it was around 30,000 miles and only getting worse. The fact that I have put over $20,000 into this (not including my monthly payments of $990) and now have to replace the transmission & torque converter is ridiculous.
Parking brake, Engine, Aug 22, 2025
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving on three occasions and stopped, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message to "Check Parking Brake" was displayed. The contact engaged and disengaged the parking brake. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the lifers and cam shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 74,000.
Engine, Aug 22, 2025
Engine failure; according to GM Mechanics, the lifters failed and this resulted in a broken push rod. Vehicle is now waiting for a new engine; $8,882.00 out of pocket from owner, because current recall does not include the 2019 or 2020; only the 2021 and newer of the same enginee, with the same exact failures. Vehicle has under 75,000 miles and has been serviced for oil change and engine maintenance at GM dealership since purchased. Several different mechanics, on with over 40 years of GM Engine experience, have evaluated the engine all deeming the same failure. Dealership confirms that there is a 6 to 8 week lead time for the new engine because, quote, "there are so many being replaced for the existing recall". I received no warning from the vehicle systems, no information from the local GM dealership or any other communication that my vehicle was at risk for this failure. I am without a vehicle for likely 2 months and will be 'out of pocket' almost $9,000.00 when this is done. This is my second Sierra Denali 1500 in the past 10 years, and my >10th GM vehicle to own, and for the 'Premium Pick-up Truck' on the market, I have always expected the finest quality and service, and this situation changes everything.
Power train, Aug 20, 2025
I bought my 2019 GMC Sierra in August of 2019. It had 3000 miles when I bought it. It now has 59000 miles on it and is in the shop today for transmission repair. The authorized dealer has flushed the transmission and I am waiting for a call back. The flush will be in the $500+ range and they charge a $165 diagnostic fee also. The transmission shudders, knocks and grabs when I accelerate. It feels like I have been rear ended. It also leaps from a complete stop. It doesn't accelerate smoothly. I feel this is a dangerous situation. I have called GMC Customer Service to complain and they have escalated to someone who is going to call me back in 24-48 hours.
