My camshaft failed only 1.8 years into having my brand new truck. GMC dealership repaired it so not sure if they have the part. My truck wouldn’t drive right causing everyone to be at risk. No warnings at all! I take very good care of my truck and the moment a light comes on I get it investigated. This repair was over 15000$ out of my pocket and they had to replace the engine entirely.
Service brakes, Engine, Apr 30, 2025
Below 10,000 miles my truck had the master brake cylinder to put which they repaired under warranty. At about 89,000 miles the engine went out stating a misfire on cylinder 2. After talking with GM the vehicle needed all the rods and cam shaft replaced which was almost an $11k repair of which I had to pay almost $5k. The truck still has sporadic shakes while at idle. Many other owners have complained of the same issues. It’s hard to understand that a new truck would have so many issues. The truck was also sold without the chip to heat the seats or the heated steering wheel. These were down afterwards one of them about a year after purchase. We feel GMC should have paid for this repair given all their engine issues. They changed the warranty from 100k miles to 60k miles because they knew these engines have major issues.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 29, 2025
Truck was traveling through Atlanta when engine shut off and was not responsive. Was able to get truck off the interstate (I285 ramp to I75). Truck would not turn over. Pushed the ONstar button, they stated they couldn't diagnose the truck. They called a wrecker and got truck to a local GMC dealer(Capitol GMC). Truck was approx. 90 mile away from home. Dealer called on Monday 4/21 and stated that the engine was locked up and would need a new engine.

Hello, I wish to report this injury / incident with the failure of the power running boards on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Limited. There are no warning Lamps on the vehicle. The truck is regularly serviced and inspected. The truck recently had a multi-point inspection at the dealer. The power running boards started to come out after I opened my door, as I stepped down, the steps retracted and went back in causing me to fall hard on the ground and smash my knees. Driver and passenger sides are now acting up, even with the truck parked and locked, passenger side wants to go in and out on its own and sometimes extends to the tire. As I researched this problem, I found out that others have had similar issues with the same vehicles that have these power running boards. I removed the fuse now to prevent further injuries.
Engine, Apr 28, 2025
Coolant Control Valve malfunction causing fan to go on high. After several starts, engine light goes away but comes back sporadically. Safety issue is that when the light comes on it reduces the engine acceleration mid-drive. Coolant temp is normal but control valve is causing fan to turn on and reducing the engine acceleration.
Engine, Apr 26, 2025
The engine on my 22 Sierra began knocking at 23,000 miles . The engine i have is a 6.2. It was already scheduled for a front grill recall at the dealer and I had concerns for the knocking issues. I had no lights on the dash or a performance issue at the time. The dealer said they heard the knocking and wanted to take the oil filter off to confirm engine failure. The found metal shavings in the filter and it needed a new engine. They said if I kept driving it the engine would have locked up . Luckily I cought it in time and avoided an accident on the highway. This is a huge safety issue.

Main bearing failure while driving. Had to replace the engine.
Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 25, 2025
While I was driving on highway, engine shut down and wouldn't restart. I needed to be towed.
Engine, Apr 25, 2025
I had taken my vehicle to the dealership for a front grill assembly recall by the end of the day they called me and said I needed to leave my truck at the dealership because of a coolant control valve and they don't recommend me driving it. They told me they would get me a rental car but we're not able to get me one until 11 days after my vehicle was in the shop. I told them I needed a truck for work but was told they could only offer up to 44 dollars a day and I'd have to take a vehicle that was given to me or pay out of my own pocket to rent my own. I had the case escalated but have yet to hear anything back from GMC if they have even recieved the part or what is going on with this backorder part! From what I've been seeing and reading this is obviously an ongoing thing with GMC they have known about this coolant control valve for years now but instead of producing them so they are no longer on backorder they continue to produce plenty of new vehicles to throw on the sales lot. I am out of thousands of dollars because I don't have a truck and only 2 weeks into this mess with GMC. The vehicle is paid off and I continue to wander when a part or gmc will give me a better option. So I can continue with my business.
Forward collision avoidance, Apr 25, 2025
The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. While utilizing Super Cruise on the interstate in stop and go traffic conditions, the vehicle will come to a complete halt and jerk (as though you I slammed on the breaks). This has happened approximately 4 times and each time, driving conditions were good and during hours of daylight. The halt is very violent and causes the vehicle behind me to slam on their breaks. The latest instance occurred on Tuesday May 29, 2025 and forced the vehicle behind me to swerve off of the road. The emergency breaking warning does not sound nor is there a reason for it to do so as it has happened when the vehicle in front of me is moving with traffic and has not slowed down or applied breaks. The super cruise system also does not disengage or say that the road information is unavailable. The vehicle simply comes to an abrupt halt, to the point where if things are in the seats they will fly forward and then the system behaves as though nothing has happened. Traveling speeds vary between 10-20 mph when it malfunctions. The problem has not been reproduced and it shouldn't because it is a serious safety hazard for the driver and other commuters on the road. I was told a module software update would fix the issue however that did not. There were no warning lights that occurred prior to any of the instances.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V060000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the chrome front grille deflectors needed to be replaced. The dealer confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Power train, Engine, Apr 24, 2025
While stopped at a light at a busy intersection the truck wouldn’t drive. There were no prior indications to there be an issue, no noises, no check engine lights. The intersection is a multiple lane route with high speed and traffic with rear end collision possible. The truck was determined to have a blown motor.
Structure, Apr 24, 2025
The grill piece that is recalled flew off while I was driving on the highway on March 14th. I called the dealership that day to get my truck in but could not be seen until April 21st. After having the vehicle at the dealership they said the part to replace is backorder with no ETA of when it will be available.

On [XXX] while driving 80mph on Westbound [XXX] , just West of the [XXX] exit, my engine simply quit. I was able to navigate it to the side of the highway to avoid traffic. However I could not restart the engine or subsequently get it out of Park gear. I got a notice "Conditions Not Correct for Shift." I was forced to use Onstar to get the truck towed back to the original dealership, Quebedeaux Buick/GMC in Tucson, Arizona. The next day, Monday, I went to the dealership to find out what happened to my truck. They said they would call me with results. They never did. The next day, Tuesday, I still hadn't received a call. I returned to the dealership to ask what had happened. They informed me the engine had thrown a bearing and it would need a total engine replacement. It would take 1-2 months. I'm now on day 4 of not having a vehicle, I've called the dealership every day to try to get a loaner vehicle, and they keep telling me they're working on it. The truck only has 36k miles on it and is still covered by warranty, but I feel like I'm getting the runaround from both the dealership and customer service. I still do not have a loaner vehicle. The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost power. The engine failure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the vehicle. The contact turned the vehicle off, exited the vehicle, and added oil to the engine. The vehicle was towed to dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
Engine, Apr 19, 2025
I was driving at 60MPH on the highway and my engine failed. The dashboard read "Press Start to Restart" and my engine RPMs were zero and nothing happened when I pressed the accelerator. I was lucky to be driving in the right hand lane and was able to get over. I had to stop the vehicle in a tight area with a guardrail on the right hand side of the shoulder and passing traffic on the left. Luckily, my engine restarted. I got off at the next exit and the same thing happened. I was able to restart is again and get it home and eventually to the dealer. The vehicle has 29,500 miles on it and the dealer says it needs a new engine (L87). They say it could take 3 months to get it.
Engine, Apr 18, 2025
The motor blew up Safety I was going approximately 70 mph on interstate 80 could have been bad The vehicle is at a Chevy dealer The dealership has looked at it but has no idea when a new motor will arrive About a week before the ck oil light came on maybe a month prior to that when sitting at a stoplight, the motor started to shake
Power train, Engine, Apr 18, 2025
Engine had already had a full replacement within the first 35,000 miles. Driving down the road at 55 MPH and engine stops completely. Have to coast into a neighborhood. Luckily I was able to get out of the road. Pulled over and turn the truck off. Tried to start it and it never would turn over. Came back an hour later to see if it just needed turn off for a bit and restarted. Tried to start it and it started right up. Drove it around the block and then decided to drive to an auto store to test the battery. Before I could get to the store the truck shut off again while driving in the middle of the busiest road in town during rush hour traffic. Had it towed to the dealership and they said I need an engine replacement. This 6.2 motor is completely unreliable and a hazard to anyone driving it. No warning lights, no indication it was going to fail. I keep up with all my maintenance. I drive under control and at the speed limit and I don't tow anything.
Engine, Apr 18, 2025
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. There were no warning lights illuminated; however, the message to shift to neutral and press the start button was displayed. The contact parked and turned off the vehicle; however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then pushed by another vehicle to a dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to pay a portion of the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 82,346.
Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 18, 2025
Smelled fuel coming from truck. Took it to local gmc dealer and they found two lines rubbed together causing fuel line to corrode.
Engine, Apr 18, 2025
Engine failure requiring engine replacement. I was told it was likely a bearing failure issue. I purchased the vehicle used from grapevine Buick with about 75,000 miles and decided not to purchase an extended warranty because I have always had good life and no engine issue with my previous chevy vehicles. There were no warning engine lights before, when it occurred or after it occurred. When the problem occurred on 12/2/24 I was driving on a road going approximately 50 mph when suddenly I felt a sudden loss of power. I then pulled over into a parking lot and could hear the engine knocking and making a screeching sound. I was over 230 miles from home when this occurred and had to get the vehicle towed back home. I had it towed again to an a shop where they determined the engine needed to be replaced. There was lots of metal shavings found in the oil pain. I was told it was likely a bearing failure issue. As I had no extended warranty and the factory warranty expired at 60,000 miles I had to pay over $12,000 for the engine to be replaced on a vehicle I had just purchased the prior month.
Power train, Apr 17, 2025
I had complete engine failure due to rod bearing failure resulting in the engine locking up and leaving me stranded on the road in 20° weather while waiting 2 hours for a tow truck. My safety was in jeopardy when this happened due to the extreme cold and being stuck on the side of a very busy highway. There was no warning and no warning lights on the dash prior to the engine failure. The engine in my truck is the L87 which is GM’s 6.2 liter V8. Once the truck was towed to the dealership they told me it was completely locked up and the needed a complete engine replacement that took over 8 weeks. Dealership told me the seized engine would be sent back to GM so they could inspect it for causes on why the rod bearings failed resulting in the seizure of the engine.
Steering, Electronic stability control (ESC), Engine, Apr 16, 2025
The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal, the transmission would downshift, and the vehicle was aggressively shaking while idling and while depressing the brake pedal. While driving approximately 35 - 40 MPH, the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) Service message was displayed, and the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road, the vehicle was turned off for a while and then restarted to continue driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed that the crankshaft, bearings, and tie rods needed to be replaced due to engine failure. The engine was rebuilt and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,636.
