I was driving on [XXX] in Louisiana and the front grille fin break free, struck my windshield and then landed in the middle of the Interstate. Thankfully no one struck it behind me. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While traveling from Florida back to Louisiana on [XXX], I stopped at a store when I came back out the vehicle would not start. I ended up having the battery boosted by a gentleman and then returned to my drive home. I drove from Quincy, Florida where the truck wouldn’t start to the [XXX] exit in Louisiana. I made 2 other stops but left the vehicle idling at both stops. At the [XXX] exit, I left the vehicle idling while I went inside and the vehicle quit running on its own. After many unsuccessful attempts, I couldn’t get the vehicle started again. I replaced the battery with no luck. Since it was Sunday night, I was unable to get the vehicle towed so I left the vehicle at the gas station and got a ride back to Baton Rouge so I could borrow a vehicle to get back to Winnfield, LA for work the following morning. My parents went the next morning ([XXX]) and had the mega switch replaced and the truck started right up. My mother then drove the vehicle to Baton Rouge, when she stopped at a traffic light, the truck quit again and she called OnStar to have it towed to Gerry Lane GMC. On [XXX], I received a call from Scott at Gerry Lane stating the vehicle had a lower engine knock and the truck needed a new engine. After multiple phone calls and my parents going to the dealership, mg parents were finally told the oil filter was filled with metal. None of that information was given in the phone call to me. I was simply told it needed a new engine with no explanation of how we got from a truck that wouldn’t start to needing a new engine. After waiting an extended time frame for them to locate an engine, I was finally able to pickup my truck on [XXX]. The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while accelerating to 70 MPH to overtake a dump truck, the vehicle lost automotive power and stalled. During the failure, the message "Transmission in Neutral" was displayed and the vehicle coasted to the side of the road. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine was faulty and needed to be replaced along with the oil delivery system. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The contact was informed of NHTSA Action Number: PE25001; and indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the investigation. The failure mileage was 20,016.
Engine, Feb 13, 2025
In August 2023, while driving on the interstate during rush hour, a critical engine component fell out of my vehicle, leaving me stranded in a dangerous situation. The car was towed to the dealership, where I was informed that a piston had fallen off the engine, requiring a full engine replacement. Now, in January 2025, my vehicle has once again failed—this time shutting off completely while I was driving on the Selmon Expressway, putting my safety at risk. After being towed to the dealership, I have now been informed that the engine has seized and will not turn, requiring yet another full engine replacement. This is completely unacceptable. As a loyal GMC owner, I have never experienced such catastrophic failures, let alone twice within such a short period. Engine replacements should not be a recurring issue, and I am deeply frustrated by the lack of reliability and the significant financial and safety concerns this has caused.
Electrical system, Feb 13, 2025
Radio software glitch (bulletin 23-NA-183) cuts blower fan speed to 50% or below resulting in ineffective defrost during winter months. GM knows of the issue and has a radio software update but will not complete this as warranty and/or recall and will demand you pay for the correction. Due to the uncontrolled and loss of power to fan that cannot be corrected by the owner (ex. turning radio off/on will not fix it) this has become a serious safety concern as the windshield can fog, frost, or freeze while driving the vehicle.

At approximately 18,000 miles the engine on my brand new GMC seized up while I was taking 4 of my employees Downtown Detroit. The engine stopped as I was merging into 3 lanes of traffic from the left lane. I had to cross 3 lanes during rush hour almost resulting in a major accident. Then I had to wait 2 months to replace the engine. 25,000 miles later, the second engine seized up while I was transporting my father between nursing home facilities. The third engine, I have recently been told only has a 12,000 mile warranty. I have requested that GM give me a 60,000 mile warranty on this 3rd engine and they refuse as it is past 30 days since the 3rd engine was installed. I should be getting a new truck, but I am just asking for a warranty. This is a known problem, which obviously has not been fixed. In both instances, there were no indications of a problem until the engine stopped running. The first time, I had 4 of my employees, which I was responsible for, in my car merging in the left lane with no engine power during rush hour, putting everyone at great risk, including other cars and people. The 2nd time, I had my [XXX] father in transit between nursing home facilities. This obviously was a very stressful event for both of us. Both of the dealerships that replaced the engines confirmed that they have been seeing this same issue in many other GM trucks. I personally know of 3 people that this has happened to. In both cases, I had to wait weeks to replace the engine because of the backlog to order the engine for other people. Service brakes, Feb 7, 2025
The system that failed was the wire harness for the internal brake control. This is a well documented problem on YouTube and Reddit. I was driving home from the mountains, with my 7K lb camper, and I started receiving incessant messages alternating between "Trailer Brakes Disconnected" and "Trailer Brakes Connected". The messages made it impossible to see the speedometer and hear music or calls. Most importantly, I lost my trailer brakes in the mountains of North Carolina. Meaning the only way I could slow down was with my truck brakes, while a 7,000 lb camper was pushing me. I took my truck to the dealership today and paid $166 for a diagnostic. The stated the issue was with my camper. I tried to explain that many owners were having this problem and it is well documented. They stated there was no recall on my vehicle and gave me a print out of what to check on my camper. I checked my camper and there are no issues and no issues when i connect it to my other vehicle.

Engine Mileage is 72,728, on my 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4, L87 V8 Engine. While driving [XXX] to drop off a co-worker at a Toyota dealership, my engine started making a strange "clicking" sound. A Toyota tech came out to look at it quick and suggested I try to get to a GMC dealer about .5 miles down the road. I made it about 100 yards before the entire truck shut down. The dash went black and then engine stopped running. Had to get towed to the dealership. Engine is considered "dead" by Diamond Auto in Worcester, MA, and the cost to replace the L87 V8 Engine is quoted at roughly $11,717.89. There have been zero prior engine issues on this vehicle. The engine failure came out of no where. Thank you for your time- [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 with a 6.2 engine. The truck had roughly 50,000 miles on it when the engine completely stopped working while I was driving on a busy multi lane highway during rush hour. After almost getting hit by multiple vehicles while trying to glide my truck to the side of the highway. I waited 2 hours trying to get my truck towed to a local dealership and the next day was told that my engine completely seized up and my engine needed to be replaced. I waited two months without my truck while it was at the dealership waiting on an engine that was back ordered. They told me it was complete engine failure. They couldn’t figure out why, all fluids were good yet the engine failed.

I currently own a 2022 GMC Sierra with 75823 miles on the vehicle. I purchased the vehicle new from Bill Cramer GMC, and just learned today that the engine has to be rebuilt due to bad lifters, cam shaft damage, and excessive oil consumption. According to the dealership and further research, this is a common issue with the GM 5.3L engine that is currently in my truck. Because the truck is now out of warranty GM will not cover the costly repair. Something has to be done regarding these engines, due to the thousands of people this has affected. According to the sites, no recall has been issued for these engines and its very dangerous to operate because the engine can lock up while driving.
Power train, Engine, Feb 2, 2025
On or around January 27 2025 my 2022 sierra loss power and shut down at night and dropped to 0 rpm. I was close to the house and got pulled home by relative. When I did get it cranked lifters were tapping which was common in the 6.2 but I drained my oil and filter and saw the glitter look. Truck was still tapping after warmed up. Last night I about got hit at an intersection when same thing happened. I felt a jar, and truck went to zero rpm and loss power. Truck said, put in neutral and try again. When I pushed starter had a click. Then I pushed start again and it started smoking. It burnt my starter up, because engine is seized. I saw where there is an investigation on this and I really hope it goes through because that was a scary moment and it is safety concern. Twice the same thing. But now can’t turn crankshaft, nothing to drive, making payments on a 80,000 truck that is my personal and work vehicle. 92000 miles on my truck and have my oil changed regularly. I’m stuck between rock and hard place, but will be getting it towed to a dealer somewhere. To here I need a 6.2l engine in my sierra slt. 2 year old truck it is stressful. I know im going to here 10,000 $$$ I don’t have.

Engine - catastrophic failure 6.2 liter V8. Vehicle is currently at dealer awaiting full engine replacement. Failure left me stranded waiting for tow to dealer. Problem has been diagnosed as rod and main bearing failure, engine replacement imminent. Vehicle was running perfectly fine all day. Went to take my daughter to basketball practice in evening initially everything was fine, then we heard squeeking, turned around to bring right back home, lost power in intersection, truck stalled. Got restarted check engine light came on and limp mode reduced power activated. Truck towed to dealer and oil pan was pulled. Rob and main bearings have scattered metal throughout the engine. Truck confirmed to need full replacement.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving at approximately 55 MPH, the infotainment system, and the rearview camera became inoperative, and the vehicle stalled. The tailgate unintendedly opened, and the steering and lane control assist feature independently activated causing the vehicle to steer in the other lanes. The contact stated while the vehicle was in reverse, the vehicle unexpectedly shifted to park. No warning light was illuminated; however, the "Check Suspension" message was displayed on the instrument panel, and lights on the instrument panel were intermittently darkened. The headlights were intermittently illuminated independently. The failures had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the results were unknown. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2025/01/nhtsa-opens-investigation-regarding-gm-6-2l-v8-engine-failures/ I experienced an engine failure, similar to the ones that are currently being investigated by NHTSA on my 2022 GMC Sierra Denali. My safety was put at risk through the engine failure at high speeds on the highway. The engine failed and while driving through mountainous terrain, the vehicle automatically launched into neutral and I had to dodge several passing vehicles to get to a safe place on the side of interstate 40 in western NC. The problem was confirmed by the original dealership that I purchased the vehicle from. Randy Marion GMC in Huntersville NC. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to the incident. It was sudden and without warning.

It is a known issue the OnStar modules fail and are on back order. They make you pay for 3 years of service on supply you a part that fails. This makes the phone app not work unbeknown to me when I had my kids and dog in the vehicle creating a safety is. This makes remote start and lock unoperable. This makes the GPS as well as the clock unoperable. This makes the sos call in emergency not operable.
Steering, Service brakes, Engine, Jan 28, 2025
I purchased my 2022 GMC SIERRA XLT in February of 2022. I have had it in the shop 4 times for recalls. They couldn’t or didn't put an inspection sticker on the truck because I honestly don’t think it could have passed inspection. The truck sounds like a truck on Transformer when I turn it off breaking town like a robot. On yesterday which was 1/27/2025 while backing up to turn around the truck started dragging in the back like the breaks locking up, the same thing happened while turning into my driveway off a state highway with an 18 wheeler coming. GMC can’t look at the truck until February 10! This Truck was purchased new and it’s been nothing but trouble. Electrical system goes in and out Steering assist reduced drive with care, Engine power reduced, park assist on then off and truck making unusual noise. I waited 13 YEARS to finally get another brand new vehicle and this what I ended up with. My last new vehicle was a 2004 Honda Pilot. I had 459,000 miles on the truck no engine or transmission issues. I donated the truck to Goodwill. Therefore, I hope GMC understands my frustration when my daughter’s 2019 Kia Optima is out performing my 2022 GMC XLT truck. The back breaks are dragging and locking up, it appears the gears are getting stuck and I can’t back the truck up or go in reverse without the struck staying stuck, then jerking vigorously and problems with the wheel turning to the right the truck get stuck or stall!
