  1. Engine, Aug 25, 2026

On 4/30/25- I took my truck to the dealership due to receiving a recall notice (engine propulsion) in the GM app. No codes camp up and got the all clear. Dealer did not change oil to 0/40 nor air filter. Advised GM had not provided the recommended oil yet On 10/06/25- the Engine propulsion fix was completed. Oil changed to 0/ w40. Engine module reprogramming completedNext. On 3/07/26- dropped off my Sierra truck at dealership. Ticking sound. Confirmed engine replacement was needed even after the oil viscosity change. 4/22/26- Replaced engine assembly, radiator, gaskets, hose, belt kit. At the time of the engine replacement, the truck had only 16,756 miles. As of 8/25/26, having an oil compression test completed as the replacement engine has been excessively burning oil. Needed the dealership to complete an official text for GM, but from checking the oil, the vehicle has short @ 1quart of oil every 1,000 miles.

  2. Engine, Aug 24, 2026

    The engine blew

  3. Engine, Aug 21, 2026

At approximately 14,000 miles, the 6.2L V8 engine experienced a major failure due to a spun main bearing, which resulted in the complete replacement of the engine. The vehicle remained at the dealership for more than 60 days while the repair was completed. After receiving the vehicle back, it operated without any significant issues until approximately 30,000 miles, when the engine experienced another major failure. This second failure was attributed to the lifters, and the engine required substantial repairs and ultimately had to be rebuilt. Having two major engine failures before reaching 30,000 miles—first requiring a complete engine replacement and then requiring the replacement engine to be rebuilt—has raised serious concerns regarding the vehicle’s long-term reliability and durability.

  4. Engine, Aug 20, 2026

Whole engine replacement at 20000 miles.

  5. Power train, Engine, Aug 16, 2026

I was driving north/east on [XXX] just outside of [XXX]. After accelerating to give another driver room to move out of his lane that was ending, I lost propulsion/power. The Sierra went into Neutral and told me something like "Press Start to resume". I had to immediately get off the interstate as I was rapidly losing speed. I was able to pull over to the shoulder of the interstate on the right, just before exit 2. After getting the vehicle parked, I was never able to restart the vehicle. The motor would not turn over. The display screens kept cycling between a blank display and a display that looked like the vehicle was on but the engine never turned on. When I tried to start the car, I got a message of "conditions not correct for shift". We could not even get the vehicle into Neutral. I used OnStar to get State Patrol to show up and put lights behind us for safety. OnStar should have a recording of this call. This was on Saturday XXX in the ballpark of 2:30 pm central time. I would imagine the officer also filed a report, but I did not get it. The vehicle was towed to Billion GMC in Iowa City. Billion GMC said their initial suspicion is the 6.2L motor failed / locked up on us as this is know issue that is subject of a class action lawsuit. These vehicles ARE NOT SAFE to be on the highway, someone is going to get seriously injured, please do everything you can to get these 6.2L engines off the road before someone dies. 6. Engine, Aug 11, 2026

On [XXX] I was driving my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 Vin # [XXX] on a major highway in Houston when without warning the engine shut off, stranding me in the middle of busy traffic. I was able to get to the shoulder and restart the truck, but no warning lights came on so I continued on my drive when approximately 20 minutes later, while still on a busy freeway, the engine shut off again. I was able to restart the truck and within another 15 minutes the check engine light appeared, the engine lost power and started making a loud rattling noise. Roughly 2 minutes later, as I was attempting to pull over to the shoulder and safety, the truck shut off and would not restart. This was the 3rd time for it to stall out on a busy freeway which was very dangerous for myself and the other drivers. I contacted the local Chevy dealership and they sent a tow truck out to tow the truck back to their dealership service center. I was later contacted by a service advisor that said they found a code P0016. He informed me that the engine would need to be replaced. As of today 8/11/26, they are still waiting on backordered parts to arrive before they can even start on any repairs. 7. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 10, 2026

Was traveling home and started losing power going up a hill on XXX. The truck was surging, the check engine light came on and an audible warning of no (low?) oil pressure. The truck shut off on a busy interstate highway and barely got onto the shoulder. The tow truck driver had to lay on the ground with part of his body in the lane of travel to place "skids" under the rear tires because there is no way to place this vehicle in neutral for a tow without a special GM tool. When I contacted Harry Robinson GMC service center in [XXX], they told me that it was no longer a safety recall because the truck had passed diagnostics and new, high viscosity oil was put in the truck XXX. The GMC app says code P0016 which is the dreaded 6.2L camshaft to crankshaft alignment that accompanies engine component failure. 9. Engine, Aug 5, 2026

Ever since I bought this truck new, I noticed a lot of metal shavings and debris in the oil filter every single time I changed the oil. I took it to the dealership multiple times to have this looked into before the engine recall came out. The dealership took pictures of the metal and sent them to a General Motors engineer, but the engineer just told them it was "normal." Later on, the truck went in for the official recall inspection, passed the PICO test, and nothing was fixed. Then on August 4, 2026, I was driving on a crowded expressway right through a construction zone with absolutely no shoulder to pull over on. Out of nowhere, the truck started hesitating badly, lost power, and the engine started making a really loud knocking noise. It barely ran, and it was incredibly dangerous because there was nowhere to go and traffic was heavy. Luckily, I was able to limp the truck along just far enough to clear the construction zone and pull over safely. the truck was towed to the dealer were they confirmed the engine was blown, and needs replaced.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the engine seized, and the transmission independently shifted into park(P). The failure had occurred while driving on a busy highway at highway speeds. The contact's minor children were occupants inside the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while attempting to restart the vehicle, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred eight months later. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with catastrophic engine failure a second time. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was in the process of being repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 39,000.

  12. Engine, Jul 28, 2026

Unknown. Went in to get inspection for the recall on the motor and it failed the test so motor was replaced. Now the I've hade the motor for 9 moths started hearing knocking in the motor and losing power.

  13. Engine, Jul 26, 2026

The engine (6.2L V8) in my 2024 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4 failed at approximately 40,750 miles. I began hearing a ticking noise coming from the engine, and the dealership subsequently diagnosed the cause as damaged bearings that in turn damaged the crankshaft, requiring a full engine replacement. Notably, this vehicle was not included in the related recall covering this engine defect, despite exhibiting the same failure. The original failed engine may be available for inspection upon request but I would need to confirm with the dealership whether it was retained or already returned to GM under warranty. This defect creates a serious safety risk because a damaged crankshaft and bearings can cause the engine to lose power or shut off without warning while driving. An unexpected loss of engine power at highway speed or in traffic could result in loss of vehicle control, reduced ability to accelerate out of a hazard, and increased risk of a collision to myself and to other drivers on the road. The failure gave no advance warning, so there was no opportunity to pull over safely before the issue became apparent. The fact that this failure occurred outside the scope of the existing recall suggests other vehicles with the same defect may be similarly at risk without notice. The dealership diagnosed damaged bearings and a damaged crankshaft as the cause of the ticking noise and performed a full engine replacement under warranty, confirming the failure. The dealership diagnosed the failure and performed the repair; I do not have direct confirmation of whether GM's engineering or warranty division conducted a separate inspection of the failed components beyond the dealer-level diagnosis. No warning lights or messages appeared on the dashboard at any point. The only symptom prior to failure was a ticking sound from the engine which I noticed shortly before the engine required replacement. I was not provided any electronic warning that would have alerted me.

I was driving on the highway when the vehicle started to make clinking noises. The vehicle started to lose power as I accelerated it would feel like something was pulling me in the opposite direction and the knocking noise would get louder. Ultimately, I had the vehicle towed to a dealership. This vehicle passed the L87 recall not too long ago, and the vehicle is barely used.

  15. Engine, Jul 17, 2026

2024 GMC Sierra 1500 6.2 v8 had a full engine seizure while driving on the freeway. All prior recall actions had already been met (scoped and upgraded oil), within 60 days of dealership review the engine stopped working. Recall 25V-274 L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. After a 5 hour event on the side of the road AAA towed the vehicle to the dealership where I was told it would be many months before this is returned. It took many weeks for GM to just review and approve any next service (engine needs). At this point I'm told there are 181 people also in line for an engine and they can't see where I might be in that line. So we wait.

  16. Engine, Jul 16, 2026

On XXX I started on a 3 hour trip with my daughter in the truck. My vehicle lost power and started knocking in the engine compartment. We were going over a very big Bridge([XXX]) from [XXX] to [XXX]. I had to coast off the highway and made it to a park. Truck would not restart and would not go into neutral. Waited 5 hours for AAA and was drug onto the flat bed truck because it would not go into neutral. It was then towed to the dealership(Union Park GMC) in [XXX], where they had to drag it off the flat bed truck. Truck was evaluated and determined by the technicians that it needed a new engine(6.2 L V8). Engine was tested and passed in October 2025. Still waiting on a new engine to be installed(today is XXX). GMC knows there are issues with these engines failing and continue to sell to the consumer. I am currently paying for a truck that I am not able to drive. 17. Engine, Jul 7, 2026

I was driving at normal highway speed. I exited the highway and started to deceleration for an upcoming traffic light. The engine started making a lot of noise. The 6.2L engine has 31k miles on it. Oil changes have been completed at the dealership where I purchased the sierra Denali. I called the dealership and the service writer could hear the engine noise. He asked if I could get it to the dealership which was about 15 miles away. I tried but the truck stopped about 7 miles from the dealership. They told me to call the onstar service and get a tow. The dealership said it will take about six weeks to get a new engine. In the meantime I'm making payments on an eighty thousand dollar vehicle I can't use. Someone needs to hold GM accountable for the lack of urgency in getting this problem fixed!

  18. Power train, Engine, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 2, 2026

The vehicle suffers from a persistent transmission defect including shuttering bucking slipping torque converter failure valve body failure twice metal debris improper down shifting chirping noises and related liability and safety issues. The vehicle has undergone multiple unsuccessful repair attempts at authorise GM dealerships. These repairs include torque converter replacement valve body replacement twice solenoid replacement fluid services software updates. The transmission problems have persisted despite these efforts and the vehicle has been out of service for more than 22 business days including a breakdown driving to Florida. I have filed a claim through GM but it seems like it just keeps getting pushed further and further away this is a serious safety issue as I fear for those driving around me and myself that I may cause an accident with the bucking slipping and failure to operate properly on the road.

  19. Engine, Jul 1, 2026

This vehicle became subject to a manufacturer safety recall requiring complete engine replacement. The engine failure has been confirmed by an authorized GMC dealer, and the vehicle has remained out of service for more than one month while awaiting the recall remedy. The dealer has advised that the repair has been escalated through GM's SPAC (Service Parts Assistance Center) process because a replacement engine is not available. General Motors has also confirmed there is currently no estimated delivery date or estimated completion date for the repair. As a result, the recall remedy is effectively unavailable, and the vehicle remains unusable for an indefinite period. Although a temporary loaner vehicle has been provided, it is not functionally comparable to the recalled vehicle and does not provide the towing capability and utility required for its intended use. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized GMC dealer, who confirmed that engine replacement under the recall is required. The vehicle remains available for inspection. My concern is not only the original safety defect but also the inability to obtain the recall remedy within a reasonable timeframe. There has been no estimate of when replacement engines will become available, leaving the vehicle out of service indefinitely. I am submitting this complaint to document the delay in completing the safety recall and to request that NHTSA review whether the recall remedy is being provided in a timely and effective manner.

  20. Steering, Electrical system, Engine, Jun 30, 2026

My 2024 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate 1500 experienced a catastrophic powertrain failure that created a serious safety hazard. On XXX, while driving at highway speeds, the truck unexpectedly shifted into neutral, causing an immediate loss of propulsion. During this event, the electrical system was also affected. The battery power dropped, power steering assistance was lost, and due to the electronic push-button start system, the vehicle could not be restarted while in this condition. This placed me and surrounding motorists at significant risk of a crash. I initially brought the vehicle to Point GMC, where I was advised no issue was found. After the problem continued, I returned on XXX and a dealership technician rode with me. During the test drive on [XXX], the truck again shifted into neutral, confirming the defect. The vehicle was then towed to the dealership, where diagnostics revealed DTC P0016. I was informed the engine had seized and required a complete engine replacement. The engine was replaced by an authorized GMC dealership in New Jersey. After only about 2,000 miles, the check engine light returned and the vehicle began experiencing additional electrical issues. This is a Denali Ultimate, the highest trim level, with advanced electronic systems, making these recurring failures especially concerning. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by three authorized GMC dealerships, and I have opened multiple cases with GMC Corporate. Despite repeated repair attempts, the manufacturer has not provided a permanent resolution. I continue to experience recurring engine and electrical issues and no longer have confidence in the safety or reliability of this vehicle. Given the repeated failures, loss of propulsion, loss of steering assistance, inability to restart the vehicle, and lack of resolution after multiple dealership visits and an engine replacement, I believe this matter warrants investigation by NHTSA. The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH at night, the message “Press Engine Start Button” was displayed, and the vehicle lost power. The vehicle was coasted to an exit ramp. The contact stated that after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle started to operate as intended. The vehicle was serviced under NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); but the recall repair failed to fix the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had occurred after the recall repair was performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 24,000.

  22. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 14, 2026

My truck engine has failed due to metal shavings in the oil related to the L87 engine recall, and the failure occurred after GM had replaced the truck’s oil as part of the recall remedy. The recall remedy did not prevent the failure of the engine.

  24. Engine, Jun 10, 2026

On XXX, while traveling at 75 mph on a major interstate highway, this 2024 GMC Sierra Crew Cab suffered a sudden and catastrophic internal engine seizure, resulting in an immediate and total loss of propulsion. This defect put the safety of all occupants and surrounding motorists at extreme risk, forcing the driver to navigate a completely unpowered, rapidly decelerating vehicle through high-speed traffic to reach the shoulder without the aid of engine power. There were absolutely no warning lamps, error messages, or mechanical symptoms prior to the failure; the engine locked up instantaneously without any advance warning. Following the incident, the vehicle was flatbed-towed to an authorized franchise dealership (Dossett GMC in [XXX]), where it remains un-repaired and is currently available for inspection by the manufacturer or federal investigators upon request. Critically, this vehicle was previously presented to a certified General Motors dealership at 34,766 miles for inspection and service compliance under Federal Safety Recall N252494001 (which covers engine component failure and subsequent loss of propulsion). The vehicle was cleared as passing the manufacturer's inspection protocol at that time. The total engine failure and seizure occurred less than 9,000 miles later at approximately 43,634 miles. The catastrophic field failure of this vehicle demonstrates that the manufacturer's current safety recall inspection and remedy are insufficient to identify or mitigate the defect, presenting an ongoing and severe risk to public highway safety.
