Recalls and investigations

  1. EquipmentJul 6, 2015

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Road King (FLHR), Street Glide (FLHX), Street Glide Special (FLHXS), Electra Glide Ultra Classic (FLHTCU), Ultra Limited (FLHTK), Police Road King (FLHP), Police Electra Glide (FLHTP), CVO Ultra Limited (FLHTKSE), 2014 CVO Road King (FLHRSE), and 2015 Electra Glide Ultra Classic Low (FLHTCUL), Ultra Limited Low (FLHTKL), Road Glide (FLTRX), Road Glide Special (FLTRXS), CVO Street Glide (FLHXSE), and CVO Road Glide Ultra (FLTRUSE) motorcycles. The affected motorcycles have saddlebag mounting receptacles that may not adequately secure the saddlebags to the motorcycle.

If a saddlebag is not adequately secured, it may separate from the motorcycle while riding, creating a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected saddlebag mounting receptacles with updated receptacles, free of charge. The recall began on July 30, 2015. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson customer service at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson's number for this recall is 0166.

  1. Other or unspecified, Feb 25, 2018, crash

WHILE SLOWING DOWN FOR A TURN TO THE LEFT, THE FRONT TIRE LOCKED AND SLID, RELEASED AND LOCKED AGAIN THROWING ME TO THE GROUND IN TURN I WOUND UP WITH 4 BROKEN RIBS, A BROKEN RIGHT HAND , INJURY TO MY RIGHT LEG AND ROAD RASH. 5000 DOLLARS PLUS TO MY BIKE AND HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM NOT TO MENTION A LONG RECOVERY. I WAS ON A PAVED CITY ROAD GOING LESS THAN 30 MPH. I DO NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN

  2. Structure, Oct 16, 2015

WHILE ON A ROAD TRIP THROUGH NORTHERN ARIZONA AND UTAH IN EARLY OCTOBER 2015, THE LICENSE PLATE MOUNTING BRACKET BROKE OFF THE BIKE AND WAS LOST. ATTACHED TO THE BROKEN MOUNT WAS MY LICENSE PLATE, THE ASSOCIATED FASTENERS, REFLECTOR AND POSSIBLY MORE UNKNOWN ITEMS. THE MOUNTING BRACKET FRACTURED THROUGH BOTH MOUNTING BOLT HOLES. I HAD ACHIEVED SPEEDS UP TO 75 MILES PER HOUR WITH THE MOTORCYCLE WHEN THE MOUNTING BRACKET DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS LICENSE MOUNTING BRACKET ON MY 2015 HARLEY DAVIDSON ROAD KING MOTORCYCLE IS DEFECTIVE IN DESIGN OR MANUFACTURE OR BOTH. I BELIEVE THIS DEFECT IS DANGEROUS AND COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO OTHER VEHICLES OR INJURE PEDESTRIANS. INCLUDED IS A IMAGE OF WHAT REMAINS OF THE LICENSE MOUNTING BRACKET.
