Recalls and investigations

  1. Vehicle speed control, accelerator pedalOct 10, 2019

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

  8. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMay 28, 2015

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2007 Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2006 Ridgeline, 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, and 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL vehicles. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. 9. Steering, hydraulic power assist, hose, piping, and connectionsMay 17, 2012

Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL and model year 2003-2007 Accord V6 vehicles. In May 2012, Honda filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL vehicles. In September 2012, Honda informed the agency that it was including an additional 573,147 vehicles including certain model year 2003 through 2007 Accord V6 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 625,762. Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage.

If this occurs, power steering fluid can leak onto a hot catalytic converter, leading to smoke and possibly an under-hood fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose, free of charge. The original recall began in June 2012, and owners of those vehicles may obtain the free remedy. Sufficient parts are not yet available for owners of the vehicles covered by the September 2012 expansion, but are expected to be available in early 2013. Honda will notify owners of these vehicles beginning on October 26, 2012, and will notify these owners again when parts are available so those vehicles can be brought to dealers for applications of the free remedy. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

  10. Power train, automatic transmission, control module (tcm/pcm/tecm)Aug 4, 2011

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.

THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.

HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

The contact owns a 2006 Honda Accord. The contact stated that while driving 15-20 MPH, the contact became aware of an abnormal burning odor, and there was smoke coming from under the hood. The contact stated that the smoke increased while at a complete stop in traffic. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle after pulling over to the side of the road and after arriving at the residence. The contact stated that the power steering hose was leaking at the back of the engine, near the firewall, onto the catalytic converter, and onto the power steering lines. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V222000 (Steering); however, the dealer informed the contact that the recall repair could not be performed because the power steering pump was an aftermarket part. The contact stated that the dealer failed to honor the recall repair, which only involved the power steering hose replacement. The vehicle was taken to Automotive Technology of West Islip, where the contact was informed that the vehicle should be repaired under the recall. The mechanic contacted the manufacturer on the contact's behalf; however, the manufacturer confirmed that the recall repair could not be performed because the power steering pump was an aftermarket part. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 141,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

Clicking in steering wheel, and steering wheel very stiff. Not sure if it's the flex coupler or something else. Has been ongoing for probably 2 or 3 years. Also headliner is falling, has been lifting for a couple of years but now it's to the point where I'm afraid it'll fall on my head and block my vision while driving. This is a common issue with these older hondas Headliner needs a recall/warranty extension from the manufacturer. The flex coupler if that is the issue needs a recall or warranty extension as well. Kia has done this for their older specific vehicles with this flex coupler issue (my other car which had the same problem)

  3. Steering, Feb 22, 2023

Power steering fluid leakage that smokes up under hood, loss of power to steering and extremely difficult to steer. Major safety issue.

  4. Steering, Feb 11, 2022

My car is leaking power steering fluid somewhere. I can fill it to the recommended line, drive 10 minutes down the road and start having problems turning again. It is worse when turning slowly like when backing out of a parking spot and then turning the wheel to be able to accelerate in the correct direction. I have also noticed smoke coming from my car if I am sitting in park after putting fluid in, it is worse if I have my heat on. I am currently pregnant and this is my only form of transportation to be able to get my son to and from school and myself to work and every where else I have to drive to. I have almost hit parked cars because I can't get the steering wheel to turn. I am afraid that I will be driving down the road and end up not being able to turn into a curve in the road or something and end up rolling/wrecking my car. I am afraid that my car could catch on fire while I am waiting in the pickup line for my son which would put other parents, children, and other cars at risk. Yes the problem has been confirmed. The vehicle has not been inspected. No warning lamps or anything. I have been dealing with this for almost 3 months. It is causing pain in my neck, back, arms, and shoulders.

I BOUGHT A USED VEHICLE FROM ALOHA MOTOR GROUPS INC. ON FEB. 28, 2020. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SALVAGED. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE SENDING MY TITLE AND EVERYTHING OUT. I HADN'T RECEIVED ANYTHING AS OF AUGUST 28, 2020, SO I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY PULLED OUT MY TITLE, ATTACHED TO SOMEONE ELSE'S PAPERWORK, AND REALIZED THAT THE SALVAGE INSPECTION WAS NEVER CLEARED. SO, NOW I AM STUCK WITH THEM NOT HAVING ANY EXPLANATION OR MEANS OF FIXING THIS ISSUE. THEY ARE DENYING THEIR INVOLVEMENT AND ARE REFUSING TO HAVE A NEW MARYLAND SAFETY INSPECTION DONE AFTER THE SALVAGE INSPECTION IS COMPLETED EVEN THOUGH THEY FAILED TO PROVIDE A PROPER INSPECTION AND TITLE FOR OVER 6 MONTHS.

I WAS DRIVING IN THE LANE, PROBABLY AROUND 20-25MILES THROUGH THE TRAFFIC. I WAS TRYING TO TURN LITTLE TOWARDS RIGHT BUT SOMETHING HAPPENED IN STEERING WHEEL (LOCKED/STUCK - I DO NOT KNOW) BUT THE CAR DIDN'T TURN. THE TRUCK/VAN COMING FROM OTHER DIRECTION AND MY CAR CRASHED. I IMMEDIATELY GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SAFETY. I WAS TAKEN TO EMERGENCY FROM THE CRASH SITE. AFTER 2ND VISIT TO HOSPITAL I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A RIB FRACTURE. I REACHED OUT TO HONDA AMERICA REGARDING THIS AND THEY SAID SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NOT ABLE TO BE INSPECTED THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING REGARDING THIS MATTER. I URGE NHTSA TO INQUIRE FURTHER IN 2006 HONDA ACCORD STEERING ISSUE SINCE I SURVIVED A FATAL ACCIDENT, OTHER MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO. IF YOU NEED FURTHER DETAILS PLEASE REACH OUT TO ME.

HONDA DID AN INVESTIGATION AND DENIED ANY REPAIRS ON THE PUMP. HONDA ONLY FIXED HOSE AND TRIED UP SELLING THE REPAIRS FOR THE PUMP.

VEHICLE BEGAN LEAKING POWER STEERING (P/S) FLUID WHILE IN USE, VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE ASSOCIATED WITH LOW P/S FLUID. PROBLEM WITH POWER STEERING HOSE FEED LINE LEAKING P/S FLUID WHICH IS THEN SPREADING TOWARDS HOT COMPONENTS ASSOCIATED WITH VEHICLE EXHAUST SYSTEM. NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER#12V222000 SHOULD BE EVALUATED AND EXPANDED TO THE 2006 HONDA ACCORD 2.4 L 4-CYCLINDER VEHICLES THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES AS THE V6 MOTORS.

THE DAY AFTER THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT NOTICED DROPS OF POWER STEERING FLUID ON THE PAVEMENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE BEGAN APPROXIMATELY ONE MONTH AGO, BUT SUBSIDED AFTER POWER STEERING FLUID WAS ADDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.

POWER STEERING HOSE LEAKS FOR HONDA ACCORD 2006 SEDAN EX, V6. HOSES ARE MOIST AND OILY WET. THE STEERING WHEELS CONTINUES TO SQUEAKS WHEN TURNING. THE FLUID LEVEL IS LOW EVEN AFTER REFILL UP TO FULL MAX FILL LINE. HONDA DEALER INSPECTED AND SAID THEY REPLACED HOSES IN APRIL 2013 AFTER RECALLS WERE ISSUED FOR POWER STEERING HOSE LEAKS/DETERIORATION. NOW IT IS APRIL 2017, AGAIN IS THIS A RECURRING ISSUE/CONCERN FOR HONDA ACCORD V6 AUTOMOBILES?

  22. Steering, Jul 5, 2016

STEERING: ON FRIDAY JULY 1, 2016, MY HONDA ACCORD V4 BEGAN TO SHUDDER AND SHAKE AS I BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. AFTER A SHORT WAIT, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT ONTO THE STREET, BUT THE SHAKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY PRONOUNCED AND I IMMEDIATELY RETURNED TO THE DRIVEWAY. A CHECK OF THE FLUIDS REVEALED VERY LOW POWER STEERING FLUID, BELOW THE MINIMUM LEVEL MARK. AFTER TOPPING UP THE CHAMBER WITH NEW FLUID, THE CAR STARTED AND WAS OPERABLE WITHOUT SHAKING AND NO STEERING PROBLEMS. HOWEVER, THE LEVEL IN THE CHAMBER SANK IMMEDIATELY BELOW THE MINIMUM LINE AFTER JUST A MINUTE OR TWO OF OPERATION (I BACKED A SHORT DISTANCE DOWN THE DRIVE). THERE WERE A SIGNIFICANT NUMBER OF FRESH FLUID SPOTS ON THE DRIVE. MORE FLUID WAS ADDED AND THE CAR WAS SUCCESSFULLY DRIVEN TO THE DEALERSHIP LOCATED 2 MILES FROM OUR HOME, WHERE IT IS AWAITING REPAIR. THE DEALER REPORTED THIS MORNING THAT BOTH THE HIGH PRESSURE LINE AND THE RETURN LINE WERE LEAKING. SINCE THE CAR WAS DRIVEN WITH NO PROBLEMS OR SIGNS OF LEAKS THE DAY BEFORE, AND BECAUSE THESE LEAKS APPEARED SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY PRIOR PROBLEMS WITH STEERING OR POWER STEERING FLUID LEVELS, WE BELIEVE THIS FAILURE POSES A SIGNIFICANT RISK TO THE DRIVER, PASSENGERS, AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD. THERE WAS ALSO THE POTENTIAL OF AN ENGINE FIRE DUE TO THE LEAKING FLUID. THE CAR HAS REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND VERY LOW MILEAGE (<30000 MILES). THE NHTSA ISSUED A RECALL IN 2012 (12V222000) FOR 2003-2007 ACCORD V6S. BECAUSE THAT RECALL WAS DUE TO DEFECTIVE LINES/HOSES, AND OUR CAR'S HOSES ALSO FAILED IN THE SAME WAY, WE BELIEVE THAT FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO OTHER ACCORD ENGINE SIZES AND VIN NUMBERS SHOULD BE CONDUCTED AND INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

THE TIRE WAS INTACT, BUT HAD CRAWLED OFF THE RIM. TIRE PRESSURE WAS CHECKED TWO DAYS PRIOR AND WAS WELL WITHIN PROPER LIMITS OF THE REQUIRED PSI. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AS A RESULT OF THE BLOWOUT AND CRASH..
