Recalls and investigations

  1. Vehicle speed control, accelerator pedalOct 10, 2019

Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."

If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

  8. Air bags, frontal, driver side, inflator moduleMay 28, 2015

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2001-2007 Accord, 2001-2005 Civic, 2001-2004 Honda Civic GX, 2003-2005 Honda Civic Hybrid, 2002-2006 CR-V, 2003-2011 Element, 2002-2004 Odyssey, 2003-2008 Pilot, 2006 Ridgeline, 2003 Acura 3.2CL, 2003-2006 Acura MDX, and 2002-2003 Acura 3.2TL vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with a dual-stage driver frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion and other factors, including manufacturing variability that, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture.

In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the driver frontal air bag inflator, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Owners may contact Acura customer service at 1-800-382-2238, select option 4. Note: Vehicles that have had their driver frontal air bag replaced previously as part of a recall remedy prior to September 12, 2014 need to have their air bag replaced under this recall as well. Vehicles that, on or after September 12, 2014, received a remedy for a prior driver frontal air bag inflator recall already received an inflator of a different design, and therefore are not included in this recall and do not require additional servicing. Note: This recall fully supersedes recalls 08V-593, 09V-259, 10V-041, 11V-260, 14V-351 and 15V-153. Honda's numbers for this recall are JQ9, JR0, JR1, JR2, JR3, JR4, JR5, JR6, JR7, and JR8.

  9. Steering, hydraulic power assist, hose, piping, and connectionsMay 17, 2012

Honda is recalling certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL and model year 2003-2007 Accord V6 vehicles. In May 2012, Honda filed a defect report to recall certain model year 2007 and 2008 Acura TL vehicles. In September 2012, Honda informed the agency that it was including an additional 573,147 vehicles including certain model year 2003 through 2007 Accord V6 vehicles. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 625,762. Prolonged under-hood and power steering fluid temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, resulting in cracks and power steering fluid leakage.

If this occurs, power steering fluid can leak onto a hot catalytic converter, leading to smoke and possibly an under-hood fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a new heat resistant power steering hose, free of charge. The original recall began in June 2012, and owners of those vehicles may obtain the free remedy. Sufficient parts are not yet available for owners of the vehicles covered by the September 2012 expansion, but are expected to be available in early 2013. Honda will notify owners of these vehicles beginning on October 26, 2012, and will notify these owners again when parts are available so those vehicles can be brought to dealers for applications of the free remedy. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

  10. Power train, automatic transmission, control module (tcm/pcm/tecm)Aug 4, 2011

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.

THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.

HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

After pulling my car in forward, my front cv axel was broke off and I had to have my car towed in to be fixed. The issue is consistent with a similar issue reported on [XXX] After reading through this, I need to know if I am at risk of further vehicle trouble now that my axel is repaired and if this is a recalled issue for my Honda Accord, then I want to ensure others can get this information right away. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  2. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Mar 5, 2025

Electrical component malfunctioning Knock Sensor: code error: p0325 I noticed my check engine light had came on but wasn't on for long and had turned off on the dash. A few weeks later the check engine light reappeared and did not go back off. Upon this happening I noticed a major difference in my vehicle performance. The fuel consumption had significantly increased, I recognized these shake like vibrations when sitting in park or at a complete stop. A "knocking noise" I would hear coming from the engine, as well as rough idling almost as if there was a "stalling/hesitant" idling that sounded very off. Adding a very noticeable reduced power from the engine that was not there when the check engine light was not on. This has been a confirmed malfunction and should be replaced due to the importance the knock sensor provides to the engine of this vehicle. This was confirmed by an employee at a parts store, with there computer code reader. Upon request for inspection; I have open availability. Confirmed: March 4, 2025 The additional code provided also stated the catalytic converter is recommended to be replaced as well. Engine related systems that power the vehicle such as (catalyst pipes) Powertrain (previously recalled prior time frame) due to this being a numerously reported issue with many other owners of this same vehicle I own. There is a reoccurring issue that absolutely goes hand in hand with the performance and job of the also stated ongoing problems I'm facing. The knock sensor is a vital part to the powertrain system that helps optimize engine performance and protects it from harmful knocking by monitoring combustion irregularities. Potentially if these are current issues, and have caused any kind of damage, the damage alone effects as follows: -wiring issues, internal malfunction, physical damage , corrosion from exposure to engine fluids, internal short circuit, mechanical damage, faulty wiring, excessive vibrations, wear and tear from use.

  7. Power train, Mar 16, 2021

WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT LOW SPEED (10 MPH) AND GETTING BACK UP TO SPEED ON THE HIGHWAY (55MPH SPEED LIMIT), THE VEHICLE LOST THE POWER CONNECTION TO THE WHEELS. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AS THE GAS PEDAL WAS BEING DEPRESSED, BUT THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN. SHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION TO DIFFERENT GEARS (FROM D TO D2, D1) DID NOTHING. THE HIGHWAY WAS 2 LANES AND THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC, SO LUCKILY THE 2 CARS BEHIND ME WERE ABLE TO BRAKE AND SWITCH LANES AROUND ME WITHOUT CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, WHILE I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE FROM THE LEFT LANE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. EVALUATION BY AN ASE CERTIFIED SHOP AT A LUTHER DEALERSHIP REVEALED THAT THE DRIVE SHAFT (DRIVERS SIDE) SNAPPED INTO TWO PIECES AT THE JUNCTION THAT IS INSIDE A RUBBER COMPONENT. THE SHOP DISCLOSED TO ME THAT THERE ARE TWO RECALLS OUT FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE BY HONDA MOTOR COMPANY, BUT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THERE ARE TWO SEPARATE RECALLS RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM PER CONSUMER REPORTS. THE 2013 THROUGH 2015 HONDA ACCORD SEDANS ARE PART OF RECALL #20V769. THE 2013-2015 ACURA ILX, 2013 ACURA ILX HYBRID, 2012 HONDA CIVIC HYBRID, AND 2007-2014 HONDA FIT VEHICLES ARE PART OF RECALL #20V770.

CAR BEGUN TO BEHAVE STRANGELY, SHIFTING LATE, TOO SOON, RANDOMLY, SO I TOOK IT TO 4 SHOPS HERE IN HOUSTON AND THE COMMON RESOLUTION OR OPINION FROM THE 4 MECHANICS IS THAT THOSE TRANSMISSIONS ARE TOO WEAK FOR THE ENGINE THE COME WITH, SO THEY ADVICE TO STOP DRIVING AND JUNK THE CAR, THAT TRASNMISSION SWAP GOES FOR 2400-4000$ AND I DONT HAVE THAT MONEY. NOW GOING BACK HOME THE CAR STARTED SLIPPING THE 4TH AND 3RD GEAR AND PUT ME IN RISK DUE TO THE FACT THAT I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT FROM 4TH OR 5TH TO 2ND WHILE DOING 50MPH TO THE POINT I HAD TO STOP AND GET THE CAR TOWED, I ENDED UP JUNK ING THE CAR. NOW MY QUESTION IS, MY CAR HAD 120.000, NO OTHER RECALL ON TRASNMISSION, ALL MECHANICS KNOW THOSE TRANSMISSIONS ARE WEAK, NISSAN ALTIMAS UP TO 2011 HAD A RECALL ON THEIR REALLY BAD CUT TRANSMISSION AND HONDA DOESN'T, IT WOULD BE NICE IF NHTSA OPENS AN INVESTIGATION ON THIS AND MAKE HONDA REPLACE BAD TRANSMISSIONS OR PAY UP PEOPLE WHO ENDED UP TAKING THE CARS TO A JUNKYARD OR REFUND TRANSMISSION REPLAMENT/REPAIR COSTS.

I'VE HAD MY POWER STEERING PUMP AND RACK & PINION REPLACED. POWER STEERING IS STILL TOUGH, FEELS LIKE I'M TURNING THE WHEEL WITH 40LB WEIGHTS ON EACH SIDE OF IT. SUSPENSION IS FAILING, HITTING A BUMP MAKES MY CAR FEEL LIKE THE SUSPENSION IS PUSHING UP AND MAKES IT FLOAT MOMENTARILY AND MAKES A SLIGHT NOISE WHILE DRIVING. BOTH CV AXLES FAILED FRONT SIDE AT THE SAME POINT OF THAT RUBBER GROMMET IN THE MIDDLE, WATER GETS TRAPPED UNDER IT AND MAKES IT RUST OUT....BOTH OF THEM SNAPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT DIFFERENT POINTS.

I HAD RETURNED HOME FROM CHRISTMAS SHOPPING AT 9 IN THE EVENING ON 12/10/16. I DROVE UP MY DRIVEWAY PUT MY CAR IN PARK, PRESSED THE AUTOMATIC GARAGE DOOR OPENER WHICH IS ON MY VISOR AND THE DOOR OPENED BUT MY GARAGE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. I LEFT MY HEADLIGHTS ON FOR THIS REASON AND THE ENGINE ON. I WENT. OUT AND EMPTIED THE BACK SEAT OF ALL THE CHRISTMAS PACKAGES AND WALKED IN THE HOUSE THROUGH THE GARAGE. I WENT TO THE FRONT DOOR TO BRING IN A BOX FROM UPS AND THEN WENT TO THE GARAGE AND WAS SHOCKED TO FIND MY CAR IN THERE CRUSHING MY WASHING MACHINE. ALL OF THIS IN A SPAN OF NO MORE THAN 3 MINUTES. THE CAR WENT IN STRAIGHT SO THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE STRUCTURE TO MY SINGLE CAR GARAGE. IF MY WASHER DIDN'T STOP IT, IT WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE HOUSE. I HAD A $700 SPEED QUEEN WASHER THAT WAS ONLY 3 YEARS OLD. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF MY CAR HAD EVER BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE AND FOUND A NHTSA CAMPAIGN #11V39500 ANNOUNCED ON 08/04/16 INVOLVING 1,512,107 VEHICLES. I CALLED THE SERVICE DEPT OF HONDA OF OCALA WITH MY COMPLAINT AND NECESSARY INFORMATION INCLUDING VIN # AND THEY NEVER RETURNED MY CALL. I CALLED HONDA CORP. AT 1-800-999-1099 AND SPOKE TO OLIVIA. SHE INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ASKED MY IF I HAD REPORTED THIS TO MY INSURANCE COMPANY AND WOULD I GIVE HER THE NAME OF MY INSURANCE COMPANY. SHE SAID THIS WAS A MATTER FOR THE ACCIDENT DIVISION. I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT. SHE SAID I SHOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE ACCIDENT DIVISION.. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO FROM HONDA OF OCALA AND IT IS ALMOST PAID FOR AND I CAN NOT AFFORD TO TRADE IT IN. NOW IT CAN'T LEAVE IT RUNNING IN MY DRIVEWAY TO COOL OFF OR AT 6 AM TO DEFROST ON OUR FREEZING WINTER MORNINGS BEFORE I HEAD TO WORK.. PLEASE CAN I GET SOME HELP FROM YOU. THANKS. [XXX]. WAS ON WAY HOME FROM A TRIP WAS OVER 2 HOURS AWAY, WHILE ON FREEWAY THE CAR STOPS AND AND RPM WENT TO RED. I PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURNED CAR OFF. WAITED 10 MINUTES AND STARTED IT AND DROVE THE FEW FEET TO REST AREA ENTRANCE AND RPM WENT HIGH AGAIN. AM 32 WEEKS PREGNANT I HAD MY TWO. DAUGHTERS AND 21 MONTH OLD SON. WE WERE STANDED AT REST STOP FOR 7 HOURS. THE SITUATION WAS DANGEROUS THT WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR STOPS GASING AND CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, HAD ANOTHER VEHICLE BEEN BEHIND ME WE WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT. WE WERE VERY LUCKY NO ONE WAS BEHIND US AT THAT MOMENT. THERE WAS NO FUNNY NOISE NO DASH LIGHTS COMING ON. NO INDICATION SOMETHING WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. SOMETHING THAT COULD HAVE COST US OUR LIVES, SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. A RECALL
