  8. Power train, automatic transmission, control module (tcm/pcm/tecm)Aug 4, 2011

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.

THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.

HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

HONDA IS RECALLING AFTERMARKET FULL NOSE MASKS, PART NUMBER 08P35-TA0-100 AND 08P35-TA6-100 MANUFACTURED BETWEEN AUGUST 9, 2007 THROUGH DECEMBER 11, 2007. THE ACCESSORY WAS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR VEHICLES. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE NOSE MASK MATERIAL TO INTERFERE WITH PART OF THE HOOD LATCH. IF THE HOOD HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETELY CLOSED AND THE NOSE MASK INTERFERES WITH THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH MECHANISM THE HOOD MAY POP OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN.

THIS MAY RESULT IN REDUCED DRIVER VISIBILITY THAT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.

HONDA IS ASKING OWNERS TO PLEASE REMOVE THE NOSE MASK IMMEDIATELY AND CALL ANY AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO RETURN THE NOSE MASK AND HAVE IT REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR BRAKES WERE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE REAR BRAKES ACCORDINGLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

  2. Service brakes, Electric, Equipment, May 20, 2010

I HAVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD AND JUST ROLLED OVER 41,000 MILES. I STARTED TO HEAR THE METAL ON METAL COMING FROM MY REAR WHEELS. THIS IS MY 3RD ACCORD SO I KNOW IT IS BRAKES RELATED. 41,000 MILE WOULD BE OK EXCEPT I ALSO HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED AT 21,000 MILES. I WAS LUCK THAT MY DEALERSHIP COVERED THE 1ST SET UNDER WARRANTY BUT NOW THAT I AM NO LONGER COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY I AM GOING TO HAVE TO PAY. ON BOTH OF MY PREVIOUS ACCORDS I ONLY REPLACED THE BRAKES ONCE IN OVER 100,000 MILES. SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT. *TR

  3. Service brakes, Electric, May 19, 2010

HONDA ACCORD EX-L 2008. I HAD TO REPLACE REAR BRAKES AND RESURFACE ROTORS AT 25,711 MILES AT A COST OF $410.49. I NOW HAVE READ THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THEY REPLACED THE BRAKES WITH THE SAME DEFECTIVE PADS, AND NOW THE SQUEAKING HAS STARTED SO I KNOW THEY WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN AT 45,000. I AM SO FRUSTRATED! *TR

  4. Engine and engine cooling, May 19, 2010

2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND OFF FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. WHEN I BRING THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER THEY SAY I HAVE NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THIS GOES ON EVERY OTHER MONTH AND THEY HAVE NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. MY CAR IS STILL FORTUNATELY UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT IS THERE MORE DAMAGE BEING DONE THAT ONCE I REACH MY WARRANTY THE CAR WILL BE WORTHLESS? THE DEALER AND AMERICAN HONDA HAVE BEEN USELESS IN THIS MATTER AND HAVE TOLD ME TO DRIVE MY CAR WITH EVERY WARNING LIGHT ON UNTIL THEY CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO FIX IT. AT WHAT POINT IN A CAR JUST A LEMON? IF I COULDN'T TURN BACK TIME 2 YEARS I WOULD HAVE NEVER BOUGHT THIS CAR. *TR

  5. Service brakes, Hydraulic, May 18, 2010

I,LIKE MANY OTHERS, HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE REAR BRAKES ON MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD. I FIRST HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED AT 23K AND AGAIN AT 41K. AND, BECAUSE I COULD NOT AFFORD IT LAST WEEK, I MUST TAKE THE CAR BACK TO GET ONE OF MY ROTORS COMPLETELY REPLACED (THE OTHERS WERE ABLE TO BE RESURFACED). APPARENTLY SOMETIMES BETWEEN 23K AND 41K MY BRAKES WORE BAD ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN INDENTION ON MY ROTOR. THIS IS STRANGE TO ME BECAUSE I TOOK MY CAR TO HAVE THE BRAKES LOOKED AT AS SOON AS I HEARD THEM MAKING THE INDICATOR NOISE BOTH TIME, YET SOMEHOW MY ROTOR WAS ABLE TO BE INDENTED B/C THERE WAS METAL RUBBING AGAINST METAL... I'M NO MECHANIC, BUT THAT SOUNDS LIKE A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME! I WOULD JUST LIKE WHATEVER THE ISSUE IS THAT IS CAUSING THESE BRAKES TO WEAR DOWN SO QUICKLY TO BE FIXED. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE, A QUALITY ISSUE AS WELL AS A FINANCIAL CONCERN (AT LEAST FOR ME). *TR

  6. Service brakes, Hydraulic, May 17, 2010

I DRIVE A 2008 HONDA ACCORD EX-L V6. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED AT 23,364 MILES. THE REAR BRAKES WORE EXTREMELY PREMATURE FOR ANY CAR I HAVE OWNED. ONLINE FORUMS AND COMPLAINT WEBSITES SHOW THE SAME OCCURRENCES FOR THE SAME MAKE/MODEL/YEAR. UPON CALLING HONDA TO COMPLAIN, THEY DO NOT WISH TO RECALL THE PROBLEM, NOR ARE THEY WILLING TO REFUND ME THE $221.30 THAT I HAD TO PAY TO MAKE MY CAR SAFE TO DRIVE. HONDA SAID ON THE PHONE THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WERE YET TO MAKE A RECALL/REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FAULT. I BELIEVE THAT HONDA HAD A REPUTATION THAT EXCEEDED MANY MANUFACTURES AND THUS I PURCHASED A HONDA. THIS PROBLEM IS UNACCEPTABLE AND UNFORTUNATE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIXED AND WAS CAPABLE OF PAYING FOR IT. I WOULD HATE TO SEE THIS BE A PROBLEM THAT IS UNRESOLVED AND WOULD BE CAPABLE OF CAUSING SOMEONE ELSE PHYSICAL HARM/DEATH IN BRAKES NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE NEVER OWNED A CAR THAT HAS NEEDED THIS SORT OF REPAIR AND HAVE DRIVEN 4 OTHER VEHICLES WITH AT LEAST 70,000+ MILES ON THEM. *TR

  7. Service brakes, Hydraulic, May 14, 2010

  9. Equipment, May 10, 2010

BOTH REMOTE CONTROLS LOSE RANGE OF OPERATION WITHIN MONTHS OF REPLACING BATTERIES. THIS HAS BECOME VERY FRUSTRATING, WHERE I OFTEN NEED TO BE STANDING RIGHT NEXT TO THE CAR TO LOCK/UNLOCK IT. I ACTUALLY REVERTED TO USING THE REMOTE OF MY HONDA REMOTE CAR STARTER INSTEAD OF THE KEY REMOTE ITSELF (OF WHICH HAS ITS OWN SET OF PROBLEMS). *TR

  10. Service brakes, Hydraulic, May 10, 2010

MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD HAS 21000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER BUT THE REAR BRAKES HAVE ALREADY WORN OUT. WHILE DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I HAVE DISCOVERED THIS ISSUE IS COMMON TO THIS VEHICLE. *TR

  12. Service brakes, Hydraulic, May 6, 2010

MY 2008 HONDA ACCORD EXL HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE JUST HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES FOR THE SECOND TIME. ONCE AT 35,000 ONCE AT 60,000. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THREE DIFFERENT HONDA MANAGERS THAT HONDA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE DESIGN OF THE SPRING THAT IS SUPPOSED TO SEPARATE THE PADS AFTER BRAKING DOES NOT PUSH THE PADS FAR ENOUGH TO CLEAR THE ROTORS. THIS NOT ONLY WEARS THE PADS MUCH TOO QUICKLY BUT ALSO MAKES THE ENGINE WORK HARDER AND HINDERS THE GAS MILEAGE. *TR

I OWN A 08 HONDA ACCORD. WHEN I PUT IN REVERSE A HORRIBLE SCREECHING NOISE STARTED. IT WOULD CONTINUE WHEN I WOULD BRAKE ALSO. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL SHOP TO LOOK AT IT. I ONLY HAVE 30K MILES SO FIGURED SOMETHING MINOR. THEY SAID IT WAS THE REAR BRAKE PADS! FRONT ONES WERE NEVER REPLACED AND IN GOOD CONDITION. 200.00 FOR NEW BRAKE PADS. CALLED THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER THEY SAID 250. I HAVE DONE NOTHING FURTHER. *TR

THE CONTACT THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE BUT THE ISSUE CONTINUED TO OCCUR ONCE ON THE ROAD. THE CONTACT CALLED AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VALVES DID NOT FEED PROPERLY AND SLIPPED CAUSING MISFIRES. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN REPAIRED. 20. Service brakes, Hydraulic, Apr 27, 2010

HONDA ACCORD 2008 MODEL SHOWS PREMATURE BRAKE WEAR OUT ON REAR BRAKES. MY CAR IS AT 29,000 MILES, AND THE BRAKE PADS ARE GONE, EVEN WEARING OUT THE METAL. I HEARD SOME INTERMITTENT SQUEAKING NOISE FROM A COUPLE MONTHS BACK, BUT WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO SERVICE, THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T HEAR ANY SOUND (I COULDN'T TOO DURING THE TEST DRIVE) AND IT WOULD BE BETTER TO JUST LEAVE THE CAR ALONE THEN START DISASSEMBLING THE CAR WHEN THERE MIGHT BE NOTHING WRONG. THEY ALSO SAID THAT A COMPOUND OF MOIST AND DUST COULD MAKE THE SQUEAKING NOISE OCCASIONALLY. A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE REAR SIDE STARTED MAKING A RUMBLING SOUND WHEN I HIT THE BREAKS. I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER, AND THE SAID THE BRAKE PADS WERE GONE LEAVING METAL TO METAL CONTACT FOR THE BRAKES. THEY SAID THERE WAS A SENSOR THAT BROKE BUT HOW COULD I KNOW THE SQUEAKING SOUND WAS INDICATING TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS EVEN WHEN THE SERVICE GUY DIDN'T PICK IT UP? THEY SAY I HAVE TO PAY JUST UNDER $500 TO REPLACE EVERYTHING THAT WAS DAMAGED IN THE BRAKES, AND NO WARRANTY WOULD COVER IT. I DON'T THINK THIS IS A ONE-TIME THING, AND I FOUND A TON OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS IN THE INTERNET. IT'S ALSO WEIRD THAT THE FRONT BRAKE PADS WERE FINE, WHEN THEY ARE USUALLY KNOWN TO BRAKE EARLIER. THIS IS A BRAKE PROBLEM, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO SERIOUS ACCIDENTS. *TR

OBVIOUSLY, THERE IS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND HONDA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM AND TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY. ALSO THE FRONT DISC BRAKES WERE REPLACED AT 11K AND 19K. SOMETHING IS WRONG. LOOKS LIKE WE HAVE TO HAVE NEW BRAKES EVERY 15-20K AND ITS AT OUR EXPENSE.
