HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

THE ACCESSORY WAS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR MODEL YEAR 2008-2010 HONDA ACCORD 4-DOOR VEHICLES. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE NOSE MASK MATERIAL TO INTERFERE WITH PART OF THE HOOD LATCH. IF THE HOOD HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETELY CLOSED AND THE NOSE MASK INTERFERES WITH THE SECONDARY HOOD LATCH MECHANISM THE HOOD MAY POP OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN.
THIS MAY RESULT IN REDUCED DRIVER VISIBILITY THAT COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH.
HONDA IS ASKING OWNERS TO PLEASE REMOVE THE NOSE MASK IMMEDIATELY AND CALL ANY AUTHORIZED HONDA DEALER TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO RETURN THE NOSE MASK AND HAVE IT REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON MARCH 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

Power train, Aug 25, 2026
I am submitting this complaint regarding two separate front drive shaft/axle failures involving my 2009 Honda Accord while living and driving in [XXX], a state specifically identified by American Honda as a "salt belt" state in connection with its XXX recalls involving corrosion-related front drive shaft breakage. The front passenger-side drive shaft/axle on my 2009 Honda Accord snapped in XXX. The driver-side front drive shaft/axle subsequently broke on XXX. These were two separate failures involving both front sides of my vehicle and created a serious and potentially dangerous loss of vehicle operation. I am particularly concerned because my fiancée has experienced nearly identical failures involving her 2010 Honda Accord while we have been living and driving in the same [XXX] conditions. The driver-side front drive shaft/axle on her vehicle snapped on XXX, and the passenger-side front drive shaft/axle subsequently snapped onXXX. Thus, between our two Honda Accords, both front drive shafts/axles on each vehicle have failed, resulting in four separate front drive shaft/axle failures across two vehicles in the same household. Our experience is also concerning in light of multiple publicly reported complaints involving 2009 and 2010 Honda Accords describing front axle, CV axle, or driveshaft failures, including reports attributing such failures to salt corrosion. We are attaching one such complaint involving a 2010 Honda Accord as a representative example. I recognize that another consumer's complaint does not, by itself, establish the cause of my vehicle's failures or prove the existence of a defect. Nevertheless, the existence of multiple similar reports involving these model years is significant when considered together with the two separate front drive shaft/axle failures involving my vehicle, the two similar failures involving my fiancée's 2010 Honda Accord, and American Honda's prior acknowledgment. The contact owns a 2009 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that there was an engine misfire. In addition, the check engine warning light illuminated; however, the check engine warning light was no longer illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred almost every two months. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

While making a right turn from a stop sign on a side road and upward incline the vehicle lost power to the wheels and was unable to complete the turn onto a main road. Loss of ability to move the vehicle ( appeared to be in neutral ) posed a risk since there could have been traffic on the main road that could have caused an accident. The car could also have slid back to damage another car at the back. There was no accident in this case. Vehicle was towed to an independent service center - it was determined that the right side front axle shaft had broken-snapped "in the middle".

My daughter was in an accident on 9/28/2021 and the air bag exploded and she said it burned her but it was actually some type of metal. The vehicle was inspected by the insurance company. I ended up buying the vehicle back and when the car was delivered to the repairman, it was note that is was a faulty air bag. I am not sure about the other questions as it relates to warning lamps, ect.. It has been inspected by State Farm, the car is still in my possession. I was advised to report the airbag blowout. It was stated on my Market valuation Report under Supplemental information that HONDA is recalling certain 2003-2012 Honda Accord for incorrectly installed air bag may deploy improperly in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury. THE VTC ACTUATOR ON MY HONDA ACCORD HAS BEEN MAKING A RATTLING SOUND DURING AN ENGINE COLD STARTUP FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. AFTER CALLING THE CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE THEY STATED THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL AND THAT THIS PROBLEM WOULD NOT CAUSE ANY DAMAGE OR RELIABILITY ISSUES. HOWEVER, THE SOUND HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND THE OTHER DAY, WHILE DRIVING, MY WIFE LOST ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD; THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THE PROBLEM IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VTC ACTUATOR AND WE WILL NEED TO REPLACE THIS ACTUATOR WITH A REDESIGNED ACTUATOR AT A COST OF $1600(INCLUDING SUGGESTED PART CHANGES WHILE THE WORK IS BEING DONE). THE COST IS NOT IMPORTANT TO ME, IT IS THE SAFETY ASPECT OF THE SITUATION THAT'S TROUBLESOME. UPON ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE CAR HAS NO POWER MAKING IT UNSAFE TO MOVE OUT OF THE WAY OF APPROACHING TRAFFIC. THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF HESITATION BETWEEN SHIFTING GEARS UNTIL THE VEHICLE REACHES A LEVEL DRIVING SPEED. THERE IS A HARD DOWNSHIFT WHEN SLOWING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP OR EVEN JUST DECREASING THE SPEED. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT ENGINE NOISE DURING ACCELERATION UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION CHANGES GEARS. DRIVING UP A HILL FROM A STOP OR SLOW ROLL CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BARELY RESPOND AND THE RPMS REACH VERY HIGH LEVELS BEFORE THE GEARS CHANGE AND ACCELERATION IS ACHIEVED. *TR

MY CAR USES 1 QT OIL WEEKLY AND MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN STARTING. CHANGE OIL EVERY 7,000 MILES AND HAVE TO ADD 1 QUART WEEKLY. VSA & OIL LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN AFTER CLEARING THE ERROR CODES. REPLACED THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR WHICH MALFUNCTIONED WEEKS LATER. PEARSON HONDA & WEST BROAD HONDA, RICHMOND VA INFORMED ME THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. UNBELIEVABLE AFTER READING SO MANY BLOGS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FROM OTHER HONDA OWNERS. THIS MODEL HONDA IS A LEMON AND HONDA NEEDS TO REPAIR AT NO CHARGE TO THE OWNER. REPLACED WHEEL BEARING ON FRONT AND NOW THE REAR IS MAKING A LOUD NOISE. NEVER HAD A HONDA WITH THESE MANY ISSUES. WANTED TO TRADE IT FOR THE 2013 AND DEALER OFFERED ME $6,700 FOR A CAR I PAID $26,000 FOR. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! *TR

I WENT TO INDEPENDENCE HONDA AND ASKED AS TO WHY BETWEEN MAINTENANCE, I WAS HAVING TO ADD OIL. I WAS TOLD TO BRING IT BACK WHEN IT WAS NEEDED, AND HE WOULD DOCUMENT IT. COME TO FIND OUT, THEY WERE DOING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. INDEPENDENCE HONDA CLOSED AND IS NOW LEGENDS HONDA. HE TOLD ME TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WOULD FIX IT. GAVE ME A LOANER CAR. CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO DO A OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. THEY CLAIM THEY ONLY PUT IN ABOUT A QUART PER 1000 MILES. REGARDLESS OF WHAT MY DIP STICK SHOWS. I WILL JUST NEED TO WATCH MY OIL. I'VE HAD TO HAVE MY SPARK PLUGS REPLACED TWICE IN THE YEAR. HONDA CONTINUES TO ACTIVELY CONCEAL THE DEFECT FROM CONSUMERS AND DENY THERE'S A KNOWN PROBLEM. *JB
