I own a 2010 Honda Accord. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle jerks, and fails to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal on the hwy. The check engine warning light VSA is on. In 2022, I had Honda replace the engine, However, just after the warrenty expired, I started to experince the same issues. The vehicle has been sitting since 2023, and so I have it in the shop now (2026). He has replaced the spark plugs but there is misfire code for cylindars 1 and 2. The mechanic states that it's an engine issue. The vehicle was had been diagnosed and repaired on multple occassions. A scanner has been used mutiple times to retrieved a code for a misfire in the engine. Replaced the engine, time and chain, spark plugs, catalac converter, ignition coil. Mileage is 165,000
Engine, Mar 1, 2026
When driving at a normal speed, like 55mph, I’ll still be pushing on the gas pedal and it will drop down to 15mph on its own, then stall. It’s happened several times. I was sitting at a traffic light, went to turn left, pushed on the gas pedal, started to go, then just died. Someone told me they had a car like mine, and it does the same thing, another friend said his 2012 four door accord just had it happen to his when he was turning left, he pushed on the gas and it started to go, then died, he was hit and it totaled his car. He said it would happen to him all the time, but couldn’t afford a new car. Someone told him that it’s the eco system, that it happens all the time with the Honda accords. If this is true, Honda needs to recall them, there’s a lot of them still on the roads.

1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The engine piston rings failed or malfunctioned. These parts were previously replaced under a Honda recall in 2018 due to excessive oil consumption. The same issue has returned — the vehicle is again burning oil. The engine and related components remain available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? The excessive oil consumption can cause low engine oil levels, which may lead to engine damage or stalling while driving. A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of an accident, especially at highway speeds or in traffic. Additionally, the burning oil produces smoke that can obstruct visibility for the driver and nearby vehicles. im scared it might damager my life or the life of others. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes. The issue was confirmed by a Honda dealership, which verified that the vehicle is consuming excessive oil. However, they stated that the vehicle is no longer covered under warranty, despite the same issue being repaired under the 2018 recall. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes. The Honda dealership (manufacturer’s authorized representative) inspected the vehicle and confirmed the oil consumption problem. It has not been inspected by police or insurance representatives. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Yes. The vehicle displayed low oil level warnings, and I had to add oil between scheduled oil changes. These symptoms reappeared around 2021, approximately three years after the piston rings were replaced under the recall.

While backing out of my garage, my daughter observed flames coming out from the front center of the hood. I then put the car into park, and we got out of the car. I opened the hood, and observed smoke coming out of the alternator, and flames coming from the lower engine area. I then went into my garage to get my fire extinguisher, and put out the flames. I then phoned a towing service to transport my 2010 Honda Accord to the Mobil Station at 12 mile and Farmington Roads where I normally have my Honda serviced. I then telephoned my mechanic at the Mobil station to let him know that the two truck would deliver my car to him shortly. My mechanic then recommended replacing the alternator and started, which I agreed to. The next repair was to replace the engine wiring in my Honda Accord, which did not repair the vehicle. After 8-9 days, could not repair my 2010 Honda Accord, On October 8, 2024 my neighbor and I visited Suburban Honda in Farmington Hills, and were told to contact Honda America to open a case, which we did. After phoning 800-999-1009, and sharing the details of the engine compartment fire, an official Honda case [XXX] was opened to document the engine fire in my 2010 Honda Accord. I have a 2010 Accord coupe I notice ac/heat vent problems and a leak in the coolant inside the passenger floor/console area. So I researched it and saw this Manufacturer Communication ID: 10120775 says: In this service bulletin, Honda alerted dealerships that the driver’s side vent may produce a lower level of heat than what is coming from the front passenger’s vent. The most common cause is that the car’s heater core is partially clogged. When this happens, it can cause the heater's performance to fail. The company instructed dealerships that encounter this problem to flush the heater core to resolve it. No recall has been issued, but dealerships should know how to handle this problem. I will reach out to Honda dealerships in my area to see what happens.

This past week I experienced a catastrophic malfunction with the vehicle, while driving it appeared to short circuit and shut down. It would not allow me to drive in any gear whatsoever. Upon taking it to a mechanic at Jiffy Lube he stated the incident is identical and experienced the same issues that Honda and the Dept of Transportation deemed a recall that could have ended in severe injury or death. That issue and recall being (see below) Powertrain:Auto Transmission Control Module (TCM,PCM). You see the mechanic at Jiffy Lube referred me to this recall due to his analysis and diagnosis being the same. Whom stated that the vin doesn't state a recall, but it being the exact same model, make, engine, year, and coupled with the fact that it has TCM and PCM catastrophic damage, I was subjected to and encountered. I request this matter be further researched and investigation conducted because 1.5 million vehicles were effected and I'd feel more confident and place more faith in Honda upon investigation.

SAME NOISE CONTINUES. 05-2019 - 97,386 MILEAGE TOOK TO DEALER BECAUSE NOISE AND LIGHT ON DASH DEALER SAID NO OIL AND BASED ON WHAT I TOLD SERVICE ADVISOE - ERICK GOMEZ- CAR MISSED THE RECALL DATE FOR BURNING OIL AND NEEDS PISTON RINGS THAT COSTS FEW THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. SINCE THAT DATE I HAVE TO CHECK THE OIL TWO OR THREE TIMES A WEEK AND POUR OIL IF NEED IT BEFORE THE 2,500 OR 3,000 MILEAGE I TOLD HIM THAT EVERY TIME I WENT TO HONDA WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THEY LIED TO ME IN REGARDS OF DIAGNOSIS OF THE PROBLEM AND I WAS SPENDING MONEY, TIME, STRESS, FRUSTRATION WITHOUT RESULTS. THE HONDA DEALER HAS BEEN NEGLIGENT AND PROCASTINATES IN REGARDS OF THE RECALL ON THE CAR FOR BURNING OIL. THE PROBLEM WAS THERE AND THEY WERE GUESSING ON SOLVE IT, BECAUSE THEY KNEW ABOUT OTHER CARS. ON 10-10-2020 MY FRIEND WAS HELPING ME TO CHECK THE OIL, I TOLD HIM ABOUT MY HONDA PROBLEMS AND WE DECIDED TO LOOK ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE RECALL. THIS IS NOT MY FIRST HONDA, ON 2008 I BOUGHT AT THE SAME DEALER A HONDA ACCORD; I DO NOT RECALL BUT I THINK WAS A 2007 THAT I DROVE FOR FEW YEARS AND I SOLD IT WITHOUT THIS KIND OF PROBLEMS. THE DEALER HAS THAT FILE. I HAD A HONDA CIVIC - WITHOUT THIS KIND OF PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT HONDA BECAUSE QUALITY AND LOW COST REPAIRS. I AM A SINGLE 58 YEARS OLD WOMAN LOOKING FOR JUSTICE. I CALLED NHTSA AND THE PERSON GAVE ME THE CASE NUMER 11364385

ON A ROAD TRIP TO MASS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS AND CAR RUNS POORLY. STOP AT THE NEAREST HONDA, GARBER HONDA IN ROCHESTER, NY. FIRST MADE AWARE OF RECALL. GARBER SAYS REPAIR IS MADE AND IS COVERED UNDER RECALL PROGRAM. I WAS ADVISED TO RETURN IF PROBLEM COMES BACK AND TOLD I HAD UNLIMITED MILES TO DO SO. CAR CONTINUES TO CONSUME OIL. I WAS UNAWARE THAT THE CONSUMPTION WAS PART OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY CAMPAIGN REGARDING THE NUMBER 2 CYLINDER. 26 OCTOBER - 9 NOVEMBER 2018 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STARTS TO BLINK AND CAR RUNS POORLY. ON THE ROAD I TAKE IT TO THE NEAREST HONDA, LIA HONDA OF WILLIAMSVILLE, NY. NUMBER 2 PLUG FOULED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THE WARRANTY CAMPAIGN HAD ENDED AND I HAD TO BRING IN ALL THE MAINTENANCE RECORDS TO QUALIFY FOR A 'GOOD WILL' REPAIR. I FAX AND CALLED NORTHTOWN BUT RECORDS FROM PREVIOUS YEARS NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO DEALERSHIP BUYOUT. I PAID TO HAVE SPARK PLUG REPLACED. I SPENT 3 WEEKS EXCHANGING EMAILS WITH ADRIAN BONSEY AT LIA TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. IN MY FINAL FOLLOW UP HE MENTIONS HE HAD CLEARED THE EXCHANGE OF EMAILS FROM HIS SYSTEM. I GO ONLINE AND RESEARCH THE ISSUE DISCOVERING THE WARRANTY CAMPAIGN LETTER, A LETTER I HAD NEVER BEEN GIVEN BEFORE.I AM UNABLE TO GET MY EMISSIONS DONE FOR THE STATE OF NY DUE TO A NEARLY ALWAYS ON CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I CONSUME 2 - 3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES AND FOUL OUT A PLUG EVERY FEW MONTHS. I THINK HONDA OWES ME A REPAIR SINCE THE PREVIOUS REPAIR DID NOT RESOLVE THE KNOWN ISSUE.

DURING A COLD START, AND CAR IS STATIONARYTHE ENGINE RATTLES FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS. I HAVE FOUND OUT PER THE DEALER, THAT THIS PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY THE VTC ACTUATOR. APPARENTLY THIS PARTICULAR MAKE AND MODEL HAS THIS PROBLEM. HONDA HAS ALWAYS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND CLAIMS THAT THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE ACTUATOR AT A COST OF AROUND 900.00 DOLLARS.HOWEVER THEY CLAIM THAT THIS MAY NOT EVEN CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HONDA WAS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT ANNOUNCED A SO CALLED RECALL KNOWING THAT THIS RECALL WOULD NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. IT WAS STRICTLY TO COVER THEIR LIABILITY. I FEEL THAT HONDA SHOULD CORRECT THIS PROBLEM FOR MY 2010 HONDA ACCORD AT NO COST TO CONSUMERS. HONDA CORPORATION WAS ALWAYS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND STILL CONTINUED TO SELL THIS PARTICULAR MODEL TO CONSUMERS.
