Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, driveline, driveshaftJun 19, 2025

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission. The affected vehicles were originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The driveshaft may corrode and break, due to damage from road salt or other contaminants.

A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will inspect and replace the driveshaft assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 11, 2025. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is OM2. This recall expands previous recall number 20V769.

  2. Fuel system, gasoline, delivery, fuel pumpDec 18, 2023

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2023 Honda Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline, Odyssey, Acura ILX, MDX, MDX Hybrid, RDX, RLX, TLX, 2019-2022 Honda Insight, Passport, 2020 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2018-2019 Honda Clarity PHEV, Fit, and 2015-2020 Honda Accord Hybrid, Pilot, Acura NSX vehicles. The fuel pump inside the fuel tank may fail.

Fuel pump failure can cause an engine stall while driving, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the fuel pump module, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed September 6, 2024. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are KGC and KGD. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall numbers 21V-215 and 20V-314.

  3. Power train, driveline, driveshaftDec 10, 2020

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts' protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.

A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing both the left and right drive shafts, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 4, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

  4. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v batteryJun 29, 2017

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Honda Accord vehicles. The case for the battery sensor, part of the battery management system, may allow water to get in, potentially causing an electrical short.

An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sensor, free of charge. Dealers will perform an interim remedy of applying adhesive to the case to prevent water intrusion. The recall began November 8, 2017. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KG0.

  5. Fuel system, gasolineJul 8, 2013

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (Honda) is recalling certain model year 2013 Accord vehicles that are Low-Emission Vehicle (LEV) II rated that were manufactured January 15, 2013, through April 5, 2013. The fuel tank neck may be out of specification causing the fuel pump to not properly seal to the fuel tank.

An insufficent seal may led to a fuel leak which increases the risk of a fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the fuel tank, nut and O-ring gasket free of charge. The recall began during August 2013. Honda's recall number is JA9. Owners may contact Honda at 1-310-783-2000.

  1. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Sep 16, 2022

Their is an issue when trying to start the vehicle. When the ignition button is pressed, the engine does not start. Instead, their is a grinding and whirring sound. I believe this is coming from the starter. It takes 3-4 attempts to start the car. Their are numerous complaints on many forums about this issue.

  2. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Jul 20, 2022

Car is just randoming not starting, having to get it jumped to start it & pistons are knocking!

  3. Other or unspecified, Jun 21, 2022

The paint is peeling on my 2013 Honda Accord. This seems to be an ongoing issue with the white orchid paint.

  4. Electrical system, Structure, Other or unspecified, May 13, 2022

My vehicle trunk randomly unlatches and opens. The trunk does both while driving and when parked. The key fob button to open the trunk is not pressed or in range during these incidents. This is a safety concern in that if can block my rearward view. It is also an inconvenience since it can lead to theft of contents and the car.

  5. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Apr 18, 2022

Bought the car in 2013, and around 2015 it started having intermittent problems starting the car. After about 5-6 tries it would start normally and everything would be fine for couple of months. This went on all the way up to this year 2022. At least 6 different times of having my car inspected for this, they could not determine a cause. Come today, it won't start again, and after numerous times it won't start at all. After reading through many numerous owners having the same issues on Accord forums, Reddit and YouTube, the obvious cause is the starter is prone to failure. I am now trying to figure out a way to have my car towed to the dealer and dreading the cost of replacement for the starter including labor costs (when I've done everything pro-active to try to find the cause of this issue). I am sure I am not covered under any equipment warranty for this (but I sure was when I first reported this to them from 2015-2022.

  6. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Jan 4, 2022, crash

When pulling into my driveway, the dash lights suddenly all turned on, and the engine started racing causing the car to crash into my house.

  7. Other or unspecified, Jul 26, 2021

For several years, the starter has been work sporadically. This started in 2014. It has progressively gotten worse. I cant count on the car to start.

  8. Other or unspecified, May 15, 2021

DIFFERENT DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE ORIGINAL OWNERSHIP IN 2012. POWER LOCK SUDDENLY DOES NOT ACTUATE WITH REMOTE NOR DRIVER SIDE CONTROL. ONLY PHYSICAL ACTUATION OF LOCK ENGAGES OR DISENGAGES LOCK

  9. Steering, Air bags, Other or unspecified, May 12, 2021, crash, fire

MY 2013 ACCORD SPORT SUDDENLY VEERED LEFT ON IT'S OWN AND I HIT A TELEPHONE POLE BREAKING IT IN HALF. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR IS A TOTAL LOSS AND I AM INJURED. I WAS DRIVING IN A STRAIGHT LINE WHEN THIS HAPPENED.

  10. Other or unspecified, Feb 18, 2021

I HAVE NOT OWNED THE CAR IN QUESTION SINCE MAY 2016 AFTER THIS CAR WAS TOTALED IN AN ACCIDENT AND I KEEP GETTING CALLS FROM HONDA OF PASADENA (PASADENA, CA). THE PROCESS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE SAYS THAT THE MANUFACTURER CONTACTS CAR OWNERS TO NOTIFY THEM OF SAFETY RECALLS CORRECT? ARE DEALERS ALLOWED TO USE MY PERSONAL PHONE NUMBER/DATA TO SOLICIT ME FOR THESE REPAIRS MULTIPLE TIMES LIKE THIS? I MEAN, THE NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER APPEARS TO BE ENOUGH; THIS WILL ALLOW THE CUSTOMER TO CHOOSE THE DEALERSHIP ON THEIR OWN. THE PRACTICE OF THE DEALERSHIP REACHING OUT TO ME IS MORE LIKE AN UNETHICAL PRACTICE TO BAIT CUSTOMERS INTO GETTING REPAIR MONEY FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THIS IS IN FACT BAITING. PLEASE HELP AND RESPOND AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

  11. Other or unspecified, Feb 15, 2021

WHEN I PUSH THE START BUTTON IT DOESN'T ALWAYS START - GET A GRINDING NOISE.

  12. Other or unspecified, Oct 26, 2020

CAR WILL NOT START EVEN WITH THE KEY FOB INSIDE THE CAR. KEY FOB HAS NEW BATTERY, CAR BATTERY IS FINE AS WELL. BRINGING THE FOB CLOSE TO THE START BUTTON OCCASIONALLY STARTS THE CAR. SIMILAR ISSUE WAS RECALLED IN EARLIER MODELS, NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR LATER VINS

  13. Other or unspecified, Oct 19, 2020

ACCORDING TO UBER, THIS VEHICLE [XXX] HAS BEEN SALVAGED OR HAS A REBUILT TITLE. THE DEALER DOES NOT AGREE AND CARFAX REPORT DENIES BEING INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT IN THE PAST. PER UBER " UBER WILL BE NOTIFIED BY NHTSA AND REACTIVATE THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

REAR VIEW CAMERA GOES COMPLETELY BLACK ONLY SHOWING GUILDANCE LINES

  15. Other or unspecified, Sep 21, 2020

I AM GETTING ERROR READINGS ON MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD EXL, V6 THAT THE FCW HAS FAILED WHICH IS CAUSING OTHER ERROR LIGHTS (TIRE PRESSURE, TRACTION, ETC). I HAVE ONLY 65,000 MILES ON THIS CAR. SHOULD THIS FAILURE OCCUR AT THIS SMALL MILEAGE? SHOULD THIS NOT BE A RECALL ISSUE?

  16. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Jul 9, 2020

WHEN I FIRST PURCHASED MY 2013 HONDA ACCORD FROM THE DEALERSHIP I NOTICED SOMETIMES THE PUSH START WOULD STALL OR SOUND LIKE IT WAS FAILING. ALSO MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO MY KEY FOB. ALL OTHER DOORS RESPOND TO IT EXCEPT THE DRIVER DOOR. I HAVE REPLACED THE BATTERY AND STILL THE ISSUE HASN'T BEEN RESOLVED. I HAVE BEEN TAKING THE ACTUAL KEY OUT OF THE FOB AND INSERTING IT INTO THE CAR DOOR TO UNLOCK MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR. NOW THE AC HAS BEGAN TO STOP AND START. IT ALMOST SOUNDS LIKE THE FAN MOTOR IS KICKING ON AND OFF. AND MY DRIVER SIDE SEAT IS NOT SLIDING BACK PROPERLY. IT WILL BEGAN TO GLIDE THEN STOP. THEN I HAVE TO KEEP PRESSING AND IT'LL GLIDE BACK A LITTLE AND THEN STOP AGAIN. OVERALL I THINK THERE IS SOME SORT OF ELECTRICAL SHORTAGE OR SOMETHING IS HAPPENING WITH IT. ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM RECALL SENT OUT JUNE 29, 2017. AS STATED ON THEIR WEBSITE THIS COULD RESULT IN AN ELECTRICAL SHORT INCREASES THE RISK OF A FIRE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID IS 17V418000 !

  17. Other or unspecified, May 10, 2020

I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AT 50MPH AND SUDDENLY FELT MY CAR SLIGHTLY JERK AND MAKE A POPPING NOISE. I DID NOT SEE ANY OBSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO THIS, EVEN THOUGH IT FELT LIKE I HAD RUN OVER A TREE BRANCH. I PULLED OVER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND EVERYTHING ON MY CAR SEEMED FINE UNTIL I SAW MY SUNROOF WAS SHATTERED. THE MIDDLE PART HAD COMPLETELY BROKEN OFF WHILE THE REST OF THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. IT LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING HAD FALLEN OUT OF THE SKY AND HIT IT, ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT FEEL LIKE ANYTHING HAD BOUNCED OFF MY CAR WHILE DRIVING. THE SUNROOF DOOR HAD BEEN CLOSED AND I RARELY OPEN IT (THE LAST TIME I USED IT WAS AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AGO). *TR

  18. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Feb 26, 2020

THE CAR HAS INTERMITTENT STARTING ISSUES. I HAVE HAD THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR CHANGED AND CHECKED AND THERE APPEAR TO BE NO ISSUES THERE. ONLINE FORUMS SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A ENDEMIC STARTER ISSUE WITH HONDA ACCORDS. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL START WITH EASE. OTHER TIMES IT WILL NOT START AT ALL. WHEN IT DOES NOT START I HAVE TO JUMP IT, BUT WHEN I TAKE IT TO THE AUTO SHOP AFTERWARDS THEY TELL ME THAT THERE ARE NO APPARENT ISSUES WITH THE BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR.

  19. Other or unspecified, Aug 11, 2019

2013 HONDA ACCORD IS FAILING TO START. PUSH STARTER BUTTON AND IT WILL NOT START, THEN AGAIN AND WILL NOT START, THEN AGAIN AND IT WILL START. BEGINNING TO OCCUR MORE FREQUENTLY. HAVE A NEW BATTERY AND CHECKED ALTERNATOR AND EVERYTHING FINE.THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME I WAS TRYING TO START IT.

  20. Other or unspecified, Jul 30, 2019

I OWN A 2013 (BOUGHT NEW) WITH 45000 MILES ON IT. THE STARTER WENT OUT AND THE TORQUE CONVERTER NEEDS REPLACED AS WELL. IT A BEAUTIFUL CAR AND ITS WAY TO SOON TO BE HAVING THESE ISSUES. THE CAR WON'T START AND MAKES A GRINDING NOISE.

  21. Other or unspecified, Jul 24, 2019

REARVIEW CAMERA SCREEN IS BLACK WHEN I PUT CAR IN REVERSE

  22. Other or unspecified, Jun 3, 2019

A FEW DAYS AFTER THE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED THE CAR WOULD NOT START WHEN I PRESSED THE START BUTTON. IT WENT INTO ACCESSORY MODE INSTEAD OF STARTING. EVERY DAY SINCE THEN IT HAS INTERMITTENTLY STARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. IT SOMETIMES REQUIRES FOUR, FIVE OR MORE ATTEMPTS TO START THE ENGINE. WE REPLACED THE BATTERY ON MAY 4, 2019. THE INTERMITTENT STARTS CONTINUE. I FOUND SEVERAL INTERNET SITES THAT LIST OTHER 2013 HONDA ACCORD OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NO POSITIVE SOLUTIONS.

  23. Other or unspecified, Apr 30, 2019

WHEN STARTING PUSHING THE START BUTTON THE CAR WONT START UNTIL AFTER A FEW TRIES, I EVEN BROUGHT A NEW BATTERY AND THAT'S NOT THE PROBLEM.. I HAVE ABOUT A LITTLE OVER 77 THOUSAND MILES.. THIS IS HAPPENING MORE AND MORE.

  24. Other or unspecified, Apr 24, 2019
