Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, driveline, driveshaftJun 19, 2025

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013 Honda Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission. The affected vehicles were originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The driveshaft may corrode and break, due to damage from road salt or other contaminants.

A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will inspect and replace the driveshaft assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 11, 2025. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is OM2. This recall expands previous recall number 20V769.

  3. Power train, driveline, driveshaftDec 10, 2020

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2015 Accord vehicles equipped with a 4-cylinder engine and a continuously-variable transmission that were originally sold, or ever registered, in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. The drive shafts were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts' protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, and potentially cause it to break.

A broken drive shaft may cause a sudden loss of drive power. The vehicle could also roll away if the parking brake has not been applied before the vehicle has been exited. Either condition can increase the risk of a crash or injury.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the drive shafts, replacing both the left and right drive shafts, if necessary, free of charge. The recall began February 4, 2021. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138.

  4. Electrical system, 12v/24v/48v batteryJun 29, 2017

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2013-2016 Honda Accord vehicles. The case for the battery sensor, part of the battery management system, may allow water to get in, potentially causing an electrical short.

An electrical short increases the risk of a fire.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the sensor, free of charge. Dealers will perform an interim remedy of applying adhesive to the case to prevent water intrusion. The recall began November 8, 2017. Owners may contact American Honda Customer Support Center at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is KG0.

  1. Electrical system, Sep 18, 2024

The ABS system went out. All the lights in the dashboard is on. The module was on back order for months and it’s cost $2500. Why should I have to pay for a faulty electrical system that my actions had no bearing on?

  2. Steering, Sep 16, 2024

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH and slowing to exit the highway, the steering wheel was turned to the right and seized. The vehicle was towed to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the EPS torque sensor had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact researched online and related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 15-056 EPS Torque Sensor (Steering). The contact had spoken to the dealer and to the manufacturer but was informed that the vehicle was no longer covered under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 115,008.

  3. Power train, Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Sep 7, 2024

The ABS module failure has caused all my dash boards lights to remain on making the lan assist and calibration impossible to complete. This needs to be investigated for all Honda accords from 2012 - 2018. I have had several mechanics say this should be recalled due to its occurrence. The other issue is the timing belt slips without any wrecks due to being poorly built.

  4. Electrical system, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 6, 2024

Car started to show FWC lights, LDW lights, steering warning, Traction control. Inspected by two mechanics and say the codes come back to ABS module defect.

  5. Service brakes, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 3, 2024

Component VSA ANTI LOCK ABS PUMP MODULATOR 57110-T2F-A1 malfunction. Circuit board wiring inside of modulator has loose/dismantled wires causing complete failure of ABS system for vehicle. This is a widely know problem amongst 9th generation Honda Accords and Honda has yet to issue a recall here in the United States.

  6. Fuel system, Gasoline, Aug 30, 2024

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who stated that the failure was due to the fuel pump. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that there was no recall on the VIN. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

  7. Electrical system, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 27, 2024

Code 123_11 for bad ABS module. Lights that turn on within the dashboard are: Front Crash Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), TPMS, Traction Control, and Electronic Power steering. This issue is common within this generation of Accord and Honda needs to issue a recall.

  8. Steering, Aug 25, 2024

Power steering failed without warning which is extremely dangerous and could possibly cause a fatality.

  9. Electronic stability control (ESC), Aug 23, 2024

The contact owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the front tire and the steering wheel were vibrating abnormally. Additionally, there was a burning odor coming from the front tire. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a failed Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) module. The contact was informed that the VSA module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the VSA module had failed. The contact was informed that the VSA module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 163,993.

  10. Steering, Aug 20, 2024

Steering wheel will pull left and want to keep going left. Have to really pull steering wheel right to keep car straight. This is a known problem on 2013 Honda accords. This almost caused an accident on the road. I am bringing it to Honda but it's a known problem and should be recalled. I know the 2012 models had the issue and they were recalled.

  11. Power train, Aug 19, 2024

On [XXX], my CV axle broke. I was stopped at a stoplight and when the light turned green, I stepped on the accelerator, then heard a VERY loud “clunk” and my car didn’t move. I shifted into all of the other gears, but it didn’t move. I shifted it into Park and called AAA. They dispatched a tow truck driver, who arrived about 45 minutes later. He engaged the emergency brake, after checking under the car and informing me that the driver’s side CV axle had broken, which prevents the car from actually being able to shift into Park. He towed the car to an independent mechanic. Both the tow truck driver and the mechanic said it’s quite uncommon for a CV axle to break. I was about 1/2 mile from getting on the freeway and luckily I didn’t make it that far, because it could have been much worse during rush hour traffic. As it was, I was blocking a lane of traffic at the stoplight. I have both pieces of the driver’s side CV axle in my possession. No one other than the tow truck driver and mechanic have inspected it, yet. I had no warning at all that the axle was about to break. While doing some online research to find out the likelihood of the passenger side CV axle breaking, I came across a recall notice for the drive shaft of certain 2013-2015 Accords in salt belt states. My VIN search showed that my car wasn’t part of this recall and a call to a Honda dealer confirmed this. I’m puzzled, since we live in Wisconsin. Might the recall need to be expanded? 12. Steering, Electrical system, Engine, Aug 10, 2024

I was driving into a parking spot and the car started flickering, the screen turned off and the steering locked and would not allow me to move the car at all even though it was in drive.

  13. Electrical system, Aug 2, 2024

The car has just over 91,000 miles on it and the push button start is working only intermittently. I know I’m not the only one because the online forums are full of started problems with these. It’s my only car and Honda has known for years it is a problem with these.

  14. Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Jul 31, 2024

All the lights on my dash came on associated with the abs module fail.. it also affected my alternator as i believe the car is working to hard. The barks are weird the car drives sluggish. My lights cone on and off.. when they are off the car drives just fine. Many accords have this issue and no parts can be found. Something is not right

  15. Other or unspecified, Jul 28, 2024

Honda Accord 2013 All Lights On ABS, Traction Control, Steering Wheel and TPMS lights

  16. Electrical system, Jul 26, 2024

The ABS module is malfunctioning which is a common issue with this car and should have been recalled many years ago.

  17. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 26, 2024

Apparentlhy, many VSA Modulator Contol Unit on the ABS on the Honda accords from 2013-2017 have failures right now. My car has the same issue. Took it to the dealership and the guy working there even said this should be a recall. A lot of the honda accords have been having this same issue. All the warning lights on the dash light up and its because of the bad ABS module going bad. I really think honda should take responsibility on this. It is costing me approximately $3000 to fix at the dealership since they have to make connections and bleed all brakes during swap. A number of YouTube videos point to the hair thin connector to card connections as the failure point.

  18. Steering, Jul 24, 2024

Power steering cuts in and out. Steering becomes stiff and power to turn is not one smooth motion

  19. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 18, 2024

When starting the engine and while driving at speeds of 60+MPH, Malfunction lamp, FCW, VSA, LDW, Low tire pressure (TPMS), ECON mode, and EPS warning lights come on and vehicles slows to 10 MPH. Vehicle will remain in this condition until restarted which may or may not resolve the issue. Car will drive but not at speed desired and vehicles appears/sounds as if it is trying to change gears but cannot. The car continues to try to slow down to lower speeds.

  20. Steering, Jul 15, 2024

The steering wheel of Honda Accord ex 2013 suddenly malfunctioned. It becomes heavy and stiff. It can not come back to the center automatically after left turn. We brought the car to our local Honda dealer. They diagnosed the car and told us the car "NEEDS EPS GEAR BOX ONLY ". They said "NOT RELATED TO THE WARRANTY EXTENSION $3905 PLUS TAX AND SHOP SUPPLIES". There is not warning when the engine of the car is turned on. My car had less than 68K miles when this happened on 07/13/2024.

  21. Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 11, 2024

I’ve been to many auto shops including the Honda dealer and they all say my vehicle needs to have the fuel pump replaced. I’ve replaced it more than 5 times. My car stalls and will not accelerate the way it should and is a safety hazard. I am unable to drive the vehicle but it’s the only car I have. I’ve heard similar stories from family members that have the same vehicle. Fortunately they were able to purchase a newer vehicle. Not my case though. There were no warning lights prior to this. My car wouldn’t turn on one day so we changed the battery then it wouldn’t drive and then it started to stall and if driven it won’t accelerate the way it should. My car has been like this since 2022. I’ve called the dealership and they won’t look into it. There is an open recall for the coupe version of my car but they say my car isn’t on the list.

  22. Steering, Jul 8, 2024

The contact's mother owns a 2013 Honda Accord. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The driver was able to pull over to the side of the road. The driver turned off and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the power steering control module (PSCM) had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not covered under an unknown recall campaign. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

  23. Steering, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 6, 2024

The VSA Modulator on the 2013 Ex-L manual transmission has failed. It illuminated 7 lights. Steering light, abs, FCW, BRAKE, ABS, LDW, Traction Control. The abs modulator internally shuts off all systems within this car. The car is not able to pass inspection because of safety issues. After looking for a used part, i realized there were many complaints on this particular make and model. I am scared to drive the car with these issues, and with 1000s of cars having the same issue with the same part, i would think Honda would correct the issue without spending $1,000’s. There were no symptoms prior. It seems that the internal soldering on the VSA modulator has been coming apart, shutting down the system.

  24. Electrical system, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 1, 2024

The ABS/VSA Module failure: Tire pressure, traction control, steering, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) dash lights come on; the vehicle is available for inspection upon request, pending recall or private repair. The safety of the driver, passengers, and outside parties is at risk in case of brake failure or brake locking in a situation where the LDW or FCW has failed to alert the driver of a pending collision. The dealer conducted a diagnostic service on the morning of 07/01/2024 indicating ABS Module and Brake Flush, codes 81.19 and 81.20, with a repair cost of $2,385.49 for the ABS Module part and labor of 4.95 ($3335.49) and Brake Flush labor of .8 ($179.95) for a total cost of $3,575.44. The vehicle or parts have not been inspected by police, insurance representatives, or others, although Galpin Honda performed the above diagnostic. The vehicle dashboard lights mentioned above come on shortly after driving the vehicle at times, with the lights alternating between on and off at any given start-up—they can light up or be off at start-up/drive-off.

  25. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Jun 27, 2024

My vehicle dash has been displaying the TPMS light (blinking then solid), Power Steering, Traction control light for the past year to two. I have checked my tire pressure they are to specifications the sensors are fine, my traction control does not respond to the button in the car to enable or disable the traction control. I thankfully have not yet lost power steering but the light is on. I had researched the problem and have found several and I mean several honda accord owners all with the same problem. Only yesterday did my ABS light on my dash turned on and has consistently stayed on (on occasion would turn off like the others but then reappear). Based on internet searches and forums all things point to a faulty ABS module, a module countless honda accord owners have indicated Honda is aware of such fault and expect honda owners to pay an exorbitant amount of money to repair it when its a model wide issue. The danger this poses is the uncertainty of the reliability of these features that are meant to keep motorists safe. To make matters worse I am concerned about the safety of my family with a toddler and infant when riding my vehicle. This is not something that broke down due to negligence on the vehicle owners part. This is a manufacturer issue that affects every single honda accord from 2013 through 2022. To make matters worse when people tried to get the ABS module fixed its unavailable. Honda needs to repair all these modules and a recall needs to be issued. This is unacceptable. I will be very hesitant to buy another Honda again.
