Representative owner complaints: electrical system

292 reports, newest first. Show all

  1. Electrical system, Back over prevention, Jan 6, 2026

I am submitting this as a formal and urgent complaint regarding serious safety issues with a vehicle I recently purchased. The trunk opens on its own while I am driving, which creates an immediate safety hazard. In addition, the backup camera is malfunctioning, further increasing the risk when reversing or parking. Shortly after reporting the trunk issue, the radio also stopped working. I have contacted the dealership regarding these concerns, but no corrective action has been taken. Given that this vehicle was recently purchased and involves active safety risks, this lack of response is unacceptable. I am requesting immediate inspection and repair of these issues, as well as written confirmation of how the dealership plans to resolve this matter promptly. Please consider this issue urgent due to the safety risks involved. I look forward to your immediate response.

  2. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Dec 26, 2025

The car will have all lights on dashboard showing, car has been taken multiple times to dealership and nothing seems to be wrong but this cause all safety features to malfunction. I have talked with other Honda owners, on forums and acquaintances and they have similar issues.

  3. Power train, Electrical system, Service brakes, Dec 22, 2025

Honda needs to recall all the newer vehicles starting with 2018 to 2024. All lights on the dashboard is on and while I’m on highway, the car would apply the brake itself and when I released my foot from the pedal, the car run smoothly again. I took the car to Honda dealership last year and I was charged over 1500 dollars, still the car is having the same issue. This is frustrating. Today, the car is showing the camera like I was trying to back up, even though the car was on drive mode. Unbelievable.

  4. Steering, Electrical system, Service brakes, Dec 10, 2025

While driving, the power steering warning came on and the steering wheel became extremely tight, making it very difficult to turn. This has happened more than once, most recently on December 8, 2025. The loss of steering assist occurred while the vehicle was in motion and created a serious safety concern. The dealership retrieved diagnostic code C1250-52, which indicates an internal malfunction of the electric brake booster ECU. The steering issue and warning occurred again after the initial diagnosis. The system appears to fail intermittently and without warning. I have owned multiple Honda Accord vehicles over the years and have never experienced anything like this. Sudden loss of steering assist while driving is a safety defect, and similar issues have been reported by other owners of 2018–2022 Honda Accord models.

  5. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Dec 8, 2025

All my warning lights keep coming on in dashboard and my car isn’t accelerating in cold weather after sitting overnight

  6. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 20, 2025

Car has lost power or gone into "limp mode" while driving on multiple occasions. Car was never listed under the fuel pump recall but had all associated symptoms & problems. Had to have fuel pumps replaced in December 2023 due to car not starting because of faulty fuel pumps. Car has been properly maintenced since purchased brand new in February 2018. currently around 121,000 miles. Car overheated this past summer, Coolant seems to be leaking somewhere as just filled with coolant month ago and needed to refill with about quarter to refill to correct amount. Oil also seems to be having slow leakage problem somewhere within the engine as there is excessive oil on drip pan. Had all 4 spark plugs changed in March of 2025. Car has been going into limp mode and looses power for few seconds to minutes sometimes, almost causing multiple accidents while driving on highways. Pull over to shut off and give few minutes to restart and able to resume driving No warnings before this occurs. Randomly all dashboard lights light up 2 weeks ago and put car into limp mode, was driving on highway at high rate of speed (65mph) safety was compromised several times while this occurs. Engine seems create knocking sounds to known due to oil dilution problem. Cold weather seems to affect issues to onset more often. Also been having stalled or rough start ups in colder weather or when engine is not warmed up. Researching these issues seems to be that 2018 Honda Accords had known head gasket failure. This should become a class action lawsuit and also a recall

  7. Electrical system, Engine, Nov 17, 2025

I was driving in my car cut off in the middle of the highway. I was able to coast to side of the road. I took my car to the Honda accord dealership after that and was told it was my head gasket. After that repair, my car cut off once again. I took it back to Honda and was told that I now needed to replace the turbo charger which I’m unable to pay for after paying several thousands of dollar for the head gasket.

  8. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Nov 12, 2025

Emission system, low acceleration to the point it becomes a safety hazard in the freeway, I almost got rear ended twice, the car jolts, it stops out of no where, head gasket issues at only 65k. Maintenance was kept up but there’s a Facebook group called Honda sport 2018 to 22 on these models of the same issue “Christmas tree lights”

  9. Electrical system, Nov 9, 2025

Door locks alternate not locking/unlocking with either the door buttons or key fob buttons (battery is good). Available for inspection. Vehicle has not been inspected. No warnings prior. This has happened on and off for about 2 years and now seems like it’s 24/7 a thing with multiple doors at a time now.

  10. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Nov 1, 2025

My vehicle is losing power while traveling on the road. All of the system lights are flashing and the gas mileage is ridiculous. It sputters uncontrollably and just stalls out and drops speed really quick. I’m really concerned for my well being. I’ve spent so much money trying to fix these issues and I don’t think it’s fair to me or any other Honda owner to have to be held responsible for something that is clearly a manufacturing issue. Although there was not a crash during this incident, it’s very dangerous and I’m terrified to drive my car but I have no other transportation right now.

  11. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 30, 2025

While accelerating car jerks at times. At time car will go in limp mode I’ll have to safely try to get to side of road turn car off. Restart and continue driving. I’ve changed spark plugs, coil packs, turbo, fuel injectors, fuel pump and battery. I continue to put money into my car and nothing helps.

  12. Electrical system, Engine, Oct 15, 2025

Car has been giving me issues with the check light engine. They changed spark plugs and the head gasket and still giving me issues.

  13. Electrical system, Engine, Oct 3, 2025

headgasket blew at 73k miles out of nowhere no check engine light no smoke no warning nothing car was taken care of its whole life car locked up during headgasket failure almost causing accident on road near house called Honda to explain the mishap they were snotty and acted like they didnt care wouldn't provide repair for free or even ask me if I was ok or if I needed help. I am a part of a 1oth generation honda group on Facebook and there are alot of us who should be helpedfor this very dangerous and random mishap

  14. Electrical system, Engine, Sep 23, 2025

Recently bought this car a month ago. I started having problems with acceleration, as if the car was “bucking” every time i would press the gas normally at a red light or stop sign, accelerating from a stop. The vehicle wouldn’t make it up a hill while accelerating it was very hard bucking. I tried pressing the gas a little harder and the check engine light flashed and the car went into limp mode so i had to pull over. Made it back home and i was driving normally and every light you can imagine came up on the dash. I’ve heard from many others with the accord they’ve had the same problems but once they get it fixed the problems keep happening or the vehicle blows up. I just paid full in cash for this car and my total is fix it is already at 5k to fix.

  15. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 23, 2025

I own a 2018 Honda Accord Sport. About 2–3 months ago, the car began having repeated engine misfires (P0301), hesitation, and stalling while driving. At the same time, multiple dashboard warnings appear, including Steering Assist Reduced, Brake System Problem, Collision Mitigation Braking System Problem, Adaptive Cruise Control System Problem, Emission System Problem, and Hill Start Assist Problem, these failures occur suddenly while the vehicle is in motion, creating a serious risk of loss of engine power, reduced braking performance, loss of steering assist, and disabled crash-avoidance systems. I have already performed extensive maintenance: new ignition coils, a full tune-up, compression test, spark test, and battery/alternator check, yet the issues remain. Diagnostic scans also showed U0416-68 (invalid data from ABS/VSA module) in addition to the misfire. This suggests not only a fuel/propulsion defect but also a possible computer/control module failure that links engine, brakes, steering, and ADAS systems. These conditions match known recalls for the Accord, including 23V858000 (fuel pump failure), 20V314000 (low-pressure fuel pump), and 20V771000 (BCM software issue), yet my VIN does not currently show as included. The fact that multiple critical safety systems fail simultaneously makes this a major safety hazard that could easily lead to an accident if the car stalls, loses braking, or loses steering assist in traffic. I opened a case with Honda Customer Service (Case #15868389), but they refused to cover the repair since my VIN is not listed, despite the failures being identical to those described in the recalls. I strongly believe my vehicle should be included, and I request that NHTSA investigate whether the recall VIN range needs to be expanded.

  16. Electrical system, Sep 22, 2025

When gas gets low, all the warnings come up on the dash and LKAS turns off. Unable to use any features.

  17. Electrical system, Service brakes, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 8, 2025

While trying to accelerate the car loses power. This has happened many times. The Honda dealership has said the system is on back order and they will call me when it’s available. It’s been months. The “jerks”a few times then the check engine light comes on then the car loses power. The dashboard lights are brake system, emission system, electric power steering, hill assist and ACC system problem.

  18. Electrical system, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 5, 2025

    - Year: 2018 - Make: Honda - Model: Accord Sport 1.5 Turbo - Vehicle Identification Number : [XXX] I am writing to report a safety concern with my 2018 Honda Accord Sport 1.5 Turbo. The vehicle has developed a head gasket problem, which has resulted in significant engine issues. Additionally, I have experienced fuel injector problems, leading to decreased fuel efficiency and rough engine performance. Despite following the recommended maintenance schedule and addressing the issues with the dealer, the problems persist. I have been quoted $7,800 for repairs, which is unacceptable given the vehicle's age and mileage (currently 114,848 miles). I am concerned about the safety and reliability of the vehicle, especially when driving on the highway. The vehicle's blown head gasket has caused ¹: - Loss of power, leading to potential safety issues on the road - Engine hesitation and shutdown while driving, which can increase the risk of accidents I request that NHTSA investigate this matter further and take necessary actions to address the recurring issues with the 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Turbo engine. I would appreciate guidance on potential next steps to resolve this issue and ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability. - Repair estimates and records from the dealer - Maintenance records, including oil changes and fuel system cleanings - Correspondence with Honda dealership and corporate office Other owners have reported similar issues with the 2018 Honda Accord 1.5 Turbo, including fuel injector problems and blown head gaskets ² ³ ⁴. 19. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Aug 19, 2025

Condensor leak and compressor not working. Condensor replaced under Honda service bulletin but compressor not holding pressure.

  20. Electrical system, Air bags, Seat belts, Aug 6, 2025

I own a 2018 Honda Accord EX‑L (VIN#: [XXX]). Shortly after a service visit to a Honda dealer for unrelated maintenance (in Sep. 2024 with an estimated 50,000 miles), the dashboard began showing ‘Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer’. A dealer quoted $400+ to diagnose and replace what appears to be a common passenger airbag indicator sensor failure, a known issue reported by many 2018 Accord owners. I believe Honda should issue a recall due to the safety risk. I’m filing this as a VOQ complaint for ODI’s review and authorize NHTSA to share my identifying info with Honda if needed. Supporting Documentation and numerous examples of complaints from hundreds of Honda Accord owners relating to this problem: - Numerous drivers of 2018 Honda Accords have reported the identical warning (“Supplemental Restraint System Problem – See Dealer”) along with fault code B002013, intermittent dashboard behavior, and inability of dealers to resolve it consistently. - Honda’s 2024 Campaign 24‑050 identifies the seat weight sensor as directly causing SRS warnings and passenger airbag indicator failure - demonstrating this component is known to fail and trigger airbag system alert behavior, even if not yet applied to 2018 model year. - Independent coverage confirms the risk and design defect in seat sensors causing unintended SRS failures, underscoring the safety risk and Honda’s formal acknowledgment of the issue in later models. - Multiple complaints about post‑service warning lights that match this scenario (electrical system category), and public news coverage stating Honda is recalling vehicles due to faulty passenger seat sensors that may cause airbag or SRS failures. - 37 official complaints for the 2018 Accord, with no repair by dealer and failure left unresolved. One report (May 12, 2025) describes this exact issue saying the dashboard message randomly popped up and a "dealer wanted $250 diagnostic and $4,000 to repair. - My service quote attached. Head gasket blown

  23. Electrical system, Service brakes, Engine, Jul 13, 2025

Doesn’t run as it should, all lights and warnings show on the dash

  24. Power train, Electrical system, Engine, Jul 11, 2025

There are 10 warning lights currently on the dash. This is and has been an ongoing issue for over a year. Turning off the car then turning it back on the lights would go away. The car would periodically start to slow on its own while foot was still on the gas pedal which was dangerous in the middle of traffic or going 65 to 70 miles per hour on a highway. December 31, 2024 my car got towed to the Honda Dealership because the car stalled and wouldn't go past 15 miles per hour. Again the dash lit up. It was my understanding that it was because of the latest recall of the fuel pump issue that took over a year to be completed. The recall of the fuel pump was done January 6, 2025which took a week to complete and a week of work I missed with no available loaner car available to me. Once I got the car back the lights were not on the dash anymore but within 5 minutes of driving the car the lights came back on but the car did not stall and was able to go past the 15 miles per hour that was the original problem. Since January 2025 I have been dealing with these warning indicator lights and being the lights were on when Honda received the car to perform the recall I would assume a diagnosis would have been done but once I got the receipt there was no other issues recorded that was wrong with the car. There are absolutely too many Honda Accords with this problem. I've read everything from moisture in the tail lights triggering the lights, faulty battery, head gaskets, injectors to spark plugs. My car is no longer under a warranty and I have no means of paying for a guessing game when it comes to diagnosing the real problem with these cars. People are paying $5000 sometimes more and still having the same problem once they drive away. I honestly think a recall on this issue need to happen before something tragic happens. Maybe because it took over a year for Honda to get parts in to fix the recall fuel pump issue this is an exact result of going so long with the faulty fuel pump.
