Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2007-2011 CR-V vehicles that were sold, or ever registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin. An accumulation of road salt may cause the frame to corrode and possibly detach the rear trailing arm.
A detached rear trailing arm can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect and install a support brace or repair the rear frame, as necessary, free of charge. Depending on the extent of any corrosion damage, Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle. Owner notification letters were mailed May 22, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is UE3.

HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2005-2010 ACCORD, 2007-2010 CR-V, AND 2005-2008 ELEMENT PASSENGER CARS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 1, 2004, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 3, 2010. THE OUTER RACE OF THE SECONDARY SHAFT BEARING MAY BE BROKEN DURING CERTAIN DRIVING STYLES. A BROKEN OUTER RACE MAY CAUSE ABNORMAL NOISE, THE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT TO TURN ON, AND ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION IDLE GEAR AND AN ELECTRONIC SENSOR HOUSING WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION.
THIS COULD RESULT IN A SHORT CIRCUIT CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STALL. ADDITIONALLY, BROKEN PIECES OF THE OUTER RACE OR BALL BEARING FROM THE SECONDARY SHAFT MAY BECOME LODGED IN THE PARKING PAWL RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE ROLLING AFTER THE DRIVER HAS PLACED THE GEAR SELECTOR IN THE PARK POSITION. ENGINE STALL AND UNEXPECTED VEHICLE MOVEMENT INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH OR PERSONAL INJURY TO PERSONS WITHIN THE PATH OF A ROLLING VEHICLE.
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND DEALERS WILL UPDATE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 27, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA AUTOMOBILE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

ON MONDAY JUNE 24, 2013, I PUT MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR, FASTENED THEIR CAR SEATS, WALKED AROUND TO MY DRIVER DOOR TO FIND IT LOCKED. MY CHILDREN WERE LOCKED IN THE VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE WITH THE KEYS IN THE IGNITION. (THANK GOODNESS I WAS STILL AT HOME AND WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE SPARE KEY) THE CAR IS AUTOMATICALLY LOCKING ITSELF WITHIN SECONDS OF THE UNLOCK BUTTON BEING PRESSED ON THE REMOTE. IT LOCKS AND UNLOCKS ITSELF WHILE DRIVING AT THIS POINT (JULY 1, 2013) THIS AGAIN POSES A LARGE HAZARD TO TRANSPORT CHILDREN IN A CAR WHOSE DOORS UNLOCK WHILE DRIVING. ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY DEFECT! AFTER SOME ONLINE RESEARCH, THIS IS A VERY COMMON SAFETY MALFUNCTION IN 2007 CRV'S, YET HONDA HAS NOT MADE A RECALL. I GUESS THEY ARE NOT THAT CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY. *TR
Electrical system, Latches/locks/linkages, Jun 29, 2013
THE LOCKS INTERMITTENTLY DO NOT STAY LOCKED. THEY WILL UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WILL NOT LOCK PROPERLY WHILE IT IS ON. IT ALSO DOES NOT LOCK PROPERLY WHILE IT IS OFF. ALL DOORS EXCEPT THE DRIVER DOOR IS AFFECTED. *TR
Electrical system, Latches/locks/linkages, Jun 27, 2013
THE PASSENGERS AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK WITH LOCK AUTOMATICALLY, THEN AFTER 2 SECONDS IT WILL UN-LOCK AUTOMATICALLY. THIS ISSUE JUST STARTED TO HAPPEN APPX 3 WEEKS AGO. WE CANNOT LOCK THE PASSENGERS DOOR ANYTIME (I.E. DURING DRIVING AND/OR PARKED IN THE CARPORT). *TR
Structure, Latches/locks/linkages, Jun 24, 2013
THE FRONT RIGHT PASSENGER DOOR AND THE HATCH DOOR WERE LOCKED SHUT. I COULD NOT OPEN EITHER DOOR WITH THE REMOTE OR MANUALLY. I WAS CONCERNED THIS COULD BE DANGEROUS FOR THE PASSENGER IF WE WERE EVER INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NEEDED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR IMMEDIATELY. I DID HAVE BOTH DOORS REPAIRED. THEN A FEW MONTHS LATER THE REAR DOOR STARTED MAKING A GRINDING NOISE WHENEVER THE DOORS LOCKED OR UNLOCKED. THEN THE DRIVERS DOOR WOULD OPEN AND CLOSE ALL THE DOORS AT RANDOM TIMES. I WAS CONCERNED THE DOORS WOULD LOCK ME OUT ONE DAY. I DO MAKE FREQUENT CAR TRIPS TO SEE MY FAMILY IN ANOTHER CITY AND I DID NOT WANT TO GET LOCKED OUT WHILE ON ROUTE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. I HAVE SINCE HAD THOSE TWO DOORS REPAIRED FOR ANOTHER FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE WHO MIGHT BE IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE DOORS WILL NOT OPEN. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT IN THE CRV'S BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR WORSE. *TR

MY DOOR LOCKS ON THE CAR WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK WHILE DRIVING AND THERE WAS NO WAY TO STOP IT FROM DOING THIS. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS NO WAY FOR ME TO LOCK THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING OR AFTER PARKING AND LEAVING THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE DEALER DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM I THEN ASKED THEM HOW I COULD LOCK THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICEMEN SENT ME ON MY WAY AND SAID THERE WAS NO WAY TO DO SO. THIS PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED WITH EACH OF THE DOORS. THE LATEST IS THAT THE CAR DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK. THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO CRAWL ACROSS THE CONSOLE TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE THERE WAS NO WAY TO UNLOCK THE DOOR AND GET OUT. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IF THERE WERE AN ACCIDENT IT IS POSSIBLE THAT PEOPLE IN THE CAR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT, ESPECIALLY IF THE ACCIDENT RESULTED IN A CAR FIRE. IN ADDITION, WITH CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT, THERE IS NO WAY TO PREVENT THEM FROM OPENING THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO HONDA SIX TIMES REGARDING THE DIFFERENT DOORS AND EACH TIME HAVE HAD TO FIGHT WITH THEM REGARDING FIXING THIS PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO IT WAS FIXED WITHOUT A QUESTION, BUT EACH ADDITIONAL TIME I HAVE HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL DAYS AND ARGUE WITH DIFFERENT PEOPLE. DOOR LOCKS SHOULD WORK AND WHEN YOU REVIEW DIFFERENT FORUMS AND BLOGS ON LINE AND SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE THEY SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. *TR

PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK STARTED TO UNLOCK RANDOMLY, THEN WOULD LOCK AND UNLOCK WHEN DRIVING. ALL OTHER DOORS REMAINED LOCKED. I TRIED TO RESET AUTO LOCKS IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE HONDA CRV OWNERS MANUAL. THIS WORKED A COUPLE TIMES FOR A DAY OR SO, THEN BACK TO THE SAME OLD LOCKING /UNLOCKING. THE PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT LOCK AT ALL NOW LEAVING MY VEHICLE AND PASSENGERS IN DANGER. WHEN SEARCHING THRU THE INTERNET FOR OTHER POSSIBLE FIXES, I WAS CAUGHT OFF GUARD IN FINDING SO MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I SEE THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2006 HONDA CRV'S I HAVE A 2007. IN THIS DAY AND AGE, THERE IS A SAFE FEELING WHEN DRIVING AROUND AND YOU HAVE THE SECURITY OF A LOCKED CAR DOOR. I AM NOT FEELING VERY SAFE IN MY CAR THESE DAYS AND HOPE SOMETHING IS DONE BY HONDA REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. *TR

I OWN A 2007 HONDA CRV WHOSE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER AND REAR PASSENGER DOORS LOCK AND UNLOCK CONSTANTLY AS I DRIVE. WHEN I TURN OFF THE VEHICLE I CANNOT LOCK MY FRONT PASSENGER DOOR SO THAT LOCK REMAINS UNLOCKED AT ALL TIMES. IN ADDITION, THERE HAVE BEEN OCCURRENCES WHERE I PARK AND TURN OFF MY CAR BUT I CANNOT UNLOCK MY FRONT DRIVER DOOR SO I NEED TO SLIDE ACROSS TO THE PASSENGER SIDE IN ORDER TO EXIT MY CAR. THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN BOTH DANGEROUS AND ANNOYING. THE COST TO REPAIR EACH DOOR IS OUT OF MY REACH SO I HAVE HAD TO ENDURE. *TR

IN DECEMBER, MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. I TRIED TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOOR AND THE LOCK WOULD NOT BUDGE. MY BABY WAS IN HIS REAR-FACING CARSEAT ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR SO I HAD TO OPEN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR TO GET MY BABY OUT THROUGH THAT DOOR. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED TO ESCALATE TO THE POINT THAT AS OF TODAY (06/11/13), THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NO LONGER LOCK AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL ONLY REMAIN UNLOCKED FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE MOVING ITSELF BACK TO THE LOCKED POSITION. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL HONDA DEALER TOMORROW TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND BASED UPON THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND ON THE INTERNET, HONDA SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL. I HAVE THREE CHILDREN AND I FEAR THAT IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND WE NEED TO EVACUATE THE VEHICLE, THE DOOR LOCKS MAY FAIL ALL TOGETHER AND WE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO SAFELY EXIT THE VEHICLE. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK WITH THE ELECTRONIC KEY OR BY MANUAL PUSH. WORSE, THE DOOR LOCK PROBLEM LED TO MY CAR BEING VULNERABLE TO UNLAWFUL ENTRY, AND SURE ENOUGH, MY CAR WAS RANSACKED (ITEMS STOLEN) THIS WEEK AFTER I THOUGHT ALL MY "DEPENDABLE HONDA" DOORS WERE LOCKED. AFTER RESEARCHING, I AM DISGUSTED TO SEE THAT MANY HONDA CR-V (2007 MODEL) DRIVERS ARE EXPERIENCING EXACT OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE DOORS (UN)LOCKING. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE THAT THIS SAFETY ISSUE HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET. VERY UNHAPPY!!! *TR

I'M HAVING ISSUES WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK MECHANISM. A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, I COULD NOT GET THE DOOR TO UNLOCK. I TRIED THE REMOTE, THE AUTOMATIC BUTTON ON THE DOOR, AND EVEN MANUALLY LOCKING. NOTHING WORKED. THEN, YESTERDAY, THE OPPOSITE BEGAN. THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WILL NOT STAY LOCKED. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR LOCK MOVES ITSELF INTO UNLOCK POSITION EITHER IMMEDIATELY AFTER LOCKING, OR WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. THE ACTUATOR WILL LOCK, BUT THERE IS CLEARLY A SPRING FORCE THAT GRADUALLY UNLOCKS THE DOOR DURING DRIVING, OR EVEN WHEN STATIONARY IN A PARKING LOT. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AS THE DOORS WOULD CONTINUALLY TRY TO LOCK IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. EVENTUALLY, I FOUND WHICH DOOR, WHEN I OPENED IT FROM THE OUTSIDE WHEN ALL OTHERS WERE LOCKED. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THE CHILD SAFETY SWITCH IS ENGAGED OR NOT. THE DOOR WILL STILL UNLOCK ITSELF. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH OR WHILE STOPPED, OR WHILE PARKED THE DOOR LOCKS WILL LOCK AND UNLOCK ON THEIR OWN. MY WIFE AND I WATCHED THE DOOR UNLOCK WHILE PARKED WITH THE IGNITION TURNED OFF. THIS ISSUE PRESENTS SERIOUS SAFETY AND SECURITY CONCERNS. *TR

DOOR LOCKS BEGAN TO LOCK AND UNLOCK BY THEMSELVES REPEATEDLY AS I DROVE, UNLOCKING @ AROUND 9 MPH NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES I RELOCKED. IF I RELOCKED THEM THEY WOULD OPEN AT AN INTERSECTION STOP (VERY UNSAFE ALSO!), OR JUST OPEN & CLOSE WHILE I WAS DRIVING - ALL KINDS OF NOISY DOOR-LOCKING & UNLOCKING. I WAS UNABLE TO KEEP THE REAR DOOR LOCKED AT ALL WHEN I STOPPED THE CAR, LEAVING IT UNLOCKED AT NIGHT OR IF I LEFT THE CARE TO GO SOMEWHERE. I WAS ON A TRIP WITH LUGGAGE, COMPUTER, GPS, ETC. IN THE CAR AND IT WAS UNLOCKED! WHEN I GOT BACK HOME TO RHODE ISLAND AND BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FOUND THE LOCK ACTUATORS ON THE FRONT & REAR PASSENGER DOORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $524. THEY STATED THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BUT IT WAS NOT CAUSE BY ANYTHING I DID, WHICH MADE ME EVEN MORE UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE THEN IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN! I FELT I HAD TO PAY TO HAVE THE SERVICE COMPLETED BECAUSE I FELT SO UNSAFE WITH AN UNLOCKED AUTO, BOTH ON THE ROAD WHEN DRIVING AND ALSO OVERNIGHT OR WHEN PARKED. I HAVE JUST SUBMITTED THIS INFORMATION, SERVICE INVOICE, AND A COPY OF MY PROOF OF PAYMENT TO HONDA IN TORRANCE, CA, ONLY BECAUSE I SAW A SIMILAR COMPLAINT ON WPRI-TV IN PROVIDENCE - WHICH MADE ME REALIZE I WAS NOT AT ALL ALONE WITH THIS ISSUE. *TR
