Recalls and investigations

  1. Power train, automatic transmissionApr 15, 2013

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012-2013 CR-V, Odyssey, and model year 2013 Acura RDX vehicles. During sub-freezing temperatures, the brake-shift interlock blocking mechanism may become slow and allow the gear selector to be moved from the Park position without pressing the brake pedal. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention."

If the gear selector is moved from the park position without pressing the brake pedal it can allow the vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Honda or Acura dealer. The dealer will install an updated brake shift interlock blocking mechanism free of charge. The recall began on May 13, 2013. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009. Honda's campaign recall numbers are S96, S97, and S98.

  2. Equipment, other, labelsOct 16, 2012

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012 CR-V, equipped with the LX trim level and manufactured from August 30, 2012, to August 31, 2012. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 CFR Part 567, "Certification." The incorrect values for Gross Vehicle Weight Rating, Gross Axle Weight Rating front and rear, tire size, and rim size were specified on the safety certification label.

A misprinted label could lead to improper vehicle loading. Improper loading could result in a tire failure, increasing the risk of a crash.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will apply the corrective label free of charge. The safety recall began on November 14, 2012. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009.

  3. Latches/locks/linkages, doors, latchJul 19, 2012

Honda is recalling certain model year 2012 Honda CR-V and model year 2013 Acura ILX vehicles. If the manual or power door lock is activated while an interior front door handle is being operated by an occupant, the cable connecting the interior door handle to the door latch mechanism may become loose and move out of position. There is a possibility that the cable can move far enough out of position to prevent the door from properly latching.

If the door is not fully latched, the door may open while driving or in a crash, increasing the risk of personal injury to the vehicle occupants.

Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front door latch assemblies in the affected vehicles, free of charge. Additionally, the interior front door handles in certain Honda CR-Vs will also be replaced, free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on, or about, August 16, 2012. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-800-999-1009.

WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO MOVE THE SUN VISOR TO BLOCK THE SUN COMING IN THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW, IT FELL OUT OF THE OVERHEAD. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE CAR WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR. WITH LUCK, I WAS ON A RURAL ROAD WITH NO TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT UP IN PLACE AND LOCK IT INTO THE CLIP TO HOLD IT. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER AND TOOK IT IN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD ORDER A NEW ONE. AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS WHEN THEY DIDN'T CALL, I CALLED THEM AND FOUND OUT THAT THE VISOR WAS ON BACKORDER. IT TOOK ABOUT FIVE WEEKS BEFORE THEY GOT THE NEW VISOR. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO HAVE IT FIXED AND AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT THE NEW PART DIDN'T WORK AND THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHY. THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE GOING TO CONTACT HONDA TECHNICAL FOR A RESOLUTION, AND THEY WOULD HAVE AN ANSWER IN ABOUT TWO DAYS. THE NEXT DAY I FOUND OUT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISOR WAS DOING THE SAME THING. WHEN THEY DIDN'T CALL, I CALLED THEM AND GOT THE TWO DAY STORY AGAIN. AFTER THE THIRD TIME THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE AN ANSWER, I CALLED HONDA'S MAIN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REGISTERED A COMPLAINT. I GOT A COMPLAINT NUMBER AND WAS TOLD AN INVESTIGATOR WOULD CONTACT ME. SHE DID, AND WE DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM. THE NEXT MORNING THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER SERVICE MANAGER CALLED AND WANTED ME TO BRING THE CAR IN, AND THEY WOULD GIVE ME A LOANER. IT TOOK THEM ABOUT FOUR MORE DAYS TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP I DISCUSSED WHAT THEY HAD DONE TO FIX THE VISOR, AND FOUND OUT THAT THEY HAD TO GET EIGHT NEW UNITS BEFORE THEY GOT TWO GOOD ONES. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS THE DRIVER COULD EASILY BECOME DISTRACTED AND HAVE AN ACCIDENT. HONDA MUST REALIZE BY NOW THAT THEIR SUN VISORS ARE A PIECE OF JUNK. I SUSPECTED THAT WHEN I FIRST HEARD THAT THE SUN VISORS WERE ON BACK ORDER. YOU NEED TO MAKE THEM FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR

2012 HONDA CR-V HEADREST - WHEN SITTING WITH MY BACK COMPLETELY AGAINST THE CAR SEAT, THE TOP PART OF THE HEADREST IS PITCHED FORWARD AT SUCH AN ANGLE THAT IT FORCES MY HEAD FORWARD REGARDLESS OF THE HEIGHT OF PLACEMENT. IN ORDER TO CORRECTLY ALIGN MY HEAD WITH MY SPINE WHILE DRIVING, I HAVE TO SIT FORWARD. THIS IS NOT A FEASIBLE POSITION. I AM 5'10" TALL AND I ALREADY SUFFER FROM CERVICAL SPINE PROBLEMS WITHOUT THIS HEADREST CREATING MORE!!! I DID NOT REALIZE THE SITUATION WITH THE HEADREST UNTIL I'D HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ABOUT A WEEK. I CALLED THE HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER 1-800-999-1009 ON MARCH 2, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 12:50 PM E.S.T. TO COMPLAIN. THEIR REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME SHE WOULD MAKE A NOTE OF MY COMPLAINT AND PASS IT ON TO THE DESIGN TEAM. SHE STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE AT THIS TIME TO FIX IT. THE ONLY SOLUTION I COULD FIND WAS TO TURN THE HEADREST AROUND AND ATTACH A CUSHION TO IT IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THESE HEADRESTS MAY HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO FIT CURRENT SAFETY MEASURES, BUT ONE SIDE DOES NOT FIT ALL!! *TR
