Steering, electric power assist systemSep 27, 2018
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Honda Civic and CR-V vehicles. The magnet that controls the torque sensor output signal for the electronic power steering system may not be properly secured, allowing the magnet to become dislodged. During a full lock turn, the dislodged magnet may cause steering assist to be applied in the opposite direction.
The unintended steering input reduces vehicle maneuverability and increases the risk of a crash.
Honda will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering gearbox assembly, free of charge. The recall began November 9, 2018. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are C2N, P2O.

The systems affected with failure notifications were Electric Parking Brake, TPMS, Emissions, Brake, Brake Hold, Power Steering, Vehicle Stability Assist, Hill Start Assist, Adaptive Cruise (including regular cruise), Collision Mitigation/Avoidance, Road Departure Mitigation. The stored codes in the vehicle that I was able to read were P0300, P0303, P0304. This failure bears a striking resemblance to that of TSB 21-010, directed at Keihin manufactured fuel injectors, PN: 16010-RLV-315, which was later replaced with updated ...-305 after the failure was determined, and the vehicles were given a 10 year 150,000 mile warranty. The CRV had injector PN: 16010-5PA-305, also manufactured by Keihin, which was also later revised to 06160-..., but the CRV was not given the same warranty extension, suggesting Honda acknowledged the same defect pattern across both injector families but chose not to extend equivalent coverage to the CRV. 21-010 also details that debris from the high pressure pump may contribute, and the CRV experienced the same fuel pump recall for low density impellers that these vehicles did. Honda is also obligated under TSB 98-081 to perform emissions services due to OBD inadequacy, which this vehicle experienced. Misfires were felt for months with no CEL. The Norm Reeves Honda parts catalog classifies injectors as emissions components, implying they should be covered. However, a Honda dealer in CA, mandated by CARB and EPA, refused to do the repairs or make any goodwill attempt on my behalf. I then reached out to American Honda, who delayed assigning a case manager as long as possible, then required phone contact after initially accepting alternate communication methods, then assigned a case manager whose hours conflicted with my stated availability, then assigned a second who has not answered the phone. I am still awaiting a callback. The vehicle has been immobile and in limp mode for the past two weeks while Honda's callback process remains unresolved.
Air bags, Jun 8, 2026, crash
I have been waiting for an airbag for my 2018 Honda CRV since November 2025. I have made contact with Honda Motors US Corporate offices 2 months ago and they are failing to give me an estimate as to when my airbag will be sent to my dealership in Chicago. They can not give me any concrete information as to when the part is even going to be manufactured. For the last 3 weeks they have given me zero concrete information. They are not providing me with a loaner car. My car has been unusable for over 6 months which is and the customer service representative suggested that I operate the car without an air bag.

On several occasions, while driving down the road at 55 mph, the car will flash the "BRAKE" indicator on the dash for a brief second and immediately slam on the brakes either to a stop or for a shorter amount of time. This is the third event that happened today just before reporting this problem. Our safety was at risk because there could've been someone behind us that may not have reacted fast enough and could've hit us. After the issue, there were no warning lights of any kind. There was no hazard in the road and no other obscure conditions. Middle of the day, clear skies. It is not possible to reproduce the problem in a timely manner because this has happened randomly three times over the course of two years.
Electrical system, Jun 7, 2026
ALL of the warning lights go off one day, then the very next day it does not happen. This cycle has been happening for almost two straight years of “normal” driving. The vehicle is working totally fine and has never broken down because of this. Two different Honda dealerships told me that it is unsafe to drive and that the fuel injectors need to be replaced, which is a $2,000.00 fix - which is ridiculous! There has to be something else going on to cause ALL of the warning lights to go off, yet the vehicle drives totally fine. It seems to me that this should fall under a “recall.”

To start model Honda CRV 2018 did indeed have a recall in 11/2018 but only for 56 or 57 autos which mine was NOT one. My SUV with only 55k miles has started to have sticking in the steering wheel mechanism/hydraulics/or electrical systems relating to steering for the last 7 - 9 months. I was told by the service person in 04/26 that they would investigate the issue for $250+ bucks and if they needed to repair it the cost would be around $3.5k. I am a senior citizen and I think is exorbitant. Im afraid the steering wheel jerking with eventually cause the SUV to veer out of its own lane into another. The SUV has not been inspected by anyone. There have been no indication lights or other system problems prior to this happening.

Steering wheel has begun to "stick" in place, extra force required to move the steering wheel. Turning the steering wheel is rarely a smooth effort. Can also hear a clicking noise from under neath the car while driving. Recently found a small oil/grease stain from underneath the vehicle in my garage. Took my vehicle to a Honda dealer, they determined that the rack and pinion steering needs to be replaced. Cost to replace steering rack = $6222.70. Car has 140K miles. Dealer would not cover an of the cost due to age/mileage of car.

Steering Gearbox Replacement. I have 29407.00 mileage as of XXX service date. This has been going for several months. I have no wear and tear on my car. I have the original tires on the car and are still good It basically brand new. Honda service in [XXX] did a diagnostic test and said that was the problem. I feel my safety is at risk. I no warning messages or other symptoms just had to steer the car. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

THE STEERING WHEEL IS GETTING STUCK IN POSITION ON STRAIGHT ROAD DRIVING AND YOU HAVE TO FORCE THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH. IT STARTED AS A GENTLE PROBLEM, MOST NOTABLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NOW IT IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AND IS STARTING TO MAKE A CLICKING SOUND. I SEE HONDA RECALLED MODELS FROM 2022-2025 BUT I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING BOX/GEARS OR CLOCK SPRING OR MAGNET. WHATEVER IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, ON MY 2018 YEAR MODEL. I FEEL HONDA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR AND CORRECTIVE ACTION. I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG I CAN KEEP DRIVING MY CAR UNDER THIS CONDITION, AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY FOR AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR CAUSED BY HONDA.
Steering, Jun 3, 2026
When driving at highway speed, steering wheel feels like it sticks (catches) suddenly, then jerks when correcting. Steering wheel action is disconcerting, but not dangerous yet. Seems to be getting worse. The steering issue has not been inspected by the dealer, or any technician.
Steering, Lane departure, Jun 3, 2026
Steering "sticky". Intermittently steering feels stuck, resistant to during turns requiring extra force on steering wheel to break free both in low speed maneuvering and at highway speeds. Sticky steering associated by a soft clicking noise. Jim Coleman Honda of Clarksville MD checked the vehicle and confirmed the sticky steering and associated clicking noise. Their remedy to the sticky steering diagnosis was replacement of the EPS steering rack and gearbox at a cost of $6,000.00 They noted that this issue was the subject of a limited 2017-2018 recall 18V663 and more recently under 2022-2025 24V744. As result of stickiness the LKA system no longer works properly.
Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 1, 2026
While getting the cr-v fuel pump mtr saf recall fixed on my vehicle, the dealership found a crack in the fuel pump module. They also said there is a leak in the head gasket and a purge flow malfunction. They stopped any work on my vehicle and said I needed to replace my vehicle with a new vehicle. If a Honda dealership is not willing to work on my vehicle, what am I supposed to do with it?

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that while driving, the steering wheel became loose and grabbed. The vehicle felt like it was traveling into another lane. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 18V663000 (Steering). While her husband was driving, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who provided a front-end alignment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the steering assembly gearbox needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who confirmed there was no recall coverage. The manufacturer mentioned goodwill assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,018.
Forward collision avoidance, May 31, 2026
Multiple times when driving on the freeway, there will be no obstruction whatsoever on a clear road, with a clean car — it will emergency break, or attempt to. I have had it diagnosed and nothing related to break system etc was ever found. This happens often and has almost caused a couple crashes.

I am having a terrible problem with the steering wheel, keeping it in the lane along with hearing a loud noise when turning the steering wheel left to right. I only have 63,000 miles on this car. Took it to a dealership and they said it is the Electric Power Assist System. I am finding out there is a recall with this very thing but that my car was not on the list. It should be. I am having this very problem. It is to dangerous to drive. Honda has a reputation for being a great safety car. This one is not. They said the charge would be $4500. This is not right. I am a [XXX] and [XXX]. I don't believe the manufacturer has been honest about this safety issue...they claim only 54 cars were affected. Please check into it for me please. Fuel/propulsion system, May 30, 2026
A franchised dealership has actively undermined a federal safety mandate, creating an immediate vehicle fire hazard. On [XXX], I took my 2018 Honda CR-V to Bedard Bros Honda in Cheshire, MA, for NHTSA Safety Recall Campaign 23V-858 (Fuel Pump Module). During the service, the dealer identified a cracked fuel pump housing and attempted to charge me a $390 fee to replace it. When I declined this commercial upcharge on a safety recall, the technician reassembled the pressurized fuel system using the broken housing and released the vehicle to me. Prior to this appointment, the vehicle had no fuel leaks or odors. Immediately upon driving the vehicle home and parking it, the vehicle began actively leaking raw gasoline, filling the cabin with toxic, flammable vapors. The dealership’s decision to perform a federal safety recall inside a known broken component, and subsequently release a vehicle with a compromised fuel system to avoid completing a free repair, has created an active fire emergency. The dealer invoice explicitly documents the crack and their attempted charge. I am requesting a formal investigation into this dealership's handling of Campaign 23V-858. The steering has a catch in it which makes for jerky driving. When driving to avoid drift and correct travel path the steering has a hard spot which makes it easy to over correct causing safety issues with nearby vehicles and driving on slick roads. I had heard that some crv’s had a recall for this issue but none shows up for this vehicle. This happens frequently when driving and has happened on many trips.

I have a 2018 Honda CRV with 52,000 miles. It has a steering problem. The vehicle has to be hot, or be driven for 1 plus hours for the problem to appear. In a few words the problem can be described as: intermittent steering binding sticky steering steering hesitation near center sudden release necessitating overcorrection in opposite direction safely hazard during highway driving I don't know specifically what the problem is but Chat GPT offers these comments: EPS gearbox, worm gear, steering torque sensor, or intermediate shaft malfunction. I have to assume that the problem that plagues my vehicle is related to the known CRV steering rack or EPS issues tied to the newer model recalls. I have not asked a Honda dealer to diagnosis the issue and provide an estimate for repair, but plan to shortly. Otherwise, this vehicle is in excellent condition, has had proper maintenance and care. I have called a local Honda dealer to inquire about a recall and was told there is no recall on this issue for my car year. There is however a recall for steering issues on 2023, 24, 25 year cars. Vehicle experiences intermittent steering sticking/catching while turning. In March 2026, an independent repair facility verified the steering concern and documented: “Technician found Rack and Pinion will lock when manually turning.” The technician also referenced Honda Technical Service Bulletin / Safety Recall 18-103 regarding the 2017–2018 Honda CR-V EPS gearbox and recommended steering rack replacement. Immediately afterward in March 2026, the vehicle was inspected by Honda after the steering concern was reported, and no steering gearbox issue was identified at that time. Now, in May 2026, Honda is diagnosing the EPS steering rack/gearbox assembly and recommending replacement at an estimated cost of approximately $5,000. Although this VIN was reportedly not included in the original recall population, the vehicle is exhibiting steering symptoms substantially similar to the defect described in Honda’s EPS gearbox recall documentation. Because this condition affects steering responsiveness and safe vehicle control, and appears to be progressively worsening, we are requesting investigation into whether similar EPS steering defects may exist outside the originally identified VIN range.

We brought the car to the dealer yesterday (where we bought it in Jan 2021), to have the air conditioning fixed. They told us they found rust on the frame and that it would not pass inspection again. It had been inspected there in February, 2026. At that time, we told them about a vibration and they said it was ice build up. But yesterday, they told us the linkage in the driveshaft needs to be replaced. So there are two safety issues: frame rust on an 8 year old vehicle and a faulty driveshaft.

While driving home during rush hour traffic on the highway with my children in the vehicle, without warning it stopped accelerating when I passed the gas pedal and started slowing down. When I let go of the gas pedal it would speed back up. I couldn't safely merge over to the right with heavy traffic and ended up on the left shoulder. I turned the vehicle off and tried to restart it, it struggled to start, but when I let go of the key it would turn over. The brake system lights and check engine light were illuminated after the incident, but not during. The code was for p0087 and honda service confirmed it's a failed high pressure fuel pump, but it's not under the recall so the repair isn't covered. I'm extremely lucky to have gotten to the side of the road without causing an accident. I was not driving my normal route that day, but if i had been this would have happened on a stretch of the highway that's under construction where there was no shoulder to pull onto. So if I'd have gone a different way home that day, we'd have most certainly been involved in a collision. They've anyway Texans the low pressure fuel pump but these high pressure ones are just as dangerous when they fail, even more so!

Experiencing steering wheel binding at highway speeds - Steering Gearbox on my leased car, 2018 CRV was issued a Safety Recall by the NHTSA on September 28, 2018. I leased my car in July of 2018, but never received a safety recall from Honda. Document [XXX] . The issue is described as "Sticky Steering". I've contacted 2 Honda service locations, and they can't find any recall information for my 2018 vehicle. There are newer more recent models/years that do have this recall, but none for mine. However, the NHTSA issued one that nobody can find. I found it, but apparently it doesn't exist and I'm not finding anyone at the Honda service centers that are helpful. My 2017 Honda CR-V's air conditioning system has repeatedly failed to cool properly over the past several years, occurring approximately 4 to 5 times. The AC blows warm or insufficiently cold air, making driving uncomfortable and unsafe during hot weather, particularly for passengers including children and elderly individuals. I have researched this issue and found that Honda has acknowledged two known defects related to this problem through Technical Service Bulletins TSB 19-091 (AC condenser manufactured out of specification, causing refrigerant leaks) and TSB 23-040 (AC compressor shaft seal defect causing refrigerant and oil leaks). Honda extended the warranty on these components to 10 years with no mileage limit, however no formal safety recall has been issued and owners are not proactively notified. This is a recurring defect affecting thousands of CR-V owners across multiple model years (2017–2022). I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this pattern and compel Honda to issue a formal recall so that all affected owners are automatically notified and repaired at no cost, rather than requiring owners to discover the warranty extension themselves.
