Back over prevention, sensing system, cameraJul 1, 2026
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image to fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."
A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Power train, Other or unspecified, Oct 11, 2025
On 10/4/2025, I was driving with my family on a single lane road around 7:30pm. The van automatically went into neutral "N" gear and there was a message displayed on the dashboard saying it is not safe to drive and asking me to pull over when it is safe to do so. Pressing the gas pedal didn't do anything. Eventually the car came to a stop. The car wouldn't allow me to shift the gear to D or P. A cop who was driving by, saw my situation and nudged the car to the side of the road because it was blocking other traffic. I turned off the car and waited for 5 minutes. Turned the car back on. This time the message displayed as "Emission system problem". I was able to drive the van normally for another 30 miles to get back home. There was no obvious mechanical issues either before or after the car went to neutral. On Monday, I took the car to a honda dealership. While driving there, the car still had "Emission system problem" error. As soon as the person in the dealership turned on the car to get the mileage, the dashboard message went away. They did a diagnostic and said that they got a p0810 code. They reset the code and drove it for 10 miles trying to reproduce the issue. They couldn't reproduce it. I have driven the car for more than a week and I don't have the problem. However, a car automatically going into neutral while still driving on the road, seems to be a very dangerous issue. Please investigate this issue.

we were driving on the freeway when the car it stalled and place itself in neutral. we were unable to put it in park or drive. so we started googling while we were also trying to get a tow truck and we just decided to turn off the car and turn it back on and hoping for the best and we were able to put it back in drive and safely drive home definitely there’s a problem with the transmission or something electronical.

Ever since we bought the car, the car has hesitated when we step on the gas pedal. It will then jerk forward, which makes it difficult to merge into traffic. There is a safety concern as it is unpredictable about when it will happen and when the car will start to go.

Vehicle jerks at about 25mph when it’s idled in 1-2rpm. Sometime at acceleration and won’t move up rpm. Vehicle got fuel injectors and transmission fluid replaced and still have issues. Vehicle in shop now with less then 2,000k before power train warranty up even though I’ve been dealing with it for over a year. Dealer said transmission fluid was down quart 4 months after they changed the transmission fluid. They were able to replicate jerk but couldn’t replicate sound of something clicking over while idle. I have it on video. I think since Honda never fixed the issue in the first place it caused additional damage and all the want to do is add more fluid and call it a day.

Delayed transmission engagement when accelerating from a stopped position. When the accelerator is depressed the transmission hesitates and does not shift for a few seconds. This is very unsafe when trying accelerate into traffic or cross roads. This has been an on going issue with this transmission.
Power train, Electrical system, May 7, 2025
Shortly after owning we started noticing sporadic jerks between 24-29 mph that felt like a hard up shift. We immediately brought to our local Honda dealership where they performed a software update. We were told that the vehicle struggles to shift while under load. Recently our van was making a whining noise and seemed hard/delay to accelerate in drive as well as reverse. Almost felt like I was in neutral, but was not. NO warning lights were on, but something was not right so I went home. The next day it would not start and lit up every warning light. We had it towed to the dealership and was told battery was shot so they replaced. On way home it was still hard to accelerate so we brought it right back to the dealership and have been told a new transmission is needed. We have had all maintenance done at dealership prior to this. In fact, the vehicle was just in 3 weeks ago for an oil change and everything looked great. These issues have occurred without any warning lights or diagnostic alerts, making them unpredictable and dangerous. A transmission should not fail without any particular warning to the driver. It seems these transmissions have had a defect from the date of manufacturer that cause malfunctions, premature failing, costly repairs, and most important major safety concerns. Honda needs to be held accountable.
Power train, Apr 13, 2025
We have had issues with the transmission multiple times. After coming to a stop, rolling forward, and then pressing the accelerator the vehicle hesitates and won't immediately move forward. It will suddenly engage, often squealing the tires and jerk into forward motion. This puts us and others at risk because it causes a delay in pulling into traffic and has made for close calls with oncoming traffic. We took the vehicle to a local shop and they also noticed the issue with the transmission. We took the vehicle to a Honda dealership for service and while they stated that they could not duplicate the issue, there was a software update that they completed and stated that they thought it would take care of the issue. We are still having the issue and plan to take the vehicle back to the dealer for more investigation. We have not had any warning lamps or other messages. Upon researching this, there are class action lawsuits in the works related to this issue on 9 speed transmissions used in various Honda models during this timeframe. Honda has not recalled or extended warranties to cover these issues. It looks like Honda has sent technical service bulletins to nationwide dealers acknowleding the issue but has failed to find a fix for the problem. As in our case, Honda has done software updates which may mask the issue. Below it asks for the date that the incident occurred - This occurs at least weekly, sometimes more frequently.

Honda has said my injectors are not under recall despite other 2019 odysseys having been recalled for this same issue. Transmission has expired hesitation in shift moving from a complete stop and acceleration.

sorry, I should make the complaint earlier since I just know I can submit it here. I have a 2019 honda odyssey EX-L since 2019 but I only have 22K miles. Starting from 2023, the vin could not pick up speed when we pushed the oil paddle; the transmission got stuck and the van could not be speed up when it was needed in highway. We came across the dangerous situations for several times. We contacted the local honda dealer for several times. They insisted that there was not any problems but they suggested we change the transmission fluid with less then 19000 miles !!!. But even we changed the fluid , the van seemed better for 2 months. I contacted honda USA. But they did not pay any attentions!!!! In the end of Jan 2025, I was making a left turn while the van got stuck there ; I almost got hit by the coming car. It was very terrifying ! I do not know what I can do since I need to use the van to pick up my three kids for school everyday I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. While driving at 25-30 mph, all of a sudden the 2 warning signs came up: “transmission system problem” AND “blind spot info system problem.” The “D” in the dashboard started blinking. When I put the vehicle in park at a stop light, the “P” also blinked. After a couple of minutes of this I pulled over and turned the car off. A few minutes later I restarted the engine and these warning lights have not come back in the last 5 drives. I read online that this may be a software glitch that needs updating (which I think is a manufacturer defect). I do feel like the car was a bit jumpy while these warnings were going off and I was TERRIFIED that it would put itself into park while I was driving and cause an accident.

No acceleration on freeway/highway

Does not accelerate on the highway/freeway. Took it to dealer shop, several times over the years. First 2-3 years, they say they did not find any issues. Last year, they said it was transmission issue. We took it to other repair shop, he said it was computer system failure.

Vehicle has hard shifting up and down. Loud clank when up shifting or down shifting at random times.
Power train, Dec 27, 2024
Currently own a honda odyssey 2019. The transmission is unstable at times. From a speed of 25-30mph, it performs hard shifts i think from the 3rd gear. We can really feel the jerk of the van along with a sound like metals slipping or something. It doesn't always happen therefore the dealer could not fully diagnose it and called it normal or wait for it to get worse. Yeah right!

The vehicle has been occasionally stalling starting early 2024, maybe sooner. I had the fuel pump recall done recently. The vehicle is still stalling, and it seems to be getting worse. The stalling happens when driving at speed, even over 70+ mph. No warning lights. But rpms drop to almost zero for a few seconds and accelerator is unresponsive. Then it comes back after a few seconds. This is dangerous. Especially on busy highways.
