Recalls and investigations

  1. Back over prevention, sensing system, cameraJul 1, 2026

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image to fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Representative owner complaints

969 reports, newest first.

  1. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 4, 2026

For about 3-4 years now we have had issues with either the accelerator and/or possibly the transmission. We are not exactly sure which because our dealer claims they can never recreate the issue which is hard to believe since the issue happens to us most times the car is driven. The complaint that we have is intermittent delayed/no acceleration when accelerator is pressed, followed by sudden surge/punch forward after releasing and pressing accelerator again. What makes it particularly frightening is when it happens and the car is exposed to other perpendicular traffic that may not have to stop. No warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem occur or accompany the issue in question. The vehicle has only been looked at by our Honda Dealership.

  2. Vehicle speed control, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 4, 2026

The multipurpose windshield camera module in my 2019 Honda Odyssey experiences an internal electronic/power failure (Diagnostic Trouble Code U3000-49) while driving. This failure triggers a cascade of warning lights across the dashboard, instantly and without warning disabling the entire Honda Sensing driver-assist suite—including Collision Mitigation Braking (CMBS), Lane Keeping Assist (LKAS), Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Auto High Beams.

  3. Forward collision avoidance, Sep 2, 2026

Ton of warning messages displayed related to ADAS systems not working. Took car to the dealership and was told the multicamera system failed. Messages almost identical to what's reported here and apparently many other Honda owners are reporting the same problem. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  4. Other or unspecified, Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 2, 2026

    Rear view multipurpose camera failed

  5. Suspension, Sep 1, 2026

At only 56,000 miles, one of the rear shocks completely snapped in half. While driving, hitting ANY type of bump caused the rear end to drastically sway side to side. Upon taking it to the repair shop, they stated it was a common problem with Odyssey's and only with Odyssey's. This website explains the issue well with pictures: [XXX] Why there isn't a recall is beyond me but this is a safety issue at this point. Especially for a vehicle designed to carry children. Shocks don't just break in half with normal driving. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  6. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 1, 2026

The multipurpose camera went out due to heat apparently and stops the advanced driver assistance systems from working on the vehicle. It was taken to a dealership and was told it’s a known issue and is about 2k to fix.

  7. Other or unspecified, Aug 31, 2026

All of a sudden for no reason, error messages starting showing up on the dashboard. Such as: blind spot info system problem, lane keeping assist problem, transmission system problem, and others. The car runs fine. I took it to my local shop and they put a new battery in. At first the lights went out but then they came back. So I took it to the Honda dealership. They ran diagnostics and tell me the multipurpose camera needs to be replaced. At a cost of $1,996.00. I asked if the camera can just be taken out, but have been told that is not an option. Obviously many of the security features are tied to this device. We are taking an out of state trip this weekend to a family wedding so must get this fixed this week. I’m not comfortable driving the car that far in this condition. There were absolutely no problems with the car beforehand. It happened two days ago on Sat 8/29/26. We were returning from a day trip about 70 miles from home. When these error messages started popping up, the car was running fine and continued to do so.

  8. Other or unspecified, Aug 30, 2026

The front windshield camera mounted above the rear view mirror overheats and shuts off, causing a minimum of 14 errors to light up the dashboard screen during driving. This also prevents the back lift gate from opening once parked until the errors are cleared. This has happened multiple times, not always when it is hot and sunny, but the camera module overheats and shuts off anyway.

  9. Electrical system, Aug 29, 2026

Fuel Indicator started malfunctioning, even after filling completely did not show full tank. the gauge kept fluctuating around the mid tank range. Now suddenly the car stalled, went into neutral and had an emission system warning light on. I am seeing past recalls similar or related to this.

  10. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 29, 2026

Failure of the front multipurpose camera which helps control functions such as automatic braking, lane keep assist, automatic cruise control, lane departure, etc.

  11. Electrical system, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 28, 2026

Safety Complaint – 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite Front Camera Failure I own a 2019 Honda Odyssey Elite with approximately 60,000 miles. The front windshield camera used by the Honda Sensing system failed. When the camera failed, the vehicle displayed approximately 11 warning messages/errors involving multiple safety-related systems, including the Brake System, VSA, EPS, Electric Parking Brake, Brake Hold, Hill Start Assist, and Honda Sensing features such as ACC, LKAS, and CMBS. This was concerning because one camera failure caused multiple safety systems to become unavailable or display warning messages. The vehicle’s driver-assistance and safety functions were significantly affected. I took the vehicle to a Honda dealer, and the dealer diagnosed the front Honda Sensing camera as defective and replaced it. The total cost was approximately $2,600, including the camera, parts, labor, and calibration. I believe this is an unusually expensive failure for a critical safety component, especially on a vehicle with only approximately 60,000 miles. The front camera is not a normal wear item and is essential to several Honda safety and driver-assistance systems. I am also concerned that similar Honda owners have reported failures involving Honda Sensing cameras. I would like NHTSA to investigate whether there is a recurring or widespread defect involving the front Honda Sensing camera on Honda Odyssey vehicles, particularly model years 2018–2020. I respectfully request that NHTSA review complaints and repair records related to this issue and determine whether further investigation or a safety recall is warranted. I am submitting this complaint because I believe owners should not have to pay approximately $2,600 to repair a potentially recurring defect in a critical safety component.

  12. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 28, 2026

We were backing up the vehicle and the children started playing around acting like they were pushing the vehicle. The rear camera showed they were on the back corners of the vehicle and I think also the rear camera. As I pulled away all the safety notifications started to appear - adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, high beam automation and a brake system error. The vehicle was taken to the dealership in Richmond, Kentucky who advised that the issue was the front camera that is in the rearview mirror mount area. I asked how this could be the front camera when everything happened in the rear of the vehicle. They advised they didn't know how but that is what their code readers are recognizing as the issue. They also stated that they have several individuals reporting this issue to them each month but there are no recalls due to this. This seems to be a safety defect as I cannot see how children playing around at the back of the vehicle affects the 'front' camera in turn affecting so many safety items.

  13. Electrical system, Aug 28, 2026

Everything on the dashboard went blank, no speedometer, the infotainment screen, all went blank for several minutes.

  14. Fuel system, Gasoline, Aug 27, 2026

The contact owns a 2019 Honda Odyssey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated and an emissions error message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel injectors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired by the dealer due to high repair costs. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was repaired. The failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer, where it was again diagnosed that the fuel injectors failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure was a known issue with the vehicle. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Fuel injectors - They can be inspected in needed How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - This issue can cause issues with the engine and ultimately make the vehicle unsafe to operate. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? This is a known issue with honda vehicles including the odyssey for 2019. There is a Service Bulletin 21-010 that mentioned the issue but only covers some VINS but this is an issue with other VINS that the dealer refuses to cover. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? A Check engine light will come on.

My entire ADAS system malfunction and it started listing 7 warning alerts. I googled and it seems like is a common theme with this vehicle.

From the date of purchase, the central display / infotainment screen intermittently turns off or loses connection (Pictures of different messages appearing on the screen attached). When this happens, I lose the rearview backup camera, GPS, radio, and the entire rear entertainment system, for which I paid a significant extra amount. While the vehicle was still under factory warranty, I reported this exact problem during my first and second service visits at Honda Canyon. On both occasions, the service advisor stated they "could not replicate the problem. I specifically asked: "What happens if this gets worse after warranty expires?" Your employee told me verbally that since the issue was documented as in the system, Honda would take care of it without charge. On XXX they did a software update (Invoice attached). After that, the problem got worse. Current situation: The problem has now gotten much worse - the screen is unusable most of the time, creating a safety risk when backing up without a camera. On XXX, I met with Service Manager Mark Wiseman at Honda Canyon. I provided printed photos of the different error messages shown on the screen. I left the vehicle for 10 days. No loaner was provided. Mr. [XXX] told me upon pickup that his technicians drove the vehicle "several times" and were able to see the messages but could not get the diagnostic code they needed. He stated he believes the issue is a device in the rear of the van. However, when I compared the mileage, the van was driven only 0.6 miles in 10 days, contradicting the statement that it was driven several times. Most concerning, Honda Canyon now claims their system shows no record that I complained about this problem while the vehicle was under warranty, despite two prior complaints. This is a pre-existing defect, reported under warranty, and is related to the known infotainment / MOST bus issues on 2018-2019 Odyssey models. The loss of the rearview camera is also a federal safety issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  18. Engine, Aug 26, 2026

When I am sitting at a traffic light and the auto engine idle stop gauges it very frequently completely shuts off the engine and will not restart. I will hit the power button to try and turn the vehicle back on, but it won’t work. I have to put the car into park, completely turn off the car battery, open the car door, while sitting in the middle of traffic, and then shut the car door and restart the car. If I do not open the car door, I cannot restart the car. I have taken this into Honda twice to have an evaluated and they “cannot find“ the problem despite their being a bulletin out specifically about this problem. It is now shutting off on me three and four times in a single trip. I was almost in an accident trying to restart my car when a light turned green and I couldn’t get my vehicle to restart as all the cars around me went. This has been an ongoing problem for years.

  19. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 25, 2026

In August 202, the multipurpose monocular camera failed. My car is a 2019 Honda Odyssey EXL. I was not involved in any accident or incident that would have caused this to fail. When this camera fails 5 warning codes popup: collision mitigation braking system failure , lane keeping assistance system failure, adaptive cruise control failure, road departure mitigation and auto-high beams stop working. The dealer priced the repair at ~$2,100. Many reports are coming up with this failure and it seems driven by overheating of the camera module, a filed camera component, or other unknown reasons.

  20. Electrical system, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Aug 21, 2026

I'm filing a formal safety complaint regarding my 2019 Honda Odyssey, VIN [XXX], & requesting an engineering-level review by American Honda. I've brought this vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer numerous times for recurring & increasingly serious electrical, engine/power-loss, & transmission problems. Despite thousands of dollars in repairs, the problems continue. The vehicle has unexpectedly shut off/lost power; the power sliding doors have failed & required manual opening; low-battery warnings have appeared; & the radio/infotainment system repeatedly loses power and resets. I have photographs showing the message: “Anti Theft System–This system has lost power.” More seriously, the vehicle has malfunctioned in Park, Reverse, while shifting into Drive, & while turning. Most recently, the transmission would not engage properly and the vehicle had to be shut off and restarted multiple times before it would go into Drive. Delray Honda documented this transmission failure/no-drive incident on its August 2026 repair order. In May 2026, I brought the vehicle to Delray Honda for a Check Engine Management System warning. Repairs were performed, but the warning returned within days. Delray Honda then replaced the power distribution module, costing me approximately $2,000. I've spent thousands more dollars addressing these recurring problems without resolution. I understand Honda/NHTSA Recall 19V-299 involved certain 2018–2019 Odysseys and a loss of power to the Transmission Control Unit. My Odyssey appears to have been manufactured around the time of those Hondas that were covered by that recall. I'm not claiming without diagnosis that the defect is identical, but the similarity of the symptoms warrants an urgent investigation. I request that Honda open a formal safety case, review my complete service history, DTCs and TCM/PCM data, determine whether my vehicle has the same or a related defect, and review my prior repair costs for reimbursement. Thank you. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  21. Forward collision avoidance, Aug 17, 2026

In December 2025, my multi purpose camera failed on 2018 Honda Odyssey EXL seemingly out of nowhere. There was no accident or incident that would have caused this to fail. With the failure of this system, my collision mitigation braking system, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation and auto-high beams no longer work until this camera is fixed. The dealer has confirmed the failure and the repair is over $2,000 to fix by Honda. The component has not been inspected by police or insurance, just Appletree Honda in Asheville, NC. The warning lamps for all of the systems affected show up everytime I start the car.

  22. Other or unspecified, Aug 16, 2026

I have contacted HONDA dealership regarding this recall, however they inform that there is no replacement part available all across the nation and no ETA for new part become available. So I would like to report to NHTSA and file a complaint. Thanks.

  23. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 15, 2026

When driving the vehicle it always has a lag in acceleration when pressing on the gas pedal. There are numerous times I can press the gas pedal and the car will not move. I've taken back to the dealer to see what their service department says.

  24. Fuel/propulsion system, Aug 12, 2026

Failed Component: Direct Fuel Injector Set. The components are currently on the vehicle and are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The failing fuel injectors create a severe engine air/fuel imbalance, which causes engine hesitation, engine stumbling during acceleration, and unpredictable power loss. This puts my family at high risk of a collision, particularly when merging onto highways, crossing busy intersections, or accelerating from a stop. Furthermore, dumping unburnt fuel into the exhaust risks overheating the catalytic converter, creating a potential fire hazard. Dealer Confirmation: Yes. The problem was confirmed by AutoNation Honda 365 in Memphis, TN, on [XXX] (Mileage: 83,452). Manufacturer Inspection: The vehicle was inspected by factory-trained technicians at an authorized Honda dealership. A case was opened with Honda Corporate, but they refused to cover the repair, stating my specific VIN batch was excluded from their warranty extension, despite suffering the exact same failure. Warning Lamps & Symptoms: An "Emissions System Problem" warning and the Check Engine Light illuminated on [XXX]. Incident Description & Cause: Honda is fully aware of this dangerous defect. They issued Service Bulletin 21-010, acknowledging that "debris from the high-pressure pump or the fuel injector machining process can cause internal wear or clogging" in 2018-2019 Odysseys. Following the TSB 21-010 protocol, the dealer pulled code P219A and performed a "Cylinder AF Test." My vehicle failed the test (Cylinder 3 running rich). The Honda technician’s official notes state: "Fail air fuel test need injector set internal failure." Honda extended the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for this known manufacturing defect, yet they are arbitrarily excluding my 2019 Odyssey, which has the exact identical internal failure documented by their own dealer. Honda's refusal to issue a full recall leaves all affected drivers at risk. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  25. Other or unspecified, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 11, 2026

All of the warning lights came on at the same time. The dealer says the internal front camera sensor has malfunctioned and has happened so much that the part is on back order.
