Recalls and investigations

  1. Back over prevention, sensing system, cameraJul 1, 2026

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2020 Odyssey vehicles. Water may enter into the rearview camera, which can cause the rearview camera image to fail to display when the vehicle is in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

A rearview image that does not display reduces the driver's view behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the rearview camera, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 24, 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's number for this recall is HOX. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 20V438. Representative owner complaints: lane departure

125 reports, newest first. Show all

  1. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 27, 2026

One morning, with no prior issues, we started driving our van and it suddenly displayed several warning lights, including brake system, adaptive cruise control, auto emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assistance. We took it to Darcars Honda in Bowie, MD who diagnosed it as a front facing camera failure. The dealer replaced the camera and kept the old one. This failure in a six year old van increased the danger of collision while operating the vehicle.

  2. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 15, 2026

U3000-49, multipurpose camera unit internal failure, no impact, no glass work

  3. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 10, 2026

I randomly received a series of 6 warning messages when starting the car on 9/3/26. They were all warnings related to the automatic safety features such as lane departure, collision detection, auto bright lights, etc.I took it to the dealer on 9/4/26 & they diagnosed an internal failure with a multi-purpose camera embedded in the rearview mirror. The dealer ordered a new part, installed and reprogrammed and recalibrated the camera. This vehicle has been owned only by me, is kept in a garage away from weather exposure, there is no reason for this part to fail on a 6 year old car with a hefty cost to the consumer.

  4. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 3, 2026

I am writing to issue a formal complaint regarding gross negligence, logistics failures, and deceptive service practices surrounding mandatory recall work on my 2020 Honda Odyssey. 1. Failure to Complete Recall Software Work After Overnight Retention On Tuesday, September 1, your service department texted stating: "the software update did not finish. We do need it overnight." We agreed to leave the vehicle. However, upon pickup, the infotainment display confirmed that the update was never completed and remains stuck at Step 5/6 (System Update 24084.7 / Front Control Box B.1.4.6). Retaining a customer's vehicle overnight under the guise of completing software work and returning it unfinished is a direct misrepresentation of labor performed. 2. Extreme Logistics Failure and Disregard for Customer Time At 12:55 PM on Wednesday, September 2, your department texted: "Ready to go now!" My wife arrived promptly, yet your staff forced her to wait until 2:40 PM—nearly two hours later—before physically releasing the car. This gross delay caused her to miss our children’s school pickup, forcing me to leave my workplace unexpectedly to handle child transportation due to your operational incompetence. 3. Cascading Network Faults and Critical Safety Systems Disabled Prior to service, the dashboard displayed minor Sensing suite warnings, for which your department quoted an exorbitant $250 diagnostic fee. Upon picking up the vehicle, the dashboard warning count escalated from 5 to approximately 9 active system failures. Due to the interrupted ECU software installation corrupting the CAN-BUS network, the following primary vehicle controls are now completely inoperable: Supplemental Restraint System (SRS / Airbag) (Newly triggered post-service) Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) System Automatic Brake Hold System Electric Parking Brake (EPB) System Electric Power Steering (EPS) Hill Start Assist Honda Sensing Suite (Lane Departure, Collision Mitigation, Road Departure) Releas

2020 Odyssey Elite multipurpose camera unit internal electronic failure DTC U3000-49. Component is still installed and available for inspection upon request. Failure disabled Honda Sensing safety systems: Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Collision Mitigation Braking, Road Departure Mitigation, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Auto High-Beam. Dash showed Honda Sensing system failure warnings. No crash, no injury. Vehicle remains drivable but without active safety features, increasing risk of crash, especially on highway. Dealer confirmed failure and reproduced it, recommended camera replacement plus ADAS static/dynamic calibration, quoted $2,243. No prior symptoms, no accident, no damage, well-maintained. First warnings appeared Aug 2026 and stayed on continuously. Manufacturer was notified and denied goodwill coverage, stated out of warranty. This is a known widespread defect — same U3000-49 failure documented in NHTSA complaints 11615376, 11584269, 11603801 for 2018-2020 Odyssey, Art's Automotive public statement on pattern, YouTube coverage 2016-2021, and eBay repair market with one seller showing 485 repairs for this exact camera and 111 watchers. Similar to prior Honda backup camera recall. Request NHTSA investigation / recall consideration.

  7. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 20, 2026

I went to the dealership today for my recall on the backup camera where my screen goes black in reverse. I also told me my dash lights had come on and could like lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning. Dealership then tells me it is a faulty internal camera in the windshield and wants to charge me $2K. Is this not a recall since it happens to a significant amount of honda odysseys and pilots? Please make this a recall as it is not safe to drive my van anymore and should be apart of the recall I took it in for.

  8. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Back over prevention, Aug 16, 2026

Error U3000-49 Multipurpose camera failure...Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, etc. do not function. I cannot even get a basic cruise control to function! Honda wants $2000+ to fix this problem that has become a common problem with 2020 Honda Odysseys. Please push for a recall!

  9. Electrical system, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 30, 2026

The electrical component is failing. I have brought in this vehicle 2 times for failed electrical issues over several years (around 2 years), and it only has 52,000 miles currently. The back up sensors no longer work, as well as warning lights for the following began to appear a year ago: collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, road departure mitigation. Sometimes, our electrical side door will not close and will keep opening when trying to shut. This electrical issues has been draining our battery, and while driving, my car shut off in the middle of the street while I was waiting for a light. After a few attempts, I got my car started again. We replaced the battery, and a few days later the car would randomly turn on and I could not use an electrical key to open the car door. Only way to open it is with the physical key. The battery had to be unplugged in order to stop the car for randomly turning on. All electrical systems would turn on in the car, including the alarm and radio, even if the radio had been off when the car was last turned off. The car has been inspected by Honda mechanics, who told me the electrical component is dying, but they don't know why, the car isn't that old, and it has very few miles on it.

The following safety warnings were displayed on my 2020 Odyssey dashboard as early as January 2025: Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Auto High-Beam Problem Adaptive Cruise Control Problem Lane Keeping Assist Problem Collision Mitigation System Problem Currently, the warning messages are displayed continuously without fail upon starting/driving the vehicle. Per my diagnosis through my local Honda service, it is an internal failure with the front-facing camera associated with these safety features.

  12. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 16, 2026

I believe the forward facing camera is having electrical issues which is causing the vehicle not to engage lane departure, traction control, Lane keeping assistance, emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, AC intermittently blowing warm and cold. There are four or five lights on the dash about this.

  13. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Jul 13, 2026

The monocular collision-avoidance camera 36160-THR-C01 has died on my 2020 Honda Odyssey EX-L. As a result, the following safety features have deactivated causing serious concerns for my safety on the road: ACC problem Collision Mitigation Problem Lake Keep Assist Problem Auto High Beam Problem The car is not even 6 years old and this $1000+ defective camera has rendered my car not up to safety standards.

  14. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 13, 2026

  15. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 6, 2026

On 5/28/26, I went to get my van checked at a repair shop through my HealthCar warranty and I was told that I needed a system update on my brake system/ADAS/LKAS/ACC systems. All the lights beeped and were lighting up on my dash. It would go on and off from time to time, usually when it was more hot out. They told me to take to dealership and they need to do a system update and should fix no additional charge. I took it to the Honda dealership service department on 7/6/26 and was told it is the multipurpose camera has an internal failure and it would cost me $2,443.00 to repair it, plus I had to pay them a diagnostic fee. I have researched and been told by other repairs shops that this problem has been occurring often and it seems due to heat is the reason this happens.

  16. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 6, 2026

Driving on the road and heard static noise from the infotainment system after an update. 19. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 3, 2026

My van is suddenly giving me warnings that include collision mitigation, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, brake hold system, and traffic sign recognition. My safety is at risk if the front camera system is not working/faulty. I was unaware of the problem and had my cruise control on when it just went off and there were warnings popping up on dashboard. There was a class action lawsuit filed against Honda on 7/2/26 in CA for certain Honda vehicles. I have had my van put on a computer that has given us the error code and is a front camera failure. The issue first appeared on 7/2/26. It will suddenly start flashing warnings when I’m Driving. It will also flash warnings right after I start the vehicle.

  20. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jun 2, 2026

one morning randomly multiple warnings turned on on the dashboard of my 2020 honda odyssey . the following warnings turned on and have stayed on since: Adaptive Cruise Control Problem, Lane Keeping Assist Problem, Collision Mitigation System Problem, Road departure Mitigation Problem, Auto High-beam problem, and Brake System. This appears to be a common issue when searching online and appears to be a sensor issue.

  21. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 30, 2026

The ADAS system doesn't work. The forward collision system, adaptive speed control, and lane keeping assist have all shown malfunction errors and no longer work.

  22. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 15, 2026

  23. Electrical system, Fuel/propulsion system, Lane departure, May 7, 2026

The blind spot system was a problem when I purchased the car, it spent 15 days in service in the first 30 days of ownership to address the issues. Now, I after another light came on I discovered 9 open recalls on the vehicle that were not disclosed prior to purchase.

  24. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, May 5, 2026

While driving the vehicle under normal conditions, multiple advanced driver assistance and safety systems suddenly became unavailable without warning. The systems affected include Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Assistance, and related safety features that rely on the forward-facing camera. The failures occurred at the same time and were indicated by warning messages displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized dealer, who confirmed a diagnostic trouble code indicating an internal electronic failure of the forward multipurpose camera. The failed component is installed behind the windshield and is available for inspection upon request. The dealer stated that no accident, physical damage, misuse, or external cause was identified. After the camera failure was identified, the vehicle also briefly displayed a transmission system warning message that later cleared on its own. In addition, the center display screen has shown unstable behavior while driving, including unexpected resets and flashing back to the navigation screen. The sudden loss of collision mitigation, lane assistance, and warning systems reduces the vehicle’s ability to assist in avoiding crashes, particularly in emergency situations, and increases safety risk to the driver, passengers, and others on the road.
