  1. Engine, Jul 6, 2025

Honda has been serviced at Honda of Ames #190 since 2022. 2023 - Issues with the engine stalling when it goes into idle mode at a stop. September 2023 – contacted Honda of Ames, IA dealer. They indicated it’s the battery which will need replaced. Took the car to Interstate Battery on 9/26/2023 where it tested at 12.5 volts out of possible 12.6 volts. Then took the car to dealer who insisted it was an issue with the battery. Replaced battery for $391. Problem continued. In 2024 there was a recall re: a known issue with the engine idle functionality requiring a software update. Took the vehicle in for the software update. Complained to the dealer that I unnecessarily spent $390 on new battery when that wasn’t the issue. They refused to refund any money. Problem persisted. On 5/21/2025 the car was brought into dealership for 100k service. I complained again that the auto-idle feature still stalling. Was told that it's not a universal known problem, they don’t have a fix that he’s aware of other than to check the battery. I explained we’ve been through this before and brought up Sept 2023 battery situation. He stated that the quick/handheld battery testers are not reliable; repair shops have “the big testers in the back” that are more reliable – that is what they will test my battery on. I asked if they could turn off the feature permanently and was told no. When car was ready I was told that the battery life tested fine. They did a software upgrade and I will need to drive it and just see if the stall issue continues. He repeated that it’s not a “universal known problem” and there was nothing further he could do. 7/5/2025 – the auto-idle has stalled twice since the service on 5/21/2025. Stalling in an intersection, at a red light, bottom of an off-ramp, etc.i s a serious and highly concerning safety issue.

  2. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 3, 2025

My Vehicle was at the dealer for service in March of 2025. At that time they performed RECALL 23-008 although the vehicle did not have issues with the idle stop system. Since some time in June, at multiple occasions, the vehicle shifted to Park on its own when restarting from idle stop. Last night, the vehicle fully shut off and lost all electrical power when restarting from idle stop leaving me stranded in the dark at a busy intersection without the ability to turn on my hazard lights. The vehicle repowered after a few minutes. When the system restarted, the info-tainment system activated the anti theft software which happens during full power loss.

  3. Electrical system, Jul 2, 2025

The power tailgate control module has been failing. That makes power tailgate problem light come on, than the tailgate beeps and eventually fails. It unlatches itself, and won't latch until the control module has been replaced. My control module has been replaced 3 times, and now a week later after being replaced my tailgate has failed again, the power tailgate problem light is on and tailgate won't open. I was told by Honda dealership that theres a water leak that's causing it. Along with replacing the unit they are trying to seal it but it's still failing.

  8. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 19, 2025

The problem first appeared in May 2025 when multiple system failure lights illuminated simultaneously. After confirming the battery and alternator were in good condition, I took the van to Honda of Cleveland (2701 S Lee Hwy, Cleveland, TN 37311) for a diagnosis. Their service department confirmed that the ADAS Front Camera (36160-THR-A91) had failed, which disabled the following safety systems: Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Lane Keeping Assistance. I asked if this is a wear component (expected to need replacement over time) and was informed that it is not. The quoted cost to replace the camera and calibrate was approximately $1,400.

  9. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jun 11, 2025

Multipurpose front windshield camera stops working and many safety features are affected by this camera. Lane departure warning is not working, lane keeping assistance not working, blind spot warning not working, brake system warnings. The vehicle has been inspected by the dealership and they confirm that the cause of all this problems is the Multipurpose front windshield camera. There was no warnings at all when this happens.

  10. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jun 10, 2025

Multiple warning lights: 1. ACC- adaptive cruise control 2. LKAS- lane keeping assist problem 3. Collision Mitigation System Problem 4. Road Departure Mitigation System Problem 5. Auto high beam Problem Safety issues: With almost all of these not working the risk of avoiding a possible accident is greatly increased. An independent service center read errors for the CAN. No prior warnings, they just came up. I have replaced the battery and the issues were not resolved. An inspection is possible.

  11. Electrical system, Jun 6, 2025

The start/stop system engaging at a red light on a busy highway shutting the engine off. When the light turned green and my foot was released from the brake the vehicle would not restart. The vehicle would not go into neutral so i was stuck in the lane of a major highway. This happened twice before and Honda said they needed to reprogram the system. They did and now it has happened again leaving me and my family in a very dangerous situation.

  12. Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 2, 2025

The front camera/sensor broke and is not covered under Honda’s warranty. This affects the adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation system, road departed mitigation, and auto high-beam.

  13. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 2, 2025

Recently, my 2020 Honda Odyssey required a new battery replacement. Shortly after the battery was replaced, the front camera system failed unexpectedly. This failure has caused a complete loss of all safety features dependent on the front camera, including but not limited to: Lane Keep Assist System (LKAS) Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) Road Departure Mitigation System (RDM) A diagnostic assessment revealed that the front camera system needs replacement with an estimated cost of $1,200. This issue arose without any previous physical damage to the camera or windshield and appears to be electronic or firmware related. According to Honda, this happens frequently when a battery is replaced. Context of Vehicle History: This vehicle has already been subject to 11+ recalls, which have affected various major systems and components. The accumulation of defects and the continuing need for critical system repairs is deeply concerning, particularly for a relatively recent model known for its family-oriented safety features. Owner’s Statement: Given the number of recalls and now a costly camera system failure that directly affects key safety functions, I find this situation unacceptable for a vehicle of this age and mileage (72,000). The loss of these features significantly compromises driver and passenger safety. I believe this issue may be part of a broader reliability concern and request that Honda (or the responsible service entity) address this matter urgently and consider full or partial financial assistance for the repair.

  14. Electrical system, Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Jun 2, 2025

Our Odyssey has had mounting concerns w/electrical system. These are safety issues. 10/20. Work done related to electrical system-rear camera having issues. Left/rt rear door wires were replaced due to recall. Software update completed. Gage control module software updated-know issue.10/23: rear windshield wiper not functioning-electrical issue & pump malfunctioned. Idol stop was not properly working. The car would stall out at stoplights as lifting foot off the brake & attempting to accelerate. Battery was replaced at this time & the vehicle was only 3 years old-we were charged. Issues with our car are electrical related & are seeing many others with similar issues. 8/24-11/24: key fob batteries died. After batteries were changed, issues with the power windows began immediately. Windows would not going/up or down all the way and were sticking. Soon after they stopped working all together. Auto locks wouldn’t work & the gas tank latch had to manually open to fill the gas tank. Finally took the car in for diagnosis. Said the motor in the door was broken & needed to be replaced. We were not convinced that this was the real issue b/c the problem began immediately after the fob battery issue. Instead of new parts, the dealer glued pieces together & gave us a discounted price. This was & is a real safety concern especially knowing windows were altogether not functioning & we don't believe that it was properly addressed. 2/25: After snow/icy weather front passenger side windshield wiper dispenser/sprayer wasn’t working. Upon checking, discovered it had become dislodged. Adjusted the piece & reattached this piece into place. As soon as car was turned on ,right after reinserting the piece into place warning lights came on-all brake/lane mitigation lights. After diagnosis, said it was an issue with camera at windshield & the camera needed to be replaced. Odyssey groups state electrical issue are know and many w/2020 Odysseys. 5/25 Issues are beginning again with idol stop.

  15. Other or unspecified, May 29, 2025

Rear tailgate doesn't open with keyfob or with switch on the back door. it had to be pulled hard to open in manually and pushed hard manually to close it. There are so many incidents reported on line for the same. The fix seems be a control board (Which gets bad due to water getting in the compartment (or on the board). We have talked to Honda - as per them there is no active recall on this.

  16. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 19, 2025

Starting at 50,000, I began receiving six different warning signs every time I turn on my car: (1) collision mitigation problem, (2) auto high beam warning, (3) lane keeping assist problem, (4) road departure mitigation problem, (5) adaptive cruise control problem, and (6) brake system light stays on. Online forums show this is a pervasive problem with 2020-2021 Odysseys at around 50,000 miles. Took it dealer for diagnostic, paid $229, and told me it would cost $2,000+ to fix.

  17. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 13, 2025

The camera is faulty and I've brought it in once early on and the dealer said a wire needed to be tightened. It happened again and they said no such loose wire this time. The code says camera needs to be replaced. I don't even have 100k miles on this car and it's going bad. Faulty part and I know this is happening a lot.

  18. Forward collision avoidance, May 13, 2025

The vehicle automatically brakes when approaching a small bridge crossing that had a slight 2 inch lip from pavement to bridge concrete , it also tries to alert of a collision when going around a slight curve when a vehicle is passing .

  19. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 8, 2025

Turned on the car. It was parked for 1 day after the last driving event with no issues. Today was 15 degrees hotter than yesterday. The following errors popped up on the dashboard: Adaptive cruise control problem Collision mitigation system problem Lane keeping assist problem Road departure mitigation system problem Auto high beam problem All of the advanced safety features which utilize the front camera and sensors are deactivated. Car was turned off and restarted multiple times, windshield cleaned, and car cooled down, but the warnings remain each time. This specific issue has happened 5 times over the past year. The dealer was never able to replicate the issue as it would go away as soon as the car was restarted. This time, the warning lights would not go away.

  20. Power train, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, May 6, 2025

Subject: Urgent Vehicle Safety Concern – Sudden Malfunction and Safety Risk On [XXX], at approximately [XXX, I experienced a traumatic incident when my vehicle unexpectedly malfunctioned while I was driving home. After making a left turn on a green signal from [XXX] toward the Community, the car suddenly stalled. By God's grace, I managed to cross Woodbridge Avenue before stopping, avoiding a major traffic obstruction. However, it came to a complete stop in the middle of the street, creating a hazardous situation. After a brief pause, the car moved approximately 10 yards before stopping again, becoming completely immobile in the middle of a public road. Attempts to jump-start the battery failed. All warning lights turned on, but the engine would not start. The vehicle could not be restarted or moved under its own power. 911 was called, and police responded promptly to the scene. With the assistance of my wife, police officers, and local neighbors, a tow company was called to remove the vehicle from the roadway. It was then towed and parked in a nearby lot. This incident was highly traumatic and posed a serious threat to my safety, my family's safety, and the safety of the public. Diagnostics and expert assessments indicate the issue may be related to a manufacturer defect, which is deeply concerning given that this is a new vehicle. At this time, the vehicle is no longer drivable. I am seeking urgent assistance to resolve this matter with the manufacturer and to ensure that other consumers are not exposed to similar risks. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  21. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, May 2, 2025

The front camera has failed for apparently no reason at all. There has been no crash, no damage on our end. We turned the car on and all of the safety warnings came on. The dealership has inspected it and said the code is for the camera failing. Many warning lights appear on the dash due to none of the safety features working without the front camera. This has caused all of the adaptive safety features to fail. There have been no recalls yet, despite the recalls for the rear camera, and many other odyssey owners having the same issue with the front camera. We have reported it to honda and were told that it has been reported by others, but not enough times to issue a recall.
