Vehicle speed control, accelerator pedalOct 10, 2019
Dorman Products, Inc. (Dorman) is recalling certain Accelerator Pedal Assemblies part numbers 699-114 and 825-5029-1, sold as replacement parts for 2003-2006 Acura MDX, 2004-2008 Acura TL and TSX, 2003-2007 Honda Accord, 2005-2006 Honda CR-V, 2007-2011 Honda Element, 2005-2008 Honda Pilot and 2006-2014 Honda Ridgeline vehicles. The rotating portion of the accelerator pedal assembly may bind. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 124, "Accelerator Control Systems."
If the accelerator pedal binds, the engine may not quickly return to idle after the pedal is no longer pressed, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dorman will notify owners, and qualified service facilities will replace the affected accelerator pedal assemblies, free of charge. The recall began December 9, 2019. Owners may contact Dorman customer service at 1-800-523-2492, using option 5. Dorman's number for this recall is AS1019XXXX.

Honda is recalling certain model year 2005 Pilot vehicles manufactured July 29, 2004, through August 29, 2005; model year 2005-2006 Acura MDX vehicles manufactured September 16, 2004, through September 22, 2005; and model year 2005 Acura RL vehicles manufactured March 1, 2004, through June 29, 2005. An electrical capacitor may have been damaged during the manufacturing of the Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) control module causing intermittent, automatic, minor brake application. However, if the driver applies the brakes while the VSA is malfunctioning, the vehicle may come to an abrupt stop. Additionally, due to a loose ground connection, certain model year 2005 Pilots have a VSA system that may apply partial brake force, without the illumination of the brake lights, whether or not the driver is using the brakes.
Sudden inadvertent braking, especially without illumination of the brake lights, may increase the risk of a vehicle crash.
Owners will be notified and instructed to take their vehicles to a dealer of their respective brand. The dealer will install a partial wiring harness containing a capacitor for the VSA modulator, free of charge. The affected model year 2005 Pilots will have their ground connection tightened. HONDA IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2004 CR-V; MODEL YEAR 2003 THROUGH 2005 PILOT; AND MODEL YEAR 2002 AND 2003 CIVIC VEHICLES. IN MARCH 2012, HONDA FILED A DEFECT REPORT TO RECALL CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2002 THROUGH 2004 CR-V AND CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2003 PILOT VEHICLES. IN AUGUST 2012, HONDA INFORMED THE AGENCY THAT IT WAS INCLUDING AN ADDITIONAL 820,789 VEHICLES INCLUDING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2004 AND 2005 PILOTS AND MODEL YEAR 2002 AND 2003 CIVICS. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF VEHICLES BEING RECALLED IS NOW 1,375,217. DUE TO TENSION FROM THE COMBINATION SWITCH WIRING HARNESS, WEAR ON THE SURFACE OF THE ELECTRICAL TERMINAL CAN OCCUR, YIELDING COPPER OXIDE, WHICH INCREASES ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE. INCREASED ELECTRICAL RESISTANCE MAY CAUSE THE TERMINAL ENDS TO MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR.
IF THE TERMINAL ENDS MELT WITHIN THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS MAY BECOME INOPERATIVE, REDUCING DRIVER VISIBILITY AND INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
HONDA WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL REPAIR THE LOW BEAM TERMINAL HARNESS OR REPLACE THE LIGHTING SWITCH AS NECESSARY, FREE OF CHARGE. THE ORIGINAL RECALL BEGAN IN APRIL 2012. OWNERS OF VEHICLES INVOLVED IN THE SEPTEMBER 2012 EXPANSION WILL BE NOTIFIED IN SEPTEMBER 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HONDA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-800-999-1009.

THIS VEHICLE WHICH NEVER HAS HAD A PROBLEM WAS TAKEN IN FOR THE AIR BAG RECALL TO THE HONDA DEALER. THE VEHICLE HAD ~170K MILES. WITHIN WEEKS OF THE EVENT THE AIR BAG SENSOR WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR INVESTIGATION AND REPAIR. THE DEALER ADVISES THAT BOTH FRONT BUMPER AIR BAG SENSORS SIMULTANEOUSLY WENT BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SAID THIS WAS NOT IN ANYWAY ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL WORK. I DON'T BUY IT AND SEE THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME IDENTICAL CHALLENGE SHORTLY AFTER RECALL WORK WAS PERFORMED. I AM CERTAIN A AUTHORIZED REPLACEMENT PART INCOMPATIBILITY EXISTS OR A PRESCRIBED REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE IS FLAWED. THIS IS SIMILAR TO 10CFR PART 21 SAFETY RELATED ISSUE IN US COMMERCIAL NUCLEAR POWER REGULATIONS THAT I WORK IN AND MUST BE ACTED UPON BY THE NTSB. THE AIRBAG SAFETY SYSTEM WAS RETURNED NON-FUNCTIONAL BECAUSE OF MY REFUSAL TO PAY THE DEALER NEARLY $500 FOR REPAIRS I KNOW THE PROCESS IS ABSOLUTELY ACCOUNTABLE FOR INDUCING. THE REPLACEMENT IS NOT A LIKE-FOR-LIKE COMPATIBLE UNIT OR THE DEALERS ARE NOT INSTALLING THE REPLACEMENTS CORRECTLY PUTTING THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS AT SUDDEN SAFETY RISK WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT 70 MPH. MY 2005 HONDA PILOT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. MY LOCAL MECHANICS SCANNED THE COMPUTER CODE P0741, TORQUE CLUTCH SOLENOID. AFTER HE REPLACE THE SOLENOID AND CLEARED THE CODE I DROVE IT FOR ABOUT 50 MILES BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. SO I TOOK IT BACK THE THE SHOP TO HAVE THE CODE SCAN AGAIN. THE SAME CODE, P0741 APPEAR IN HIS SCANNER. HE RECHECK THE REPLACEMENTAL PART FOR MALFUNCTION AND CONNECTION ISSUES WITH NO ISSUES. SO I TOOK IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP TO HAVE A SECOND OPINION. THE TRANS SHOP EXAM THE TRAN AND FOUND NO ISSUES ALSO. BOTH SHOPS SUGGEST THAT THERE MUST BE AN INTERIOR ISSUE IN THE TRAN ITSELF. MY ONLY OPTION ARE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRAN OR DRIVE IT AS LONG AS IT IS DRIVING FINE. I THINK HONDA KNOW OF THIS INTERIOR ISSUE AND DON'T WANT TO RECALL THE VEHICLES. REPLACING A TRAN ISN'T A CHEAP FIX.

WHILE DRIVING IN NORMAL CONDITIONS AT ANY SPEED AT ANY TIME IT ON ANY TYPE OF ROADWAY FEELS AS IF THE BRAKE IS BEING SLAMMED ON AND PULLS THE CAR SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT WITHOUT ANY INPUT FROM THE DRIVER. I HAVE THIS OCCUR DAILY. THE VSA LIGHT AND MANY TIMES THE TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT IMMUNIMATE JUST PRIOR OR AT THE TIME OF THE EVENT. IT IS AT THE HONDA DEALER WHO FIRST WANTED ME TO REPLACE THE REAR END BUT THEY SAY IT IS A FAULTY SENSOR AND ARE REPLACING IT FOR ABOUT $800 BUT THEY ARE STILL NOT SURE THAT IS THE PROBLEM. I SAW THE RECALL FOR 2013 PART OF THE VSA AND THEY SAY THAT WAS FIXED BACK THEN. SO WHAT IS GOING ON NOW THIS CONTINUES TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND COSTLY.

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, MY 2005 PILOT MODEL EXL HAS 90,000 MILES. RECENTLY THE VSA LIGHT STARTED TO COME ON RANDOMLY WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CAR. WHENEVER THAT HAPPENED THERE WOULD ALSO BE A LOUD 'CHUNK' NOISE THAT ACCOMPANIED IT AND FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP. HOWEVER TODAY WHEN IT HAPPENED, I COULD NOT TURN OFF THE VSA FUNCTION AND THE WORST PART WAS THAT THE MALFUNCTION OF THE VSA HAD LOCKED THE BRAKES ONCE WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD. DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR FOR A FEW SECONDS AND ALTHOUGH THIS ONLY OCCURRED ONE TIME, IT WAS AN EXTREMELY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE.

VSA WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY APPLIED BRAKE ITSELF FOR NO REASON. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR DUE TO PANIC OF UNKNOWING WHAT HAPPEN. I PULLED THE CAR OVER AND TOOK A QUICK PICTURE OF MALFUNCTION VSA WARNING LIGHTS. THEN, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND START AGAIN LATER TO CHECK IF ANYTHING HAS GONE WRONG. VSA LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE CAR IS DRIVING AS NORMAL. I HAD NOTIFIED THIS VSA WARNING LITE ON IGNITION BEFORE THE COLD START IN THE MORNING TO LOCAL DEALER SINCE LAST YEAR. THEY SAID THAT THEY CAN'T FIND ANY ERROR CODE IN DIAGNOSIS. IN LATELY INCIDENT, THEY FINALLY TOOK THE MATTER SERIOUSLY THEN THEY FOUND YAW SENSOR ERROR CODE BUT THEY STILL CAN'T GUARANTEE THE VSA PROBLEM WILL BE SOLVED. I WISH AHC WILL LOOK INTO THIS VSA PROBLEM TO HELP OUT THE OWNERS AND I THINK THERE ARE MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM LIKE ME.

D LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AS I WAS GOING DOWN THE INTERSTATE. AFTER I STOPPED I CHECK GAS COVER AND TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVELS. BOTH OK. HAPPENED AGAIN SO I WENT TO GET CODE READ...THROWING CODE P0872 AND CODE 0700. I HAD THIS PROBLEM A FEW YEARS AGO AND HONDA FIXED PROBLEM FOR ALMOST $500. WHY IS IT HAPPENING AGAIN?

LOSS OF POWER ON HIGHWAY EVEN WHEN ACCELERATOR ENGAGED. HAD TO PULL OVER THE SHOULDER. VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN. SMOKE WAS COMING FROM THE REAR OF VEHICLE BUT SENT AWAY AFTER ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT NEAREST HONDA DEALER CITED A RADIATOR LEAK THAT LIKELY GOT INTO THE TRANSMISSION LINE.

AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. AFTER I TOOK IT IN FOR THE RECALL, THE DEALER SAID THE SENSOR WAS BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $200. I HAD THAT DONE AND THE SECOND DAY FOLLOWING, IT WAS ON AGAIN. IT INTERMITTENTLY LIT FOR ABOUT 3 MONTHS. NOW IT IS ALMOST ALWAYS ON. I SEE SIMILAR ISSUES LISTED. GOD FORBID THEY DON'T WORK WHEN I NEED THEM. NOT THRILLED WITH THE PILOT. TRANSMISSION LIGHT ALSO INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTS (BLINKING D). I HAD THIS FIXED YEARS AGO AFTER THE DEALER SAID NEW TRANS FOR $3,000. I DIDN'T BITE ON THAT ONE BECAUSE THE SHIFTING WAS SEEMLESS. SEEMS THAT MECHANICS MAYBE RELY ON COMPUTER TOO MUCH. HAD SWITCH CHANGED OUT AND IT STOPPED FOR ABOUT 2 YEARS. NOW IT'S ON INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. TIRE PRESSURE IS ANOTHER PROBLEM. ELECTRONICS STINK!

AT SPEEDS UP TO APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CAR RANDOMLY HAS A SHUDDER OR VIBRATION. IT IS NOT FELT IN THE STEERING BUT IN THE BODY OF THE CAR. WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED HARDER OR IF THE GEAR SELECTOR IS MOVED TO D3 THE SHUDDER STOPS. THIS OCCURRED FROM 60K MILE WHEN PURCHASED TO NOW AT 170K MILES. DEALER CAN'T IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM BUT RECOMMENDS A NEW TORQUE CONVERTER. HONDA AMERICA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING BECAUSE OF THE AGE. I'VE SEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME SYMPTOMS. HONDA IS IGNORING THAT THIS PROBLEM EXISTS. IT POINT TO TRANSMISSION ISSUES. TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED, ROTATED, REBALANCED, REALIGNED AND IT HAD NO EFFECT ON THE PROBLEM.

THE VEHICLE JUMPS ON AND OFF AND I TEND TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WITH STEERING. FURTHER CHECK REVEALED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE.

MY AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. I TOOK MY PILOT IN FOR THE RECALL AND ASSUMED THAT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER I PICKED UP MY VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STILL ON. THE MECHANICS FAILED TO NOTIFY ME OF THE PROBLEM AND SAID THIS IS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL. THIS MAKES NO SENSE TO ME SINCE MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 HONDA PILOT. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE VSA WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V092000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
