Representative owner complaints: fuel/propulsion system

116 reports, newest first. Show all

  1. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 26, 2026

VEHICLE RUNNING ROUGH AND EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER ANALYZED AND FOUND ERROR CODE P0430. ALL FUEL INJECTORS REPLACED AT COST OF $1,097.53 WHEN VEHICLE HAD ONLY 76,890 MILES.

  2. Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 9, 2026

My 2019 Honda Pilot EX AWD (VIN [XXX]) with approximately 80,000 miles developed a check engine light along with dashboard messages indicating an Emissions System Problem and AWD System Problem. The vehicle continued to drive normally, but the warnings repeatedly returned. Diagnostic code P0172 (System Too Rich, Bank 1) was present. The vehicle was inspected by an authorized Honda dealer on XXX which diagnosed failed fuel injectors and recommended replacement of the injector assembly at a cost of approximately $1,689. The failed components and dealer records are available for inspection upon request. While the vehicle has not experienced a loss of propulsion, I am concerned that a fuel injector defect could lead to engine performance issues, increased emissions, reduced reliability, or unsafe operating conditions if the condition worsens while driving. Honda has previously acknowledged fuel injector issues on certain 2017-2019 Honda Pilot vehicles and issued a warranty extension covering fuel injector repairs for eligible VINs. However, despite a dealer diagnosis of failed fuel injectors, I was informed that my VIN is not covered by the existing warranty extension. The vehicle has been inspected and the injector failure has been confirmed by a Honda dealership. Prior to diagnosis, the only symptoms were the check engine light and the Emissions System Problem and AWD System Problem warning messages. These warnings first appeared at approximately 80,000 miles. I am submitting this complaint because the failure appears similar to fuel injector issues already recognized by Honda, yet my vehicle is excluded from the existing warranty extension coverage. I believe NHTSA should review whether additional 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles outside the currently covered VIN population are experiencing similar fuel injector failures. 3. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 8, 2026

I am having transmission issues with my 2019 Honda pilot. There is an extended warranty service bulletin out, Honda USA claims my vehicle does not fall under that extended warranty based on the VIN. I am experiencing all of the symptoms of the fuel injector issues that they report in the bulletin. I am unable to get anybody at Honda to help me.

  4. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 8, 2026

Have a 2019 Honda Pilot - Fuel injector failure/Catalytic Converter at 115,000 miles. estimated cost over 2,200. KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT: Honda Service Bulletins 20-100, 21-002, 22-002 acknowledge widespread fuel injector failures in 2019 Honda Pilots caused by debris from manufacturing process. Honda extended warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for certain VINs. My VIN is excluded despite identical failures and many others complaint of the same issue. Something needs to be done to hold Honda accountable!!!!

  5. Other or unspecified, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 2, 2026

The vehicle experienced a check engine light with code P0430 and a failed Air/Fuel ratio test due to defective fuel injectors leaking raw fuel into the exhaust bank. This failure completely mirrors the factory defect in Honda Service Bulletin A21-010 (NHTSA ID: 10187008), which extends the fuel injector warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles. A certified Honda dealer verified the exact codes and components but explicitly denied the mandatory corporate warranty extension, attempting to charge $1,804.51 out-of-pocket and ignoring subsequent communication. Unburned raw fuel dumping into the catalytic converter presents a progressive engine failure and exhaust safety hazard.

Left home driving 5 min down the road the car suddenly started hiccuping as to power I almost wrecked it recovered but started again …was a prime example of that fuel pump issue …i turned around drove home barely made it going slow …smelling a low grade sweetish burning smell…made it home checked and found this recall online of the fuel pump issue…called dealership asked to get this fixed they told me I had to get it there they would not provide a tow and the recall issue has made it unsafe to drive…the problem is their fault and now I am expected to to pay 200 to get there…they should tow and fix… they also would not cover a loaner I’m out transportation for days and this has caused all sorts of issues as I have to get to work etc…

  7. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 12, 2026

I am submitting this complaint regarding my 2019 Honda Pilot after experiencing a failure of the fuel rail assembly that resulted in the check engine light illuminating and required repair at my own expense. My vehicle exhibited the same symptoms and was diagnosed with the same fuel rail issue that is described in Honda’s existing recall for certain 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles. However, when I contacted Honda, I was informed that my VIN was not included within the recall population, despite my vehicle experiencing the identical failure. The fuel rail failure caused the check engine light to illuminate and required replacement of the defective fuel rail. Because my vehicle was excluded from the recall, Honda declined to cover the repair, and I was forced to pay the full cost out of pocket. I believe this demonstrates that the defect is not limited to the VIN range identified in the recall. My vehicle experienced the exact condition addressed by Honda’s recall, yet I received no assistance solely because my VIN was not included. Owners of vehicles with the same defect should not be responsible for repair costs simply because their vehicle falls outside the current recall range. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the recall population should be expanded to include additional 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles affected by this same fuel rail defect and that Honda reimburse owners who have paid for repairs related to this safety issue.

  8. Fuel/propulsion system, Jul 2, 2026

2019 Honda pilot with under 60k miles, no obvious symptoms but Codes P219B and P0430 coming up, multiple sites reporting common recall for fuel injector issue with these codes. 9. Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 26, 2026

Fuel started to pour from under the vehicle above the gas tank. The seal on the fuel pump was causing this when the vehicle was turned on. The fuel pump was on recall for this failure and the vehicle was towed to the Honda AutoNation Dealership in Mobile, AL. While there the franchise dealership executed Safety Recall 21-034 on my 2019 Honda Pilot; the fuel pump. The technician then sent us a video saying the fuel pump did not fix the problem as a rodent had chewed through the fuel line near the fuel pump above the gas tank. He did not show an image of this damage nor produce evidence of rodents. During the repair, the technician mechanically damaged the high-pressure fuel line. The line subsequently continues to leak gas under pressure, creating an immediate engine fire hazard. The dealer then falsified paperwork blaming rodents to escape liability. This is evident by the crescent shaped slice through the fuel line. I have video proof showing the difference in fuel leaks from the pump and then from the sliced fuel line.

  11. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 18, 2026

I am submitting this complaint regarding a fuel injector failure and emissions system malfunction in my 2019 Honda Pilot. At the time of the failure, the vehicle had approximately 94,693 miles and had been routinely maintained. On [XXX], while traveling from Ohio to Pennsylvania with my family, the vehicle displayed an "Emission System Problem" warning and illuminated the check engine light. The vehicle was diagnosed by Faulkner Honda in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The dealership found DTC P0430 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) and performed an air/fuel ratio test. According to the dealership, four of the six cylinders were running rich due to excessive fuel delivery. The dealership recommended replacement of the fuel injectors, and all six fuel injectors were replaced. The injector repair cost approximately $1,100. The dealership advised that possible causes included internal fuel injector failure or carbon buildup but could not provide a definitive explanation for the failure. Neither the dealership nor Honda could explain why my vehicle was excluded from Honda's fuel injector warranty extension despite exhibiting the same symptoms and requiring the same repair associated with that program. I was advised that the warranty extension applies only to certain VINs produced during specific manufacturing periods and facilities. However, my vehicle experienced the same failure pattern, including a rich-running condition, emissions-system warning, catalyst-efficiency diagnostic code, and replacement of the fuel injectors. While researching the issue, I reviewed NHTSA complaints involving 2019 Honda Pilot vehicles. Numerous complaints describe similar fuel injector failures, emissions-system warnings, catalyst-efficiency codes, and injector replacements. Based on the number of similar complaints, the affected vehicle population may extend beyond the VIN range currently covered by Honda's warranty extension. Vehicle: 2019 Honda Pilot VIN: [XXX] My 2019 Honda Pilot is experiencing an "Emissions System Problem" accompanied by Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P219A (Air-Fuel Ratio Imbalance). This defect causes engine hesitation, rough idling, and a severe risk of sudden loss of motive power or engine stalling while driving at highway speeds, presenting a significant safety hazard to myself and other motorists. American Honda is fully aware of this manufacturing defect. They issued Service Bulletins 20-100 and 21-010 extending the warranty to 10 years/150,000 miles for this exact code and symptom on 2017–2019 Honda Pilots due to defective fuel injectors and faulty PCM software. However, Honda has arbitrarily excluded my specific VIN from this extension (case number Case # XXX). Honda Corporate has officially denied assistance, forcing me to drive a vehicle with a known fuel system defect that threatens sudden vehicle failure in traffic. I request that the NHTSA investigate Honda’s arbitrary exclusion of affected VINs for this acknowledged safety defect. Fuel injector problem requiring replacement. Same code as known vehicles of same make and model under warranty extension. My VIN was not listed to qualify for extended warranty and Honda US refused any assistance in coverage.

  14. Fuel/propulsion system, May 13, 2026

Fuel pump recall performed. Since repair, check engine light appears every time fuel is added. Issue did not exist prior to recall service

  15. Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 28, 2026

The malfunction indictator light came on due to diagnostic trouble code P0430 (front bank catalyst system efficiency below threshold [bank 2]) while driving. The vehicle has 64,240 miles and has had zero symptoms prior to the DTC appearing. This problem is noted in Service Bulletin 21-010 for Honda Pilots year 2017-2019, but my Vin was not included in the "Vin range". I am taking the vehicle in to the dealer for an inspection and diagnostic, but I believe the "Vin range" should be updated to include my vehicle.

  16. Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 15, 2026

An “Emissions System Problem” warning message appeared intermittently on the dashboard while driving. The warning light would sometimes turn off after restarting the vehicle, but the issue persisted in the vehicle’s stored diagnostic system. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, where a diagnostic scan confirmed a P0430 code (catalyst system efficiency below threshold). The dealer identified the likely cause as failing fuel injectors and recommended replacement of the injector system. The issue was confirmed by the dealership and is reproducible through stored fault codes, even when the warning light is not actively displayed. This condition may impact engine performance, fuel mixture, and emissions system operation. In certain situations, this could lead to reduced engine performance or hesitation, which may affect the ability to safely accelerate or merge into traffic. The vehicle has been regularly maintained according to manufacturer recommendations. There were no significant warning signs prior to the initial dashboard alert other than the intermittent warning message. The failed components (fuel injectors) should be available for inspection upon request through the servicing dealership.

Noise underwood sounds like valve spring, dealer says high pressure fuel pump. Emissions system problem trouble code on dash. Rough start, vehicle sluggish sometimes, hesitates. Noise gets louder upon acceleration.

  19. Fuel/propulsion system, Mar 7, 2026

Emission system problem light is on. It says that there is a problem with fuel injector. Low power when accelerating. Engine is working harder than before given low efficiency.

Fuel gage read incorrectly staing we had gas and estimated fuel for 70 miles. We stalled while driving. Several error lights came on, car would not start. After researching we saw alot of complaints about fuel Guage issues so we were able to get 2 gal of gas and then make it to a gas station. Took car in for diagnostic, no known problem. ????

Last year fuel pump in gas tank was fixed/recalled, fixed 2/2025, now 2/2026 the high efficiecy fuel pump in engine bay started making loud noises--no warning/codes--just loud banging noise, mechanic confirmed high efficiency fuel pump failing. search on youtube also confirms many year/models as mine having same issue

The"MIL" reported "Emmisions System Problem" The Dealer stated "DIAG Code P219A" was the underying cause, and the reccomended solution was to "replace fuel injectors and check for PGM updates". I paid for the repairs, and took the vehichle home. After some research I discovered that these symptoms, codes, replacement parts etc.. are all consistant with a Honda Service Bulletin (MC-10183514-0001) as refrenced by NHTSA ID 10183514. where Honda was extending the warentee for the fuel injectors. After reviewing the document I found that my VIN is not included in the scope of the "warentee extension" I opened case number 16127621 with AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., INC. to inquire further and get a reasonable answer as to why my VIN was excluded from scope, they were responsive, but provided no explanation other than my VIN " is not included in this campaign for fuel injector concerns. Unfortunately, your vehicle is not eligible for reimbursement at this time." I would like to have it "on record" that I have voiced concerns suspecting this is not a coinsidence, and the scope of the recall should be expanded.

Needed a steering rack. Needed a new transmission due to a torque converter failure. Now AWD is intermittently faulty needing fuel injectors. All within 1 year

Dashboard warning "Emissions System Problem". Trouble code - P0430 / Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2. Brought it in to the dealer, and required the fuel injection to be replaced. There is recall for model year 2016-2019 Honda Pilot V6, but was told by the dealer this car was not part of the recall based on the VIN#. Fuel Pump was having problem, and replaced under recall on 09/28/2023 (54K miles).

My car is very hesitant while driving, it pulsates as well. I can be driving at 65mph and next thing I’m doing 45-50 and the engine is sputtering and the dashboard lights up with check engine lights.I know there’s a recall on the fuel injectors for the model year I own but mine is not included in the recall which I think it should be. Scanned the codes and got P0430 and P219B which is the fuel injectors as well as raw fuel making its way back to the catalytic converter. I’ve read of thousands of Honda owners with the same issues of being left high and dry by Honda just because they refuse to include vin numbers that should have been in the original recall. I really hope this recall can be expanded as my car has been babied with only 49K miles on it. Thank you
