Representative owner complaints: lane departure

44 reports, newest first. Show all

  1. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 15, 2026

The entire ADAS suddenly failed. the vehicle started cycling through all warning indicators (adaptive cruise control problem, abs problem, lane keep assist problem, brake mitigation system problem etc) brought it to Honda today and they confirmed that the "multi purpose camera/millimeter wave radar unit with aiming" had failed and needed to be replaced. Honda charged $1764.14 for all work to fix this on 9/15/2026

  2. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 9, 2026

Vehicle has multiple safety system failures. After extensive online research and multiple diagnostics, repair technicians indicating safety camera failure due to heat. Technician indicating significant increase specific to this vehicle of late. Excessive environmental temperature “frying” ADAS camera. This causes failure to HondaSense safety features such as collision mitigation, lane keeping, and road departure mitigation - features touted as industry leading by Honda. Matter has been diagnosed and duplicated by service technicians. Extensive online research indicates potential widespread issue that requires highly expensive replacement/repair and calibration.

  3. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 28, 2026

Warning lamps for lkas, acc, auto lights and brake system started to appear. Honda diagnostics have pointed to an electrical failure with the multipurpose camera. The Honda representative admitted that this is a very common failure. I was told the car is “safe to drive” but there are constant brake system warning lights flashing on my dash. The net result is that I have no ability to know whether there is an actual brake system failure if one were to occur.

  4. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 10, 2026

My 2021 Honda Pilot displayed a U3000 diagnostic trouble code, indicating an internal electronic failure of the front-facing multipurpose camera that operates the vehicle's Honda Sensing safety systems (Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, and Adaptive Cruise Control). As a result, these safety systems became inoperative. I took the vehicle to an authorized Honda dealer, who confirmed the U3000 code and quoted approximately $2,000 to replace the camera unit. I have since learned this is a widely reported failure across multiple Honda and Acura models (Pilot, Odyssey, CR-V, Accord, Civic, HR-V, Clarity, RDX, MDX) and is the subject of a proposed class action lawsuit alleging Honda knew of the defect and failed to disclose it or issue a recall. I am filing this report to document the failure and its safety impact.

  5. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 8, 2026

The vehicle’s driver‑assist and collision‑avoidance systems began failing simultaneously. Multiple warnings appear on the dashboard every time the vehicle is started, and the cruise control system has stopped functioning entirely. Adaptive Cruise Control cannot be disabled, preventing the use of standard cruise control. Collision Mitigation System Problem Adaptive Cruise Control Problem (ACC) Lane Keeping Assist Problem (LKAS) Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Auto High-Beam Problem The failure of one component impacts multiple vehicle features, the ability to maintain safe following distance, avoid collisions, stay within lane boundaries, and properly manage headlights. The loss of cruise control functionality also affects long‑distance driving safety and consistency. These systems are designed to prevent accidents; their simultaneous failure represents a significant safety hazard. Dealer inspection indicates repairs costing thousands of dollars, often involving replacement of sensors, radar units, or wiring harnesses. No recall or service bulletin has been provided to address this widespread issue. Many Honda owners have reported identical failures on online forums and owner groups. The pattern suggests a systemic defect affecting Honda’s driver‑assist safety systems across multiple models and years. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue as a potential safety defect affecting Honda vehicles. The failure of multiple collision‑avoidance and lane‑keeping systems at once poses a serious risk to drivers, passengers, and others on the road.

  6. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Aug 3, 2026

My Honda has recently began displaying ADAS Failure where none of the features work including cruise control. I took to a mechanic and they displayed code U3000. This seems to be a common issue that Honda is not addressing. The fee to repair is over $1500 and the car is less than 5 years old. This is a safety issue.

  7. Vehicle speed control, Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 28, 2026

I am having these problems with my 2021 Honda Pilot Touring causing intermittent sudden braking. The dealership is quoting me a lot of money to fix them. Collision Mitigation System problem Road Departure Mitigation System Problem Auto High Beam Problem Lane Keep Assist Problem Adaptive Cruise Control Problem These problems should not be occurring to a an expensive vehicle worth over $45,000 for no reason. The dealership mentioned that they are caused by a failed battery fan.

  8. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 8, 2026

About a month ago, I started my Pilot and the dash lit up. The adaptive cruise control, emergency braking, lane keeping assist, Lane departure, forward collision warnings all flashed on the dash- no previous warnings. Subsequently, the cruise control will not work at all. I had the system scanned by a Honda certified mechanic and it showed and internal cameral failure. This is a known issue across many Hondas and is a very costly repair at close to $2000.

  9. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 1, 2026

I purchased my Honda Pilot 2021 5 years ago. Currently still making payments on it. The Collison Mitigation system warning sign came up on my dashboard about 1 year ago. After that warning sign came on 4 others popped up. Road Departure Mitigation system, Auto high-Beam problem, Adaptive cruise control problem, and lane keeping assist problem. Having all these warning signs come pop up on dashboard is very distracting while driving. Non of these controls are working and I have taken it to Honda to do an inspection. Since, its out of warranty I have to pay out of pocket $2,137.63 to get multipurpose camera unit replaced. Let alone this vehicle is still not paid off. I've also had issues with the starter shutting off while driving. It had a recall and I did get it replaced but I'm still having issues. This is a serious safety problem due to it shutting off while on the street. I been in life threating situations due to this problem. Honda needs to make sure there vehicles are safe for customers. There is a problem with the camera that is disabled my brake system features. I am hearing this is a known issue with many of these cars

  11. Electrical system, Lane departure, Mar 11, 2026

The following warning lights: adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation system, road departure mitigation problem, auto high beam problem

  12. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Mar 9, 2026

The following warning lights: adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist, collision mitigation system, road departure mitigation problem, auto high beam problem. Honda estimates over $2000 to repair? From what I understand there are many other Honda's with these issues! With these items not functioning, it defeats many of the safety features we bought the car for. Exact date of when it began was last summer.

  13. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Feb 25, 2026

The windshield camera has malfunctioned causing 5 different safety warnings to appear and these functions are unavailable now. It has been evaluated by a dealership and they claim that it has to be replaced at a cost of $2100. This is a pretty widespread issue in these Pilots with varying mileage. I would expect much better from a Honda product.

  14. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Feb 21, 2026

Vehicle Information: 2021 Honda Pilot Elite Component: Forward Collision Avoidance: Camera System Lane Departure: Lane Keeping Assist Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) Failure Description: The windshield-mounted forward-facing camera (Lane Keeping Assist System / Honda Sensing camera) failed without warning on my 2021 Honda Pilot Elite. This camera is mounted behind the windshield and controls multiple advanced safety systems, including Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, and Collision Mitigation Braking. There were no warning lamps, dashboard messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure. The malfunction appeared randomly approximately one month ago. The issue was diagnosed and confirmed by an authorized Honda dealer service department. I was informed that the windshield-mounted camera system requires replacement and was quoted approximately $1,800 for the repair. Because this repair is extremely expensive and currently unaffordable, I have lost multiple critical safety features. The vehicle no longer has functioning Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, or related Honda Sensing technologies. The sudden and complete loss of these safety systems significantly reduces vehicle safety and increases the risk of unintended lane departure or reduced collision avoidance capability for myself, my passengers, and others on the road. I believe a critical safety system should not fail without warning and should not be this costly to repair, especially when its failure disables multiple core safety features. This is a known issue across multiple threads and owners and Honda should take ownership and recall this issue. The vehicle and failed component are available for inspection upon request.

  15. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Dec 22, 2025

Problems started showing on car a week ago. Tested battery and it was not holding a charge. Replaced battery and problem still persisted. Car is now at dealership and they are quoting close to $2000 due to failure for internal windshield camera. Car has right over 78k miles. This is a safety issue.

  16. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Nov 19, 2025

On multiple occasions the hazard mitigation system has picked up on hazards that aren't there causing rapid braking AND steering over correction. Currently the button on my vehicle that has an image representing the ability to turn the system off doesn't appear to be connected or working. I have always left the system on as it felt "safer" when I bought the vehicle new. I haven't even tried to turn it off until recently when the system seemed to start malfunctioning. Today (11/19/2025) while traveling the interstate for a routine doctor appointment the adaptive cruise control randomly shut off as I was driving multiple times. If I changed lanes and a vehicle was in front of me the adaptive cruise control would just shut off with no warning or alert rather than adjust the speed as the system is designed to do. Once I exited from the interstate at a traffic light (green, turning left) the lane assist overcorrected, the steering wheel got stiff and it was jerked into the other lane almost causing a collision. This is very concerning as I was very fortunate not to have been involved in a collision today thankfully the other driver was paying attention and evaded. Each incident there has been ZERO warning. There have been a couple times recently where the system randomly fails and says there is a problem, but within minutes come right back on and operates properly until it randomly malfunctions again. This has occurred very sporadically over the past 6 months with incidents rapidly increasing over the past 3 days to the point I am very nervous to carry my children in this vehicle any longer. This vehicle was purchased as the primary vehicle for our family and our purchase was strongly influenced by Honda's "safety", but now that's very much in question as I understand many other Honda owners are experiencing the same Honda system issues. We are in the process now of having it scheduled with Honda, but this should not be acceptable from any manufacturer.

  17. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Nov 16, 2025

Vehicle is setting multiple faults for ADAS system. LKAS, ACC, collision mitigation system, auto high beam lights inoperable. Forward facing camera in the top of the windshield has failed.

  18. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Nov 12, 2025

Upon startup, LKAS, ACC, FCW and brake lights are illuminated and the corresponding systems are non-functional. This failed with less than 50k miles and the car was ~3 years old. This is making the car less safe to drive because some of the safety systems are non functional. The basic cruise control also does not work.

  19. Electrical system, Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Oct 7, 2025

The front camera which controls all of the safety features went out! 1 week ago. It has been confirmed and I am now having to pay almost $2700.00 to have it fixed. I am really upset to see how many issues this year of the car has. And the fact that Honda has known about it since 2019 and did nothing to fix them. There are 318 complaints on this car and I’m guessing over half of them have to do with the front camera. It is showing 5 safety codes.

  20. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Sep 1, 2025

Dash warning lights come on for Lane keeping assist, collision mitigation, ACC, brake system, auto high beam.

  21. Lane departure, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 26, 2025

The 2021 Honda Pilot would randomly flash brake, which would lock up the steering wheel, electronic warnings going off when nothing was there, and then all of the CMBS warnings came on. Dealer charged for diagnosis, and requires $2,300.00 to fix the sensor. The vehicle was never in an accident, and various ghost electronic issues would be present over the last few years before the system failed with multiple warnings.

  22. Air bags, Lane departure, Back over prevention, Jul 31, 2025, crash

The car's steering wheel got locked out and air bags came out suddenly while car is still moving on the road and driver blocked and not able to do anything and hit the parked car on the street due to car's system malfunction. Since incident happened in the housing community area with speed 20-25 miles and not majorly hit anyone but reported to and inspected by city police inspected. This was the first time this situation happed and however, had other incidents with the car auto feature malfunction, when stop on the red signal and suddenly the card shutdown with lot of beeps. This mentioned to the service center where normally go for servicing activities like oil change etc.

  23. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, Jul 11, 2025

I have photos, but unable to up load at this time. Suddenly, 9 different consecutive warning messages with bell associated with each, appeared on the instrument panel. The barrage of these 9 messages continued until I shut the engine off. I was in a very congested parking lot when this began. The Pilot was subsequently checked for codes and battery condition. The evidence suggests the VSA Modulator. The Messages continue when powered up with or without the engine running. Lane keep assist problem. LKAS All wheel drive system problem. VSA problem. ACC Adaptive cruise control problem problem. Road departure mitigation system problem. Collision mitigation system problem. Collision mitigation system problem. TSA trailer stability assist problem. Hill start assist problem. Power steering system (EPS) problem. Plus: AWD, Brake System and steering caution lights remain on continuously. I am very glad we were not towing our travel trailer this week.

  24. Forward collision avoidance, Lane departure, May 12, 2025

The collision mitigation braking system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, lane keeping assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem and auto high-beam problem. All these are keep showing on my dashboard.

  25. Lane departure, Mar 31, 2025

It is a horrible system that makes driving with it on more unsafe. It never knows where the lanes actually are and makes adjustments that take you out of the lane all the time. It's unusable and unsafe
