Recalls and investigations

  1. Structure, frame and membersJun 4, 2026

American Honda Motor Company (Honda) is recalling certain 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX vehicles that were sold in Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, or Wisconsin. The rear subframe may corrode at the suspension mounting points, which can result in rear suspension component failure.

Failure of rear suspension components, such as the rear control arm, can cause a loss of vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will inspect the rear subframe and install a rear subframe reinforcement kit and, as necessary, repair or replace the rear subframe components, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed July 27, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available, anticipated in the fall of 2026. Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are AOU and AOT. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning June 10, 2026.

  4. Service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components, master cylinderJun 29, 2023

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2020-2021 Civic, 2020-2023 Ridgeline, 2021-2023 Passport, 2021-2022 Pilot, and 2020 Acura MDX vehicles. The tie rod fastener that connects the brake booster and the brake master cylinder may have been improperly assembled during manufacturing, which can cause the brake master cylinder to separate from the booster assembly.

Brake master cylinder separation can cause a loss of brake function and increase the risk of a crash.

Dealers will inspect and repair the brake booster assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 7, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are VEU, AEV, and ZET.

  5. Back over prevention, display functionJun 15, 2023

Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2018-2023 Odyssey, 2019-2022 Pilot, and 2019-2023 Passport vehicles. Due to a faulty Media Oriented Systems Transport (MOST) communication coaxial cable connector, the rearview camera image may not appear on the display. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility."

A rearview camera that does not display an image can reduce the driver's rear view, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Dealers will replace the MOST cable harness and install a straightening cover over the vehicle cable connector, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 24, 2023. Owners may contact Honda customer service at 1-888-234-2138. Honda's numbers for this recall are EEL, ZEM, and SFC.

  1. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Forward collision avoidance, Sep 27, 2026

Unknown. I took it to a local shop and they did read the codes but were unable to find camera or fix anything. I have 5 warnings that all came on one after one. Can not be cleared. We reset battery and a few simple fixes that didn’t work. Following warnings: Auto high beam problem, lane keeping assist problem, road departure mitigation system problem, adaptive cruise control problem, and collision mitigation system problem. I was driving on a smooth road with no issues and nothing happened, they just started going off one at a time. We have an appointment with Honda dealer on Tuesday September 29th 2026 to drop off to get checked out. I took it to my local shop on 9/24/26 with in an hour of it happening. Picked my car up from That shop on 9/25/26 they checked it out and said it was safe to drive but not something they could fix for me. I called Honda 9/25/26 that morning after picking up my car and they gave me the appointment.

  2. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Sep 19, 2026

I was driving and the Idle Start Stop was ON and when stopped, the Idle stop system turn OFF my vehicule it went to NEUTRAL when I took my foot out of the pedal the car didn’t want to turn ON again and I was in the middle of the ROAD and almost someone hit me. This issue has happened before multiple time.

  3. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Sep 1, 2026

My pilot is suffering from the known safety defect where the engine stalls and force shifts into neutral during Auto Idle Stop. The dealership advisor handed me Service bulletin 23-010 admitting my vehicle matches the exact failure criteria. However, they are refusing to cover the failed starter motor under the warranty extension, even though Honda’s own technical documents state that the starter failure is a direct consequence of the low cranking torque and the tight engine valves. I need a corporate case manager to open an urgent case and issue a goodwill authorization to cover the starter the 23-010 valve adjustment. We have purchased 8 Hondas in the last 15 years, service has been a main reason for our return but after the experience today I’m not sure we can continue. The problem is a hazard.

The sunroof opens when double clicking the 'unlock' button on the keyfob. this allows rain to get into the vehicle damaging the car.

My car No Restart After Auto Start/Stop Engages I stopped at a stop sign between [XXX], and my vehicle wouldn't start again; the lights started flickering. I had to get my family out of the vehicle, and then I tried to start it using the ignition button; it finally started after several attempts. This week I was leaving an event to go home and was driving on a fairly busy local Road came to the stoplight. The light was red, came to a complete stop and waited for the light to turn green. When the light turned green I pressed my gas pedal and my vehicle stalled on me. It completely turned off. I had to reset my vehicle two times in order to get it started again so that I could make it to my next destination and by resetting it I had to power the vehicle off. I have a push to start vehicle so I have to power the vehicle off and then open my door, close my door then try to start my vehicle again with a push to start. That did not work so I had to do it again the same process and then my vehicle started. I had to then turn on the the button press the button to turn auto idle off. That is how my vehicle was able to drive and not stall on me again. I forgot to turn off that button on my initial trip and that's when my vehicle stalled.

  7. Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Lane departure, Jun 25, 2026

I was driving home at 4am on I-95 with my children in the car. My car has had a history of "juttering" and making a vibrational noise, but on the way home there was an issue with acceleration when using the gas pedal, and slow to gain speed. There were times when the gas pedal didn't respond to my foot depression at all, and did not accelerate. When I was almost home, many lights came on my dash including: Blind Spot warning, emissions systems problem, transmission problem apply parking brake when parked, stop driving when safe transmission problem see manual. The car is not driveable at this time and sitting in my driveway. I have no idea where to tow it to or what to do or how much it will cost

  8. Other or unspecified, Jun 2, 2026

Driving on freeway, at speed limit. All was clear. The sunroof spontaneously exploded. Nothing struck it, it just exploded on its own.

  9. Other or unspecified, Service brakes, Forward collision avoidance, May 11, 2026

“The vehicle experiences phantom braking while driving, where the Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS) activates without warning even when there are no vehicles or objects in front of me. The vehicle suddenly brakes on its own, creating a major safety hazard and risk of rear-end collisions. The issue has happened multiple times during normal driving at different speeds. Warning lights related to the collision mitigation system and passenger airbag system have appeared intermittently. The blind spot monitoring system has also failed to properly detect nearby vehicles at times. The vehicle was previously taken to the dealership/service department and remained there for an extended period for inspection and attempted repairs, but the problem was not fully corrected. After getting the vehicle back, the same symptoms and braking issues continued. This issue puts myself, my passengers, and other drivers at risk because the vehicle may suddenly brake unexpectedly in traffic.

  10. Other or unspecified, May 11, 2026

Our sunroof on our Honda 2022 Pilot spontaneously shattered while we were sitting at a stop light. Nothing fell on it and nothing hit, it just suddenly shattered while we were sitting in the stop light.

  11. Other or unspecified, Feb 11, 2026

Idle engine restart failed. The vehicle went in idle mode at stop light, whe I got green and moved feet off brake to acceleration the engine failed to restart. It happened on 2/3/2026. I turned on hazard light to alert other drivers I was in trouble. I kept getting message on dashboard to put car in park, press the brake and push engine start. It did not work for a while I stepped out of vehicle unlocked stepped back in then I could start the engine. The second occurrence was 2/7/2026. This was a major intersection. Same thing happened, situation lasted longer, traffic built up behind me I had to call 911, I step out the vehicle to open the hood in addition to having hazard light on for my safety. I tow truck came along. When he open vehicle and got in, the engine started. I was at dealership today 2/11/2026 they indicated no fault was found. While waiting for my appointment today I have been turning off the automatic idle feature every time I get in the car.

  12. Other or unspecified, Jan 9, 2026

While driving on I-26 at 60 MPH at approximately 2PM on 01/08/2026 the sunroof exploded. It was not struck by anything, no other vehicle was within a half mile of us at the time. Fortunately the cover was closed because we do not use the sunroof. It has only been opened one time a the delership the day the car was delivered new. This sunroof explosion was loud and frankly scared the heck out of us. Had the cover not been kept closed we would have been showered by broken glass. This could have easley resulted in a driver panic and a crash. I feel this is a manufacturing defect and based on numbers of events through various Honda models and years should covered by Honda recall/warranty coverage.

  13. Other or unspecified, Visibility/wiper, Nov 9, 2025

Every since I purchased my 2022 Honda Pilot, I have had soo many issues with the windshield chipping. I bought the car brand new. Within the first 6 months, I had a chip at the top right corner (passenger side) the ended up cracking all the way to the edge. I had to replace the windshield. Fast forward to within a year of the new windshield being in place, and I know have FOUR chips. All on the passenger side. Two near the bottom and two near the top right. I have asked Honda several times if there are issues with the windshields, and they claim there is not. I have asked about having my frame checked to make sure it wasn't a manufacturing issue, but have not, since they need the windshield off to look. I have been driving for over 20 years. I have NEVER had a chip in my windshield. I even had a 2018 Pilot - 0 issues.

  14. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Nov 6, 2025

Car alarm going off randomly when locked. When car is near fob and turned off the head unit will randomly turn on and off rapidly, appears to be a smart power module failure. This has been going on intermittently since 50k miles. Most recently today, I had to disconnect the battery to make it stop.

  15. Other or unspecified, Sep 19, 2025

The auto stop - start when idle shuts off the vehicle and then does not auto start when lifting off the brake. This has happened 3 times on the road and is incredibly dangerous as you are left immobile until you are able to wait and restart the engine manually

  16. Other or unspecified, Forward collision avoidance, Aug 10, 2025

The foreward collision warning is too sensitive and the alert message and steering wheel shaking are distracting. Especially driving on a two lane road, the forward collision messages occurs under normal driving situations. Simply a vehicle approaching in their lane in the opposite direction triggers the warning. You get a large orange box popping up on the dash screen which diverts your attention from the road to the screen. It's an obnoxious panic message. Also, the steering wheel shakes to alert you, which startles you. I fear the mechanism could malfunction and take over steering and cause an accident. I know how to drive and I don't need the absurd "assistance". I submitted another report for the auto idle problem. These driver assist things are horrid. They don't enhance the driving experience and seem to be items that unnecessarily tack on to the cost of purchasing a vehicle. We have complained to the Honda dealer and car mechanics about these matters. Regarding Forward Collision Warning, no resolution was provided. This is an ongoing problem and so an approximate date below is not applicable. Thank you Thank you.

  17. Other or unspecified, Aug 10, 2025

Problem with Auto idle stop mechanism. There was an event of no restart after the auto start/stop engaged. There have been several issues with it over time. For a while it cut out completely until we got a new car battery. Especially in the past 3 weeks the car has hesitated to start after a stop. Then, yesterday, [XXX] it failed to start creating a traffic hazard. We were at a red light and once green, I removed my foot from the brake and it would not start. Traffic was approaching behind us and it was a dangerous situation. It was stressful for me, the driver as well. After putting the car into several gears and pressing the start button twice, it eventually started. A display messages appeared only when the car would not start. I believe it said to put the car into neutral. If the car failed to start, it would have been stuck at a major intersection posing danger to ourselves and fellow drivers. Previously, when the feature stopped working, we reported the issue to our local Honda dealer and they did not offer a solution but said there are a number of factors that could cause it to not operate. We didn't mind it wasn't working because we loathe it. Later we purchased a new battery and it started working again. Also previous to [XXX], we updated the software system. We were aware that there was an update for this issue. To ensure we have the update, I checked it again, today, 8-10-2025 and our software was up to date. We (my wife and I) were so alarmed by yesterday's operation failure that we are considering getting rid of the vehicle. However, we don't want to pass the problem onto someone else. We are petitioning that this become a bulletin or recall fully covered by Honda. We see that similar 2016 to 2021 vehicles are under a bulletin. Honda is aware of the issue since 2016. 2022 Honda Pilot should be included. The software update did not resolve the issue. Please escalate from investigation phase to a mandatory Honda fix. TY! 18. Other or unspecified, Jul 15, 2025

As I understand it from a law firm, other Honda Pilot owners have filed complaints with the NHTSA the following which is an EXACT description of what is occurring on our Pilot. Ref: 25V-031. Our problem is that there is about a “2-5 second hesitation” or “delay in acceleration” where the engine seems to “bog down for a few seconds before it ‘kicks in’ and then there is a ‘surge of power.’” This surge of power causes a rapid acceleration where the vehicle “jumps forward at a rapid rate.” I took this to Honda two years ago after we first purchased it and they said that "All vehicles are made this way now." This has proven "very dangerous" when trying to do a 3-point turn or a u-turn in traffic. I'd be happy to demonstrate this with someone if they want to ride along so they can see for themselves. I checked your site but it says there aren't any recalls for my vehicle. Problem is, Honda told me the same thing two years ago so if it isn't on your site, appears that it isn't a problem for them. Please help look into this before someone in my family or someone else's gets hurt.

So this started as a loss of power when traveling down the highway, i would push down on the accelerator to pass and loss of power for at least 2 to 5 seconds. Now it is happening more frequent with normal driving. I believe this to be a safety problem.

Continental Cross Contact Sport LX 245/50 R20 102H tire was faulty. It blew out while I was driving my 2022 Honda Pilot at Hwy speed approx 60 mph. Nothing in the road and other cars in front of me had no unusual avoidance of debris or pot hole. The right rear tire simply loudly popped and deflated quickly. Very dangerous, lucky it was a rear tire. All 4 tires had less than 1500 miles, basically new to me. Honda installed a new rear tire at no charge. I'm now worried about the other 3 tires as this was a previous problem with Continental tires in 2020.
