Recalls and investigations

  1. EngineDec 28, 2018

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2013-2014 Santa Fe Sport vehicles previously repaired under recall numbers 15V-568 and 17V-226. The high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet may have been damaged, misaligned, or improperly torqued during the engine replacement procedure, allowing fuel to leak from the pipe.

A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the fuel pipe, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began March 1, 2019. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's recall number for this recall is 180.

  2. Seat belts, pretensionerFeb 27, 2018

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. On February 27, 2018, Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) notified NHTSA that they were recalling 154,753 model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. On April 18, 2018, Hyundai expanded the recall to include an additional 425,305 model year 2012-2013 Sonata and 2011-2012 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the event of a crash, the air bag control unit (ACU) may short circuit, preventing the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags from deploying.

If the frontal air bags, seat belt pretensioners, and side air bags are disabled, there is an increased risk of injury to the vehicle occupants in the event of a vehicle crash that necessitates deployment of these safety systems.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will install an external wire filter kit, free of charge. The recall began October 15, 2018. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 174.

  3. Seat belts, pretensionerOct 4, 2017

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles previously repaired under recall campaign 17V-152. The seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.

If the seat belt linkage detaches from the seat belt anchorage, it can not properly restrain the occupant in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will again verify the connection between the seat belt linkage and the pretensioner and additionally install a warning label to prevent future seat belt linkage detachment, free of charge. The recall began November 6, 2017. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 169.

  4. Seat belts, front, anchorageMar 8, 2017

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Sonata and 2011-2015 Sonata Hybrid vehicles. In the affected vehicles, the seat belt linkages for both front seat belts may detach from the seat belt anchor pretensioners.

In the event of a crash, if the seat belts detach from the anchor pretensioners, it can increase the risk of injury.

Hyundai will notify owners and dealers will inspect the connection between the seat belt linkages and the seat belt anchor pretensioners, repairing them as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin April 7, 2017. Owner's may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for the recall is 160.

  5. Steering, electric power assist systemApr 5, 2016

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to October 31, 2010. In the affected vehicles, the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) circuit board may be damaged and result in a loss of power steering assist.

With a loss of power steering assist, extra steering effort will be required, especially at lower speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the EPS control unit, free of charge. The recall began May 30, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9640. Hyundai's number for this recall is 143.

  6. Exterior lighting, brake lights, switchNov 16, 2015

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles. The brake pedal stopper pad can deteriorate allowing the brake light switch plunger to remain extended when the brake pedal is released.

If the brake light switch plunger does not retract as it should when the brake pedal is not being pressed, the brake lights may stay illuminated preventing accurate communication to rearward following vehicles that the vehicle is slowing or stopping. Additionally, if the brake switch plunger is not retracted, then the transmission can be shifted out of PARK without depressing the brake pedal. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake pedal stopper pad with an improved part, free of charge. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 136.

  7. Suspension, front, springs, coil springsOct 7, 2015

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Elantra vehicles manufactured November 12, 2010, to March 31, 2011, and Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to February 28, 2010, originally sold in, or currently registered in, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia, Wisconsin and the District of Columbia. Road salt may corrode the front coil springs, possibly resulting in the coil springs fracturing.

If a front coil spring fractures, it may contact the tire, possibly puncturing it, increasing the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front coil springs, free of charge. Interim notifications were mailed on November 17, 2015. The recall began on January 6, 2016. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059. Hyundai's number for this recall is 133. Note: Vehicles that were previously registered in salt belt states but are currently registered elsewhere are eligible to be inspected and repaired.

  8. EngineSep 10, 2015

Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2012 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, to April 12, 2012 at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama and equipped with either a 2.0 liter or 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engine. In the affected vehicles, metallic debris may not have been fully removed during manufacturing of the engine crankshaft. If the debris was not completely removed, oil flow may be restricted through the connecting rod bearings, causing connecting rod damage. A worn connecting rod bearing will produce a metallic, cyclic knocking noise from the engine and possible engine failure.

Engine failure would result in a vehicle stall, increasing the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and replace the engine assembly, as necessary, free of charge. Additionally, Hyundai Motor America will increase the warranty for the engine sub-assembly (short block) to 10 years/120,000 miles for both original and subsequent owners of 2011 and 2012 Sonatas manufactured at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama equipped with 2.0 liter and 2.4 liter Gasoline Direct injection engines. Interim notifications were mailed to owners starting on October 8, 2015. A second notification will be mailed when parts are available. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-671-3059 or by visiting www.HyundaiUSA.com/Campaign132. Hyundai's number for this recall is 132.

  9. Power train, automatic transmissionJul 18, 2014

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Sonata vehicles manufactured December 11, 2009, through May 29, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the transmission shift cable may detach from from the shift lever pin.

If the transmission shift cable detaches, the transmission gear selection may not match the indicated gear and the vehicle may move in an unintended or unexpected direction, increasing the risk of a crash. Furthermore, when the driver parks the vehicle, despite selecting the 'PARK' position, the transmission may not be in 'PARK.' If the vehicle is not in the 'PARK' position and the parking brake is not applied, there is a risk the vehicle will roll away as the driver and other occupants exit the vehicle or anytime thereafter. A vehicle rollaway increases the risk of injury to exiting occupants and bystanders.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and, as necessary, repair the connection between the shift cable and shift lever, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 123.

  10. Service brakes, hydraulicJul 18, 2014

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2011 Sonata vehicles manufactured from December 11, 2009, through September 1, 2010. The affected vehicles may experience a brake fluid leak from the two brake lines that connect the brake system's master cylinder to the Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit (HECU) due to insufficient seal between the inner brake hose and metal brake line fitting.

If the brake lines leak brake sufficient fluid, the brake warning lamp in the instrument cluster will illuminate and longer stopping distance will be required, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake hoses with a revised service part, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's number for this recall is 122.

  11. Exterior lighting, brake lights, switchApr 1, 2013

Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.

Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.

Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.

  1. Electrical system, Exterior lighting, Jun 21, 2022

I have replaced my front driver door actuator, the back driver and front passenger side 3x and it’s still having issues. I replaced all fuses an wiring harness. Front headlights keep blowing out after about a week of putting in new ones.

  2. Engine, Jun 20, 2022

Going down the highway at 70mph the engine just shut down. I couldn’t drive over 35 mph hr.

  3. Engine and engine cooling, Jun 16, 2022

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power and stalled. The contact stated there was a piston failure in the engine allowing oil to leak onto the ground. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V226000 (Engine and Engine Cooling). The approximate failure mileage was 150,000. The VIN was invalid.

  4. Engine, Jun 16, 2022

My engine seized up on me while driving in heavy traffic. I just purchased this vehicle in April 2022, and other than me having to replace a headlight, the car drives smooth and has never stalled or given any check engine, or oil lights, or any type of indication that there was something wrong with my vehicle. I just drove it and out of the blue my dashboard lights go off and my engine locks up while I'm driving. I wasn't able to get the car back started. I had it towed to a shop and they weren't able to get the engine to turn either. I am now resorting to a Hyundai dealership to inspect.

  5. Wheels, Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Jun 8, 2022, fire

After doing some research, I am now aware that there was a recall 20V-746 or 21V-727 that my car was affected by & was never notified about. On 6/2/2022, I was driving and just exited the freeway. Smoke started coming out of the passengers side of the engine. Cars were honking at me & flames started coming out as I drove into a parking lot. I was terrified as my life was at risk & felt fortunate that this did not happen on the freeway. I feel lucky to have been able to escape this life threatening experience. There is now an open claim with my insurance. I had brake lights changed at Frank Hyundai on 4/08/2022 in National City, CA where they also ran a diagnostic check on the car. There was never mention of a recall & my car was cleared of any issues. In addition to the photos I have attached, I also have videos that I am not able to upload.

  6. Engine, Jun 6, 2022

The car began exhibiting a knocking noise on 5/21/2022 when increasing speed up to around 60 mph. Vehicle did the same thing again on 5/24/2022 and was shaking for a few minutes around the 50-60 mph mark. I took it to my local mechanic who drove it 6 blocks and then towed it back to his shop because he "didn't want to be the one to blow the motor out." At that point there was a consistent knocking noise in the engine even when in park. I did some research and discovered the "engine rod bearing failure" recall associated with similar model and year Hyundai Sonatas. So I had my car towed on 6/2/2022 to the nearest Hyundai dealership from Alpena, Michigan to Traverse City, Michigan, where they ran the engine rod diagnostic test and my vehicle failed the test. So the service rep at the dealership informed me on 6/3/2022 that my car failed the test and would be receiving a full engine replacement and knock sensors with the 10-year warranty.

  7. Engine, Jun 1, 2022

Upon accelerating to enter traffic the engine stalled. Subsequent attempts to restart the vehicle have been unsuccessful. The engine will not turn at all. A mechanic determined the engine was locked. Prior to this the check engine light had been on and the defective part had been replaced based on diagnostic code P0449.

  8. Suspension, May 27, 2022

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, he heard a ticking sound and then heard something detach from the vehicle. The contact pulled over and checked underneath the driver’s side front of the vehicle and became aware that the coil spring had detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

  9. Engine, May 23, 2022

The engine failed going down the highway and wouldn’t go over 30min. The engine needs to be replaced agin. But the dealership won’t because there are no open recalls. They should replace with a working engine.

  10. Electrical system, Air bags, Engine, May 20, 2022, crash, fire

The contact owned a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at 50 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the rear end of the vehicle. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle skidded and stopped. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to her residence and parked the vehicle. The contact then sought medical assistance and was informed that she had sustained a left shoulder rotator cuff tear. A police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bags failed to engage and did not need to be reset. The vehicle was then taken to an auto collision mechanic where it was repaired. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The contact was thrown to the right and to the driver's side door. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact was transported to the hospital by emergency units. The contact was informed by her orthopedist that her left shoulder rotator cuff tear was reinjured. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer Bob Johnson Kia (3817 W Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623), where it was diagnosed that the air bags failed to engage and did not need to be reset. The vehicle was then taken to an auto collision mechanic where it was repaired. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, she smelled a burning odor. Upon parking the vehicle at her residence, the contact saw smoke coming in through the instrument panel and AC vents. The contact stated that all four doors were then locked. The contact then released the key from the ignition and unlock the doors using the key fob. The contact saw a flame coming through the AC vent just before she exited the vehicle. After exiting the vehicle, the contact saw that the front seats were on fire and there was fire underneath the hood of the vehicle. The fire department arrived at the scene but was unable to unlock the doors of the vehicle. The fire department then broke the windshield and the driver's side door window and they extinguished the fire. A fire department report was filed. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a third dealer Vision Hyundai Henrietta Rochester (2525 W Henrietta Rd, Rochester, NY 14623), then it was towed to a tow lot where it was totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.

  11. Engine, May 19, 2022

WHEN DRIVING, I WOULD GET AN UNUSUAL LOUD ALARM SOUND, THEN THE CAR START TO CUT OFF, COULDN'T STOP THE CAR USING THE BRAKES, HAD TO WAIT UNTIL IT SLOWS DOWN, USUALLY WHEN I'M IN TRAFFIC, WHICH IS DANGEROUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES OFF/ON, I WOULD GET WARNING SAYING CHECK BRAKE, WHEN ALL THIS IS HAPPENING, NO WARNING BEFORE THE ALARM SOUND OR WHEN THE CAR HAS CUTOFF. TOOK CAR TO HYUNDAI IN OLIVE BRANCH, MS ON 04/22/2022, THEREFORE IT HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, I WAS NOT OFFERED A LOANER CAR, I ASKED FOR A LOANER, SHE (LEXI) QUICKLY SAID "THEY DON'T OFFER LOANER CARS" SO I'M HAVING TO BORROW A VEHICLE TO GET TO WORK. I'VE CALLED, LEFT MESSAGES, NO ONE HAS RETURNED MY CALLS.

  12. Engine, May 16, 2022

WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED. WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND THE ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP COMPLETELY.

  13. Other or unspecified, May 15, 2022

The Sonata Hyundai Hybrid trunk will not open when the battery dies, and since the battery for the Hybrid is in the trunk, when the battery dies, the car has to be towed because, unfortunately, the key to the trunk has never worked. The last time my battery died, the dealer, after many hours, finally managed to get the trunk open but not without damaging the mechanism. Now there is no way for someone to get out of the trunk if they should get locked in. It's my understanding that a trunk latch malfunction has been a problem with Hyundai Sonata Hybrids for a long time. There is a recall on the newer models. Why not the 2011? The latch does not work. There were no warnings that the battery was low before the trunk became unaccessable.

  14. Exterior lighting, Service brakes, May 8, 2022

Brake lights have been needed to be replaced multiple times a year, since I purchased the car. Now this past year I have had to replace my break lights more often and noticed the port that holds the light appears to be burnt. So after I noticed the situation, I googled to see if there were any recalls and there have been, but my dealership advised me that my car had no recall for the break lights but had other recalls (which nothing was ever sent to me stating any recalls). Also be advised approximately every 5 hyundai sonata has a break light out. I am EXTREMELY upset that there has not been a recall for the break lights and also upset that the dealer charged $115.00 for two break light bulbs and “labor”) and why was I not aware of recalls on my vehicle until I went into the dealership with a problem.

  15. Suspension, Apr 28, 2022

The contact's daughter owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would bounce up and down without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer where she was informed that her vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a fractured front coil spring. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V629000 (Suspension). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided the contact with the same information as the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

  16. Engine, Apr 27, 2022, fire

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his son was driving at approximately 65 MPH, blackish smoke began to emit from the engine without warning. His son immediately pulled over as his girlfriend and their dogs exited the vehicle. The smoke quickly turned into flames as the vehicle became engulfed in a fire. The fire department arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed and no injuries were reported. The vehicle was initially towed to an independent tow yard where they deemed the vehicle a complete loss. The contact spoke to several attorneys and was advised to keep the vehicle in his possession if possible. The contact then had the vehicle towed to his home where it remained in his possession. The contact's son notified the manufacturer of the failure and received no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

  18. Engine, Fuel/propulsion system, Apr 20, 2022

Hyundai recalled my vehicle twice for GDI ENGINE INSPECTION/REPLACEMENT (Recall 132). Subsequently, my vehicle was recalled a 3rd time for HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PIPE INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT (Recall 180). During this recall, the dealership inspected and DID NOT replace or repair any equipment. 4/12/2022 I smelled gasoline and took my vehicle to an Auto Shop for inspection. The technician explained that the HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM was leaking fuel significantly and was an extreme safety hazard. I contacted Hyundai Manufacturer right away due to my knowledge of Recall 180. Hyundai set me up with a Dealership Service appointment and I had the vehicle towed to the dealership for safety. The Dealership refuses to honor the recall (Recall 180) and after several phone calls, emails, and tweets; I am still unable to get reconciliation from Hyundai Consumer Affairs. For context, please understand that this Dealership is the same Dealership that FAILED to repair or replace anything when I took my vehicle in for recall (Recall 180). Please help!

  19. Engine and engine cooling, Apr 19, 2022

We have refill engine oil weekly. After every oil change a month the oil is dark and a needs a quart more to refill. This is regularly since 2015. We purchased the car in 2012. 2019 the front ball joints started clumping in reverse, replaced in 2021. While driving on the freeway and exiting off onto a ramp the car dramatically down shifted and was unable to correct itself. Later discovered the computer module needed replacement. We still are refilling oil weekly. Not to mention replacing the clock spring twice.

Driving down the road my car just shut down and wouldn't start it happened once before but I was able to jump it and it worked but this time after we replace the battery and got it running there was a knocking under the hood that sounds like a rod going out or the engine is toast. There's no knocking before the engine totally just shut down it was running perfectly fine and because it started and ran fine the last time the car just died when I was driving I thought it was the battery and low and behold I replaced the battery and it turns on perfectly fine but now the knocking in the engine. It also will not drive over so many miles per hour cuz if it goes up to those miles per hour then it shuts down or the knocking gets louder and it starts to die. Again no warning about this which is why I replace the battery cuz that's what happened last time and when it came back on this time after getting the battery replaced and put in lonely hold there's knocking in the engine and it won't drive. I've seen on YouTube a guy with the same problem find out there is something recalled on the engines for the 2011 Hyundai sonata. The manufacturer replaced his engine for the same exact thing my car is doing. I just inherited this vehicle from my dad who passed away but he had just put it in his name from my brothers who passed away from COVID so I have not had this car long at all. Literally just received title in the mail. This is my only vehicle and my husband is blind and we have two kids that we have to get to and from school and very limited income right now and this problem needs to be fixed by the manufacturer because I did nothing wrong

Had took it and called servals times to dealer complaining that something is wrong with the engine all they said is get a new car even thou was still making payments and told me warranty was not covered. After waiting a year later asked again and said warranty was covered due to the recall but when I took ot they denied my engine replaced saying I caused the head gasket to be replaced. Explaining the car showed no signs of over heating and just shut off once I got off the exit.

This vehicle's engine made a rattling noise and then suddenly stalled while I was driving it. I had it towed to the closest manufacturer dealership and the mechanic submitted a claim on my behalf to the manufacturer. It denied because the car has a salvage title. After reviewing your website it looks like the manufacturer can not solely deny a recall claim based on salvage title. This vehicle's engine has acted just like all the other recall's on this manufacturer, make & model.

My engine has failed due to a well known manufacturing defect. I never received the recall notice Service Campaign 953, as I am not the original owner. This Theta engine is part of a class action lawsuit and Hyundai is aware however they may try to not pay for a replacement engine according to the dealership. Please assist. Thank you so much.

My engine seized-up at approximately 125,000 miles. We were on the highway traveling about 75mph and heard an unusual sound from the engine compartment. We exited the highway on an exit ramp and at the stop, I hit the gas and lost most power - could only go about 15mph tops. Had to have it towed to my local Hyundai dealership and they determined that the engine was seized. My check engine light and low oil light were on when the problem presented. This was on 03/12/22. Thankfully this occurred when I and a buddy were traveling home from a basketball game, however, the primary driver of this car has been my 18 yo daughter - I'm SUPER glad it happened on my drive and not on hers.
