Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Power train, automatic transmissionJun 13, 2019
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with 3.2L engines. In the event that a clutch becomes stuck in the transmission, the transmission software may shift the transmission to neutral.
An unexpected shift to neutral would result in a loss of drive, increasing the risk of crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the transmission software, free of charge. The recall began August 8, 2019. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V69.

Electrical system, wiringMay 17, 2018
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

Equipment, electrical, radio/tape deck/cd etc.Jul 23, 2015
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500, 2015 Chrysler 200, Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger, and Dodge Challenger, 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Cherokee, and Dodge Durango, and 2013-2015 Dodge Viper vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with radios that have software vulnerabilities that can allow third-party access to certain networked vehicle control systems.
Exploitation of the software vulnerability may result in unauthorized remote modification and control of certain vehicle systems, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify and mail affected owners a USB drive that includes a software update that eliminates the vulnerability, free of charge. Optionally, owners may download the update to their own USB drive from http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/ or take their vehicle to a Chrysler dealer for immediate installation. In an effort to mitigate the effects of this security vulnerability, Chrysler has had the wireless service provider close the open cellular connection to the vehicle that provided unauthorized access to the vehicle network. This measure may not have been implemented on all vehicles and does not address access by other means that will be remedied by the software update. The recall began on August 25, 2015. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R40.

SERVICE AIRBAG SYSTEM POPS UP ALL THE TIME . SOMETIMES IT'S THE SHORT WIRE THAT GETS UNPLUGGED IF YOU MOVE YOUR SEAT OR JUST TURNS ON AND YOU HAVE TO REPLUG THAT CORD BACK . I'M NOT SURE IF THE AIRBAG WILL DEPLOY IF I GET IN AN ACCIDENT

WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AROUND 70MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ALONG WITH OTHER WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER ALONG WITH LOSING POWER STEERING. WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OFF FREEWAY. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME ON CITY STREET WITH TRANSMISSION ACTING LIKE STUCK IN ONE GEAR. THIS CAR NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. I'VE READ OF HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS VEHICLE AND IT'S A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS TO A FAMILY. JEEP KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THIS PARTICULAR NINE SPEED TRANSMISSION AND NEEDS TO BE FORCED INTO TAKING ACTION.

WHEN SLOWING DOWN NOT COMING TO A FULL STOP THEN ACCELERATING MY CAR DOES NOT WANT TO MOVE. THERE IS AN EXTREME HESITATION, AND THEN BOOM ~ THE CAR JERKS AND FINALLY GOES. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS NOW. I HAVE HAD ALL THE SOFTWARE UPDATES ~ IT IS NO BETTER.

ENGINE CODE P0520. MY REPAIR SHOP SAID THIS IS A VERY COMMON 2014 JEEP ISSUE. MY SENSOR SAYS THERE IS NO OIL PRESSURE, HOWEVER, MY CARS OIL PRESSURE IS FINE. CAR DRIVES FINE OTHER THAN THE ENGINE LIGHT ON.
Steering, May 23, 2018
I'M HAVING A FEW PROBLEMS WITH MY VEHICLE, I JUST BOUGHT IT USED WITH APPROXIMATELY 111,000 MILES. MY MAIN CONCERN IS MY STEERING WHEEL BECOMING VERY HARD TO TURN WHILE TRYING TO PARK OR EASE OUT OF PARKING. EVERY TIME I BACK OUT, IT DOESN'T LET ME TURN MY WHEEL WHICH WAS VERY DIFFICULT BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO HIT ANYONE/ANYTHING. ALSO, THIS MORNING ON 5/23/2018, ALL MY LIGHTS ON MY DASH BOARD CAME ON WHILE ON MY WAY TO WORK, AND MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME STUCK WHILE CARS WERE BEHIND ME. LUCKILY, IT WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. I HAD TO ROTATE THE STEERING WHEEL VERY HARD TO PULL OVER. I HOPE NO ONE ELSE GOES THROUGH THIS WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS VERY UNSAFE. HOPE TO FIND A RESOLUTION.

FOR BEING A JEEP AND BE ADVERTISED AS OFF-ROAD, I HAVE NEVER BEEN OFF-ROAD AND MY VEHICLE NEEDS ENGINE STUDS REPLACEMENTS. THE MOTOR HAS A LOT OF VIBRATION WHEN STOPS AND TRANSMISSION BOUNCE WHEN CHANGES GEARS. I BELIEVE IS A BAD PART BECAUSE I COULD NOTICE SINCE NEW BUT NOW IS VERY HARD.
Power train, May 23, 2018
TRANSMISSION IS PERFORMING STRANGELY. AT LOW SPEEDS IT STALLS AND CANNOT MOVE. WARNING LITES ILLUMINATE AND SAYS TO PLACE VEHICLE IN GEAR, VEHICLE MUST BE STOPPED, SHUT DOWN AND RE-STARTED. SEVERAL TIMES "SERVICE SHIFTER" LITE IS ILLUMINATED AND HAS BEEN TO DEALER, THEY CONTINUE TO RE-PROGRAM AND CHECK RE-CALLS. VEHICLE MAY BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. DEALER SAYS TCM IS NEEDING RE-PROGRAMMING. THIS STALLING AND TRANNY RE-PROGRAMMING HAS HAPPENED ON TWO OCCASIONS. SOMETIMES TRANNY LAGS ON ACCELERATION. VEHICLE USUALLY IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED OR DURING INTIAL TAKE OFF FROM DEAD STOP. SOMETIMES GEAR SELECTOR WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY WHEN WARNING LITES ILLUMINATE. IN 2018 IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO PLANT JEEP; FLAGSTAFF AZ, LAWLEY JEEP; SILVERCITY NM, AND HORNE; GLOBE AZ. RECALL S55 WIRE HARNESS NOT INSTALLED.

TRANSMISSION IS JERKING WHEN SHIFTING ESPECIALLY FROM A STOP TO GO. LATELY IT'S ALSO BEEN JERKING FORWARD WHEN COMING TO A STOP/BREAKING IT BASICALLY FEELS LIKE YOUR BEING PUSHED FORWARD. HAVE HAD TO THE DEALER A FEW TIMES TO BE TOLD NOTHING IS WRONG. HAVE HAD COMPUTER UPDATED. I HONESTLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE ANY LONGER. IT'S BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM BUT HAVE NOTICED MORE SO THAT LAST FEW DAYS.

IN 2017, BOTH HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2014 GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND WENT OUT. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HAD THE HEADLIGHTS BURN OUT ON A JEEP THAT AGE. THEY SAID IT WOULD BE OVER $700 TO REPLACE THE BULBS. I WAS NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THIS AT THE TIME. TWO DAYS LATER, MY JEEP STALLED IN TRAFFIC AND THE ALTERNATOR STARTED BURNING WHILE DRIVING TO WORK; MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE CLOSEST AUTO MECHANIC WHERE THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. I ALSO HAD THE HEADLAMP BULBS REPLACED. I WAS REIMBURSED BY CHRYSLER FOR THE COST OF THE ALTERNATOR FOLLOWING THE RECALL, HOWEVER, MY HEADLIGHTS HAVE ONCE AGAIN STOPPED WORKING. I WOULD APPRECIATE IF THIS CAN BE INVESTIGATED TO SEE IF THE HEADLAMP MALFUNCTION IS RELATED TO ANY OF THE OTHER RECALLS.

CAR ENGINE STALLED IN TURNING AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF DRIVING. HAD TROUBLE RESTARTING CAR. AFTER A FEW ATTEMPTS CAR POWERED BACK ON AND BROUGHT TO LOCAL MECHANIC WHICH DIAGNOSTIC CODE CAME UP FOR A LEAK IN A HOSE THAT FUELS THE ENGINE. BROUGHT CAR TO DEALSHIP AND EXPLAINED THAT OIL LEVEL WAS LOW AND NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. THIS WAS 2000 MILE AWAY FROM THE RECOMMENDED 5000 MILE OIL CHANGE. CAR OIL CHANGED AND DIAGNOSTIC CODE CLEARED AND THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN 2000 MILES AWAY FROM THE 5000 MILE RECCOMEND OIL CHANGE. ISSUE IS REPETITIVE FOR ABOUT 5 TIMES IN 3 YEARS.

THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SHIFTING HARD, HAS DELAYED SHIFTING AND DOWNSHIFTING, HAS AT TIMES STALLED WHILE IDLING AND SHOWN AN ERROR MESSAGE TO SHIFT TO P AND THEN TO DESIRED GEAR, REQUIRING ME TO RESTART THE CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE PERFORMED SOFTWARE UPDATES, BUT THE SHIFTING PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURRING. IN RECENT MONTHS, I HAVE HAD TWO OCCURRENCES OF FILLING THE GAS TANK AND THEN THE CAR RUNS VERY ROUGHLY FOR A SHORT TIME. ON THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, THE CAR ALSO DIED WHILE IDLING AND SHOWED THE ERROR MESSAGE ALREADY MENTIONED.

THE VEHICLE JUST STOPS WITH NO WARNING WHILE I AM DRIVING! THE FIRST TIME WAS ON THE NJ TURNPIKE DOING 70 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE. STARTED IT BACK UP AND IT DID THE SAME THING ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER. TOOK IT TO JEEP SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS A LOOSE WIRE. SEEMED OK FOR A FEW MONTHS AND THEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. JEEP REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION MODULE. DROVE IT ANOTHER FEW MONTHS - HAPPENED AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I WAS PETRIFIED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. WHEN I COMPLAINED TO CHRYSLER, ALL THEY COULD DO WAS OFFER ME A CDI CODE WHICH IS A TINY DISCOUNT ON A NEW CHRYSLER VEHICLE. I FINALLY JUST TRADED THE CAR IN AND PURCHASED ANOTHER VEHICLE BUT I LOST A LOT OF MONEY IN DOING SO. THIS SITUATION IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED IN THIS VEHICLE. LET ME REPEAT, THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES SO BELOW, WHEN YOU ASK "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" - I AM USING THE DATE OF THE LAST INCIDENT.

Electronic stability control (ESC), Apr 23, 2018
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON FOR CODE B104E AND EVERY TIME I TAKE IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED OUT NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WRONG WITH IT. THIS CODE HAS BEEN THROWN 4 TIMES IN A YEAR AND EVERY TIME THEY SAY THEY CAN'T FIND AN ISSUE.

THE TRANSMISSION IS JERKING WHEN IT SHIFTS SOMETIMES. IT IS NOT A SMOOTH SHIFT ESPECIALLY WHEN SHIFTING TO 1ST, 2ND, 3RD, &4TH. THE TECHS SAY NOTHING IS WRONG, BUT ITS NOT RIGHT. SOMETIMES IT SHIFTS LATE TOO. I HAVE ALSO HAD THE CAR JERK FORWARD WHEN IM COMING TO A STOP AND ITS DOWNSHIFTING. IT ACTUALLY PUSHED MY CAR FORWARD AS I WAS PUSHING ON THE BREAKS TO SLOW DOWN FOR A STOPLIGHT.

I WAS HAVING SOME ISSUES WITH MY 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE IN JANUARY 2018. THE SCREEN WAS SHOWING SERVICE TRANSMISSION, SHIFT CAR TO PARK, THEN TO DESIRED GEAR. DURING THIS TIME I WAS STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF A CITY STREET UNABLE TO MOVE. THE SHIFTER WAS IN DRIVE, BUT THE VEHICLE CLEARLY WASN'T. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, IT FINALLY SHIFTED TO DRIVE, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE FEW MILES HOME, BUT THE VEHICLE STAYED IN A LOW GEAR.THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND TOLD ME I NEEDED TO PAY FOR A SOFTWARE UPDATE. HAVING A TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE, BUT I WAS LED TO BELIEVE THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. ON APRIL 4TH, 2018 THE SAME SERVICE TRANSMISSION ISSUE OCCURRED AGAIN. I WAS STUCK IN THE LEFT TURN LANE AT AN INTERSECTION, AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T MOVE. I SHIFTED TO DRIVE, MANUAL, NEUTRAL, AND REVERSE, AND IT WOULDN'T MOVE. THE SAME ERROR MESSAGES WERE SHOWING ON THE SCREEN AS BEFORE. I SAT THERE FOR TWENTY MINUTES UNTIL IT FINALLY WENT INTO DRIVE. I IMMEDIATELY DROVE IT TO THE DEALER THAT LOOKED AT IT THE FIRST TIME. I WAS UPSET AS WE HAD JUST PAID FOR THE ISSUE TO BE FIXED. WE WERE TOLD, "CHRYSLER SAYS WE MUST CHECK FOR SOFTWARE UPDATES FIRST." SINCE IT SHOWED UPDATES AVAILABLE, THEY ASSUMED THIS WAS THE PROBLEM AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. HAS CHRYSLER FOUND THAT THEIR SOFTWARE CAUSES TRANSMISSIONS TO BEHAVE IN THIS FASHION? IF SO, WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL? GIVEN THAT A TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION OF THIS SORT IS SUCH A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, WHY WOULD CHRYSLER NOT TAKE OUR CLAIM MORE SERIOUSLY AND ACTUALLY DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE? I BELIEVE THE NHTSA SHOULD CONSIDER STEPPING IN BECAUSE IT WON'T BE TOO MUCH LONGER BEFORE THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE LEADS TO A CONSUMER'S DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY, IF IT HASN'T ALREADY HAPPENED.

WHEN DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED MILES VEHICLE DOESN'T SHIFT INTO 9TH GEAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS PUT IT INTO MANUAL AND SHOWS 8TH GEAR. MANUALLY SHIFT TO 9TH, AND TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SHIFT INTO 9TH. VEHICLE GOT GREAT GAS MILEAGE AND NOW RPM ARE HIGH SO ISN'T ABLE TO GET AS GREAT OF MILEAGE. DID THE RECALL FOR WIRING HARNESS ON TRANSMISSION AND THAT FIXED THE ERROR WITH VEHICLE GOING INTO SAFE MODE. BUT NOW THERE IS THIS ISSUE. NO RECALLS, BUT WEB SEARCHES SHOW MANY PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE. ## VIN PASSED ## 2014 JEEP CHAROKEE TRAILHAWK ##

A POP-UP MESSAGE APPEARS THAT THE "VEHICLE PHONE REQUIERS SERVICE" THE GPS BECOMES INOPERATIVE AND CAUSES LOSS OF GPS FUNCTION. THESE FAULTS ARE DISCUSSED I SERVICE BULLETIN SB-10058300-8397. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY AND CAN OCCUR AT ANYTIME. THIS OCCURRED WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND BUT WAS REPORTED TO JEEP 3 DAYS AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. IT WAS INTERMITTENT AT THE TIME AND I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A COMPUTER GLITCH. IT IS NOW SO UNRELIABLE THAT IT IS USELESS. JEEP REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO SUPPORT REPAIR OF THIS ISSUE WHICH THEY KNOW EXISTS. THEIR U-CONNECT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TELLING ME TERE IS A SOFTWARE FIX FOR THIS TO PUT ME OFF FOR SIX MONTHS BUT HAVE NOT PRODUCED ANYTHNG WHICH COULD FIX THIS. IT IS TIME FOR A RECALL ON THIS ITEM SO THAT THEY ARE FORCED TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. BY THE WAY EVEN THOUGH THEY KNEW THERE WERE POTENTIAL ISSUES WITH THIS FUNCTION OF THE RADIO THEY FAILED TO INFORM THEIR CUSTOMERS OF THE PROBLEMS. IF THEY HAD IINFORMED ME THIS PROBLEM WOULD HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THEM 2 MONTHS EARLIER AND WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THIS IS WRONG, JUST WRONG.
