Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Power train, driveline, differential unitJun 11, 2020
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. This recall began July 14, 2020. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is W47.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. For a full list of the affected fire extinguisher models visit: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17E062-5427.pdf
If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began February 14, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403 or Kidde customer service service toll-free at 1-855-262-3540, or online at www.kidde.com and click on "Product Safety Recall" for more information. Power train, automatic transmissionJul 12, 2016
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and 2015 Chrysler 200, Jeep Renegade, RAM ProMaster, and 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles equipped with 9-speed automatic transmissions. The transmission sensor clusters may have insufficient crimps in the transmission wire harness, and as a result, the transmission may unexpectedly shift to neutral. On August 29, 2016 Chrysler added the 2016 Fiat 500X vehicles to this recall.
If the vehicle unexpectedly shifts to neutral, there is an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Transmission Control Module and if necessary replace the transaxle range sensor wire harness, free of charge. The recall began on November 7, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is S55.

I JUST GOT MY VEHICLE IN APRIL 13, 17 MY VEHICLE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF WHILE AT THE STREET LIGHT AND IT DOES THIS WHEN EVER IT FEELS LIKE IT AND WHEN EVER I TURN MY VEHICLE ON SOMETIMES MY INSIDE DASHBOARD OR RADIO LIGHTS WON'T COME ON AND IT'S STILL TRYING TO BE FIXED THIS IS RIDICULOUS
Engine, Nov 15, 2017
WHILE DRIVING ON SUNDAY MY JEEP SUDDENLY WITHOUT NOTICE OR WARNING SHUT OFF AND WOULD NOT RESTART, I WAS STRANDED IN MIDDLE OF THE ROAD SINCE THERE WAS NO WARNING I HAD NO TIME TO PULL TO SIDE. AAA TOWED TO CLARK CHRYSLER/JEEP WHERE IT WAS BOUGHT AND UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. ALL PM'S HAVE BEEN DONE THERE AND DONE TIMELY. WHAT THEY FOUND WAS JEEP WAS DOWN 3 QTS OF OIL, I ASKED HOW THAT COULD BE AND WHY WOULD ENGINE SHUT OFF SO ABRUPTLY THEY CLAIM THE 2.4 ENGINES USE 1QT PER 1,000 MILES, THAT NO INDICATOR OR WARNING COMES ON AND ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF TO PROTECT IT. NO WHERE IS IT LISTED IN OWNERS MANUAL, I HAVE BEEN IN AUTOMOTIVE FOR OVER 30 YEARS AND IF AN ENGINE BURNS A QT PER 1,000 YOU REBUILD OR BUY A NEW ENGINE, I AM NOW TOLD I MUST CHECK AND ADD OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES ON A 2015 WITH ONLY 42,000 MILES! SAFETY CONCERN IS IF ANYONE IS ON HIGHWAY IT COULD CAUSE DEATH WITH A SUDDEN STOPPAGE OF VEHICLE, I WAS LEFT IN THE MIDDLE OF OF A COUNTRY ROAD AND AAA HAD POLICE COME TO HELP BLOCK ME FROM TRAFFIC PASSING AROUND ME, I NEVER HEARD OF ANYTHING LIKE THIS SO I CALLED JEEP AND MELISA ON THEIR CONSUMER LINE CONFIRMED WITH SERVICE TECH IAN HOGAN AND TOLD ME THAT SHE IS TOLD IT HAPPENS AND THERE IS NO WARNING , HOW CAN JEEP THINK THIS IS SAFE WITHOUT AT LEAST NOTIFYING OWNERS TO BE AWARE?

TAKATA RECALL. CAR STALLS LOSING ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING WHEN OIL CHANGE IS NEEDED. OIL CHANGE LIGHT CAME ON RECENTLY. CAR HAS BEEN STALLING IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE ROAD. ALSO HAPPENED LAST TIME OIL CHANGE LIGHT CAME ON. WAS TOLD BY JEEP DEALER THAT IT IS COMMON. VERY DANGEROUS.
Power train, Nov 14, 2017
SERVICE TRANSMISSION CAME ON AFTER I PURCHASED THIS CAR 3 DAYS AGO WITH 47K MILES. AS I SLOWED TO A STOP COMING OFF THE HIGHWAY THE CAR VIBRATED VIOLENTLY REPEATEDLY AND THEN CUT OFF. IT TOOK 3 TRIES TO FINALLY TURN THE VEHICLE ON AND IT CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. AT ONE POINT I WAS HAVING TO THROW THE CAR IN NEUTRAL TO GET IT TO STOP JERKING AS I DECELERATED. THAT CREATED A WHOLE OTHER PROBLEM BECAUSE I THEN WHEN I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE I HAD NO ACCELERATION CONTROL. I HAD TO ROLL OFF THE ROAD, THROW IT INTO PARK, KILL THE ENGINE, AND RESTART THE CAR TO GET BACK CONTROL OF THE ACCELERATOR. VERY SCARY AND UNSAFE!
Power train, Engine, Nov 11, 2017
VEHICLE RPMS REV UP TO 4000-5000 WHEN GOING DOWN HILLS ON CITY STREETS GOING 15-20MPH. VEHICLE RANDOMLY ACCELERATES WHEN NOT HITTING GAS AND VEHICLE NOT ON CRUISE CONTROL. VEHICLE JERKS WHEN CHANGING GEARS. VEHICLE ALSO STUDDERS WHEN PULLING OUT ON CITY STREETS. PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON OCTOBER 21, 2017 WITH 34,000 MILES. TOOK VEHICLE TO CERTIFIED JEEP MECHANIC ON NOVEMBER 6, 2017 WITH MY COMPLAINT. THEY STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE 'FLASHED'. I PICKED THE VEHICLE BACK UP AT 4:30PM. AFTER LEAVING IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. WHEN APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT ON A CITY STREET AS I BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE SHUT COMPLETELY OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE STRAIGHT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAPPENED. THEY GAVE ME A RENTAL VEHICLE AS THEY WERE CLOSING AND DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM. I PICKED THE VEHICLE BACK UP ON NOVEMBER 7, 2017. THEY STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE AS IT RANDOMLY ACCELERATES AND CUTS OFF RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING. JEEP NEEDS TO RECALL THIS MODEL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. EVERY TIME I DRIVE THIS VEHICLE I AM WORRIED IT'S GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR ONLY THREE SHORT WEEKS AND I'VE ALREADY HAD IT IN THE SHOP TWICE. I HAVEN'T EVEN MADE MY FIRST PAYMENT.
Power train, Vehicle speed control, Engine, Nov 5, 2017
THE VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN I AM TRYING TO SLOW DOWN. THIS HAPPENED TOP ME WHILE DRIVING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD AND HAPPENED TO ME WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. HAD THIS ISSUE BEFORE WHEN CAR WAS ALMOST BRAND NEW, TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FLASHED THE SYSTEM. SAID IT WAS A RECALL. CAR DROVE FINE FOR A WHILE BUT NOW I AM HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AGAIN.

THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION SHIFT QUALITY IS ERRATIC! OCCUPANTS EXPERIENCE LURCHING AND BUCKING SENSATION AT LOW SPEEDS IN BOTH FORWARD AND REVERSE MOTIONS. THIS RESULTS IN A POTENTIAL SAFETY CONCERN FOR PEDESTRIANS IN ADDITION TO AN UNSAFE AND UNCOMFORTABLE RIDE IN THE VEHICLE. AN UNMISTAKEABLE CONSEQUENCE IS THE IMPAIRMENT IN VALUE OF THIS VEHICLE IN REFERENCE TO RESALE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ATTEMPTED TO REMEDY THE STATED ISSUE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WITH NO SUCCESS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ALSO ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS STATED THAT FUTURE SOFTWARE UPGRADES WILL ALLEVIATE THE SHIFT QUALITY ISSUE OF THIS 9-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BUT HAS YET TO DELIVER ANY SUCH REMEDY. PLEASE ADVISE! *JS

DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AND I SUDDENLY HAVE NO POWER. I COULD PUSH THE THROTTLE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR WITH NO RESPONSE. I HAD TO MAKE IT ACROSS MULTIPLE LANES OF TRAFFIC GOING 75MPH AND PULL TO THE SHOULDER. I TRIED RESTARTING AND IT SHUTTERED AND DIED, TWICE. LET IT SIT FOR A MIN AND THEN IT RESTARTED. IT HAPPENED 2 DAYS LATER. THIS TIME I WAS PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP SIGN AND I HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I SLAMMED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT SHUTTERED AND GOT POWER AGAIN.
Suspension, Power train, Oct 28, 2017
THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TWO SOFTWARE UPDATES AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIX IT WHEN I WENT BACK THE THIRD TIME FOR THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. I ALSO HAD A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END THAT WAS FIXED WITH THE NOISE RETURNING SHORTLY AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRING. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO MISS DOWNSHIFTS AND DOES NOT SHIFT PROPERLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE.

I HAVE A 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH 25K MILES ON IT. THE TRANSMISSION WILL COME OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING, USUALLY THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN ON SECONDARY ROADS. THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT RE-ENGAGE UNTIL I STOP THE VEHICLE AND MAKE MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS. USUALLY IT WILL BEGIN WITH THE RADIO ACTING UP, THEN GEAR SHIFT LIGHTS AND DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS WILL START FLASHING. I HAVE A DETAILED VIDEO IF INTERESTED. COULD NOT ATTACH FILE. *BF UPDATED 9/12/18*JB

TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 MONTHS. ONCE IT FINALLY ENABLED ME TO PUT IT IN DRIVE IT WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS RIGHT. THE HIGHEST IT WOULD GO IS 3RD OUT OF 9. IT JERKS FORWARD ON ALL GEAR CHANGES. THE SERVICE TRANSMISSION WARNING KEEPS FLASHING. PRIOR TO THIS THE AUTO START /STOP FEATURE FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE LOCAL JEEP DEALER HAS TRIED TO REPAIR THIS 3 TIMES FOR US. WE ARE THE 2ND OWNER. THE FIRST OWNER HAD THE SAME ISSUES. THE ORIGINAL OWNER HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. WE WERE NEVER TOLD OF THE LEMON "BUY BACK" WHEN WE BOUGHT THE CAR.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 7 MPH, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD INDEPENDENTLY. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DOWNSHIFTED HARD FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR AND THE RPMS INCREASED RAPIDLY. CHARLIE'S DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP RAM IN MAUMEE, OHIO WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED THE FOLLOWING SERIES OF REPAIRS: THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED, BOTH FRONT AXLES WERE REPLACED, THE TRANSMISSION SOFTWARE WAS UPGRADED, THE VALVE BODY WAS REPLACED, AND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE CV JOINT WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH CASE NUMBER: 32656386. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.

MY CAR HAS BEEN STALLING ON THE FIRST DRIVE OF THE MORNING FOR 4 DAYS. STARTS UP AND IT'S FINE AFTER THAT. YESTERDAY WHILE VIDEOING IT TO SHOW A DEALER, I HEARD A DING. SAW NOTHING ON THE PANEL. REVIEWED THE VIDEO, AND I CAN ONLY SPECULATE IT SAID OIL PRESSURE LOW. IT LASTED LESS THAN HALF A SECOND AND DISAPPEARED. I CHECKED MY OIL AND FOUND IT TO BE BARELY REGISTERING ON THE STICK. IT TOOK 2 1/2 QUARTS TO FILL IT. MY OIL CHANGE STICKER STATES I'M 1200 MILES AWAY FROM THE 4000 MARK THE DEALER PUTS ON IT. I WAS TOLD TODAY BY A JEEP DEALER, THAT THE 2.4 ENGINE IN THE CHEROKEE WILL USE A QUART OF OIL EVERY 750-1000 MILES IF OVER 50,000 MILES. I HAVE 56,580 MILES. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN OIL IS LOW, THE CAR WILL STALL TO PREVENT DAMAGE AS A SAFETY FEATURE. UNFORTUNATELY THIS HAS CAUSED ME TO HAVE TO COAST ACROSS A BUSY TWO LANE ROAD WHILE MAKING A TURN, SO I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT. IT THEN TAKES 2-3 TIME TO CRANK IT OVER TO RESTART IT. THIS WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 40,009 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERS SAY THIS IS PERFECTLY NORMAL FOR THIS ENGINE TO BURN OIL. I DON'T BELIEVE ANY MANURACTURER SHOULD SELL VEHICLES THAT "BURN" OIL AT A QUART PER 1000 MILES. I BOUGHT A NEWER CAR FOR LESS MAINTENANCE. NOW I HAVE TO ADD OIL ONCE A MONTH TO MY CAR. NOT TO MENTION THAT IF A DUMMY LIGHT OR MESSAGE COMES ON REGARDING SOMETHING SUBSTANTIAL TO SHUT YOUR CAR OFF, WHY DOES THE MESSAGE ONLY FLASH SO YOU CAN'T EVEN READ IT? I HAD TO WATCH THE VIDEO TO SEE POSSIBLY WHAT IT SAID. I AM UNABLE TO SEND THE VIDEO FROM MY PHONE BECAUSE IT IS TOO LARGE. I'M TRYING TO GET IT TO SYNC SO I CAN SEND IT. THIS IS THE FLASH OF THE WARNING MESSAGE, NOT AN ACTUAL STALL.

EXTREMELY ROUGH SHIFTING FOR THE FIRST 3 OR 4 GEARS. SHUTTERING BETWEEN GEARS IF I SLOW DOWN AND SPEED BACK UP IN TRAFFIC. IF I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND BEGIN TO ACCELERATE THE FIRST GEAR IS A VERY HARD JERK. ITS GETTING SEEMINGLY WORSE THE LONGER I DRIVE IT AND ITS BECOMING VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE IN TRAFFIC. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2017 AND HAD IT LOOKED AT IN MARCH OF 2017. OVERLAND PARK JEEP DEALERSHIP DID A "SOFTWARE UPDATE" AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. THIS WAS NO HELP. I'VE CALLED MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY SAY THERE'S NO ISSUES OR UPDATES AVAILABLE. TOOK IT IN AGAIN IN SEPTEMBER 2017 AND ANOTHER "SOFTWARE UPDATE" WAS DONE. STILL NO CHANGE. ITS THERE NOW AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT THEY'VE BEEN DRIVING IT FOR 3 DAYS AND ITS "NOT ACTING UP" . SO I ASKED WHAT I SHOULD DO WHEN I PICK IT UP AND ITS STILL HAPPENING. THEY SAID "I GUESS BRING IT BACK". ITS SO UNSAFE AND IT SEEMS LIKE THEY THINK I HAVE NOTHING BETTER TO DO THAN BRING THE CAR IN AND RENT A CAR.

FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS, MY 2015 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS BEEN AT AN AUTO BODY SHOP TO REPAIR DAMAGE MADE FROM A BREAK IN. I HAVE NOT DRIVEN MY CAR SINCE SEPTEMBER 22ND. THIS MORNING, AFTER FINALIZING THE PAPERWORK WITH THE REPAIR FACILITY AND PAYING A DEDUCTIBLE, I WAS ABLE TO FINALLY DRIVE MY JEEP AGAIN. PULLED OUT OF THE BODY SHOP'S PARKING LOT, ONTO A CITY STREET, DROVE NOT EVEN A QUARTER OF A MILE AND MAYBE A MINUTE OR SO INTO THE DRIVE AND THE DASHBOARD ICON OF THE BATTERY ILLUMINATED, THE NOTIFICATION SOUND PLAYED, AND THE CAR SLOWED TO A STOP AGAIN. ALSO, THE NOTIFICATION CENTER DISPLAYED "SHIFT TO PARK". LUCKILY THIS TIME I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I SHIFTED INTO PARK, PLACED MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON, AND WAVED THE CARS THAT WERE BEHIND ME TO DRIVE AROUND. MADE THE ATTEMPT TO RESTART TWICE WITH NO SUCH LUCK. THE THIRD ATTEMPT SAW THE CAR TURN BACK ON SUCCESSFULLY. THE REPAIR FACILITY THAT I LEFT IS THANKFULLY A FEW MILES AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I LEASE THE CHEROKEE. I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER, PLACED THE CAR IN FRONT OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND WALKED IN TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER TALKING WITH ONE MEMBER OF THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, HE STATED THAT HE WOULD TRY TO SQUEEZE THE CHEROKEE IN FOR SOME TESTING BUT COULDN'T GUARANTEE IT BECAUSE THERE WERE MANY CARS SCHEDULED FOR SERVICE AND ONLY ONE PERSON AVAILABLE TO POSSIBLY LOOK AT MY CAR. FINALLY, AFTER A FEW HOURS IN THE CUSTOMER WAITING AREA, I WAS TOLD THAT THE JEEP WAS LOW ON OIL. AND THAT THE CHEROKEE ALONG WITH THE CHRYSLER 200, AND ANOTHER CAR THAT I CANNOT REMEMBER AT THE MOMENT ARE DESIGNED TO STALL WHEN THE AMOUNT OF OIL BECOMES LOW. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEE SAID THAT THIS WAS A "EUROPEAN DESIGN SAFETY FEATURE" FOR THE CAR. I KEPT THE CHEROKEE AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THEM TO CONTINUE TO INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM ON THIS UPCOMING MONDAY THE 10TH OF OCTOBER.

MY JEEP CHEROKEE HAS THE 9 SPEED TRANSMISSION. I WENT TO START THE CAR IT TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO START WHEN IT DID THE CAR DROPPED HARD INTO GEAR AND ALL OF THE SERVICE TRANS LIGHTS CAME ON AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET HOME AS THE CAR WAS HAVING A VERY HARD TIME GETTING INTO GEAR AND STAYED IN 2 WHEEL DRIVE MODE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME MY DRIVE TRAN WARRANTY COVERED THE COST AND I JUST NEEDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE. FOUR DAYS LATER I WAS DRIVING WITH MY HUSBAND AND 8 MONTH OLD BABY AND WHILE STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN THE CAR DIED AND AGAIN TOOK SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART, ALL TRANS LIGHTS CAME ON AND COULD NOT GET INTO GEAR, WE HAD TO DRIVE SLOWLY HOME WITH OUR HAZARDS ON AND NEARLY GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT WHEN TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC WHEN IT KEPT SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR.

RANDOMLY THE VEHICLE FEELS AS IF SOMEONE IS HITTING THE CAR FROM THE FRONT END WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE DUE TO A VERY HARD SHIFT INTO REVERSE. RANDOMLY THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM WILL SHUT OFF WHEN PARKED AND TURNING THE CAR ON. THE AUTO ON/OFF WILL RANDOMLY SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON. I HESITATED REPORTING THIS THINKING THAT IT WAS PROBABLY JUST BAD LUCK BUT BECAUSE OF A CONVERSATION WITH A CO-WORKER WHO IS HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS I THOUGHT THAT IT MAY BE A SYMPTOM OF A LARGER PROBLEM AND SOMETHING I SHOULD REPORT. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS IT COULD BE A DISASTER.

MY JEEP'S TRANSMISSION IN GEARS 1 AND 2 WILL SPORADICALLY HAVE ISSUES WITH HESITATIONS, STALLING, JERKING THE CAR FORWARD, AND LOUD CLUNK SOUNDS DURING SHIFTING. I WILL BE AT A STOP SIGN STOPPED, PUSH THE GAS TO GO AND IT WILL HESITATE FOR 1 SECOND, THEN JOLT FORWARD WHEN IT DECIDES TO MOVE. ONE INSTANCE I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET AND WANTED TO GO FASTER, I PRESSED ON THE GAS AND IT ALL OF SUDDEN SEEMED TO HAVE STALLED OUT. GAS WAS NOT DOING ANYTHING FOR A GOOD 5 SECONDS. I WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TRYING TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC AS MY SPEED WAS DECLINING AND THEN IT KICKED IN AND WENT. AS OF RECENT, IT HAS STARTED TO MAKE A LOUD CLUNK SOUND AND SLIGHT JERK WHEN MOVING FROM LOW GEARS WHILE IN MOTION. AGAIN THIS IS ALL SPORADIC. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN ALL THE TIME. I BROUGHT IT INTO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS ABOUT THE ISSUE. THEY FLASHED THE ELECTRONIC COMPONENT BOTH TIMES. FLASHING SEEMED TO HELP FOR A FEW WEEKS, THEN IT SLOWLY WENT BACK TO THE SPORADIC BEHAVIOR. NOTE: THIS HAS BEEN OVER 3 YEARS, NOT ONCE SPECIFIC INSTANCE.

FCA'S UCONNECT APP FOR IPHONE RANDOMLY LAUNCHES ON MY IPHONE WHILE INSIDE THE VEHICLE. WHEN IT LAUNCHES, IT TAKES AWAY MY ABILITY TO SEE NAVIGATION SOFTWARE (E.G. WAZE, APPLE MAPS, ON MY CELL PHONE. I THEN NEED TO DIVERT MY ATTENTION TO THE PHONE AND DISABLE THE UCONNECT APP. SOMETIMES I HAVE TO DO IT MORE THAN ONCE. THIS IS DISTRACTING AND UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED.
