Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a power liftgate. An electrical short in the power liftgate module may lead to a vehicle fire with the ignition on or off.
A fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will relocate the power liftgate module and add a water shield. In addition, dealers will inspect for corrosion and replace the module and electrical connectors, if necessary. Repairs will be performed free of charge. Owner letters were mailed March 1, 2024. Owners may contact FCA US, LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA US, LLC's number for this recall is 49A. This recall supersedes recalls 15V-393 and 15V-826. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will still need to have the new remedy performed.

Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) is recalling certain 2016-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles. The power transfer unit (PTU) may become damaged and disengage the transmission and differential, resulting in a loss of drive power or loss of park function.
A loss of drive power can increase the risk of a crash. A loss of park function can cause an unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 11, 2023. Owners may contact FCA USA LLC customer service at 1-800-853-1403. FCA's number for this recall is 45A. This recall expands previous recall number 20V-343.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2017 Jeep Cherokee vehicles equipped with a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU). Relative movement in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) between the differential input splines and the transmission output shaft may cause some input spline teeth to wear off, which may eventually cause a loss of engagement between the transmission and the differential inside the PTU. If this occurs, power cannot be transferred between the front wheels and the transmission which results in a loss of drive while the vehicle is in motion and a loss of the Park function while stationary.
A loss of drive can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning. A loss of the Park function can cause unintended vehicle rollaway which can increase the risk of a crash or injury.
FCA US LLC will notify owners, and dealers will perform a software update that will maintain vehicle propulsion by engaging rear wheel drive and prevent rolling in Park by activating the electronic parking brake if a failed input spline occurs. Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Dodge Journey, Charger and Durango, RAM 2500, 3500, 3500 Cab Chassis (more than 10,000lb), 4500 Cab Chassis and 5500 Cab Chassis, Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee and Chrysler 300, 2014-2019 RAM 1500, 2015-2018 Dodge Challenger, 2015-2017 Chrysler 200, 2016-2018 RAM 3500 Cab Chassis (less than 10,000 lb), 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica and 2018 Jeep Wrangler vehicles. These vehicles are being recalled to address a defect that could prevent the cruise control system from disengaging. If, when using cruise control, there is a short circuit within the vehicle's wiring, the driver may not be able to shut off the cruise control either by depressing the brake pedal or manually turning the system off once it has been engaged, resulting in either the vehicle maintaining its current speed or possibly accelerating.
If the vehicle maintains its speed or accelerates despite attempts to deactivate the cruise control, there would be an increased risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the software, and perform a software flash on the engine or powertrain control module, free of charge. The recall began June 4, 2018. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Note: Owners are advised to stop using cruise control until the software update has been performed. In the event that cruise control cannot be disengaged while driving, owners should firmly and steadily apply the brakes and shift the transmission to neutral, placing the vehicle in park once it has stopped.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling various Dodge, Chrysler, and RAM vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V824-0103.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or requiring excessive force to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. If the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured July 29, 2013, to February 5, 2016. The seat fasteners on the first or second row seats may not have been tightened to the proper torque specification.
Loose fasteners may allow the seats to move, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupants in the event of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 Jeep Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 18, 2015, to September 10, 2015 and equipped with the power liftgate option. In the affected vehicles, water may leak into the Power Liftgate Control Module and result in a high resistance short circuit.
A short circuit in the module increases the risk of a fire.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the module and connectors for corrosion, replacing the damaged components as necessary. The mastic shield will be removed and the module will be covered with a water shield. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on February 1, 2016. PURCHASED VEHICLE ON 12/14/2015. ON 1/25/17, AT 17,000 MILES THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. IT WAS RAINING HEAVILY AND CAUSING A TRAFFIC ISSUE. LAW ENFORCEMENT HAD TO BE CALLED TO RE-DIRECT TRAFFIC. SINCE THE FIRST STALL, THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE LOCAL DODGE/JEEP DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES FOR THE SAME ISSUES (4/20/17, 8/18/17, 3/25/18 AND 12/4/18). THEY HAVE REPLACED COILS, FILTERS AND EXPLAINED THE ENGINE WILL SHUT DOWN IF IT SENSES LOW OIL. THEY CONTINUE TO STATE THE OIL CONSUMPTION AS THE REASON FOR THE STALLS. THEY HAVE NO SOLUTION BUT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN EVERY 1000K MILES TO CHECK THE OIL. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN ON 12/25/18. LUCKILY, I WAS IN A PARKING LOT AND THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME WAS GOING SLOW ENOUGH TO STOP. IF NOT, I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT WITH MY TODDLER IN THE VEHICLE. USUALLY IT TAKES SEVERAL HOURS FOR THE VEHICLE TO START AGAIN BUT ON THIS INCIDENT THE VEHICLE STARTED WITHIN 5 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE IS NOW SHOWING A "SERVICE SHIFTER" AND THE DEALER STATED IT NEEDED A NEW BATTERY. I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" WAS BACK ON WITHIN 15 DAYS OF REPLACING THE BATTERY. THIS VEHICLE IS A SAFETY HAZARD.

IN THE LAST 4 DAYS MY CAR HOW JUST COMPLETELY SHUT OFF 3 TIMES ON 12/23/18, 12/26/18 AND 12/27/18, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN 4 TIMES BUT I DIDN'T DRIVE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. THE FIRST 2 TIMES IT HAPPENED I WAS LEAVING MY WORK PARKING LOT DRIVING NO MORE THAN 10-15 MPH. TODAY 12/27 MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT . THIS HAPPENS WITH NO WARNING AT ALL! LUCKILY NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME WHEN I STALLED. I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE ON SOCIAL MEDIA WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM! WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE WILL DECELERATE AND WARNING LIGHT APPEARS TO SHIFT CAR IN GEAR. THEN CAR TURNS OFF. CAN NOT USE BREAKS, ALL ELECTRONICS FLASH AND COLTAGE LIGHT ALARM COMES ON. WHEN TAKEN TO DEALER TWICE, NO ERRORS FOUND. MY CHILDREN DROVE IT TODAY AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED AND ALL WARNING LIGHTS CAME IN ALONG WITH A MESSAGE TO SHIFT THE CAR INTO GEAR. WHEN I WOULD TAKE IT IN TO GET LOOKED AT I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THAT CODE BEING DISPLAYED IN THE CAR LOG/MEMORY AND THAT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DELEARSHIP COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. UPON DOING RESEARCH ON THIS MESSAGE I FOUND THAT MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM AND IF LEFT UNCHECKED CAN CAUSE THE VECHICLE TO SHIFT INTO PARK WHILE IN MOTION CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND ACCIDENTS. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A SAFE PLACE, BUT CAR WOULD NOT RESTART AGAIN AFTER FOR A FEW HOURS. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE CAR AND CAME TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN THE CAR DIED AGAIN. I HAVE A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE LIMITED. WHEN I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND SLOW DOWN SUCH AS TO MAKE A TURN OR STOP AT A REDLIGHT, THE ENGINE DIES OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. I HAD A DIAGNOSTIC TEST DONE ON IT, AND THE TEST INDICATED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED CLEANING OR THE AIR FILTER WAS DIRTY. I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND THE AIR FILTER REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. THE IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN IN THAT THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHILE I WAS IN AN INTERSECTION MAKING A TURN. I AM CONCERNED THAT I WILL GET HIT BY ON COMING TRAFFIC, IF THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN. I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE TO DRIVE NOR IS PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE. WHEN DRIVING IN THE MOUNTAINS OF WEST VIRGINIAN HAVING THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 70 EVERYTHING WORKS FINE UNTIL YOU COME TO A STEEP DOWN HILL GRADE. SUDDENLY I WOULD LOOK DOWN AND I WOULD BE DOING 90 MILES A HOUR AND THE ENGINE RPM IS OVER 5000. THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. 3 TIMES I WOULD JUST TOUCH THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE RPM WOULD IMMEDIATELY GO DOWN TO AROUND 2000 RPM. ONE TIME I HADE TO STAND ON THE BRAKES FOR SEVERAL SECONDS UNTIL THE RPM WOULD GO DOWN. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR ONE TIME. MY SON DROVE THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS ON OUR WAY TO THE EAST COAST AND I DROVE THROUGH THEM ON THE WAY HOME. HE TOLD ME THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM SEVERAL TIMES. THE TURN SIGNAL RIGHT STARTED TO GO OFF TOOK IT TO DEALER THEY REPAIR THIS HAPPEN S4 TIMES IN 2 YRS NOW THE LEFT SIDE IS DOING IT AND THE RIGHT SIDE ALSO THEY SAID IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND ITS GOING TO COST ME 1200 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE TURN SIGNAL ASSEMBLY EACHI TS NOT A PART THAT IS MOVED ITS A PLUG.

VEHICLE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR ANY OTHER INDICATION OF ISSUES. WAS ABLE TO RESTART AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES AND NO INDICATION LIGHTS ON AGAIN BUT DRIVING FINE. CHECKED OIL LEVEL THIS MORNING AND IT IS AT 83% AFTER ONLY 1375 MILES. EXTREMELY UNSAFE!!! CONDITIONS WERE DARK/NIGHTTIME AND ALL ELECTRICAL SHUT OFF AS WELL LEAVING US TO BE UNSEEN AND ALMOST HIT BY 18 WHEELER. THIS IS THE 3RD MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE IN LESS THAN ONE YEAR. IT HAS NEEDED NEW STARTER COIL, NEW THERMOSTAT AND NOW THIS.

I PURCHASED A 2016 JEEP CHEROKEE AND SINCE DAY ONE THE START/STOP FEATURE NEVER HAVE WORKED PROPERLY AND IT WASN'T UNTIL RECENTLY THAT, I WAS TOLD BY MY CURRENT DEALER THAT, IT IS THE BACKUP BATTERY AND THAT JEEP HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND SUPPOSEDLY JEEP IS LOOKING FOR ANOTHER MANUFACTURER BUT, I FEEL JEEP ALWAYS KNEW THIS AND DID NOT INFORM THE DEALERS AND CONSUMERS. THIS IS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 2 YEARS NOW AND THE JEEP REPRESENTATIVE HAVE SAID TO ME THAT, SHE HAVE SOME PEOPLE ON HER LIST AND I AM NOT ONE OF THEM AND AT THE TIME OF THIS REPORT/COMPLAIN, I HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION, UPDATE EITHER FROM THE DEALER OR JEEP. IF OTHER CONSUMERS JEEP OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THEN; WHY JEEP FAIL TO REPORT THE SITUATION AS A "RECALL"? THE START/STOP AND BACKUP BATTERY IS NOT A CRITICAL PROBLEM THAT MIGHT STOP THE CAR FROM FUNCTIONING BUT, IF I DECIDE TO SELL OR GIVE THE CAR ON TRADE-IN PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ASK ME ABOUT IT AND I'M AFRAID I MIGHT LOSE MONEY/VALUE BECAUSE OF THE FEATURE NOT WORKING.

AT 61,000 MILES MY JEEP STARTED HAVING A STRONG FUEL SMELL IN THE CABIN AFTER COMING TO A STOP WITH THE AUTO-START DIS-ENGAGED. READING ONLINE, MANY PEOPLE ON THE FORUMS HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES WITH CHEROKEES SINCE THE EARLY 2000'S WITH NO KNOWN MALFUNCTION TO FIX. THE EXHAUST SMELL HAS CAUSED HEADACHES IN THE LAST WEEK.

A SERVICE SHIFTER LIGHT HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE. WE HAD IT SERVICED ONCE. WHAT HAPPENS IS THE LIGHT COMES ON AND ALL GEARS ARE LIT UP AS TO SAY YOU'RE IN ALL GEARS P,R,N,D....ETC. THE CAR AT TIMES WON'T PICK UP SPEED RIGHT AWAY AND ALSO PAUSES WHEN SHIFTING GEARS.
