Recalls and investigations

  1. Electrical systemNov 14, 2019

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles equipped with a 3.6, 5.7, or 6.4 liter engine and previously recalled under NHTSA Recall 14V530 or 15V115. The fuel pump relay inside the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM-7) may fail, causing the vehicle to stall without warning.

A vehicle stall increases the risk of a crash.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) will replace the affected fuel pump relay and related wire harness. Interim notices informing owners of the safety risk were mailed beginning December 19, 2019. Vehicles that experience a fuel pump failure will receive an interim repair. Owners will receive a second notice when the final remedy becomes available. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 10, 2020. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is V62.

  2. Service brakesSep 18, 2017

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain 2011-2014 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles. The affected vehicles had brake booster shields installed under a previous campaign to prevent water from entering the brake booster and limiting braking ability. This recall is to verify that the brake booster shield installation was performed properly.

If the brake booster shield was not installed properly, the vehicle's braking ability may be reduced, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the brake booster shield, correcting the installation as necessary, free of charge. The recall began November10, 2017. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is T59.

Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2011-2013 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured December 3, 2009, to September 1, 2012. In the affected vehicles, the wiring for the vanity lamp in the sun visor may short circuit, after having been remedied for a prior recall for the vanity lamp wiring. This recall is also addressing certain vehicles that have not been remedied under that prior recall.

The vanity lamp wiring may short, increasing the risk of a vehicle fire.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealer will install clearance for sun visor wiring, protection from sharp edges, and replace the sun visor, free of charge. The recall began on July 28, 2016. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R71.

  6. Service brakesApr 1, 2014

Chrysler Group LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2011-2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango vehicles manufactured from January 5, 2010, through September 8, 2013. The subject vehicles have a brake booster with a center shell that may corrode and allow water to get inside.

The water inside could freeze and limit the braking ability of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will add a water diverter shield to the booster after the booster has been tested to confirm it can hold an acceptable amount of vacuum pressure. If the booster inspection confirms an unacceptable loss of vacuum pressure, the booster will be replaced. Repairs will be made free of charge. The recall began on May 30, 2014. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's recall campaign number is P14.

Since I bought it at the dealership the car hesitates to start, I took it several times and they couldn't find the fault, they said it could be a problem with the battery so I changed it and it kept doing the same thing. thing, they told me what the tank was. of gasoline I took it to a Nhtsa office and they told me that they would change the part, over time I had the same problem again but now a year has passed and the car no longer starts, from the beginning they have not helped me solve the problem problem. problem problem that comes from the factory.

  2. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Jul 7, 2024

The Horn has stopped working and it appears to be the Clock Spring. This is a safety hazard as it can cause the airbags to engage randomly or NOT engage in the case of a crash. This is an expensive repair that should not be at the expense of the owner since it is a defect in the Clock Spring. I am aware that there have been Clock Spring recalls on other models of Jeeps, but not on this one.

  3. Other or unspecified, May 9, 2024

Car stalled X 2 with a hard right hand turn.

  4. Other or unspecified, Jun 27, 2023, fire

My alternator caught fire. Car won’t start.

  5. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Engine, Apr 20, 2023

This vehicle stops while driving. It happens when it comes to a stop or slow down. Will turn off. In some instances I have lost my power brakes. This has been happening since November of 2022. The dealership has replaced the recall part, the fuel pump relay. Still happens. They thought it could be low transmission fuel. No, still happened. They have driven it over 100 miles and it wouldn’t replicate for them so they say they cannot fix it because there is no check engine light on. This is a safety hazard.

  6. Other or unspecified, Aug 25, 2022

I’m driving the vehicle and it will not shift out of park after putting it in park. I had to turn the car off in order to get it to shift out of park. This happened to me twice

This is a widespread complaint as it happens to every Jeep with leather dashboards. The leather starts to wrinkle & shrink, releasing it from the dashboard mount itself on my 2011Grand Cherokee Overland, which started in 2014. I tried to no avail to get Jeep to repair it under warranty, they denied it every time. In January 2020 I complained on Twitter about it & tagged Jeep in it, Jeep Cares contacted me and after a few messages back & forth, me providing pictures and my VIN, they told me I was entitled to a "X81" Extended Warranty for the leather to be replaced at no cost. I contacted dealer as they suggested & they told me to bring it in so they could see it & order replacement leather. We were in the middle of a World Wide Pandemic so I have waited to have that & many other issues fixed. When I went to dealership yesterday, I was told the X81 expired in June 2020, 6 months after I was told of it. I was NEVER told of any expiration period or I would have taken it in, I waited because of the Pandemic. EVERY leather dash by Jeep/Chrysler does the same thing as mine, they need to be responsible and cover it. I don't know the validity of it, but I've read this can cause premature passenger air bag deployment, that scares me.

  8. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Forward collision avoidance, Feb 26, 2022

I was leaving home from work and my car started perfectly fine and I drove like 50ft and the car completely shut down. I tried to jump it car to car but it was draining the other car batteries so I got a tow truck to come out and it jumped the car enough to get it in neutral and then it cut off. I changed the battery and alternator and It cuts on them after about 5-10 min it completely cuts off and won’t turn back on again. Lights on the dashboard pop up too before it cuts off.

  9. Steering, Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Dec 1, 2021

Jeep stalled out in traffic. Just died on the road.

  10. Steering, Other or unspecified, Engine, Sep 20, 2021

As I am about to turn right my vehicle completely shuts off and I lose power steering, etc. Brakes work enough to stop thankfully, but vehicle is completely off almost causing a crash. I am able to start my 2011 Jeep GC right back up and go on with the engine light on. The light then shut off as I am driving. After reading multiple cases of this same issue it is apparent something needs done and a resolution needs issued. This is an extreme safety issue and needs addressed now before injury or death occurs. I love Jeep but I do not think I will be able to get another (after having 3+) if this does not get addressed. Get this fixed and addressed now.

  11. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Sep 18, 2021

Headrest deployed on its own. I came out to my car 1 day and my airbag was headrest was deployed.

  13. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Forward collision avoidance, May 26, 2021

Dash board is severely wrinkled. This could possibly interfere with the integrity of the air bags.

  16. Power train, Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Feb 12, 2021

ON 2011-2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAS NO BATTERY ICON ON THE CLUSTER DISPLAYING WHETHER IT'S OVERCHARGED OR LOW CHARGE. WHILE I WAS ATTEMPTING TO JUMP-START THE SUV DUE TO A DEAD BATTERY ON THE DRIVEWAY. ANOTHER ISSUE IS THE TRANSMISSION ONCE THE VEHICLE IS SHIFTED FROM PARK TO DRIVE WHILE PARKED UPHILL OR DOWNHILL IT MAKES A CLUNKING SOUND WHILE SHIFTING GEARS.

  17. Air bags, Other or unspecified, Jan 21, 2021

PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST AIR BAG POPPED A FEW MONTHS AGO SMACKING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT, COULDN'T RESET IT. GOT AN EMAIL ABOUT HOW IT WAS AVAILABLE FOR SERVICE AND DEALERSHIP SAID THERE'S NO SUCH THING AFTER LOOKING AT. SEAMS STRANGE THE HEADREST AIRBAG WOULD JUST POP AND MOT BE RESETTABLE.

  18. Electrical system, Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Oct 12, 2020

OUR JEEP CONTINUES TO STALL WHILE BEING DRIVEN, MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE AS THE POWER STEERING AND POWER ASSISTED BRAKES STOP WORKING WHEN THE ENGINE STALLS. THIS IS THE SUBJECT OF SEVERAL RECALLS, MOST RECENTLY V62/NHTSA 19V-813 ISSUED A YEAR AGO. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO CORRECT THIS DANGEROUS FAULT WITH OUR JEEP. WE HAVE EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE STALLS SINCE 2015 FAILED RECALL AND THEY CONTINUE TO THIS DATE, ALWAYS WHILE BRAKING AND MOSTLY WHILE ALSO TURNING TO THE RIGHT. *LN*JB

FUEL PUMP RELAY ISSUE; NO PARTS HAVE BEEN MADE YET AND MY CAR KEEPS STALLING ON THE ROAD

  20. Other or unspecified, Sep 21, 2020

THE ALTERNATOR ON MY VEHICLE WENT OUT, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THEM ON THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF MY VEHICLE HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT ON THE LIST SO I AM UNBLE TO GET IT REPAIRED

  21. Other or unspecified, Fuel/propulsion system, Sep 11, 2020

FOR THE LAST MONTH THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED WHILE DRIVING AND IN SOME CASES WOULD NOT START. I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL V62 FUEL PUMP RELAY PROBLEM IN THE MODEL. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THE FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE UNTIL DECEMBER. I USE THE CAR DAILY AND FOR LONG TRIP AND FEAR IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. CHRYSLER RECOMMENDS BRING THE CAR IN FOR A TEMPORARY FIX WHICH IS WORRISOME.

  22. Steering, Power train, Other or unspecified, Sep 7, 2020

I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE MY THERMOSTAT ABOUT 6 TIMES SINCE I GOT THE CAR IN 2017. THE HOUSING BREAKS AND IT LEAKS CAUSING OVER HEATING

  25. Power train, Other or unspecified, May 31, 2020

STARTED HAVING A TRANSMISSION SLIP IN 2ND GEAR REPAIR SHOP LOOKED THINGS OVER AND SAID TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS A LITTLE LOW AND I WAS LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID DUE AC CONDENSER GOING BAD. HAD IT REPLACED, NO MORE LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID BUT TRANSMISSION STILL ACTING UP NOW. WAS TOLD IT WAS MOST LIKELY DUE TO THE LEAK AND TRANS FLUID GETTING LOW. AFTER READING UP I GUESS THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. OBVIOUSLY THESE A/C CONDENSER UNITS ARE FAULTY. NOW I HAVE A TRANSMISSION THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDABLE IF JEEP WOULD HAVE LET OWNERS KNOW ABOUT THE AC CONDENSER ISSUE OR MADE THAT A UNIT THAT HAS TO GET REPLACED AFTER SO MANY MILES.
