Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.

ON 9/6/19 WHILE TRAVELING AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED ON A FOUR LANE ROAD THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADREST "EXPLODED" PROPELLING THE FRONT HALF OF THE HEADREST VIOLENTLY FORWARD. THIS CAUSED A HARD HIT TO THE BACK OF MY HEAD THAT LEFT ME STUNNED. I WAS UNSURE OF WHAT HAPPENED UNTIL I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND COULD SEE THAT IT HAD SPLIT FORCING THE FRONT HALF INTO MY HEAD. IF I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED OR MERGING ONTO THE NEARBY INTERSTATE THAT WAS MY DESTINATION, THIS IMPACT LIKELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THE HIT WAS SO FORCEFUL THAT I AM CONCERNED IT MAY HAVE DONE SOME DAMAGE TO MY NECK, SO I MAY HAVE TO SEEK MEDICAL CARE. ONCE I GOT HOME I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND MANY REPORTS AND LAWSUITS REGARDING THIS DEFECT IN THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT HEADREST ON CHRYSLER/ JEEP PRODUCTS. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE AND IT HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. SURELY THIS ISSUE MERITS A RECALL.

TO WHOM THIS MAY CONCERN, ON FEBRUARY 23, 2018 I WAS DRIVING ON I-4 IN ORLANDO, FL WHEN A PASSENGER-SEAT BRACKET INSIDE THE HEADREST GAVE WAY. MY WIFE WAS THE PASSENGER WHO ACTUALLY STAYED HOME FROM WORK THE FOLLOWING DAY HAVING NECK PAIN. NECK PAIN DIMINISHED AND SHE WENT BACK TO WORK THE NEXT DAY. SOMETIME SHORTLY AFTER, I DROPPED OFF MY CAR (2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE SUMMIT) AT THE FIELDS AUTOMOTIVE FOR A HEADREST REPLACEMENT. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME I HAD TO RESCHEDULE AS THEY HAD TO ORDER A NEW HEADREST. I WENT BACK TO PICK UP MY JEEP AND OF COURSE RESCHEDULE A TIME FOR REPLACEMENT. WHEN I DROPPED OFF MY JEEP AGAIN, I GET A PHONE CALL STATING THAT THE HEADREST WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE COST WAS WELL OVER $700.00 (PARTS AND LABOR) WHICH I DECLINED AND WENT BACK AGAIN TO PICK UP. A FEW WEEKS LATER I DECIDED TO ORDER THE HEADREST FROM FACTORY OEM PARTS IN TAMPA, FLORIDA AND HAD IT SHIPPED TO MY RESIDENCE. RECEIVED NEW HEAD REST, INSTALLED AND WIRED IN SECONDS. HEADREST COST $443.87 INCLUDING SHIPPING. INVOICE IS ATTACHED. VERY UPSET WITH THE TIME I SPENT ON RESOLVING THIS AND THE MARKUP THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CHARGING FOR THE REPLACEMENT. I INVESTIGATED THE DAMAGED HEADREST AND RELATED THE FAULT FROM A BROKEN PLASTIC CLIP. I STILL HAVE THE DAMAGED HEADREST.

THE DRIVERS SIDE ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED WITHOUT A COLLISION. I WAS DRIVING IN A PARKING LOT AND HEARD A LOT SOUND AND WAS HIT IN THE BACK OF HEAD BY AN UNKNOWN OBJECT AT THE TIME. AFTER STOPPING AND COMPOSING MYSELF AND CHECKING MYSELF OUT AS I THOUGHT I MAY HAVE BEEN SHOT. I REALIZED THE HEADREST HAD DEPLOYED. CONTACTES TWO DEALERSHIPS IN MY AREA AND BOTH SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING AND IT WAS NOT A RECALL AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY

WHILE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, PARKED IN DRIVEWAY, PASSENGER SEAT ACTIVE HEADREST FAILED INTO AN OPEN POSITION. AS STATED BY OTHERS, AND VERIFIED BY DEALER, PLASTIC RETAINING CLIPS FAILED AND CAUSED AN UNNECESSARY RELEASE. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAD REST COULD FAIL AT ANY MOMENT, POTENTIALLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT THAT RESULTS IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH.
Air bags, Seats, Jul 26, 2019
I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE TO JEEP ABOUT MY PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYING WITHOUT ANY CAUSE WHILE MY CAR WAS IN PARK FOR MORE THAN 6 HOURS... AFTER READING MORE THAN SEVERAL THREADS AND CONCERNS FROM OTHER JEEP OWNERS AND IT ALSO HAPPENING TO THEM AND THE OUTRAGEOUS COST TO REPAIR A SINGLE HEADREST INCLUDING LABOR IS BEYOND ME. I FEEL CHEATED OUT. THIS REPAIR IS ALMOST A 800.00 REPAIR ... WHY HAS JEEP NOT MADE THIS VERY REPETITIVE ISSUE A RECALL? I FEEL JEEP SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAG AND ALSO THE REPAIR FOR MY JEEP. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS HAD THIS ISSUE AND HAS FELT THE SAME. I AM ASKING FOR SOMEONE TO HANDLE THIS IN A FAIR MANNER. BEING A SINGLE PARENT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO FORK MONEY LIKE I AM A BANK HAS MADE THIS TREMENDOUSLY FRUSTRATING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. WHILE DRIVING 10 TO 15 MPH, THE DRIVER'S HEADREST AIR BAG ABRUPTLY DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROMANO CHRYSLER JEEP (215 W GENESEE STREET, FAYATTEVILLE, NY 13066, 315-637-3101) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DRIVER'S HEADREST AIR BAG NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000.

THE HEADREST OF THE DRIVERS SEAT DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH CRUISE CONTROL AND AND THE VEHICLE WAS AT A STEADY SPEED WITH NO SUDDEN JOLTS OR STOPS. JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE OVERLAND HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. IT HAD NOT BEEN SETTING FOR MORE THAN 6 HOURS SINCE LAST DRIVEN. I OPENED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND THE PASSENGER SIDE HEAD REST ACTIVATED. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME, BUT LUCKILY I WAS NOT HARMED. UPON INSPECTION IT LOOKS AS THOUGH THE PLASTIC RETAINERS WHICH HOLD THE UNIT IN SOMEHOW BROKE ALLOWING THE HEADREST TO ACTIVATE.. I AM NOT AN ENGINEER, BUT THIS IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM DUE TO FAULTY ENGINEERING OR MANUFACTURING. AFTER SOME TIME SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET I FOUND TONS OF OTHER JEEP OWNERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. CLEARLY JEEP IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, BUT AS OF YET HAS BEEN IGNORING THE PROBLEM. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TO THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAD REST WHILE I WAS DRIVING IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS OR POSSIBLY DEADLY ACCIDENT
Air bags, Seats, Aug 16, 2018
TAKATA RECALL WHILE DRIVING MY CAR DOING 20 MPH IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS MY PASSENGER SIDE HEADREST MALFUNCTIONED AND DEPLOYED HITTING THE PASSENGER IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THE HEADREST DEPLOYED AND EXPLODED WITH A LOT OF FORCE. IT WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. I HAD NO IDEA THAT THE HEADRESTS WERE CAPABLE OF THAT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I SAW THAT THE PLASTIC 'CLIPS' THAT KEEP THE HEADREST FROM GOING OFF HAD BEEN COMPLETELY SHATTERED AND BROKEN MAKING THE HEADREST UNFIXABLE. WHEN I CALLED THE JEEP DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IF THE 'CLIPS' WERE BROKEN THAT THE HEADREST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I AM SHOCKED THAT A 'SAFETY FEATURE ' MALFUNCTIONING IS A PROBLEM THAT I NEED TO PAY TO FIX. (ABOUT $680 FOR A REPLACEMENT PLUS LABOR COST) THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS CRASH AND INJURIES. THIS STYLE HEADREST NEEDS TO BANNED. ALSO OTHER JEEP OWNERS NEED TO BE AWARE OF THIS. IT'S VERY UNSAFE AND JEEP NEEDS TO REPLACE THE HEADREST WITH A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SAFER HEADREST. I FEAR NOW THAT WHEN I'M DRIVING THAT THE DRIVER SIDE HEADREST COULD MALFUNCTION AND EXPLODE AT THE BACK OF MY HEAD RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURIES. IVE TALKED TO OTHER JEEP OWNERS WITH THE SAME STYLE VEHICLE AND NONE OF THEM WERE AWARE OF THIS 'SAFETY FEATURE' WITH THE HEADREST. AND NOT ONE SINGLE MENTION IN THE OWNERS MANUAL ABOUT THIS DEPLOYING HEADREST. PEOPLE NEED TO BE AWARE!!

SUNROOF HAS FAILED 6 TIMES AND IS NOW READY FOR IT'S 7TH REPAIR. THE SUNROOF'S AUTOMATIC FUNCTIONS STOP WORKING SO WHEN IT FAILS YOU HAVE TO PUSH THE CLOSE BUTTON REPEATEDLY WHILE THE SUNROOF MOVES MAYBE 1/4" ON EACH DEPRESSION OF THE BUTTON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE MOTOR ONCE AND FOR THE OTHER 4 TIMES I WAS TOLD IT NEEDED TO BE CALIBRATED. THE LAST SUNROOF FAILURE THEY WENT IN AND WENT THROUGH ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS AND SAID THEY FOUND SOME ELECTRICAL WIRING PROBLEMS AND FIXED THEM. THE SUNROOF FAILED AGAIN 2 WEEKS LATER. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT, DUE TO ANOTHER ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR ISSUE. THE ELECTRONICS IN THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONS REGULARLY WHICH AFFECT THE RADIO CONTROLS, NAVIGATION, CENTRAL LOCKING, PHONE, AND I GET RANDOM ERRONEOUS ERRORS ON THE DASH DISPLAY. THE RADIO/NAVIGATION UNITS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE NAVIGATION SCREEN LOCKS UP BUT THE VOICE WILL CONTINUE TO GIVE YOU VERBAL INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU MANUALLY LOCK THE VEHICLE AND START WALKING AWAY THE HORN WILL BEEP TWICE AND THE VEHICLE WILL UNLOCK LIKE THE KEYS HAVE BEEN LOCKED IN THE CAR, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE IN YOUR HAND. I WAS TOLD YOU CANNOT USE THE LOCK BUTTONS ON YOUR DOOR TO LOCK THE VEHICLE. WHEN YOU WALK UP TO THE CAR AND GRAB THE DOOR HANDLE TO UNLOCK THE CAR IT FAILS, AND YOU HAVE TO GRAB THE DOOR HANDLE ALL OVER REPEATEDLY TO GET IT TO UNLOCK. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ROUGHLY 40MPH, THE DRIVERS SEAT ACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED AND HIT ME IN BACK OF THE HEAD, JERKING MY HEAD FORWARD. AFTER ARRIVING HOME, I INSPECTED THE HEADREST AND NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC CLIPS HOLDING THE HEADREST BACK, BROKE.

I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND THE FRONT PASSENGER HEADREST DEPLOYED HITTING MY FIANC IN THE THE BACK OF HIS HEAD. IT APPEAR THE PLASTIC LATCH BROKE ON THE INSIDE OF THE MECHANISMS. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFTELY ISSUE AS I SWERVED DUE TO THE EXTREMELY LOUD NOISE. UPON SEARCHING ON GOOGLE IT APPEARS THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THE JEEP'S GRAND CHEROKEES FOR THOSE YEAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED. IF I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND IT HAPPENED TO THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT THEN THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED INTO A MAJOR ACCIDENT

I WAS COMING TO A GRADUAL STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT ON A LOCAL ROAD WHEN THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT SEEMINGLY DEPLOYED. I WAS NOT IN A COLLISION AND THERE WAS NO REASON FOR IT TO DEPLOY. UPON EXAMINING THE MECHANISM IT WAS NOT TRIGGERED, RATHER IT FAILED BECAUSE THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HELD ONTO THE LATCH HAD BROKEN OFF INTERNALLY CAUSING THE HEADREST TO HIT ME VIOLENTLY IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FAR WORSE HAD I NOT BEEN ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP.

DRIVER'S HEADREST AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHEN WE WERE NOT IN THE CAR, AND THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT. CHRYSLER WAS CONTACTED AND DID A PRIVATE INVESTIGATION WHICH LED THEM TO BELIEVE THAT THE INCIDENT WAS NOT DUE TO MANUFACTURING RESPONSIBILITY. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED SOME TIME IN EARLY APRIL - WE NOTICED IT AROUND APRIL 14TH. I HAVE CONTACTED THEM 6 TIMES SINCE THEN AND THEY REFUSE TO EXPLAIN WHY THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, OR OFFER ASSISTANCE IN REPAIRING IT.
