Vehicle jerks when moving forward or reverse. Vehicles feels as if it 's being rear ended going forward or being hit hard from the front going reverse. This jerking motion is exaggerated more when the steering wheel is turned left or right - very dangerous when parked near a vehicle front/back. The vehicle now also gives an error message to "service 4-wheel drive system" then a few seconds later the Electronic Stability Control warning light , lights up. I only have 62K miles on this vehicle bought it brand new. Took to the dealer for regular oil change and informed about the issue. Dealer changed oil but would need to do a diagnostic for another day. Will drop off vehicle in 4 days.

  13. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Jun 14, 2024, crash

We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7L Hemi engine. Today on XXX, we were moving slowly in traffic on a street in Linden, New Jersey, and suddenly the vehicle accelerated by itself. My wife pressed on the brakes all the way to the floor but the vehicle kept jumping forward - the engine was revving and trying to move the vehicle forward while my wife was firmly pressing on the brake pedal. Because we were in stop and go traffic, the vehicle eventually lurched into the car in front of us and caused an accident. The front of our vehicle was damaged as was the rear of the car in front of us. This sudden acceleration has happened a few times in the last 3 years. During the previous instance of this sudden acceleration, on [XXX] we also hit a car in stop and go traffic. The air bags deployed and we had extensive repairs done because of that. This happened another time as well. During that instance, we did not hit anything, and the only way we were able to stop the car was by switching the gearshift to the Park position. Taken to Jeep dealer and they told me this is a common issue on this style motor. No symptoms prior to part failure.

I've been driving a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. Here are the list of problems I have experienced / still experiencing. 1. Vibration when accelerating through 20 to 30km/h (still exists) 2. Rough, jerky upshifts from 1st->2nd and 2nd->3rd gear (still exists) 3. The car jerks forward suddenly, almost like being rear ended, when coming to a stop. (still exists) 4. Rattling noise from the glove compartment. (still exists) 5. Rattling noise from the back side of the car. (still exists) 6. Loose bolt inside the trunk door. 7. Rattling noise when the car first drives after engine's turned on. (still exists) 8. When using the climate control, the screen often doesn't change to reflect the current climate settings. (fixed) 9. Extremely loud buzzing sound that appears out of nowhere while driving. (still exists) My cheif complaint is the transmission issues that I’m experiencing. I’m afraid to take this SUV on the highway. It’s a safety hazard.

  17. Power train, Apr 22, 2024, crash

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while in reverse and attempting to shift into the Park position, the vehicle rolled backward independently and crashed into a tree. The air bags did not deploy. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was able to be driven. No police report was filed. As a result of the failure, the shifter needed to be moved upwards before being able to shift the gear in the park position. A few years later while coming to a slow stop to place the vehicle in park, the gear shifter failed to remain in park. The vehicle continued to roll forward causing the rear driver-side door to hit the barrier around a nearby mailbox. The air bags did not deploy. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene. No police report was filed. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Investigation ID Number: PE15-030 (Power Train). The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were not able to diagnose the failure and confirmed that there were no recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

When driving my vehicle goes into neutral when I press the gas to accelerate when coming to stop at a red light and trying to accelerate again vehicles switch to neutral

  19. Power train, Engine, Mar 23, 2024

While driving at about 50 mph, the transmission shifted into neutral and would not allow me to shift it back into drive while moving or stopped. This put me in a very dangerous situation as I was in traffic and in the left lane on a 4-lane road. After about 10 minutes of the engine being shut off, it started again and ran just fine. A check engine light did come on, giving error code P0205 and U0002-88 when scanned. I believe the latter code is a stored code from a previous issue. No warning lights were on immediately prior to the incident. This is the second time it has happened in the span of about 4 months. The mechanic was not able to diagnose the cause after the first occurrence. After the second occurrence, the local Jeep dealer was contacted; they were not aware of any such issues and recommended adding fuel injector cleaner and changing the spark plugs/getting a tune up. The dealer did not inspect the car. The next day the check engine light went off, though the code may be stored in the car’s memory.

The first time it happened, I was driving on the highway going 70 when all of a sudden the transmission jumped into neutral, which caused me to jump several lanes to get off the highway to avoid being hit by several cars. I was scared to death!! It has has happened several times after that..There are no warning lights that comes on, it just goes from drive to neutral on its own. I’ve taken it to a transmission shop and was told there was nothing wrong with the transmission but there is definitely a problem and a safety hazard for sure!! after looking online, there’s definitely an issue with the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees, this is extremely dangerous.

  23. Power train, Vehicle speed control, Feb 12, 2024

NHTSA recall # 23V-411 (FCA#66A) was performed, but did not fix the issue with lost power. Even though the recall "fix" didn't work, FCA said that the proper fix wasn't covered, because the vehicle isn't under warranty. According to the dealership, the tone wheel needs replaced, and they said FCA should cover the cost.
