Service brakes, hydraulic, antilock/traction control/electronic limited slip, control unit/moduleOct 17, 2013
Chrysler Group, LLC (Chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured January 8, 2013, through August 20, 2013. Due to a disruption of computer communications and loose alternator ground wires, the affected vehicles may experience random illumination of multiple instrument cluster warning lights, loss of cluster illumination and loss of anti-lock brake system (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) function. Because of these conditions, the vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 101, "Controls and Displays," and No. 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems."
A loss of ABS and ESC function reduces the driver's ability to control the vehicle. Drivers would not be warned of brake system failures or any other failures which would be illuminated on the dashboard display. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the ABS and instrument cluster module software and tighten the alternator ground wire, free of charge. The recall began on November 19, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N58.

In the affected vehicles, when switching between daytime running lights and parking lights, electrical spikes may cause the parking lamps to turn off. Without properly functioning parking lamps these vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108, "Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment."
Without parking lamps, the vehicle may not be as visible to other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will update the Central Body Controller software, free of charge. The recall BEGAN ON September 12, 2013. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753. Chrysler's recall campaign number is N42.

I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEARLY 2 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM INTERMITTENTLY. AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, THE RADIO/PHONE/NAVIGATION PANEL WILL NOT START WHEN THE CAR DOES. SO I HAVE NO HEAT OR AIR CONDITIONING, NO BACK UP CAMERA, NO RADIO, NO HANDSFREE PHONE. THIS SITUATION USUALLY LASTS ABOUT 5 MINUTES BUT EVENTUALLY WILL START. I HAVE NOT BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO SEE ABOUT IT SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS. BUT THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME. I AM A REALTOR AND I'VE PUT 70K MILES ON MY CAR IN THE PAST YEAR. I AM IN IT ALL THE TIME AND I NEED THESE FEATURES TO WORK. I BOUGHT THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE USED AND I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT, EXCEPT THIS. PLEASE DO A RECALL ON THIS FEATURE. I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT HAS HAD THESE PROBLEMS.

RADIO DOES NOT COME ON WHEN CAR STARTS. THE AIR CONDITIONING WILL ALSO NOT TURN ON AT TIMES WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING. THE DASH HAS ALSO BEEN EFFECTED AT TIMES, NOT LIGHTING UP. THE RADIO HAS COME ON WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR CAN BE DRIVEN BUT NO FEATURES FROM THE RADIO PANEL.

CONSTANT CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE. ALL 6 SPARK PLUGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. COIL AND FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED. STILL SHOWING CYLINDER 6 MISFIRE. SEEN CYLINDER HEAD BEING REPLACED ON YEARS 2011-2013 BUT NOT FOR A 2014. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED. WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, IT HAD SEIZURE LIKE CONVULSIONS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND WHILE IN IDLE UNTIL SPARK PLUGS WERE REPLACED. STILL RUNNING ROUGH, VERY SHAKING LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT.

THE PASSENGER HEAD REST IN MY JEEP G C DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON AS THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ( ON THE CITY STREETS) FEW WEEKS AGO. THIS IS A SAFETY MECHANISM BUILD INTO THE JEEPS FOR SAFETY PURPOSES. NOT SO SAFE WHEN IT RANDOMLY DEPLOYED. IT WONDER WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE WILL DEPLOY HITTING ME IN THE BACK OF THE HEAD WHILE DRIVING.

I KEEP GETTING A MESSAGE THAT STATES THE 911 SYSTEM NEEDS MAINTENANCE. SHORTLY AFTER I STARTED GETTING THAT MESSAGE, WHEN STARTING MY JEEP MY SCREEN WILL STAY BLANK FOR ABOUT 3-5 MINUTES BEFORE COMING ON. WHEN IT IS BLANK THE VEHICLE WILL SWITCH BETWEEN AIR CONDITIONING AND HEAT, HIGH FAN AND LOW FAN SPEED. WHEN THE SCREEN IS BLANK I AM UNABLE TO DO ANYTHING.....EVEN USING THE BUTTONS BELOW THE SCREEN DO NOT WORK.

OVER-THE-AIR SOFTWARE UPDATE. ACCEPTED THE UPDATE ONE TIME. UPDATE OCCURS ALMOST DAILY. WHILE UPDATING THE INFOTAINMENT DISPLAY ONLY SHOWS PROGRESS BAR (15-20 MINUTES) WHILE DRIVING. AFTER UPDATE DOWNLOAD COMPLETE THE SCREEN NEVER CHANGES BACK TO ORIGINAL INTENDED FUNCTIONS DURING IGNITION CYCLE. NEXT IGNITION CYCLE THE SCREEN APPEARS NORMAL UNTIL UPDATE OCCURS AGAIN, BUT FUNCTIONALITY IS VERY SLOW TO RESPOND OR DOES NOT RESPOND TO "TOUCH" REQUESTS FOR CLIMATE CONTROLS, NAVIGATION, RADIO, ETC. WHEN REVERSING, THE BACK-UP CAMERA IMAGE SCREEN HAS A LONG DELAY OF 5 SECONDS OR MORE. BACKING MANEUVER USUALLY NEAR COMPLETION WHEN IMAGE FINALLY APPEARS. CAMERA IMAGE IS NOT AVAILABLE DURING THE UPDATE OR AFTER UPDATE COMPLETE AND NOT UNTIL NEXT IGNITION CYCLE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NAVIGATION SYSTEM RARELY FUNCTIONS WHEN THE SCREEN IS AVAILABLE.

WHILE PARKED WITH THE VEHICLE OFF, I WAS SITTING IN THE DRIVER SEAT WHEN I SUDDENLY HEARD A LOUD BANG. I LOOKED ALL AROUND AND SAW THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD EXPLODED. PLASTIC PIECES WENT FLYING OUT. THE SOUND WAS VERY LOUD AND STARTLING, AND THE INCIDENT OCCURED WITH NO PROVOCATION. THROUGH GOOGLE SEARCHES, MANY OTHER INCIDENCES OF THIS CAN BE SEEN HAPPENING. SOME PEOPLE HAVE THE HEAD RESTRAINT IMPACT THEIR HEAD WHILE DRIVING, WHICH COULD HAVE CAUSED THEM TO WRECK. I AM TERRIFIED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE WILL DO THE SAME THING, AND CAUSE ME TO WRECK DUE TO THE SHOCK OF BEING HIT IN THE HEAD. FURTHERMORE, THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 3.5 YEARS OLD AND UNDER 100,000 MILES. JEEP HAS STATED THAT THIS IS NOT COVERED AND THAT IT IS PART OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I ADAMENTLY DISSAGREE WITH THIS STATEMENT. THE ACTIVE HEAD RESTRAINTS ARE HELD UNDER HIGH TENSION WITH A PIECE OF PLASTIC. WHEN THIS PIECE OF PLASTIC FATIGUES DUE TO THE STRESSES OF THE SPRING TENSION, THE HEADREST RELEASES. THIS IS A CLEAR DESIGN FLAW FROM THE FACTORY, AND IT NOT ONLY RESULTS IN LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY, BUT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH TO THE USERS OF THE VEHICLES. REPAIR COSTS ARE QUOTED AROUND $750.

THE JEEP NAVIGATION GPS SYSTEM HAS A FAULT THAT HAS CAUSED ME TO MAKE ABRUPT LANE CHANGES. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS MY JEEP ON-BOARD GPS HAS ORDERED A RIGHT OR LEFT TURN VERBALLY BUT WHEN THE MAP WAS LOOKED AT IT WOULD INDICATE THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IF I LISTEN TO THE SPOKEN DIRECTIONS I MAY BE TURN THE WRONG WAY. IF I CONSULT THE MAP AFTER I BEGIN THE TURN I HAVE TO CROSS LANES. I HAVE NOT YET HAD AN ACCIDENT BUT HAVE HAD CLOSE CALLS. I HAVE ASKED TWO OTHER OWNERS OF JEEP GRAND CHEROKEES 2014 AND BOTH HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS

ON MARCH 4, 2018 MY JEEP WAS PARKED, IN PARK, AT THE TOP OF A DRIVEWAY ON A SLIGHT GRADE. BY MORNING IT HAD ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY INTO A RAVINE, ROLLING TWICE. THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER CONFIRMED IT WAS IN PARK. I NOW HAVE $20,000 WORTH OF DAMAGE WITHOUT A NEEDED SAFETY CHECK BEFORE REPAIRS CAN BE DONE, IF THAT'S EVEN POSSIBLE. NO ONE CAN EXPLAIN TO ME HOW A VEHICLE, IN PARK, CAN ROLL DOWN A HILL? NOT THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER, INSURANCE ADJUSTER OR BODY SHOP. MY JEEP HAS LOST ALL OF IT'S VALUE WITH THIS MISHAP. I AM FIGHTING WITH INSURANCE BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS A TOTAL LOSS, THEY DISAGREE. I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. I AM TERRIFIED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED AND RETURNED TO ME. I AM A DISABLED 67 YEAR OLD WIDOW. CAN YOU EXPLAIN?

THE TOUCH SCREEN PANEL FOR MY RADIO GOES OUT AND DOES NOT ALLOW THE RADIO TO PLAY WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN FIRST STARTED. SOMETIMES MY BLUETOOTH DOESN'T CONNECT AT ALL. THREE MONTHS AFTER MY WARRANTY EXPIRED THE SIRIUS RADIO STOPPED WORKING AND I WAS FORCED TO CANCEL MY SUBSCRIPTION. THE STATIONS CAME UP BUT NOTHING WOULD COME OUT OF THE SPEAKERS WHEN I WOULD SELECT THE BUTTONS. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME SINCE MY WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $600 TO GET A NEW RADIO IF I REALLY WANTED THE SATELLITE RADIO. THEY SAID THE ANTENNA FOR THE SATELLITE RADIO HAD BURNT OUT. MY CAR WAS BARELY 3 1/2 YEARS OLD AT THAT TIME. SOMETIMES WHEN I CONNECT MY PHONE IT DOESN'T ALLOW ME TO SWITCH SONGS UNLESS I CHANGE IT THROUGH MY PHONE. THE WHOLE RADIO, BLUETOOTH, MEDIA SECTIONS ON MY TOUCH SCREEN HAVE GLITCHES.

THE SUNROOF ON MY 2014 JEEP GRANDE CHEROKEE SRT SPONTANEOUSLY EXPLODED AS I WAS DRIVING 70MPH ON INTERSTATE 5 IN OREGON. TRAFFIC WAS MINIMAL AT 3:45 PM. IT WAS 54 DEGREES OUTSIDE AND THE WEATHER WAS CLEAR. IT HAD RAINED EARLIER IN THE DAY. THE EXPLOSION SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT BLAST IN MY EAR. IT WAS VERY SCARY AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING, NO CRACKS, NO LEAKS. I DID HAVE THE AUTOMATIC COVER OPEN TO LET LIGHT IN, BUT THE SUNROOF ITSELF WAS CLOSED. THE GLASS EXPLODED UP AND OUT, SO I AM FORTUNATE THAT I ONLY HAD A DUSTING OF GLASS THAT FELL AROUND ME. DEFINITELY, THE MOST FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD WHILE DRIVING.

THE ACTIVE HEAD REST FOR MY 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE HAD SPONTANEOUSLY DEPLOYED WHILE PARKED IN MY GARAGE. I HAD TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD THE PLASTIC CLIPS WERE BROKEN AND IT COULDN'T BE RESET AND THE HEAD REST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. APPARENTLY THIS IS NOT A VEHICLE RECALL ISSUE BUT POSSIBLY SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO AS ONE. I HAVE FOLLOWED UP THIS TYPE OF ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND MULTIPLE CASES WITH SIMILAR OR THE EXACT TYPE OF ISSUE. THIS POSES A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD, IF I HAD BEEN DRIVING, AND THE HEADREST DEPLOYED IN THIS MANNER IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.

MY PROBLEM STARTED IN MAY, 2016 WHEN MY NAVIGATION SYSTEM FAILED BY GIVING ME THE WRONG INFORMATION BY INSTRUCTING ME TO TURN INTO A ONE WAY (WRONG WAY) TRAFFIC LANE. THIS HAS SINCE HAPPENED MANY TIMES SINCE THEN BY DIRECTING ME INCORRECTLY. THE COMPLETE NAVIGATION SYSTEM, CLOCK & COMPASS, PERIODICALLY DON'T WORK. ON OCCASION I RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE ON MY VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SCREEN "VEHICLE PHONE REQUIRES SERVICE PLEASE CONTACT YOUR DEALER." AFTER NUMEROUS APPOINTMENTS WITH THE DEALER & TELLING THEM THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT WITH MY PHONE THEY FINALLY SAID THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM AND GAVE ME AN 800 NUMBER TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER CUSTOMER SERVICE. AFTER NUMEROUS DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS CUSTOMER SERVICE PEOPLE OVER A PERIOD OF TWO MONTHS, ON 9/28/2017 CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON PATRICIA SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE HOWEVER THAT A "JEEP SERVICE BULLETIN #08-028-17 WITH UPDATES TO SOFTWARE LEVEL 17.11.07 WILL OCCUR IN A PHASED ROLL-OUT AND MAYBE THE PROBLEM WILL GO AWAY." THEY TOLD ME I WOULD RECEIVE DOWNLOAD INSTRUCTIONS BUT COULD NOT TELL ME WHEN THESE INSTRUCTIONS WOULD BE SENT OUT. THE SYSTEM WILL WORK PERIODICALLY BUT FAILS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT. YESTERDAY I WAS AGAIN USING THE NAVIGATION IN AN AREA THAT I UNFAMILIAR WITH AND THE SYSTEM AGAIN TRIED TO ROUTE ME INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC.

I HAVE TAKEN MY JEEP TO THE DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES ALREADY. I HAVE ONLY OWNED IT FOR 3 MONTHS. ABOUT A MONTH OF THAT I HAVEN'T DRIVEN IT. BECAUSE ITS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR SO LONG. IT HAS A PROBLEM WHERE IT SHIFTS REALLY HARD FROM 2ND TO 3RD, 3RD TO 4TH. IT MOVES THE CAR FORWARD THEN JERKS IT BACK REALLY HARD, LIKE YOU'RE GETTING HIT FROM BEHIND. ITS SCARY ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE ARE SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR. I HAD THOUGHT I HAD BOUGHT A RELIABLE CAR BUT IT SEEMS THAT 30K HAS GONE TO WASTE AND MY HOOPTY WAS MORE RELIABLE. THE ENGINE ALSO SHAKES AND SOMETIMES IT'S STUCK IN THIRD GEAR! ITS EMBARRASSING AND SCARY TO PULL OUT IN FLOWING TRAFFIC. A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS CAME ON BEFORE BUT I HAVE STILL NOT "MET" THE REQUIREMENTS FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THEY REPLACED THE VALVE BODY BUT IT ONLY DROVE SMOOTH FOR A FEW DAYS THEN WENT BACK TO JERK THE ENTIRE CAR AGAIN.

SUN ROOF EXPLODED. HOT HOT, NOT HOT, NOT SPEEDING. WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE COST!

MY SUNROOF SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT CAUSE EXPLODED WHILE DRIVING AT 65MPH. ON THE INTERSTATE. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND THERE WERE NO HAZARDS ANYWHERE AROUND. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 92 DEGREES AND OVERCAST BUT NOT RAINING. CAUSE IS UNKNOWN.

I PURCHASED MY USED 2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FROM JT'S CHRYSLER & JEEP IN LEXINGTON, SC ON MAY 27TH, 2017. SOMETIME A FEW WEEKS LATER IN JUNE, WE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH OUR RADIO AND TOUCH SCREEN PANEL. IT DID AN AUTOMATIC UPDATE BY ITSELF (SCREEN SAID TO KEEP VEHICLE RUNNING FOR 15 MINS TO COMPLETE) AND NOW IT WILL NOT SAVE ANY PRESETS THAT WE TRY AND SAVE TO IT. THE VOLUME TO THE RADIO WORKS FINE SOME DAYS, OTHER DAYS, WE CANNOT GET THE VOLUME TO WORK ON THE RADIO AT ALL...OR WORSE, SOMETIMES IT WILL LET US TURN THE VOLUME UP SOME AND THEN WE CANNOT GET IT TO TURN BACK DOWN (CAUSING ISSUES WHEN I NEED TO HEAR THINGS OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE) UNTIL WE POWER THE IGNITION DOWN. IT HAS AFFECTED THE NAVIGATION AND SPEAKERS TO SOME DEGREE ALREADY AND WE HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TWICE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT WITH NO RESOLUTION. THEY HAVE TOLD US THEY TRIED A "FLASH UPDATE" BUT IT STILL HAS NOT HELPED. WE CONSTANTLY GET AN ERROR MESSAGE STATING "VEHICLE PHONE NEEDS SERVICE". I DID SOME RESEARCH AFTER OUR LAST SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND REALIZED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE RADIO'S FOR THIS MODEL AND YEAR JEEP FOR THE SAME ISSUES WE ARE HAVING BUT, I DO NOT SEE OUR VIN # LISTED IN THE RECALL. I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO SHED SOME LIGHT IF POSSIBLE ON HOW WE CAN GO ABOUT GETTING THIS RESOLVED. THANK YOU!
